Like, dude … I don’t wanna know

InfoPowerThey say “information is power.”  Not sure who the “they” are, but “they” must be wise, right?

Hmmm.  Not so sure about that anymore.  In this age of info-at-a-click, we get Dustmitedeluged with data, and I don’t know about you, but I’m not feeling any more powerful than I did before.  In fact, I’m feeling a lot less powerful than before.

“Before what?” you ask.  Ahh.  Before THIS (cue scary music):

This is a dust mite.  It lives in your carpet and feeds on your dust.  (ICK!)

“Eat my dust!” you might say.  “Welcome to it!  Eat it all!  Saves me the trouble of vacuuming!”  You might say that, but you would be WRONG! (cue more scary music)

Because living in your dust is more ICK than you can shake a stick at.  Leading scientistsScientist say so, and we know they are never wrong.  So, living in your dust is:

  • Shed bits of human skin, animal fur, decomposing insects
  • Food debris
  • Lint and organic fibers from clothes, bedding and other fabrics
  • Tracked-in soil, soot, particulate matter from smoking and cooking
  • And, disturbingly, lead, arsenic and even DDT.

These scientists have even come up with a computer algorithm to model how the dust gets in and leaves — IT NEVER LEAVES — and how your dust is different than your neighbors’ and your Aunt Didi who lives in Poughkeepsie.

This, my friends, is far more than I want to know.  I do not want to think about the bits of shed skin in my carpet or the decomposing insects that get into my food.  I am far, far happier not knowing.

Information may be power, but ignorance is bliss.  I like bliss.  Unfortunately, I’m also a power-hungry information junkie, so I’m totally conflicted.

The best thing I can do is not click on the articles with disturbing titles like “Dust’s Disturbing Components,” “Space Junk Collision Averted,” (whew!), and “Danger Lurks Under Megacities,” opting instead for comfort-reads such as “Kardashian’s Sizzling Mini” (it did indeed sizzle) and “Surprising Things You Can Recycle.”  (That recycling one was a real nail-biter.)

“How Asexual Species Survive” was one I couldn’t resist.  I clicked, therefore I know.  Whether I wanted to or not.

Are you an information junkie?  Do you click on articles?  Do you feel more informationally powerful than you did before?  What have you learned that you really did not want to know?  Did you read the one about Kardashian’s sizzling miniskirt?

I do! I’ve a plethora of unuseable knowledge obtained by clicking on various articles online or looking things up. Little factoids that are good conversation starters…but if used unwisely can also kill a conversation.

Knowledge I Probably Shouldn’t Have Pursued: After the movie Changeling I looked up the serial killer it was based on. Had nightmares for weeks. I read this stuff all the time, but that particular story just…*shuddah*.

I didn’t read the one about Kardashian’s Sizzling Mini Skirt, I did however read the one on the missing young Mr. Koenig, whom I did not realize was Chekov from Star Trek’s son.

I do click on strange article like dust mites. Do you realize what lives in your eyelashes? You probably don’t want to know!

Dust mites don’t bother me. What makes me scratch is the idea of bed bugs, which I understand are making a come back BIG TIME in hotels. ICK!!! First thing I do is pull off the bedspread and look for bed bug traces. Am I paranoid? Probably!

And you DON”T want to watch the YouTube videos using black lights in hotel rooms. And you DO NOT want to watch the YouTube video of how the maid cleans your hotel room. And you DO NOT want to use that water glass in your room or that coffee pot. (Elaine Viets has hotel maid stories that would curl your hair!)

Great…now I’m going to scratch all night. Sigh. I should have read this first thing in the morning.

