Reality Show Dreams

kristi-yamaguchi-03I only watch one reality show. I know: media aberration. I can’t help it. I just can’t stand watching people misbehave or put themselves at risk or have their dreams crushed before my very eyes. I’m not a ’slow down on the highway and look at the car wreck’ person. I speed up and avert my eyes when I see a wreck.

All disclaimers out of the way, the one reality show I watch and watch obsessively is Dancing With The Stars. I love Tom Bergeron (the host). I love to dance. I love watching people dance. I do not love watching people dance badly, which makes them getting voted off the show a nice relief. They don’t actually get voted off (as in off the island), it’s just that they don’t get enough votes to stay on. That seems nicer somehow.

In my reality show dreams, I’d be on Dancing With The Stars and I’d get Mark Ballas as my partner. I’m short. He gets the short ones. He doesn’t yell. I can’t stand being yelled at. He’s a patient, encouraging teacher. I like that. He does great choreography. That’s important. Sometimes The Star does the dance really well, but the choreography was boring or pointless or off the mark and the judges score low for that. Like, hey, that wasn’t The Star’s fault! It’s important to get a dancer who can do great choreography. Without yelling.

dancing11Big D wants Cheryl Burke as his partner. She is the best dancer on the show, in our shared opinion, and makes everyone she dances with look amazing. She does get a little snippy with her Stars during rehearsal time, but Big D can take snippy and roll with it. I assume that’s obvious.

I would do best at the Latin dances. I would shake my butt and roll my hips and look with barely contained passion at Mark, selling the Paso Doble, the Argentine Tango, the Rumba, the Cha Cha, the Mombo with all my heart. And Big D would shout, “Sell it, Claudia!” Because he’d be dancing with Cheryl, hips and eyes doing that Latin thing, and I’d want him to convince the world that he’s dying to get Cheryl horizontal in the next five seconds. Because that’s the dance. And when you do the dance, you’ve got to do the dance.

Go Big or Go Home.

Ole!

Which reality show would you like to do? Which reality shows do you watch? Any reality shows that grabbed you in the beginning and lost you? Have you ever tried out for a reality show? Ever been on one?

I would love to do the Amazing Race but anything with heights I might have a problem with. But that is one of my top shows to watch. I do watch Survivor and Dancing with the Stars. I used to be a big watcher of Big Brother but anymore that show just gets on my nerves.

I wouldn’t mind being on Dancing with the stars. I think I would need a very patient teacher. LOL I love Mak but I don’t think he would be very patient with me. LOL

  2. LoriHandeland on 06 Nov 2009 at 6:46 am #

I’m afraid I don’t watch any reality shows. None. They drive me nuts.

Way back in the second season I think, I tried to watch American Idol, but lost interest.

But if I could be on a show, it would be that one. I’ve always wanted to be able to sing, and I just can’t. I’m horrible.

I adore watching ballroom dancing competitions and I some nights watch Dancing With the Stars. I get so frustrated for the celebs though that can’t get it right. I have no
co-ordination myself when it comes to ballroom so I feel for them but I’m plenty critical as well.
I would crumble into a big heap of sobbing mess if someone yelled at me, so nope I would not be on that one.
But Survivor!!! I wanna go! not for the grossness of eating and being eaten by bugs, but just to prove I know how to make a hut way better than those contestants. Wouldn’t you research how to make a waterproof hut as quickly and easily as possible if you knew your were going? .
google people! or learn how to strip coconut husks to get to the meat.
I met someone who tried out for So You Think You can dance Canada. but he did it just for fun, knowing he wouldn’t get picked.
And I knew one of the designers a long time ago from Project Runway Canada 2. I watched after an urging from my sister who is a reality show junkie. I recognized him by his weird laugh. What is sad is that he was known on the show as the “old guy” and he’s 4 yrs younger than me. sigh

  4. Kathy on 06 Nov 2009 at 7:05 am #

oh, and Maks?? um hate him. he’s got this I’m too sexy slime vibe I don’t like

  5. Trini on 06 Nov 2009 at 7:40 am #

As I can see, in Spain and USA there are similar reality shows (Big Brother, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol and more…) but I never see any reality shows, I don’t like it. But if I have to choose, I prefer dancig or singing shows better than Big Brother… (I can’t understand why this people wants to be famous….) and in Spain are very populars. I prefer movies, a couple o sitcoms and shows of kitchen or decoration… But, usually, I spend my free time reading….

