Lights, Camera, Action!

speed-keanu-bullockI admit it–I am a fan of action films. Not all of them. Not the Steven Seagal or Jean-Claude Van Damme ones, for example. But if I’m flipping channels and I come across Speed, you can be sure I’ll watch at least a little of it. Explosions! Car chases! Good guys winning! What’s not to like?

My favorites tend to fall into four categories:

a) Police/crime action–Die Hard, the aforementioned Speed (Keanu Reeves, yum!), First Blood (the original Rambo film), the Lethal Weapon movies

b) Scifi (action with a space alien twist)–The Matrix (more Keanu Reeves, yum!), Independence Day, Aliens (or is that horror?), the Terminator movies, Jurassic Park (all three of them)

charlies_angelsc) Comic–the Charlie Angels movies, Men in Black (both 1 and 2), Beverly Hills Cop, True Lies (which I watched for about the fifteenth time the other night)

d) Comic BOOK–Spiderman, Batman Forever, X-Men, Superman

The best ones usually have a romance of some kind, but it’s not the center of the story.

Oddly enough, Hubby HATES action films, mostly because he’s so literal. He can’t suspend his disbelief. He can only do that while watching comedies (because they’re already supposed to strain credulity for the purpose of humor). For him, only comedies and documentaries are interesting, with the occasional drama or indie film thrown in.

explosionSo I watch all my action films alone while he rolls his eyes. It used to be that women didn’t watch many action films, but I’m finding more and more women who like these movies. Could it be that we are ALL fascinated by explosions, car chases, and mayhem? Or is it just the hunky guys that we women watch them for? I don’t know the answers, but I’m willing to pursue the line of inquiry.

So tell me–do you enjoy action films? And if you do like them, what is it about them that you like? Do you prefer any particular kind? If they don’t have any romance, do you lose interest? Which are your favorites and which ones did you think sucked bigtime (hello, sequels to Matrix and Speed)?

    Sabrina-

    wah-hoo! 1st post??

I love action movies – especially the mindless eye candy types!

I go for the old-school Jean Claude Van Damme – Bloodsport is a classic, I own the DVD – as well as Kickboxer – oh yeah, do THAT split again, bay-bee!!

Nic Cage before he went all politically correct – Face/Off, Con Air, The Rock, etc. I thought Men of War was pretty good too…but then again, he’ll always be Randy from Valley Girl for me!!

James Bond? blow something up! but dollars to doughnuts, Sean Connery is and always will be T-H-E quintessential Bond!! but I love looking at all the wanna-bes – I wouldn’t kick Pierce Brosnan (as long or Daniel Craig out of bed for eating crackers in bed

Love Gerard Butler in 300, Eric Bana & Brad Pitt in “Troy”, pretty much anything w/men in swords & minimal clothing; Russell Crowe in Gladiator, Clive Owen & Ioan Gruffudd in King Arthur….

also – whatever happened to Anthony Andrews? Scarlet Pimpernel & Brideshead Revisited… ok, done with action heroes, unless you want to talk sci-fi (but that’s Suzy E’s forte, isn’t it??)

maybe my mind is stuck in period pieces/historicals?

  2. Trini on 05 Dec 2009 at 3:43 am #

I think because of my husband and my son I saw a lot of action movies and I really like it… you described exactly my favourite films. I couldn’t tell you why I like this movies, sometimes the story, sometimes the fights, the explosions… or the hero (if the hero is Keanu I’m sure I’ll like the movie…). I don’t matter if there isn’t a love story, for that I see the romantic movies that I adore….
I love superhero movies and my favourite of all the time is (and will be) Superman playing by Christopher Reeve.
I love Star Wars, especialy first trilogy and I can’t forget Indiana Jones and James Bond (but I don’t like Daniel Craig, he isn’t Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan).
Oh, and I can’t forget Die Hard…. Bruce Willis is one of my favourite action heros… he is simplyh great, in ten minutes he is without jacket, dirty and full of blood but he alone always save everybody…
Well, there are many action movies that I love and I don’t like, anything, S.Segal and Van Damme but I think there’s only one film I really hate and it’s Rambo IV… too much violence and blood for me…

  3. Gillian on 05 Dec 2009 at 5:34 am #

I love action movies! Too many to list, but a few come to mind… Have you ever seen the Bulletproof Monk? Humor, action, and scifi. The Saint, good grief, one of my all time favorites because it was so totally romantic as well. True Lies is fabulous, isn’t it? Does Inkheart fall under this category? I loved it, too. Hey, for that matter, lets count The Pacifier–there are a few action scenes, and Vin Diesel, oh my goodness. :)

  4. Angela on 05 Dec 2009 at 6:31 am #

James Bond for action flicks! Sean Connery and Daniel Craig, both have the danger and sex appeal for the role. Highlander anyone? I like a little romance between the car chases, explosions, guns and witty one liners. I too like True Lies. I also like some sci-fi action movies, comic book inspired action movies. Die Hard With a Vengance I can watch over and over. I own all the Bond movies so can treat myself to an acton flick whenever I want.

