A few of my fav things part 2

0452513052104R_300x400[1]As some of you might know about me, I have a weakness for shoes. I love shoes because they fit no matter my weight and don’t get uncomfortably tight when I’ve had too many Oreos.

I have a few other weaknesses that cost less than a pair of shoes:

Judge Judy. I love a woman who can see through bull.

Starbuck’s Italian Roast in the morning. Especially when Mr. G is up first and makes it. Somehow it just tastes better if I didn’t have to put any effort into it.

Crossword puzzles. I love to relax at night with a big crossword puzzle. My favorite is the one in the back of the National Enquirer

Gossip. I admit it. I love gossip. My problem is, I don’t ever know anything so I’m not good at it.

Long walks in the crisp fall air when the leaves are turning. I just love the smell of fall.

Orange Tic Tacs. They only have one calorie and are yummy and delicious.

PB270022Baby kisses. No calories and are yummy and delicious. Especially if given by cutest baby in the world while wearing matching flannel pjs.

Any weakness you all want to share? Sinful? Innocent? Expensive? Free?

Suzie: “That Nathan Fillion is so HAWT!

Claudia: “YES! We must force everyone to watch Castle and see his greatness!”

Suzie: “I’m making an action figure of him this evening! It’ll sell like hotcakes on ebay!”

Claudia: “He’s the HAWTEST of the HAWT!”

Together: SQUEEEEE!

Let’s see what they’re excited about, shall we?

Here he is as Rick Castle on ABC’s CASTLE.

To Shop or Not To Shop?

ShoppingHordesYes, I realize for many of you this isn’t even a question.  For me, it is.  I shudder at the thought of malls and lines and hordes of people out for the best deal.  Frankly, they scare me to little bits and pieces.

I’m not a great shopper on the best of days.  (Ie, nobody but me in the whole mall.)  I enter a clothing store and get the deer-in-the-headlights look.  So much stuff.  I immediately overload on sheer choices.  Terrified of picking the wrong thing, I grab the first thing I see in black and flee, whimpering down the escalator, tucked in a fetal position.

I do pay for my purchase first, LOL.

I have never, never stood in line to enter a store with hordes of people.   It’s a terrifying thought!  All those people with single-minded intent, capable of sorting through all the choices at super speeds and willing to bash me on the head for the best deal…  It’s not a fair playing field.  I’d rather be the goalie and face an entire angry hockey team.  At least I’d have padding.

GoalieAnd a mask.

Once (ONCE, I TELL YOU), I went to the Moonlight Madness sale at one of the stores in Cincinnati when I lived there.  I went with a friend.  She was in her element.  I reached for one item from a rack (an infant dress for my daughter as I recall), only to have my hand slapped by another woman who grabbed the dress and left me standing with my mouth open in shock.  My friend left with bags of stuff.  I left with a sore hand.  (And my fingers twitching from the gesture I really wanted to make at the hand smacker, but didn’t dare.  She could have been armed.)

I have to say I do enjoy shopping at Nordstrom’s in Tampa.  There is a lovely saleswoman there who is the very best.  She gets my fear and patiently guides me to all the non-black items I’d never have seen on my own. (Like Claudia, but she’s taller.)

As for shopping for other people, I do it.  I generally shop via the internet, because I can thoughtfully consider each item without fear of head bashing.  I still freeze up from all the choices and usually pick stuff people don’t like, but I try.

So are you going to shop today?  Do you avoid the mall on the day after Thanksgiving like the plague? How much of your shopping do you do via Internet? Tell me your war stories, people!

Turduckelicken Good!

TurkeyDinner-main_FullOn the Today Show the other day they staged this big mock debate on what was more important to a traditional Thanksgiving meal – the turkey, or the sides.

Turkey Argument: Without the turkey, it’s just a meal. Any other parts of the meal can change, but it isn’t Thanksgiving without the turkey.

Sides Argument: It’s not the turkey everybody talks about afterward, but the dressing or the sweet potatoes or veggies or pie.  And if you had to choose, would you rather have seconds of turkey or one of the sides?pumpkin pie

So my question to you is, which is more important? The turkey, or the sides? And what’s your favorite side dish on Thanksgiving? The most unusual? (And can you gain weight just from looking at photos of pumpkin pie?)

Are You Heroine Material?

Heroines are supposed to have strengths and flaws and quirks to make them interesting, right? Well, recently a fellow writer in my local RWA chapter created a fun database of personality traits/quirks to use for future book characters. Her instructions to play her game were to “Simply come up with 25 things most people don’t know about you.” And the first rule was, your things don’t all have to be completely true. (You’re invited to read and post on her blog at www.daisy-daisydaisy.blogspot.com)

character traits

I’m not going to ask for quite so many, but I will ask you to name at least one thing that most people don’t know about you, true or not. I’ll start with a few of my own that are 100% true (probably).

= As a kid, I used to eat Campbell’s Vegetable soup for breakfast, since I didn’t care for sugary cereals.

= I actually proposed to my dh … in front of an instant banker machine at a1C-NicoleJordanWhiteGown shopping mall.

= I haven’t worn a dress in over six years, except at recent author photo shoot when the photographer made me do it – and even then my own mother didn’t recognize me.  (Yes, that’s really me there on the right.)

So what deep truths are you hiding about yourself that most people don’t know? Would your traits/quirks work for a heroine in a romance novel (or hero, for that matter?) Why or why not?