Since I have been unemployed the last 16 months I have probably OD’d on news. I do go out of my way to search for happy, uplifting stories before I go to bed. I also use them to study trends to see if that could give me some sort of direction I want to go in for the future Starting over at 55 is hard.
Karen I also use your books, and of course other favorite authors like Kay Hooper and Allison Brennan for my main source of entertainment. I really don’t care about celebutantes like the Kardashians and the Hiltons.
I hate the whole faux celebrity era we are in. The other news I try to stay up on even though it raises my blood pressure! Thanks for all the hours of entertainment and escapism you have given me.
    Regards,
    Dinah

I don’t wanna know about what happens in surgery. There was the odd show on TV for a while that showed operations being performed. The whole nine yards was right there and visible: skin being cut and peeled back, etc. Ick!

I don’t wanna know about anything that causes any celebrity to go into rehabilitation for whatever. I don’t even want to know they have gone into rehabilitation, but I really don’t want to know the details that caused it. I think people should have some privacy when they hit bad spots, even if they live their lives for publicity.

I don’t ever want to know what is in hot dogs or bologna. We should probably add most sausages to that list. And Spam (not that I have eaten it in decades). And there is something called head cheese out there that really—I don’t want to know.

I don’t want to know any of that fascinating scientific stuff that deals with how many brains cells are dying every day after you pass thirty years of age. Oh, and I read an article last weekend explaining how our creativity peaks in our late 20s. That was more than I wanted to know, thank you.

  7. Sabrina on 24 Feb 2010 at 2:09 am #

My sister explained to me last year what exactly dust is and it’s making me crazy ever since. I constantly tell her to not give me any more information like this.
But in general I like information and enjoy to know how things work. So as long as it’s not about dust I’m willing to learn.

  8. Anne on 24 Feb 2010 at 5:04 am #

I do feel the need to keep informed however I didn’t read the dust mites. I did read the megacities and the recycling but skipped over Kim to read about the Bachelor secrets because I missed the episode the night it aired. I pick and choose how much information I need because the more overwhelmed I get, the more I want to just go to bed and hide.

  9. Judy f on 24 Feb 2010 at 6:38 am #

My friends say I am full of useless info. That is why they want me on their teams for trivia games. LOL

I love finding out strange and different things. Sometimes I don’t read the whole story if it makes me ill. LOL

Hey Karen missed you at Rad this year.

  10. cail on 24 Feb 2010 at 6:46 am #

I’m a clicker. Luckily, I usually don’t get too grossed out. I know this for sure, since I was able to watch True Blood recently while eating dinner. If you’ve seen that show, you know I have a strong stomach for the gross.

I find information to be comforting usually. I suppose sometimes it is gross (I try to get my DH to vacuum more often) but the fact of life is, even dirt is worm poop and all sorts of decomposed matter. Everything is gross!

  11. Kathy on 24 Feb 2010 at 7:02 am #

I used to read my mom’s medical books for fun when I was a kid, complete with gross out pictures of pustules and lesions. so it takes a lot to get me disgusted.
I took my then 15 yr old niece with me and the children I nannied on a trip to the museum. During March break they have kid friendly exhibits.
    this one was bugs.
there was a wall in the exhibit that had the lists of foods that had teeny percentages of insect bits in them. she grabbed pen and paper, stood there for a long time writing all the foods she vowed never to eat again. she is 25 now, and as far as I know, has avoided these foods.
meanwhile, I bought a meal worm lollipop at the giftshop to bring home.

some things I have no interest in, I yell “TMI” to get someone to shaddup!
like my wine-induced sis in law extoling the bedroom virtues of my brother. ick NO!!!

  12. LoriHandeland on 24 Feb 2010 at 7:20 am #

I remember that show, Madeline! I would always grab the controller and turn it OFF. No way do I want to see someone’s insides in living color on my TV!

I’m an info junkie in certain ways. Like yesterday I was looking up info on Loch Ness and Castle Urquhart and Kelpies and found all sorts of cool things by clicking. But I won’t click on random stuff because I might find out things I don’t want to know.

I definitely do feel more informationized these days. I know that I can find out whatever I want to know at the touch of my finger to my iphone. Most of my family will now say “have Lori look it up” whenever we are anywhere and they want to know something.