  5. Freedom Writer on 05 Dec 2009 at 6:46 am #

I’m not a big fan of action movies although I do like select movies. I saw True Lies mentioned earlier, I like that one. James Bond movies are great. Angela mentioned Highlander. I like the tv series better than the movies. Another movie I like, but I’m not sure if it is action or suspense/thriller, is a movie called Basic. It stars John Travolta.

  6. Claudia Dain on 05 Dec 2009 at 7:59 am #

I love them, but I do require an interesting plot…and if that’s missing, at least very cool special effects! Romance not required.

I just saw Surrogates: sci fi crime drama with Bruce Willis. Enjoyed that. I also just rewatched 16 Blocks with Bruce Willis; amazing movie, just amazing. Die Hard is an old favorite.

I’m looking forward to Avatar because the special effects look amazing.

I also just saw 2012; the special effects didn’t disappoint so I was happy.

Predator is a real favorite of mine and, shock of all shocks, Predator vs. Alien worked for me. I thought it was better than it had any right to be; I was very impressed with how they hooked these two movie monsters together via backstory.

  7. Sabrina Jeffries on 05 Dec 2009 at 8:18 am #

Yep, nancyg, you’re the first post! Ooh, I forgot about James Bond. I LOVE Bond movies. But I’m behind–I haven’t seen the last three or four. I actually did like Roger Moore as Bond, mostly because I always loved the show The Saint. And I adore Pierce Brosnan in just about anything. But I hadn’t seen Daniel Craig yet–I know, where have I been?

Weirdly enough, I don’t get into the historical action ones much, but it just dawned on me that I do have a couple of favorites–The Patriot and Braveheart, though they’re not on the level of my other action favorites. I still haven’t seen 300, but one of these days …. And you reminded me that I loved Ransom and Conspiracy Theory, both of which I guess you could call action films. Oh, and I liked The Negotiator, too.

I’m with you on missing Anthony Andrews, though, even if he ISN’T an action figure. I loved Brideshead Revisited.

Trini, I do like Keanu, even if he sometimes looks too young for my taste. I like a lot of his movies (I liked Point Break–you get both Keanu AND Patrick Swayze!)

  8. LoriHandeland on 05 Dec 2009 at 8:20 am #

Love action movies. They’re my movie of choice. I’m not sure why, but I just love it when things blow up and people run and get chased and get the crap beat of them and then beat the crap out of someone else. Nothing better.

Doesn’t matter to me if there’s a romance or not as long as there’s enough plot and character to carry the movie. I need a reason to want stuff blown up I guess.

I just watched True Lies and Speed this week, which were on some channel as I was flipping and I immediately sat down and watched them again.

One of our family faves is Commando–which is also funny. True Lies, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon.

Yeah, the Matrix sequels–what the heck? I didn’t even know what was going on.

  9. Sabrina Jeffries on 05 Dec 2009 at 8:26 am #

Gillian, I LOVED the Saint. I already liked the series, but the movie was fantastic. Val Kilmer … ooh, la, la!

Angela, Highlander, definitely!!! How could I forget it? I’m a huge fan of both the movies AND the series. “There can be only one!”

Freedom, haven’t heard of Basic. What was it about?

Claudia, never saw the Predator franchise, but may have to check it out. I watched Underworld because of you and thoroughly enjoyed it, despite my lack of interest in vampires. Did you see 300? What did you think? And yes, I’ve been eyeing Avatar. It looks really good. When you see it, tell me if you like it!

Oh, another one of the cheesier ones that I really liked was Species. I think Michael Madsen is very under-rated. He was really hot in that movie.

Maybe I should have a category called Creature Features, since there are so many on my list! Although actually that’s not my favorite. I liked King Kong, for example, but I probably wouldn’t watch it twice. That’s my criteria for one I really loved–something I’d watch over and over.