I don’t like to be in a reality show… never… in addition, the professionals say that the camera gets fat and it was just what I needed….. to seem fatter…. I already have some kilos exceed (oh no, no, no)

Lori, reality shows drive me nuts too… you are not alone

  6. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 7:50 am #

JudyF, I’ve heard nothing but great things about The Amazing Race; people say it’s the best reality show out there. It just seems so stressful! All that…racing around. ;) I’m exhausted just thinking about it.

  7. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 7:51 am #

Lori, if you can’t sing, the last show you want to be on is American Idol! They’d murder you. You’d be the laughingstock of youtube. Of course, you would be famous, so it might be worth it.

  8. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 7:53 am #

Kathy, I’ve watched a few episodes of Project Runway and I really feel for those designers. They have to do so much, so fast. I love seeing what they come up with though, even though I sometimes wonder who on earth would wear *that*.

  9. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 7:54 am #

Trini, I will never understand the attraction of Big Brother either. It’s a human train wreck. Those people are nuts!

  10. SuzyQ on 06 Nov 2009 at 7:55 am #

The first reality show I watched was Survivor but I haven’t watched it in several seasons. I just couldn’t stand watching all the backstabbing going on. I’m down to 3 shows now – Idol, Hell’s Kitchen, and DWTS. If I was on Dancin I would love to have Maks as a partner (sorry Kathy), because I love the way he moves. Yeah, he yells but I have a pretty tough skin and would probably give it right back. The closest I’ve come to dancing with Maks is on the Wii game.

  11. Sabrina Jeffries on 06 Nov 2009 at 8:01 am #

I used to watch Kitchen Nightmares and the other Chef Ramsey shows, but I lost interest. I think that’s the closest I’ve come to a reality show. I don’t even watch cooking or decorating shows. I like fiction. Always have. Real people are just too …. real.

  12. Julia London on 06 Nov 2009 at 8:10 am #

I watch a lot of reality TV. It’s the cop shows and CSI types I can’t do. I love Amazing Race. Jack London has this fantasy that we will be on it one day, but I couldn’t bare the embarrassment when he begins to cuss, which he would at some point unless we were in first place all the time, LOL. And honestly, some of the stuff they do is just too much for me — too much on the ick factor, I mean.

I love American Idol. I don’t watch DWTS much because it is on a time when there is too much going on, it goes on too long, and I guess I’m just not that into dance.

    I like Project Runway.

  13. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 8:27 am #

SuzyQ, I think I watched half of the first season of Survivor; was that the one where the guy kept walking around naked? Richard? What a mind game that was!

  14. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 8:28 am #

Julia, I’ve noticed this: people either gravitate toward reality shows or pure fiction shows. I’m a fiction person. You’re a reality person. I’ll try not to judge you.

    ;)

  15. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 8:29 am #

Sabrina, I was really into Gordon Ramsey as well, but lost interest. I think it was because every time I tried to watch it, it was a rerun. I finally just gave up and moved on. There’s a lesson there.

  16. Michelle B on 06 Nov 2009 at 8:49 am #

Ole indeed! The only reality show I watch is DWTS. I love the dances, the competition, music, and costumes. I wish I could dance like that. Some day I might just talk DH into ballroom dancing lessons with me.

If I got to choose a partner on the show it would be a tough choice. I like Mark Ballas, and his Dad Corky when he was on. He’s a little too fast for his partners some times though. I like Derek and his choreography, however there is something about Dmitry. Yep, I would go for Dmitry. I wouldn’t do well with the yelling.

What did you think of the Ballas-Hough band? I had heard them on u-tube and loved their music. Not sure about the song they chose for the show.

    I miss Julianne.