The only things I can think of that I haven’t wanted to know are details of murders and the like. I’ll click on the link just to see what they heck happened and they give me TMI!

Anything that has the word Kardashian is something I definitely avoid clicking on.

  13. Freshechelle on 24 Feb 2010 at 7:35 am #

Yes, there is info I now know that I wish I didn’t know: Bed bugs and all hotel cleanliness horror stories that don’t discriminate based on the quality of the hotel. I just close my mind and chant “it’s only a movie” when I travel. What choice do I have?

  14. Pesky on 24 Feb 2010 at 7:57 am #

Oh! I never watch that show “Restaurant Nightmares”. *shuddah*

  15. Karen Rose on 24 Feb 2010 at 8:02 am #

    Y’all are cracking me up!

Fresh, you have no choice. No choice at all, unless you buy an RV and live in it as you travel and that’s simply not practical, especially on those transoceanic trips!

Lori, I don’t normally click on the Kardashian stories either, (who the heck ARE these people, anyway?), but I was researching for this blog. So I did it for YOU.

Kathy, I LOL’d at the bedroom virtues of your brother! Definitely TMI. Ewwwww.

  16. Claudia Dain on 24 Feb 2010 at 8:03 am #

I’ve known the “secrets” about dust for a long, long time (anyone else addicted to Weird Al?). The secret about the tiny lice that live in every single human being’s eyebrows I could have gone to my grave not knowing. But mostly, I like knowing stuff. Seeing stuff is another matter altogether!

  17. Karen Rose on 24 Feb 2010 at 8:10 am #

Cail, I’ll often watch BONES during dinner, especially if it’s a new one. (Almost put a # in front of BONES, LOL! For you non-Tweeples, it’s a twitter thing.) Only one that really grossed me out was the Gamer in the Grease when they pulled the body out and … well, it was nasty. Trust me.

Judy, I missed Cinci Reader Appreciation Day, too! But I was signing books here in Sarasota to benefit the Mote Marine Lab. It was a little warmer here, but not that much… Next year!

Anne, laughing! You must peruse Yahoo “news” too. I also want to go to bed and hide. I deliberately avoided MegaCities as I have nightmares about such end-of-the-worldish things.

  18. Amy on 24 Feb 2010 at 8:13 am #

I always click on articles that I regret later on. It’s kind of like not being able to turn away from a car crash. My curiousity always gets the better of me. I once read an article on how your mattress doubles it’s weight over 10 years due to all the dust mites it collects. For a week afterward I cringed everytime I got into bed. Also, when they take a black light into a hotel room and expose all the areas where body fluids have been left, yuck!

Thank goodness I have enough control to avoid anything Hilton or Kardashian!

  19. Karen Rose on 24 Feb 2010 at 8:15 am #

Sabrina, it’s good to have an open mind. Except then the dust can get in…

Madeline, ew. I’ve seen those medical shows, too and now I just keep on going. Hubby used to watch them and I would be totally grossed out. He’d say, “But you do worse things to your victims in books!” But that is so different. Which is my story and I’m sticking to it!

Dinah – thank you! I’m so glad our books are helping. Good luck in the search. Starting over at 38 was hard for me. I know 55 is much harder still.

  20. nancyg on 24 Feb 2010 at 8:15 am #

I knew about the dust mites – I vacuum & flip mattresses here once a month (which was yesterday coincidentally, lol).

I like having information…having answers to questions at my fingertips in an instant.

However, at the same time, I’m upset at the demise of the library card catalog & encyclopedias. My kids are freaking L-A-Z-Y – they Google. I don’t think the youngest even knows how to look up something in an encyclopedia (We donated our set about 5 years ago…too out of date!).

Yeah, who the heck are the Kardashians? Paris Hilton? Nicole Ritchie? People who are famous for wearing a new outfit every time they go out? and totally vapid to boot!!

But on the other hand, *love* looking up new/upcoming book, movie & DVD releases, reading excerpts, watching trailers, reading reviews…
and if I hear a news story, I can look up the full story online.