  10. Sabrina Jeffries on 05 Dec 2009 at 8:28 am #

Lori, I gave up after the second sequel. Claudia warned me, but did I listen? Noooo. And she was right–the second one sucked and I couldn’t bring myself to watch the third one. I read the summary on Wikipedia and went “Phew! Too much philosophy for me.”

  11. Claudia Dain on 05 Dec 2009 at 8:40 am #

Sabrina, definitely see Predator, the first. The second one, in LA, isn’t much. I did see 300 and loved it. Very graphic novel, so you have to get used to the visuals, but a really fun action movie. Lots of gore. In slo-mo. :)

I also just saw Zombieland. LOL funny! And yet, plenty of action. You would love it. Put it under Creature Feature.

  12. elsiehogarth on 05 Dec 2009 at 9:45 am #

Sabrina, I love action films. During the holidays, I watch the usual holiday movies and in between I will watch an Action movie. Last night, I watch Christmas with the Kranks and after I watched G.I. Joe.

Lately, my taste have gone sort of into the 60’s. I have been watching James Bond movies-just the Sean Connery ones. To me, his the real Bond, the only Bond. I have the In Like Flint movies with James Coburn and the Austin Power movies. I guess I’m into cheesy spy movies.

My Action crush is Jason Stratham. I own ever movie he has made even the ones that he’s just in cameos with no credits. His best ones are: Snatch, Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels (both Guy Ritchie Movies), Transporter 1-2-3, Chaos, Crank 1-2, Death Race, In The Name of the King, the Italian Job and the Bank Job.

  13. Michelle B on 05 Dec 2009 at 10:00 am #

While I love action movies, it’s not specifically for the action that I watch. The story has to be good, doesn’t have to have romance, but the relationships have to at least be interesting between the characters.

DH and DS love action movies so if I want to go to the movies or watch one with them I choose action. They can drive me crazy when they will watch with perfect attention the action parts, but lose interest in the quieter moments, where I am getting into the story. Boys will be boys.

  14. Karen Hawkins on 05 Dec 2009 at 10:04 am #

I love action films. A lot of my favorites are high drama — SNATCH; MAN ON FIRE; LOCK, STOCK, AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS; THE ITALIAN JOB; BATMAN BEGINS; all of the XMEN; WOLVERINE; and most cop dramas, too. I love to write action scenes, too, though it’s challenging!

Hey, anyone else looking forward to Guy Ritchie’s SHERLOCK HOLMES featuring Jude Law and Robert Downey Junior? I am DYING to see that one!

Oh, and AVATAR, too. That looks spectacular.

  15. Kathy on 05 Dec 2009 at 10:05 am #

big action fan here. own all the Die Hards. Just love Bruce Willis!
Never got in to the Matrix movies.
I like action adventure, like Indiana Jones, Sahara, Tomb raiders, that kind of thing. I often joke that I have the movie taste of a 15 yr old boy.
In fact when one of my nephews was 15, we’d do the theatre together and scream the loudest!
Sometimes, I can’t suspend my disbelief. Adored The Day After Tomorrow and will watch it every time it comes on tv. But 2012. not so much. there was just too many ‘oh my god that would never happen’ moments for me.
Sci fi action movies are also a fav. Fifth Element- more Bruce!
    Alien quadrilogy.
    Alien vs Predator
    Gozilla- the Matthew Broderick version.
I could go on and on….

  16. B on 05 Dec 2009 at 10:06 am #

I’m not an action movies person. There’s only one action movie I LOVE, which is Mr&Mrs. Smith. It’s just cute! I watch them sometimes, but I don’t usually love them. But, then, I’m probably the pickiest person in the world, and people say ‘I don’t like anything’. Ehh.

  17. B on 05 Dec 2009 at 10:08 am #

Karen H, I AM sooooooo looking forward to Sherlock Holmes. I saw the trailer and I was Ahhhhhwing all the time. I’m not a Robert Downey Jr. fan, but Good Lord, he is HOT, HOT, HOT in that movie. I mean, REALLY. Besides, I read the whole SH collection of books when I was 11 or 12. So, yeah.

I wanna see Avatar, too. But it’s Final Destination 4 3D I’m the most excited to watch :D

  18. Pesky on 05 Dec 2009 at 10:20 am #

I love action films! The summer movie series at the drive in on buck a car night always included the Disney Festival and the week of Bond…James Bond.

I loved the old TV adventures too, The Avengers, The New Avengers, The Saint….

If the movie had a hot guy with a fit bod and a killer accent, it was bonus!!!! Someday I’m going to go to Scotland and find myself a guy. I don’t care what he looks like…as long as he talks to me with THAT accent.

