I Am An E-mail Snob
Mar 1st 2010
Nicole JordanNicole Jordan & When Goddesses Fall To Earth
My prejudices hit me the other day. I am very, very picky about what e-mails I open. And I’m even pickier about what e-mails I reply to.
A friend who knows I love animals forwards delightful e-mails about puppies and dolphins and piglets, etc. As usual, I eagerly open her e-mails and laugh and coo at the adorable pics. But then I quickly zap the next several from my in-box.
I respond to any business mail, to good friends, and to most family. But there are a lot that I don’t bother reading.
You know those chain mail thingies, where the sender promises your ears will fall off and you’ll have ten thousand years of bad luck if you don’t forward their precious message on to ten of your friends? Now why would I
want to inflict that curse on my friends?
Dh gets tons of jokes from friends and relatives, but he knows better than to send them on to me unless they are really great. And my family darn well knows better than to send me political commentary, since we are 180 degrees out of sync. We just politely agree to disagree. If you don’t want me to reply with a tirade, just keep your contrary political opinions to yourself, thank you very much.
I zap a lot of e-mail without opening it. Along with the junk mail asking me if I want an implant to enlarge an organ I don’t even posses, or to inspire ecstasy in my woman lover, which I don’t have either, or to buy watches for a great price, I get repeated Facebook invitations from people I don’t even know. It irks me that because I don’t respond the first time, they automatically send me notices half a dozen more times.
I’ve made enemies of friends when I ask them to stop sending me jokes. To keep my friends, I’ve learned I have to gently train them in my preferences.
Part of my problem, I suppose, is that I actually have 5 e-mail addresses (which I use for entirely different purposes), so I have to check a lot of different places, which takes more time. And I keep most of my spam filters turned off so that I don’t accidently miss the e-mails I really want to read, which means I open myself up to junk mail.
It worries me that some folks don’t get my e-mails because they get zapped by spam filters. Especially readers who take the time out of their busy schedule to write me about my books. But I confess that reading fan mail is the second favorite part of my on-line day – next to checking out The Goddess Blogs, of course.
What’s your fave and least fave kind of e-mail? Do you feel obliged to respond or do you zap
without remorse? Do you have your family and friends trained? And do you forward those chain mail thingies? If not, can you tell if you’ve incurred ten thousand years of bad luck?

My fave e-mail would be the responses I get from families and friends, as well as finding out I’m a winner of some contest that I entered online. My least would be the irrelevant ones where it doesn’t concern me, like spam and ppl who (un)luckily got my e-mail addy.
I zap them w/o remorse. I don’t care for them nor do I want them. Therefore, I’ll happily zap them so that I can quickly go through my business and get back to my reading pleasure.
My family know what to send me. In fact, if they have something to ask me, I rather be reached via the phone. Though I rather e-mail them unless I feel what they want to know/ask/etc. is more important that I have to speak to them via the phone/in person. Same with my friends.
I HATE those chain mail stuff. I rather not open them, even if they are touching. But if they ARE touching, I save them and don’t send it. Thankfully, I don’t receive a lot so I’m glad about that. I used to do it, but now I just ignore it and keep it. The message is much more better than sending it.
And I do have more than one e-mail addies. It’s tough to check them all when you are strapped for time. Isn’t that correct, Nicole?

I wish I could zap all troubles with the ease I do my e-mails. Everyone knows if they send me a forward it is going to get zapped. I just don’t do chain mail. I haven’t noticed that my luck is any the worse for not forwarding junk.
Archer on 02 Mar 2010 at 5:16 am #
I zap without remorse. Whenever my friends send me forwards I always remind them that if they insist on doing it that they should at least enter emails in BCC instead of TO so that others can’t gather email for more spam.
I keep my banking accounts separate from my other accounts because if the spam gets out of hand its easy to delete regular accounts, but a bit of a pain to change emails in all my bank and billing accounts. It drives my friends nuts that I don’t have a long lasting email
I do read some forwards, but I mostly delete them.
I’ve gotten viruses through forwards so anything with an attachment gets deleted.

My favorite kind of email is from a very dear friend. She’s one of my very closest friends and we talk mostly through email. If you look at my inbox, it’s kinda creepy. There’s only this friend’s name with a bunch of emails. Sometimes we email several times a day and stuff, and I love getting her messages.