  17. Deb Marlowe on 06 Nov 2009 at 8:50 am #

Claudia, I have to say I would pay big money to see you shaking your butt on DWTS! And I think Big D could handle Cheryl without thinking twice! LOL!

The reality stars I admire the most are the ones on the creative shows, like Top Chef and Project Runway. I wish I could sew, but I’m more of a glue girl. Some of them really are creative. The ones I enjoy most are when they have to design for real people instead of stick models. It always throws them for a loop!

  18. Michelle B on 06 Nov 2009 at 8:54 am #

I used to watch America’s next Top Model with DD#2. The drama queens were a turn off as well as Tyra Banks. Tyra would be this nurturing person one minute and a meany the next. Her personality changes were like watching Cybil.

  19. elsiehogarth on 06 Nov 2009 at 9:01 am #

My favorite Reality Show is Project Runway. I don’t know how they do it but they are all talented and creative whenever they are presented with a challenge. I would love some of that creatvity. Plus I would need to know how to sew.

I am also glad that Tabitha’s Take Over Salon is back. I just love her. It just amazes me how dirty some of these places are and it’s full of customers but nobody notices. Her Salon is in Ridgewood, NJ and I hope to someday go there because I can just imagine how much she charges.

Two weeks ago, I started watching a show on Discovery called Ghost Lab. It’s the Klinge brothers that are ghost hunters. They go to haunted mansions, restaurants, tattoo parlors etc. I just love it.

  20. SheridanLA on 06 Nov 2009 at 9:11 am #

The only TV I watch is when my boss has it blaring at work…but there are two shows he records on the DVR that we watch at lunch when we are not trying to sneak around and turn down the volume of MSNBC. COPS and Wipeout.

COPS is a fascinating train wreck and a break from MSNBC (you think I am exaggerating here.)

Wipeout.. I love.. it makes me laugh and I would LOVE to go on the course. One of our assistants tried out for it, but did not make it…but we have friends of friends on there occasionally.

    BIG BALLS! :D

  21. Karen Rose on 06 Nov 2009 at 9:21 am #

Is Ace of Cakes a reality show? I watch Duff and Geoff and Mary Alice and the gang. Love that show!

We watched Next Food Network star last summer and cheered when the obnoxious Debbie got voted off the show. I don’t think I’d like to be on a reality show. Like Sabrina, I like my fiction. Too much reality is a bad thing.

  22. B on 06 Nov 2009 at 9:26 am #

The Amazing Race!!! I love it. It’s my favorite reality ever. I’d love to do that, and I’d be quite good up until the point where we’d have to eat something disgusting. I’ll jump from any height, deal with any wild animal and all of that. But when I think some food is gross, I just can’t swallow it. :(
TAR is the only one I still watch. American Idol has really gone downhill, though I’ll probably check it out now that Ellen will be in it.

  23. Julia London on 06 Nov 2009 at 9:27 am #

Sheridan, Wipeout is pure family entertainment. You just can’t get enough of watching those silly goons try and hop across those giant balls. Hilarious!

Claudia, I will try not to judge you, either ;-) . Don’t you think the DWTS gets a little over the top? Just a little?

  24. Kathy on 06 Nov 2009 at 9:38 am #

I enjoy a pretty healthy mix of both reality and fictional shows.
I was humming along to a new song on the radio just now. the song is by Hedley, a Canadian band who’s lead singer came from Canadian Idol. in the video/song they mock reality tv. have a look – it’sunny and catchy too

  25. ladydawgfan on 06 Nov 2009 at 9:39 am #

I love some reality shows and detest some others! The ones that I love: Survivor, Amazing Race, So You Think You Can Dance, American Idol, America’s Got Talent, Chopped. Do Ghost Hunters, Cops, and Bait Car qualify as reality shows, ’cause I love those shows too!!

The ones I hate: Hells Kitchen (WAY too many F-bombs!), Big Brother (cameras in the commode? C’mon!).

  26. Madeline Hunter on 06 Nov 2009 at 9:40 am #

I am pretty much limited to Project Runway as a show that I will try and make it a point to watch. It can be really uneven, tho. I am not hugely impressed by any of this season’s participants. There is something unjelled about most of them this season, and I rarely see the finished designs and think OMG, who ever thought that mess in the design room would turn out to be this? I love it when the finished designs just stun me.