*sigh* Some of my most romantic dates were accompanied by the sound of things blowing up, metal tearing and the uber cool music that comes with a good action flick. Nothing like burying my face in a manly bicep when the hero faces certain danger.

I’m looking forward to Sherlock Holmes, Ironman 2 and Twlight Eclipse (which I’m told is more action oriented).

  19. Pesky on 05 Dec 2009 at 10:21 am #

Oh! And I’m going to watch the new Human Target series on Fox too!

  20. Janae on 05 Dec 2009 at 10:22 am #

I love action films that have a good story. No Steven Seagal or Jean-Claude for me. I love Bond, Highlander (both tv and series. My dh bought me the director’s cut of Highlander back in the early 90s for Christmas on vhs. Then, he lost it before he gave it to me. We just found it last month.), Indiana Jones, Die Hard, the new Batman movies, X-Men, Spiderman, etc.

Karen, I CANNOT wait to see Sherlock Holmes! I wish I could see it on opening day, but it doesn’t seem quite right leaving the kids with a sitter on Christmas day.

Avatar looks really good, too. It’s James Cameron’s first fictional movie he’s directed since Titanic.

  21. Freedom Writer on 05 Dec 2009 at 10:59 am #

Sabrina – In the movie Basic John Travolta plays a DEA agent, former Army, to look into the disappearance of an Army drill instructor and his squad of trainees who were out on a training mission in Panama. The two survivors of the mission each tell their story of events, and they don’t match up. Besides JT it also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Timothy Daly, Taye Diggs and Cristian De La Fuente.

  22. Kathleen on 05 Dec 2009 at 11:49 am #

My favourite movies are romantic comedies like – Love Actually or Nottinghill, which I just watched last night.. I also love a good romance/drama. I just love most anything romantic.
But I do like action/dramas such as Air Force One or Executive Decsion, and liked Speed 1 & 2.. I love a action drama that has a good story.
I am not much into SciFi movies..

  23. B on 05 Dec 2009 at 12:06 pm #

Pesky, Eclipse is my favorite Twilight book because it’s less teen romance drama and more vampire/werewolf fighting. That’s what I’m hoping the book will be like, too!!! :)

  24. Madeline Hunter on 05 Dec 2009 at 12:12 pm #

I am okay with them if the premise is not too fantastic (unless it is sci fi to begin with). I don’t seek them out, tho, and I don’t pick them if I’m doing the picking. I actually do not like romances in action movies because they often seem tacked on. And too often they have the characters doing stupid things in order to keep the man and woman together. And, historically (although maybe not so much now) they often had the woman do something really stupid in order to set up a crisis. (“Stay here. Don’t move while I sneak up on the bad guy and take him down.” Camera pans to hero sneaking up to bad guy. Camera pans to stupid woman deciding to move anyway. Camera snaps to bad guy hearing her, seeing bad guy, catching bad guy and her, etc etc.)

  25. Margaret on 05 Dec 2009 at 1:02 pm #

I guess I’m related to your DH, Sabrina. I don’t actually hate them. I’d just rather watch something else. Maybe age has changed me. Back in the day I loved them. Steve McQueen in “Bullitt” with that lose-your-stomach car ride thru San Francisco. The Dirty Harry movies. It seemed to me that movies lost the plots when they discovered special effects. Or the special effects we have now. The old police shoot ‘em ups. You knew the good guys from the bad. Not so sure now.

I’m a Disney fan from the cradle. I don’t need no steenkin’ kid along to watch. Altho they are nice to have with me. I like some documentaries. Not the ones where they are predicting the end of the world at any moment. Things I have no control over. Like the Aztec calendar thing. What the heck am I supposed to do with that sort of information other than become paranoid?

Oh well. Just consider this my cranky day. A Christmas gift I ordered has been back ordered. I am ticked that I didn’t order it a month ago.

  26. Deb Maher on 05 Dec 2009 at 1:12 pm #

What a good post to find on a snowy day, Sabrina. Action movies are my favorites for pure escapism. Nearly all the movies you mentioned are sensational; seen many multiple times. True Lies, Die Hard (1 & 2), Terminator (1 & 2), X-Men, Indiana Jones, and on. Don’t forget The Fugitive (Harrison Ford). And, for me anyway, all of the The Bourne movies are tops for mind-numbing, non-stop action.

We went to see 2012 recently cause we both felt the need for escape. It provided that. Great special effects. And, although I don’t believe it’ll have the longevity of those listed above, we both slept really well that night. Strange dreams though. Avatar looks sensational, and our whole family is looking forward to it.