But, in general, I don’t have much patience to email. I have an email address I never check that I use for msn and when someone random or that I don’t like much asks for my email, I just give them that one and say I don’t check often.
I usually skim through jokes and that stuff, but rarely ever forward (sometimes, they’re REALLY funny, so, I’ll send them to friends I know will appreciate it). I only forward anything to people I specifically think of and know they won’t be bothered.
It really break my hear to ignore all those awesome Viagra offers, meds to lose weight and, of course, organ enlargement, but I really have no patience.
Goddess tip of the day: I totally just used my flat iron to fix a wrinkled shirt. It works!!!!!
LoriHandeland on 02 Mar 2010 at 6:14 am #
My favorite email is answers from friends. Least fave are the “enlargement” emails. I zap them all while muttering “don’t HAVE a p%(&!” I also delete pretty much on sight anything that begins with the letters FW. I just get too many.
I have no remorse about zapping. I should just tell people not to send them but like you said Nicole, they get upset. So I ZAP.
Since I zap everything I’m forwarded, I never forward anything to anyone.
If I’ve incurred bad luck from it, that might explain a few things . . .
Judy f on 02 Mar 2010 at 6:37 am #
I don’t care for those emails that are getting to know you (insert year). They are so long and I just don’t have time for them. I tell my friends don’t send them to me cause I won’t do them. LOL
I get ones in my spam for medication, growth of things I don’t have, do you want to see my webcam (NO) etc.
I wish that Prince in that foreign country would just send me the money. I sure could use it. LOL

I hate those dire warnings about how there is this new way for women to get attacked, or that we’re going to get spammed with telemarketing calls on this and this date. People forward them with out checking the facts. All it takes is two minutes on truthorfiction dot com and you can see if the thing has any truth to it. After a few nasty grams my parents finally got the point. Now all forwards say “I checked this and it’s true” if it actually ends up being sent to me. (Sometimes it says, can you check this for me, but that’s ok too.) If I remember correctly, Sheridan will wholeheartedly agree with me on that one.
Other than that, I don’t get much junk. I tend to just keep friend requests of people I don’t know in limbo.
Nicole, I didn’t even know you had fb. You’re very well hidden.
Kathy on 02 Mar 2010 at 7:29 am #
I go the way of Cail when someone sends me those dire warnings or oh-so-fake-”incredible pictures”! check with snopes or email hoaxes, and send them back the proof that they were wrong. usually to my uncle or my sister. but they still come.
I once got really tired and yelled at her (in caps) about the constant sending of forwards. I wanted to get a real email from her, telling me anything at all about her life, even if she just picked at her nails all day. I hurt her feelings, but at least she is more communicative. she still sends 4 or 5 a day though, usually copies of what my uncle sends me.
I very rarely forward anything, as all my friends know.
Claudia Dain on 02 Mar 2010 at 7:38 am #
Love emails from friends and fans. Hate the spam emails selling me something. Like the emails telling me about sales, even though I’ve never bought anything online just because it was on sale, I still like to keep that option open.
Pesky on 02 Mar 2010 at 8:02 am #
My favorite email are ones from family and friends.
I never forward the chain emails though I will send a reply back on the ones that ask if you’re the sender’s friend. (Yes you are my friend, and I’ve never suffered horrid circumstances when not forwarding). I delete a lot of emails, I have a spam filter for a lot more.
nancyg on 02 Mar 2010 at 8:24 am #
I’m a zapper. Friends ask if I received a certain e-mail, and I inform everyone I automatically delete ANY e-mail starting with the prefix FW: . I *hate* the jokes, chain mail – I haven’t been struck by lightning yet for deleting, etc. I have my own dog on the floor next to me & am allergic to cats, so save your cute warm fuzzy pictures of puppies & kitties on your own hard drive.
I’m also NOT a big fan of the “reply to all” key. I have a bunko group & everyone feels the need for every inane comment to be sent to 20+ people. Really? I need to know you “LOL”?? That’s 30 seconds of my life I can’t get back… I like how Facebook is set up – if you send a message to the group, everyone can see your reply if they want to…or not – like a scrolling text message on the computer.
I do get “Spamalot”
– I just go through my spam folder and hit the delete all key, then undelete the ones I want to read.