  27. Madeline Hunter on 06 Nov 2009 at 9:44 am #

Elsie, I agree that Tabitha’s show is compelling. You wonder how any of these places lasted at all. Although it is one more show that has this pattern of tough British woman coming to shape up the slob Americans, lol. Between her and the nannies and dog trainers and “your house is not selling because it sucks” designer make-overs, there seems to be a big market here for shows where Brits give us our marching orders.

  28. Kathy on 06 Nov 2009 at 9:48 am #

    Survivor
    Amazing Race sometimes
    The Duggars
I grew up watching a lot of documentaries that sort of morphed into reality tv.
there was a show that ran for a while here called Zoo Diaries. a simple look at the day to day running of the Toronto Zoo.
    loved that one.
I don’t have cable right now so the three Cdn “air” channel viewing is limited.

  29. Rachel Gibson on 06 Nov 2009 at 9:52 am #

I’m too embarrassed to admit how many reality shows I watch. But if I could be on one, I’d loved to be on Project Runway. I’d love to design clothes.

    REALITY TV JUNKIE ALERT!!!

The girls & I watch the cooking shows… we’re Top Chef fanatics. Youngest daughter takes cooking classes & so far wants to go to culinary school.
We watch “Man vs Food” on travel channel? the amount of food in the eating challenges/contests is INSANE!! We like “Cake Boss” too – very talented people. New show? Avec Eric on PBS – *love* Eric Ripert – that French accent – yum!

Love Bravo! My husband calls it “chick/gay TV” – I know, NOT politically correct AT ALL!! I like Flipping Out & used to watch the “housewives” shows, but they are just too – UGH! now for me.

I used to watch Amazing Race – I catch it about every 2-3 weeks now. The Harlem Globetrotter team cracks me up! Project Runway lost me when they moved to Lifetime.

Does Austin City Limits count? Live music in front of a small audience – love it! Also watch Inside the Actors Studio sporadically. Both those depends on the guest.

Is it me, or is the “new” Jay Leno show the same as the old one, except earlier? I’m thinking changing demograhic as his “core” audience goes to bed before the late night news comes on, LOL.

  31. Rachel Gibson on 06 Nov 2009 at 9:59 am #

Did anyone else watch Kim “sing’ Tardy For The Party last night? It was shi—tastic.

  32. nancyg on 06 Nov 2009 at 10:01 am #

Rachel – saw the commercial for it. I’ll have to check it out online – saw her “attempt” to sing last season, so can’t wait to see…

  33. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 10:20 am #

MichelleB, I thought Ballas/Hough did a great job! Very Michael Jackson-ish. Made me sad though because I’m afraid they’re going to follow in Julianne Hough’s footsteps and leave the show. She was an amazing dancer. I miss her as well. I’d love to dance with Derek–amazing choreographer and sweet teacher, but I know I’m too short for him. Sigh.

  34. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 10:23 am #

DebMarlowe, no kidding! The Project Runway people have a design for real people challenge?! I would LOVE to see that. Yeah, what do you do when the outfit has to fit someone 5′4″ and 165 pounds? Not so ‘fashion-forward’ now, is it?! LOL

Would I ever love to be on DWTS! They wouldn’t even have to pay me…oh, well, okay. Pay me. I’d probably get booted off after one dance and be broken emotionally for life, afraid even to wave for a cab without being judged graceless and heavy on my feet.

  35. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 10:25 am #

ElsieH, I just this week saw the adverts for the hair salon show. Where have I been? It looks fantastic.

  36. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 10:27 am #

Sheridan, I am SO impressed that you know someone who tried out for a reality show. I think that takes tremendous courage, even if they didn’t make it.

  37. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 10:28 am #

Julia, DWTS over the top?! What top are we talking here? Did you *see* Gilles dancing with Cheryl last season? Did you SEE that?? OMG.

  38. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 10:29 am #

Ladydawg, you are a reality show queen! You should try out for one!