I’ll have to drop in more often. You all have some tremendous posts.

  27. Sabrina Jeffries on 05 Dec 2009 at 1:24 pm #

Elsie, I don’t think I’ve seen any Jason Stratham films. I’ll have to netflix one.

Freedom, I’m not that keen on the military action films, but I may check it out. I do love Samuel Jackson.

Michelle, I agree that the story has to be decent. I don’t want to watch explosions just for the sake of explosions, by any means.

Oops, said Batman Forever, but I meant Batman Begins.

KarenH, that’s two for The Italian Job. I’ll have to check that one out. I’ve also been wanting to see Iron Man, which I still haven’t seen.

Kathy, Fifth Element is another big fave for me! Glad you reminded me.

B, I’ve been wanting to see Mr. & Mrs. Smith, but haven’t yet.

  28. Madeline Hunter on 05 Dec 2009 at 1:25 pm #

okay, my fingers had not woken up. That should have been. . .sees good guy, captures good guy and her, etc.

  29. Alicia on 05 Dec 2009 at 1:30 pm #

The only movies I really don’t enjoy are those dumber than dumb comedies and HORROR. I don’t care much for the blood and guts.

I love most movies! They are a “reality relief” for me! I can totally lose myself in a movie! I become engrossed! There have only been a small handful of movies that I have turned off because they were terrible. I’m not a real tough critic though.

Karen Hawkins! I want to see Sherlock Holmes and Avatar too!!!

  30. Sabrina Jeffries on 05 Dec 2009 at 1:33 pm #

B, I’m a fan of Robert Downey, Jr., too!

Pesky, I used to love the Avengers. But the movie was pretty lame, I thought.

Janae, I loved the Indiana Jones movies. I saw them all.

Madeline, I do agree that it’s annoying when they put stupid women in the movies. That’s why I like the ones I do–the woman are usually pretty savvy and some, these days, are even kick-butt!

Aww, Margaret, sorry that one of your prezzies has been back-ordered. One of mine has been, too, but it’s supposed to arrive before Christmas.

Deb, I keep hearing about the Bourne movies. I’ve got to watch them one of these days!

  31. Sabrina Jeffries on 05 Dec 2009 at 1:34 pm #

Alicia, I too hate dumber than dumb comedies. I’d rather watch a bad action film than a bad comedy, frankly.

  32. Madeline Hunter on 05 Dec 2009 at 2:30 pm #

The mention of the Bourne movies means I have to revise my post. I do like them, and have even watched more than once, which is very rare for me and a movie.

I also really like The Hunt for the Red October. Really well done and for some reason I can watch that over again too. I’ll probably think of others as I read the posts.

Oh, there was one that begins with an R, set in France. Ronan? Heist movie with a twist. Stars Robert Dinero.

By the way, I read once that in the early Bond movies one way they kept up the pace was they never let the camera rest on one view for longer than 15 seconds. Just a tidbit that bounced into my head.

  33. Madeline Hunter on 05 Dec 2009 at 2:33 pm #

Make that Robert de Niro. Shheeesh. Brain is mush today.

  34. Claudia Dain on 05 Dec 2009 at 2:59 pm #

Margaret, don’t worry about 2012; if you use the actual Aztec calendar, 2012 has already passed us by. It’s not like the Aztecs were using a Gregorian calendar!

  35. Claudia Dain on 05 Dec 2009 at 3:00 pm #

Sabrina, you haven’t seen Mr & Mrs. Smith!? You’re going to love it! Lots of action and lots of romance.

  36. Claudia Dain on 05 Dec 2009 at 3:02 pm #

Wait…what!? You haven’t seen the Bourne movies either?!! Sabrina, seriously, go see a movie. You deserve that tiny little 90 minute treat.

  37. Sabrina Jeffries on 05 Dec 2009 at 3:18 pm #

Claudia, don’t tell me that when I’m behind on my book! I did see two movies over the holidays. Does that count? Of course, one of them was for the kiddies (A Christmas Carol), but I liked it.

Oh, and good point about the Aztec calendar–of COURSE they didn’t use a Gregorian calendar. Duh!

  38. Lisa G on 05 Dec 2009 at 5:13 pm #

I like action movies but the have to be good. I love Daniel Craig as James Bond. The Fast and The Furious movies, Indiana Jones movies, Point Break with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. The Rock was a good one with Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage. Sean Connery is one of the great when it comes to action heros.