I like getting coupons & sale notices for stores I shop at. The others, I’ll take 2 minutes & unsubscribe. Speaking of which, got my Coach coupon – spring sale starts Friday, new spring/summer purse?? – WOOT!
Best e-mails are the “whassup” ones from friends!
Michelle B on 02 Mar 2010 at 9:09 am #
The best e-mails are the old fashioned letter kind from friends. I used to be a letter writer, but my friends weren’t so much into it. I find that some of those same friends will e-mail, so it’s nice to hear from them.
The worst are the Viagra sales pitches. Where oh where do they get my e-mail adress?
I get all kinds of FW stuff. The worst offender is my Dad. He came to e-mail a couple of years ago and at first he was sending on these old FW’s that had been around for years. He thought they were such a treat, I didn’t have the heart to tell him they were old. He used to send out 10 a day, we are down to around 4 now. I read them as I wouldn’t hurt his feelings for anything.
I don’t tell friends not to send, after all, I don’t have to read it if I don’t want to, just delete. Bad luck? No, I feel pretty lucky and very blessed.
elsiehogarth on 02 Mar 2010 at 9:18 am #
Oh, I can’t stand chain letters. I don’t do them, I don’t read them and I don’t open them. I can tell when they are a chain letter. I have a group of people that that is all they ever send me. I just automatically delete them. I also can’t stand the e-mails selling Viagra, enhancers(male & female) and lately to institutes that will help me with my finances. Aaaaghhhhh! (that’s a Charlie Brown moment)
First thing in the morning, I check my e-mail to see if I received any from relatives around the world. Today, I received from my cousins in France, England, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and my Aunt and Uncle who are on vacation in Ecuador.
My favorite e-mails are pictures of all “the babies” in my family. Lately it’s like an invasion but I just love them all and can’t wait to see them and hold them.
Nicole Jordan on 02 Mar 2010 at 9:26 am #
LOL, I’m glad to know there are so many zappers around here.
Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE e-mail. It has changed my life for the better. But now I’m just really picky.
Amy on 02 Mar 2010 at 9:27 am #
My favourie e-mails are the ones with pictures of my adorable little niece attached. I don’t get to see her very often, so when I get pictures it makes my day! I also love to get e-mails from my best friend. She moved to Ireland 6 months ago, and I love catching up with her.
I can’t stand getting e-mails from companies I didn’t give my e-mail address to.
it’s bad enough I get calls from telemarketers, do they need to invade my e-mail as well?
LisaK on 02 Mar 2010 at 9:30 am #
Nicole, may I say that this is one fun post? I absolutely love that dry wit!
Now, I don’t know why but a few months back it began raining email on me every other day by some strange person from Burkina Faso or Sierra Leone or Spain or wherever. I have absolutely no idea what prankster got hold of my email address and now I’m being bombarded by that stuff and can’t make it stop. Well, okay, maybe “bombarded” is a very strong word, but I get one at least once a week. It’s always like “Urgent massage, pleese sent meyour name imediatly” because I’ve won a million dollars or something. It’s soooo bad! I’d sometimes like to respond just to tell that stupid guy to just stop getting on my nerves but who knows what I’ll get myself into if I do that???
I’ll rather leave it be…
Nicole Jordan on 02 Mar 2010 at 9:39 am #
>>>And I do have more than one e-mail addies. It’s tough to check them all when you are strapped for time. Isn’t that correct, Nicole?
Yep, ER! I have a system worked out and I love having different addies for different purposes, but it can be a pain to keep them all compartmentalized.
>>I wish I could zap all troubles with the ease I do my e-mails.
Dianna, I totally agree, lol. Wouldn’t that be great? I’m really glad I have a “deleted” file, bc sometimes I zap ones I don’t mean to zap and have to go resurrect them.
Julia London on 02 Mar 2010 at 9:39 am #
I zap without remorse, too. I told an old friend once that all she ever sent me was jokes and kitty pictures and she laughed and said she didn’t have anything else to say.
I get so much mail now that I lose some in junk mail, and then I gloss over things I shouldn’t. I have more than one email account, and one that I have gravitated to for friends and family, because the main one gets so full of so much junk.
Nicole Jordan on 02 Mar 2010 at 9:43 am #
Archer, that’s really smart to keep your banking stuff separate.
B, too funny about the iron working. I confess I haven’t ironed anything in at least four years.