  39. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 10:30 am #

Madeline, LOL, I hadn’t thought of that! Do you think it’s because we Yanks take instruction more easily from someone speaking the Queen’s English?

“You are a slob” sounds different, more refined, if said in the proper accent.

  40. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 10:32 am #

Rachel, I’d love to see you on Project Runway! I’m stunned by how great at sewing they all are. Are you a closet seamstress?

  41. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 10:33 am #

NancyG, I can’t watch the new Jay Leno. It’s lost it’s edge. And it annoys me that he gets a prime time slot every single night. Think of all the good fiction shows not airing because he’s hogging the air space!

  42. Rachel Gibson on 06 Nov 2009 at 10:37 am #

    Claudia,

Not a seamstress. Just know how to sew. There is a difference. I suck, but I love fashion.

  43. SuzyQ on 06 Nov 2009 at 11:06 am #

Oh, I totally forgot until I read elsiehogarth’s post but my hairdresser will be making an appearance in a new show called Jerseylicious to air this spring. It’s kind of like the Housewives but set in a salon. So I will be tuning into that show.

  44. Lisa G on 06 Nov 2009 at 11:17 am #

I used to watch Dancing with the Stars but it is getting old now. Project Runway was really good until their man judges don’t show up and they get Lindsay Lohan as a guest judge. We just started “Amazing Race”, it’s fun to watch the Globetrotters trying to folk dance. Top Chef is a favorite too. Mostly I like the new shows , Trama, Mercy, Three Rivers and my favorite, The Forgotten. I love the fact that they have the victim tell their story as they show progresses along.

  45. TrishD on 06 Nov 2009 at 11:17 am #

My first response is that I’m not a reality show watcher but someone mentioned Man vs. Food and I watch that one. Is it reality? If it’s a reality show then I guess I’m guilty because I do like MvF as well as many on the Discovery Channel line up… The Deadliest Catch, Myth Busters and Dirty Jobs. And I love the cop shows! The First 48? Crime 360? If there’s a marathon on, I’m watching.

I could never be on a reality show, nope, no way. No desire for my 15 minutes, I’ll give them to someone else.

  46. Pesky on 06 Nov 2009 at 11:29 am #

I’d love to do the Amazing Race, but the eating gross things I could do without. I’m not a huge fan of the reality show genre, I have a hard time watcing people make fools of themselves. I feel really bad when someone publicly fails. I do however enjoy The Soup, which points out the very parts that upset me. Maybe it’s because it’s one step removed. Could also be that I’m twisted.

I used to watch Girls Next Door, it was like waiting for the train to wreck. No! Don’t do that! Wait! Awww man she went and did it. Da Da Dummmmmmmmmmmmmm…it’s Barbie Benton! Quick hide the Children! I’m still not sure if it qualifies as “reality”, they’re about 90 percent plastic.

I think you should put your name up for DWTS Claudia, you can write in and tell them you are a Best Selling Romance Author. I’d watch it. :D

  47. nancyg on 06 Nov 2009 at 11:36 am #

ok – let’s get some Amazing Race groups together. Claudia – romance writer & fan?? shoo-in!! met on a blog? yup – I can see it now. TGB t-shirts, publishing house, etc. gotta love it!!

will eat just about anything except shellfish (allergy). Heights? nope, not gonna do it. well, maybe with a Xanax… oh, did I mention I’m slightly claustrophobic?

I saw the commercial for the Amazing Race where the girl freaks out on the water slide. I’m terrified of heights, but did that very slide at Atlantis in the Bahamas. It’s not bad, goes by so quickly it’s over before you know it. Disclaimer – HUGE wedgie when you’re done!! LOL. As my kids would say, “What a wuss-bag!”

  48. Madeline Hunter on 06 Nov 2009 at 11:38 am #

Claudia, I’m not sure it sounds more refined, but it does sound more definitive in that accent. Like you don’t dare argue!