  21. Karen Rose on 24 Feb 2010 at 8:19 am #

ArkCyndi, I saw that news report on the maids in hotel rooms and I NEVER EVER EVER drink out of the glasses. If they leave plastic cups all wrapped up, I’ll use those. Most of the time I’m drinking water from bottles when I travel.

Pesky, DH just saw Changeling and was impressed with the movie, altho so sad at the topic. Thanks for the heads up on the real killer involved. I’ll make sure I’m emotionally ready before reading up. And I was sad to see the story on Walter Koenig’s son, too. I hope they find him, safe and sound.

  22. Karen Rose on 24 Feb 2010 at 8:24 am #

Claudia, I knew about dust too, but seeing the article revitalized my memory and sent me scurrying after dustmite pictures for dramatic effect! Don’t wanna know what is in my eyelashes. Will stick my fingers in my ears and Lalalalala if anyone tries to tell me.

What’s the Weird Al connection? I like him, but am coming up blank on Weird Al + dust.

Amy, don’t wanna see the black light in hotel room story. I’ve seen the black light demonstrated on “certain stains” **ahem** and I know they’re all over the hotel I’m sleeping in. Don’t wanna know, Do Not Want To Know. Ew.

Now I feel so dirty for clicking on Kardashian and her miniskirt. But it did sizzle, I have to agree.

  23. Karen Rose on 24 Feb 2010 at 8:28 am #

Nancy G, yes, the kids are LAZY, but so are we to an extent. My parents walked to school both ways, uphill, in the snow, even in June. With no shoes. Just ask them :-) (Not really, I just made that up.)

Me and DH? All of the above except the June part. We keep the story REAL.

If you like book trailers, just wait till you see what I have cooking! (Not really cooking, I used that word totally metaphorically as I do not cook for anyone.)

I have the most amazing book trailers in production. Hoping to unveil sometime in the next month!

  24. TrishD on 24 Feb 2010 at 8:48 am #

I am a huge info junkie. CNN is my drug of choice. I have to check it out every day and the crazier the headlines, the more I have to read the article! Here are the headlines from today that I just had to click on… “Lesbian mom faces arrest”, “City won’t pay for funeral party”, “Cops: Car theives call 911″ and “Man calls cops after pot theft”. How can you pass up articles like that? You might be able to but I can’t… it’s a sickness… I may need a 12 step program.

I do however tend to stay away from celebrity news, I had not heard of the sizzling miniskirt.

    >>My parents walked to school both ways, uphill, in the snow, even in June. With no shoes. Just ask them (Not really, I just made that up.)<<

I have to laugh!! I became everyone's grandma a few months ago. My dh and I were talking to my step-son, who is now 16 and drives to school, telling him that we had to walk to school every day, even in the heavy snow. Knowing the route my dh took had 2 hills I proceeded to tell my step-son, "And your dad had to walk up hill! Both ways!" I looked at him, said "Yeah, I'm old" and left the conversation. :)

  25. Brenna on 24 Feb 2010 at 9:00 am #

I’m horrified by some of the things I find out our “young people” are doing – especially on-line. I fear for our country when I realize these are the people who will be in charge as I go into my golden years. And then I realize that’s exactly how my parents generation undoubtedly felt about my generation. Turns out they were probably right. :)

  26. Michelle B on 24 Feb 2010 at 9:19 am #

I used to read the newspaper every day. Front page and then to the editorials. When we moved often it was the best way to get to know the new community and see what made them tick.

Then came the internet, which when I discovered how much was out there could get lost for hours going from one topic to another through links. Felt like a time warp, or black hole.

Now I feel jaded. There is too much out there. I have to admit though, that if you do want to find out about something, there are usually multiple sites to help you out. We no longer go blindly to the Doctor to let him tell us what is wrong and how to treat. We find out as much as we can first.