>>>If I’ve incurred bad luck from it, that might explain a few things . . .
LOL Lori! Come to think of it, maybe I’m in the same boat.
>>I wish that Prince in that foreign country would just send me the money. I sure could use it.
Me too, Judy! lol

>>>All it takes is two minutes on truthorfiction dot com
Wow, Cail, I didn’t know that! That’s great to know. Thanks!
And I’m embarrassed to say I don’t have a facebook account. Dh does, and I use that if I need to have a fb link, like for the Borders blog I did recently. But I’ve never found the time to go set one up. And the one time I did look, there was already an actress in L.A. named Nicole Jordan who had claimed that name.
I think if I do, I’ll use NicoleJordanAuthor, which is what I have to use for my website url. It was just my luck that years ago when I first set up a website, there was already a Nicole Jordan who was a computer techie.
SheridanLA on 02 Mar 2010 at 9:51 am #
Cail is correct that I agree with her. I send “this is BS” and the link to the information. I do it with urban legends, email tracking “oh, you get a free ipad!” emails, BS political emails (if yer gonna spend propaganda, check the facts, people) and a whole host of things.
I have 7 email addresses between work and home, some are junk, some don’t get a lot of action.. but all are checked on a semi-regular basis. It has taken years, but I have trained all the mass forwarders to stop it. I do have a problem sometimes with a few friends of friends who have not yet learned how to not reply to all (though many of these are when we are talking about an event or something.. everyone wants to see who else is participating.)
It is like everything else, there are always gonna be a few people that don’t get it… bless their little hearts.
Michelle on 02 Mar 2010 at 9:52 am #
I zap quickly and often. I hate having a full email box. Very rarely will I send a mass email, if I’m annoyed with them I’m not going to annoy anyone else. If I do forward a message I erase all the address in the original email before sending. I hate scanning through 1000000 email address to find out I don’t want to save lives by forwarding the email. I have the emails I check everyday – Smart Bitches Trash Books, Hungry Girl, and all family and friends, those are the best!
Nicole Jordan on 02 Mar 2010 at 10:17 am #
>>>I like getting coupons & sale notices for stores I shop at. The others, I’ll take 2 minutes & unsubscribe. Speaking of which, got my Coach coupon – spring sale starts Friday, new spring/summer purse?? – WOOT!
Fun, NancyG! I hope you get something great.
Claudia, I must not be on the right mailing lists cause I don’t get sale notices for anything I want to buy!
MichelleB, what is FW? And yes, you can’t hurt your dad’s feelings!
Kathy, it’s tough to figure out how to train friends and family. A dear friend used to send me jokes all the time, and I hurt her feelings when I asked her to stop.
Anybody have a polite way to manage senders’ feelings?
Kay on 02 Mar 2010 at 10:21 am #
I don’t open emails I don’t recognized. About a month ago, I was hit with a ransom virus and I’m not sure whether it was the internet surfing or an email but my computer had to be rebuilt. I was very upset. I hate those annoying chain mail and please don’t send me something that is hilarious, because I bet my humor and yours isn’t the same. One of the scary things is when somehow you address box has been violated and you start getting emails from people you know, but it’s fake. I’ve been tricked a couple of times into opening one of those. I have my barracuda operative now, I was really getting tired of the Russian Brides and Rolex watches.
Nicole Jordan on 02 Mar 2010 at 10:22 am #
Elsie, that is so cool that you have relatives and friends scattered all over the world. And I’m starting to get baby pics too. I’ve learned that I have to send back at least one word in reply with something like “adorabable” or “precious.”
Amy, do you have a video cam? My mom and bro video several times a day…. he’s overseas with his wife and young daughter, and that allows my mom to watch her granddaughter grow up.
My current laptop and even my new little Netbook have video cams, but I haven’t figured out a reason why I would want anyone to see me live, expecially in the morning before I’ve showered and put on makeup!
Nicole Jordan on 02 Mar 2010 at 10:29 am #
LisaK, thank you for the compliment! I wrote that late last night after I’d had a really long day and I was seeing cross-eyed. So I’m glad you thought it showed wit instead of frustration at the very thought of getting all that spam, lol.
>> I have more than one email account, and one that I have gravitated to for friends and family, because the main one gets so full of so much junk.
Julia, that’s pretty much how I started getting more than one addy. Then you can ignore the spammy one for longer periods of time.