  49. Alicia on 06 Nov 2009 at 11:53 am #

I really only LOVE one reality show and that is BIG BROTHER. Or is it considered a reality show? I don’t know for sure. I got sucked in several years ago. My husband and I got so excited over it this year….it was a good one! Except all of the whiners, that was a bummer. My husband follows ‘GHOSTHUNTERS’ (you know, the TAPS team)…..I’m usually reading when that is on. OH WAIT, I might have lied. I kinda sorta watch the Biggest Loser now and again. Not really regularly though. I am really more along the lines of a sitcom/drama type of person. (Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, Ugly Betty)

  50. Julia London on 06 Nov 2009 at 12:05 pm #

Rachel, I missed it!! I have to find it online. I waited all week for that gem and forgot it!

  51. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 12:11 pm #

Rachel, I’m sure you’d be a top seamstress by the end of your Project Runway adventure. Once you win, then you can hire a fleet of seamstresses to create your visions. That part sounds like a lot of fun!

  52. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 12:13 pm #

LisaG, I hate hearing you’re tired of DWTS! I’ve just recently found it–maybe four seasons ago. Is the day going to come when I’m sick of it? I hope not.

  53. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 12:14 pm #

TrishD, the only thing good about having 15 minutes of fame is that it really does last 15 minutes and then nobody will remember you again. Those “Where are they now?” shows? I’m always like, “who?”

  54. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 12:16 pm #

Pesky, can you imagine how many stars are trying to get on DWTS? I’d guess hundreds, if not more. The money is great. The longer you stay on, the more money you make. Add in that it’s the highest rated show on TV and you have a real magnet for stars hoping to up their exposure. Who wants to see a “mature” author dance? Besides Big D, I mean.

  55. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 12:17 pm #

NancyG, you’re going to have to be the go-to on organizing the Goddess Amazing Race Team. Traveling the globe, eating weird stuff…I have a hard time getting to my neighborhood grocery store!

  56. Pesky on 06 Nov 2009 at 12:42 pm #

:D Yeah there are probably tons of them. However, you would be unique in that you would be an author. If they’re bringing back 70’s has beens they should definitely look at you. No guts no glory Claudia. Go for it!

  57. Pesky on 06 Nov 2009 at 12:43 pm #

Meaning that you are a heck of a lot better than most of the people they are putting on the show.

  58. Louisa Cornell on 06 Nov 2009 at 12:44 pm #

I’m an Amazing Race girl all the way. I would have to go on a SERIOUS crash diet before I competed, but I the fact I speak 8 languages other than English makes me a good partner. And, I’ve eaten some of the most disgusting foreign foods ever to avoid insulting my hosts. (Monkey brains anyone? Alligator? Rattlesnake? Madagascar hissing cockroaches? Locusts?) I don’t mind heights, but I can’t swim. And years of living in Europe have made me pretty good at haggling.

Julia, Jack London and I would be good partners as I do tend to cuss when I get really frustrated. The only thing better than my cussing creativity in English is my cussing creativity in Russian !

I would love to see Ace of Cakes! My SIL talks about it all the time. I live so far out in the country I don’t get cable so I can’t watch it.

There was a show that I think they only had on one year – America’s Top Dog. I really enjoyed it because the winner was the dog and owner whose relationship best showed how wonderful the pet / owner bond can be.

DWTS is another favorite and my Mom always calls to rehash each episode. She gets really fired up about DWTS !

  59. Freshechelle on 06 Nov 2009 at 12:47 pm #

The Dish & the Soup are about all the reality TV I can stomach.

  60. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 1:09 pm #

Louisa, don’t worry about losing weight before appearing on The Amazing Race–from what I gather, being on that show will erase the weight for you! Double bonus! The 8 language talent, wow, you would have such an advantage! Go for it!

  61. Claudia Dain on 06 Nov 2009 at 1:11 pm #

Pesky, 70s has-beens? Really? Who? I clearly am not up on my celebrity trivia. I also never know any of the sports contestants since I don’t follow sports. It’s the models who amaze me since they normally can’t dance. Shocking. Can look pretty in a still shot, but can’t MOVE?

I’m with you. I watch 4 hours of TV right now because of adore DWTS—and Castle. Love Castle. But Dancing is my addiction, although it hurts to see some of the stars go even when they aren’t the best dancers.