  27. Julia London on 24 Feb 2010 at 9:44 am #

Okay, at the risk of too much information…Once, during a gynecological exam, the doctor swung around a mirror and asked brightly, “would you like to see what I’m seeing?” Ohmigod NO NO and NO! That is information I sort of vaguely have but don’t need the fine details, if you know what I mean.

  28. SheridanLA on 24 Feb 2010 at 9:47 am #

I love learning about all the random stuff that is out there. I also love now having all that information at my fingertips. I have wicked google-fu skillz and totally enjoy searching for exactly what I want to know.

As far as the items like dust mites, etc… yeah, the pics are not overly cute, but they are there… and someone, somewhere needed to find something to write about. So whether or not it is the norm, we now have a huge issue with the mites, bacteria (bad, yes – but so is the overkill on antibacterial. Superbugs, anyone?) and icky that go on in hotels, on planes, in schools, hospitals, etc. Millions have gone before us with the same things around and made it through, ya know?

It is amazing being able to find out things you did not even know you might want to find out about!

  29. Claudia Dain on 24 Feb 2010 at 9:55 am #

Karen, Weird Al did a song about all the parasites that live on our bodies, unseen. It’s the one song of his I routinely skip. LOL TMI!! TMI!!

  30. B on 24 Feb 2010 at 10:18 am #

I don’t wanna know, thanks! I’m living very comfortably NOT knowing. Of course, I LOVE to learn. But there are a lot of non gross things to be learned, so, I’ll stick to those.

It’s like that thing that for every cockroach you see, there are 100 around crawling hidden nearby. Uuuuuuggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!

(I haven’t felt like talking to anyone lately, but I hadn’t been here in a few days, so, I had to come and say hi) :)

  31. Sabrina Jeffries on 24 Feb 2010 at 10:39 am #

We’re glad to have you here, B!

I click on the articles, and sometimes I find the info useful, but the problem is that so much of the info is contradictory. Chocolate is bad for you; no, a little bit of chocolate is good for you. Wine is bad; no, some wine is better than no wine. Sheesh! I just want to bury my head in the sand.

  32. Karen Rose on 24 Feb 2010 at 11:08 am #

Sabrina, I agree. I tend to listen to the conflicting data I like best. Which is like burying my head in the sand, LOL.

B – good to see you back here! I have to believe it’s more like 1000 or a million cockroaches for every one you see. THey’ll take over the world after all. ‘

Thanks, Claudia! Will check out Weird Al and his dust ode. I follow him on Twitter. He’s a hoot.

Sheridan – I agree. Oodles of folks made it through without knowing or doing anything about the dust mites. We can too. Maybe…

  33. colinfirthfan on 24 Feb 2010 at 11:10 am #

That’s funny – I read the exact same article yesterday. All I wanted to know was – how do we fix the dang dust mites and arsenic etc… Nothing much about that in there.

I wanted to read the space junk and asexual species article but didn’t have time :) I ignore anything to do with the Kardashians!!!

I like reading strange, quirky news stories as well as the run of the mill stuff.

  34. Karen Rose on 24 Feb 2010 at 11:12 am #

Julia, Hahaha! I have a similar gyno moment that I will self-edit completely out.

MichelleB – I agree. The info out there can be used for good. Unfortunately I have to parse myself, especially when researching a book. Too many wild directions to go.

Hi, I’m Karen and I’m an information junkie.

Brenna – exactly! I tell myself this every time I sigh over my own teenagers. Which is several times a day.

  35. B on 24 Feb 2010 at 11:20 am #

Thanks, K-Ro. As if I wasn’t frightened enough with 100. :( I don’t have a problem with bugs or insects in general. Not with the normal animals people are usually scared of. Give me rats, snakes, spiders and everything else, I’ll even think they’re cute. But I’m absolutely TERRIFIED of roaches. They’re my 3rd biggest fear, after 1) Losing people I love and 2) Fire and before 4) Nuns :)

  36. Suzanne Enoch on 24 Feb 2010 at 11:58 am #

I prefer the big picture. The one that doesn’t show all the world’s tiny creepy crawlies or tell me how many of them live in my house or on me.