  39. Tina on 05 Dec 2009 at 8:57 pm #

    I’m kinda fussy.
Love the Mummy 1 & 2, no urge to see the Scorpion King.
Have all of Indiana Jones even tho not impressed with the second.
Have all 3 of the Librarian, the first is my fav.
Prefer Batman with Michael Keaton. Saw Batman Begins, seriously not impressed.
Never really wanted to see James Bond.
Like Highlander 1 and the series to end of season 2.
Like the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Prefer the Legend of Zorro over the first one.
    Did not like Entrapment.
Really like The Cutting Edge (not so much the sequels).
    Cutthroat Island really like.
Love Speed even if I don’t really like Keanu.
    Really love National Treasure.

  40. Sabrina Jeffries on 05 Dec 2009 at 8:59 pm #

Wow, Tina, you ARE fussy! I liked the first Zorro with Antonio Banderas, the second one not so much. I too was not impressed with the 2nd Indiana Jones movie, but I watched it. I liked the Mummy okay. Count me as one of the few people who just couldn’t get excited about it.

I’ll have to check out National Treasure!

  41. Tina on 05 Dec 2009 at 9:01 pm #

Love Miss Congeniality (not the sequel) and The Proposal (inspite of Ryan Reynolds).
Have all 4 X-Men movies & love Kate & Leopold and Australia.
Really like The Devil Wears Prada and 27 Dresses

  42. Tina on 05 Dec 2009 at 9:02 pm #

Almost forgot, love both Tomb Raider movies and Mr & Mrs Smith (inspite of Brad Pitt).

  43. evlqn on 05 Dec 2009 at 9:38 pm #

I love action movies! The first couple of Highlander movies, not the one where they had the immortals coming from another planet pulleze! That ranked as a dumb and dumber movie if ever there was one. Highlander series was a must see for me.
Speed, Point Break, Road House, All LOTR’s, Spiderman, Batman, Ironman, Anyone sensing a theme here??
I absolutely LOVED Face-Off! The way Cage and Travolta nailed one another’s characters was pure genius! Even if I had not been a fan of theirs before I would have been after.
I hate horror movies, no no no, I do not do Chuckie movies!! Or anything like them, those are blankie movies.
I also hate gross humor movies, most of Jim Carrey’s, Will Farrell.
Bimbo movies, don’t bother looking above her chest, there is nothing but hair and eyelashes there.

  44. Pesky on 05 Dec 2009 at 10:17 pm #

The movie was horrid Sabrina, you are so correct! Emma Peel used to rule…to be replaced by Uma Thurman…*shuddah*

  45. evlqn on 05 Dec 2009 at 11:05 pm #

Lori, you love Commando too?? Arnold was great in that! What I really loved about it was he adored his daughter above all else. True Lies, yes! All the Die Hards and Lethal Weapons although I don’t know if I would enjoy them so much since Mel has lost his natural mind, I guess I’ll see the next time they come on. Danny Glover is still a favorite.

  46. Patricia Barraclough on 05 Dec 2009 at 11:43 pm #

Loved True Lies. It is an action film, but funny and romantic, too. Kindergarten Cop falls into the same category.
I like movies that have good suspense and action, but don’t need the car chases and explosions. You can pretty much pick anything Harrison Ford has done. Air Force One, His Tom Clancy book based movies, Indiana Jones, Star Wars. Men In Black I & II and the three Jurassic Parks, The Terminator movies. Luckily my husband likes most of what I like. He will, however, sit and watch the mindless action films.

  47. Karen Hawkins on 06 Dec 2009 at 2:00 am #

Madeline, I love The Hunt for Red October, too. I think it’s because they actually developed the characters — and established such excellent motivation — that it was easy to get caught up in the story.

Great topic today, Sabrina! I’ve got an itch to see all of my favorite action movies again.

I love Musicals and old movies…hate the sequels. Yours mine and Ours with Henry Fonda and Lucielle Ball. I love the old Elvis movies, Girls Girls Girls, Viva Las Vegas, Kissin Cousins. 80’s ones like Xanado, Sargent Peppers Lonly Hearts Club band, Grease One and Two. Then there are the Disney Movies! My mom took me to see all of them when they came out except Snow White. She was in the hospital and my dad took me. I am an only child and my mom took me to movies a lot growing up. So I grew up watching the old movies with Rock Hudson and Doris Day, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby in the road pictures. Granted I am only 54, but We never left before all the credits finished. Like Mama Mia, if you left before the end you missed the concert. In the theater at the Mall in Durham no one left we all stood there and sang along with the cast to Waterloo.