My dh would look like Billy Rae if ever he tried Dancing, but me? Oh, the joy. *G*

Gwynlyn, you adore what I adore. Castle is wonderful! And DWTS. I hate it when a star is a good dancer and gets voted out in favor of a less than great star/dancer. That KILLS me. I really, really thought Gilles got robbed last season. He was such a natural and a pure pleasure to watch. I loved Ty last season, even though he couldn’t really dance. He was such a doll and worked so hard! I couldn’t believe he made it to the top five on pure guts and charm.

Yes, Claudia. I am totally with you on DWTS. I’ve watched it since day 1. I like how they change a couple of things each season to shake it up and keep it a bit fresh. Since I got my DVR awhile back, I use it to whip thru and cut out the clutter. I always cringe at what the judges have to say when you know the celeb has worked him/herself into the ground to do the number.

I enjoy deciding who should go each week. This week I batted 1000 and got both right. I liked both the guys but we are getting down to the nitty gritty now. I think everyone left is good and improving. My heart belong to Kelly Osbourne. Her lack of self-esteem is heartbreaking. But I was touched when she was being taken in the ambulance and Ozzie was sitting beside her in it. Suddenly, he reached over and wiped a tear away from her cheek. Tom says there is always an “Aww” moment in each show. This was that for me.

I love Dmitry, Derek & Mark. I don’t like Lacey. She annoys me for reasons I can’t explain. I think Cheryl is the bomb. And I would love to have Karina’s body. I’d love to wear those costumes. They are gorgeous w/o being obscene.

Love DWTS & have finally turned DD onto it.

Margaret, I think the order of eliminations has been excellent this season—translation: I agree with who’s been booted, when. LOL

I was so impressed by Kelly O in the first round. Wow, can she dance, but the love affair is over for me. I’m rooting for Donny O. He just puts it out there, 110% every single time, and he’s the oldest one! I’m so darn impressed by him. A pure professional who keeps working until he gets it. And then he “lives” the dance, makes me believe he’s feeling what the dance requires him to feel. I don’t get that from Kelly.

I know what you mean about Lacey. She’s so talented! Truly a remarkable dancer, but she just rubs me the wrong way half the time. I wanted to kill her when she partnered with Lance (who was a great dancer, so focused) and her choreography was always off. Don’t punish Lance!! But the judges do. They have all these “rules.” *g*

Claudia — I’m right there with you. . .I loved Lance and Joey and they were both so talented. . .sadly I haven’t watched it lately cause there haven’t been any “stars” I’ve cared for, but I do love the show and it’s my only reality show concession — except for “So you think you can Dance” when I’m really that bored.

Heather, give it another try. You won’t believe how talented Donny Osmond is. Mya is also a wonderful dancer. For my money, those are the two to beat. I hope they go head to head as the final two. Both so very talented and hard working!

The Amazing Race is the only reality show we watch. We love to travel. We like to compare what the contestants do with how we would have chosen and done. I think some have gotten a bit too cut throat and nasty. I wanted to do the family one with one of our daughters and our son. We each have a different strength and would have made a good team. Our son just laughed (snorted actually) and shook his head. Our daughter said she didn’t want the world to see how disfunctional we were. After watching the show, we aren’t all that bad compared to many of the participants.
I have watched Dancing With the Stars once or twice. I enjoyed it, but didn’t become addicted. We have a club meeting the night it comes on, and if we take too long, at least half the ladies demand we speed up so they can get home to watch it.
Maybe you should try out. Romance writer and her husband compete against each other. That would work.

    Well, if professional bull rider Ty Murray and his wife, the talented singer Jewel, can be on DWTS, I don’t see why RM and her DH can’t compete. No stress fractures allowed, however. Those are so overdone. {G}

Margaret, from your mouth…LOL We would LOVE to be on that show.

I only see the DWTS recap while waiting for Castle to start.

I have seen a few eps of Project Runway.

When the Thanksgiving company is here, I end up seeing quite a few shows since she is fairly addicted to HGTV.