Now I’m going to go take a shower. *G*

  37. Ellen on 24 Feb 2010 at 12:13 pm #

Hi My Dear Goddesses…. Miss you all madly.

But OMG. I leave for work. Come back. And it’s the same hysterical stuff going on around here.

Rule #12 for my Gyno. If I cannot see it without a mirror, I don’t want to…er…same for the gastroenteroligist.

I know about the dust mite / dead skin thing and it makes me throw up a little in my mouth. My son loves to freak me out by saying stuff like “In 5 years, 80% of your mattresses weight is made up of dead skin and bugs.” Freak Me Out!

As far as Kardashian…I do watch with the same enthusiasm I watch a car race. CAN’t WAIT FOR THE CRASH. AND That new baby is not Scotts. You heard it here first.

I gotta visit more. Still loving your books, but not working out of the home anymore.

  38. Ellen on 24 Feb 2010 at 12:14 pm #

er….same for the sales clerk at Macy’s too.

  39. Pesky on 24 Feb 2010 at 12:17 pm #

Factoid of the day: Did you know that Plum Island off the east coast of Long Island, is the government’s top secret research facility for animal diseases and any wild animal found on it is killed on site due to the nature of its research? However, it is one of audobon’s favorite bird sites so the facility does allow bird nesting to go on. :o

  40. evlqn on 24 Feb 2010 at 1:11 pm #

Knew about the dust mites but I ripped up my carpets years ago and painted the floors, now I have them covered in laminate flooring and tile.

Do not tell me what is in hot dogs, sausage or anything else I like, I know but I am in denial leave me alone.

I am a researcher I cannot help myself but I do steer clear of the ookie stuff whenever possible. And the Kardashians are part and parcel with ook!

I do have a favorite useless piece of knowledge, in the Neolithic era in Skarra Brae, Scotland they used sesame seeds on their bread. I don’t know why I love that bit of info, I just do.

Julia had your Dr gotten into the catnip?? What was he thinking? Major TMI.

  41. nancyg on 24 Feb 2010 at 1:38 pm #

Pesky, did you read Nelson B. DeMille’s novel, Plum Island?? good story, if I remember correctly. Plus, he wrote a sequel years later as well, I believe (Why aren’t those brain cells firing on all cylinders when you need them?).

Julia – LOL @ the OB/GYN appt. Which reminds me, note to self: schedule waxing before next visit…. *bg* (speaking of TMI, lol).

RE: dust mites – Now knowing what you know, how would you like to be the mattress delivery driver that has to haul away the old ones? ugh – not. Maybe a suggestion for the show, Dirty Jobs (which Mr. G Tivos!) ??

The “reality” shows I like to watch are Intervention, Hoarders, Cake Boss, Top Chef, Trauma: Life in the ER. Not so much the “celebutante” shows – what’s all this hullabahoo over *Jersey Shore*?? My guilty pleasure is the “Real” Housewives, but 99% of the time, their kids are total head cases!!

  42. Karen Hawkins on 24 Feb 2010 at 3:30 pm #

I’m such a news junkie and I can’t imagine NOT wanting to know something. Even gross things make me think, “No WAY! I’m glad I know that.” You never know when you might end up in a Trivia Game and NEED that fact. Heck, you could win a trip to Burmuda or something cool!

    It happens. Sometimes.

B, I’m with you on the Nun Fear. Nothing makes me quake like a nun with a ruler. “I’VE HEARD ABOUT YOU PEOPLE! PUT THAT RULER DOWN OR I’LL SCREEEEEAM!” :)

  43. cail on 24 Feb 2010 at 4:03 pm #

ELLEN! Welcome back. We miss you.

  44. Nicole Jordan on 24 Feb 2010 at 4:21 pm #

Dust mites are scary things! LOL Thanks for making my day with your fun and funny blog, Karen.

Yep, I’m a news junkie, too. But I’ve really really tried to be better these past few months so I’m not wasting so much time. I truly had an addiction. Not totally recovered yet but I’m better!