Sheridan, you have more addies than I do!
And I agree that it bugs me when folks hit “reply all” to a long list when they only need to reply to the sender.
I get a lot of e-mail on digest, which is great for consolidating e-mails for different loops. Makes reading a lot faster too.
Nicole Jordan on 02 Mar 2010 at 10:31 am #
Michelle, what is Hungry Girl? Sounds intriguing.
>>> please don’t send me something that is hilarious, because I bet my humor and yours isn’t the same.
Hear, hear, Kay! That’s the big problem with comedy and jokes for me.
And I’m glad to say I’ve never been offered a Russian bride. Wonder how I missed out on that delectable treat?
Sabrina Jeffries on 02 Mar 2010 at 10:49 am #
I confess I don’t get much junk e-mail. I don’t know why–maybe it’s because I have a MAC address that never shows up online. But even my other e-mail addresses don’t get much junk. I used to use the earthlink spam filter where you can block certain domains, but I don’t even do that anymore. Odd. I sure hope I get all my e-mail. It would be terrible if people were writing me that I didn’t know about. Hope that’s not happening!
My junk mail has become more targeted–lots of people trying to get me into their author promo packages. Since I have a publicist, I zap all those (or forward them to her).
Janae on 02 Mar 2010 at 11:09 am #
I do or used to do exactly what Sheridan does. I don’t get those kind of emails from friends and family anymore. It’s nice.
I automatically most everything from my sil because she just sends forwards. I haven’t told her because she already thinks that I don’t like her. About a decade ago she received some junk mail from CA about weight loss after one of my visits. Just because it was from CA, it had to be from me, even though, it was obviously junk mail. My brother even asked one of our sisters if I sent it. She laughed at him because I don’t care about that kind of stuff. Inspite of all that, she still thinks I sent it. We don’t talk much when I visit because she can’t see the world beyond the city limits. She doesn’t read, and we have NOTHING in common. Obviously, my brother didn’t marry her for her conversation.
I love emails from my favorite stores because there’s always a coupon in it.
Amy on 02 Mar 2010 at 11:12 am #
Nicole, we do use Skype for video chats, but my niece is only 2, so there isn’t a lot of talking from her. I like getting pictures because then I can print them off and put them in my photo album.
My mom is the worst for forwarding unwanted e-mails. I don’t have the heart to tell her not to send them, so I just delete them as they come in. My husband is always joking that he is going to block her e-mail address, but like me, he just shakes his head and quickly deletes them.
Suzanne Enoch on 02 Mar 2010 at 11:37 am #
Yep, I’m a zapper, too. I love getting email from readers and friends, but I hate the mass chain mails and joke loops that people keep adding me to.
Michelle B on 02 Mar 2010 at 12:18 pm #
FW = Forward or in some cases Fw.
Karen Rose on 02 Mar 2010 at 12:37 pm #
I zap the chain emails, too. Drives me nuts. I’m sorry if you’ve sent me one, folks, but I zap them without remorse. Well, maybe just a little remorse. I don’t want to hurt y’all’s feelings after all, but for the love of all that’s holy, take me off your distribution list!!!
Okay, I feel better now.
One more thing – I really hate the ones that say “forward to your ten best friends, including the person that sent it to you.” Then there’s a legend at the bottom for the sender – if you get back 10, you’re loved, 8, you’re okay… But if you only get back 1 or 2 it’s obvious that you are unloved and that it sucks to be you.
TOO MUCH PRESSURE!!! Now I have to feel guilty for taking the sender’s “return score” down by one.
Still, I zap. Totally zap.
Margaret on 02 Mar 2010 at 1:28 pm #
I am in the remorseless zapper category. I hate chain letters and used to toss them back in the days when they came snail mail.
Nicole Jordan on 02 Mar 2010 at 1:36 pm #
Sabrina, glad your MAC is working out so well! And I worry a lot that readers aren’t getting my replies when their spam filters zap my return e-mails. I’m sure they’ll think I’m terribily rude.
Janae, loved your story about your SIL. I’m that way with mine… nothing in common!
Nicole Jordan on 02 Mar 2010 at 1:38 pm #
Amy, it’s so wonderful that with the Internet, you don’t have to miss quite so much of your young niece’s growing up years.