  45. Kathy on 24 Feb 2010 at 4:39 pm #

I am addicted to TMZ…so funny
as well as imdb. I cannot go farther in a movie if I know i’ve seen some actor or actress but can’t place them. It drives me nuts is i can’t do it in less than ten mins and makes my friend laugh when I launch myself into my pc chair and started looking it up while the movie is paused.

  46. evlqn on 24 Feb 2010 at 5:16 pm #

B, I’m a survivor of the Nun Wars, we had our very own Sister Mary Discipline at St. Pat’s.She would go charging into the boys bathroom if she thought they were taking too long in there. One day she didn’t like my attitude (me ?? attitude??) and I got a full swing to the face. I thanked her because I had been suffering with a toothache all day and that wallop shifted something and the toothache stopped. The bruise took a few days longer to go away. My dad went in and offered to plunk her head from her shoulders if she ever touched me again. Daddy wasn’t Catholic they had nothing to scare him with.

I like Ace of Cakes better than Cake Boss because Duff is like a little boy with neat toys.

  47. Pesky on 24 Feb 2010 at 5:29 pm #

I’ll have to look for it Nancyg. Thanks!

  48. Karen Rose on 24 Feb 2010 at 5:52 pm #

Evqln – I agree about Duff on Ace of Cakes. He is just like a small boy with cool toys!

Kathy I’m addicted to imdb also. I blame Mr. R. If I can’t place an actress I look her up right away.

We have a bit of nun fear toosince one of my kids flipped off a nun way long ago. The daughter was a toddler and mimicking some of the big kids at school. She didn’t know what she was doing. Still I think that can earn u some serious afterlife repercussions!

Karen H and evlqn, funniest thing is, I was never mistreated by a nun. We didn’t even have nuns in my catholic school (which is why i went there in the first place, I could never have studied with them there). But I’m just absolutely terrified of them. No traumas, nothing, just natural, unexplained fear.

I will never forget my grandpa’s funeral. His sister’s a nun and ALL of her friends were there. I was literally shaking and hiding behind my mom. :/

    Julia, lmao!!!

In grade 10, a nun taught us Sex Ed. She was the coolest nun I knew.

Funny you should mention dust. On the front page of yahoo was an article entitled The Poisons and Allegens that make up household dust. I didn’t have time until right this minute. EWWWWWWW! I am hardly the most efficient cleaner but this makes me want to run around with a dust rag and mop and get rid of all those dust bunnies.
    Love & Hugs,
    Pam

K-Ro – I’ll have to set my Tivo for Ace of Cakes & check it out – thanks for the tip!!

We had – I’m not kidding you – Sister Ave Maria at St. Bonaventure – that woman could wield a yardstick!
P.S. trivia buffs – do they still have yardsticks? or are they “meter” sticks? in schools… I’ll have to check it out next time I visit my daughter’s 5th grade class. I know they still have yardsticks at the fabric stores…

I wouldn’t be an info junkie. I do like info but sometimes ignorance is bliss. If the title is interesting, I click on the article and browse through it. Then I get the gist of it and that’s enough for me. I do think some info empowers me but others just clog my mind. There are some stuff that I read and I didn’t like what it says, but even if I disagree, I consider it info. Useless info, but info nonetheless.

I know the Kardashians but do I care about her miniskirts? N-O. They are just reality starts. Nice for some trivial entertainment but I don’t put too much importance on it.

We live in a world where info is nearly possible to get (there are those info that takes time/effort, so I put nearly possible) and if one is curious about something, it can be answered immediately via the Internet and other media outlets.

If it doesn’t interest me, I ignore it. Again, sometimes ignorance is bliss.

I am a trivia junkie. So is my Dh and one of my kids. I have the unfortunate habit of spreading the knowledge via email, even if my friends & family are NOT trivia junkies.

My favorite web sites for all things trivial are the BBC and BoingBoing.