>>My mom is the worst for forwarding unwanted e-mails. I don’t have the heart to tell her not to send them, so I just delete them as they come in. My husband is always joking that he is going to block her e-mail address, but like me, he just shakes his head and quickly deletes them.

Thanks, MichelleB! I wondered if I had missed something. And I’m lousy at trying to figure out achronyms.
>>> But if you only get back 1 or 2 it’s obvious that you are unloved and that it sucks to be you.
LOL, KarenR!! And I joined you in your rant. That’s one of the great things about TGB — just typing out my feelings helps me get stuff off my chest so I can concentrate on other things.

Another thing a good friend of mine has yet to learn cut and paste. By the time i Get to the body of the email I no longer care to read it. LOL
Nicole Jordan on 02 Mar 2010 at 5:51 pm #
Yes, Judy, that bugs me too! Especially when I’m on digest. I get the entire digest!
Unfortunately the e-mail program I use automatically copies everything before, so I have to take the trouble to select and delete all the stuff I don’t want, and sometimes that’s just too much trouble.
But maybe I ought to be more considerate of my recipients since I’m whining about the extraneous stuff I get *G*.
Robin/RBL on 02 Mar 2010 at 6:09 pm #
Well, I am on my computer all day at work, so I don’t spend too much time on it at home, and what little time I do spend, I don’t want to read a katrillion jokes.
My best friend (who is a domestic goddess) sends approx 10 emails “fwd” at a time and I will pick one with the best subj line, read it, possibly comment back to her, and then zap the rest. That way, her feelings are not hurt and I can move on quickly.
The chain mails can actually be intrusive, if the sender of the original has a cookie or java or tracker on there…or whatever its called…I zap ALL chain letters. Hate them.
Tina on 02 Mar 2010 at 6:13 pm #
I have been a bad girl and not checked 3 out of my 4 e-mail addresses since sometime in January. My first address is work (it is the only one I’ve been reading). The second address I got before I got internet, I can access it anywhere. Now I use it to send messages when I’m traveling and most of my author newsletters are sent to it. The third I got from the phone company when I signed up for internet. It is my official e-mail address. Since I never changed the password from the one assigned, I can’t remember it, so I do not check it when I travel. Outlook Express has the password saved on my computer. The fourth address I got basically for junk e-mail, when you get sucked into voting for something on the internet and they want an addess to send a confirmation, I use it.
One person that usually sends good e-mails, I can’t send to others. For some reason the e-mails always have the photos missing. It does not matter which address he sends them to, they are always gone. Rather a bummer since many of my contacts would enjoy the patriotic e-mails.
Kathy on 02 Mar 2010 at 6:15 pm #
now I feel left out that I only have two email addies. one from home and one i use to gather my home ones while I’m out.

I am a remorseless zapper, I have made my adjustments to zappage without guilt. Send me a FW and your gone before I can read “Couldn’t resist. Too cute!” My grand-daughters are too cute but I bet Margaret would prefer Big O over them, she would be wrong but so it goes. If it starts with Dear Beloved in Christ, outa here. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a non-Christian so Christ and I don’t chat all that much anymore, don’t send me the message that you want to share your millions with me because we have the same beliefs.
I love email from family and friends, except when Mom FW’s stuff. She does know enough NOT to FW any from my cousin Jean because our political views are so far apart I’m amazed we are in the same gene pool.
Louisa Cornell on 02 Mar 2010 at 8:24 pm #
If it is a business looking e-mail or from someone I don’t know it gets zapped ASAP !! Anything that looks annoying or like a scam gets zapped as well. My newsletters from authors go into the folders I have for each of them.
Another folder I have is for e-mails from the Beau Monde loop that answer questions I might be able to use at a later date or for those that list research books. I am a complete SLUT for Regency research books and info.
My favorite e-mails are from my critique partner, my writing buddies/author friends or anything that tells me something great is going on at one of my favorite blogs.
I also love e-mails from my family and friends. I have friends all over the world so e-mail is a real blessing to all of us. After 9/11 my e-mail box was STUFFED with e-mails from my friends in Europe, Australia, and Asia. For many people overseas the concept of how big this country is doesn’t always compute. So, I get e-mails after every major event and I love it. Not to mention the fact that we (especially my opera singing compadres) are terrible gossips and very nosy. We “get into each other’s business” on a regular basis via e-mail!
