Make Them Go Away
Oct 23rd 2009
Julia LondonJulia London & My Life As A Plebe
Every once in awhile, someone like me, who has a high tolerance for celebrity news, reaches a breaking point. I am really, seriously, sick of a few of the so-called “celebrities,” and it occurs to me that they are all from reality TV. Which just goes to show fame does not necessarily a star make.
First and foremost are Jon and Kate. Someone please do something about these people! You cannot avoid them even if you want to. They are on the cover of everything. Every light news show leads off with them. They show up in Tweets that aren’t even celebrity related. They are completely, totally, unavoidable. I feel sorry for all those little kids. Wouldn’t life be hard enough being one of 8 siblings without having your nutjob parents dragging their no good awful horrible divorce through the tabloids? I really wish they would go away and off the air. And do American a favor and get divorced already!

Second, the Kardashians. I don’t even know who they are! I don’t know why we care! Why do we care? Who ARE they?

Third, Jermaine Jackson. This guy has been trying to strike some deal since his brother died. For the record, Michael Jackson died two days before my sister, who died just as unexpectedly. I cannot imagine trying to plan some money-making venture; I can hardly get used to the idea she’s gone. I realize people grieve differently, but come on, Jermaine. Can you give it a rest for now?

Sheree from Housewives in Atlanta. I have to hand it to the Housewife people. They can find a wealthy, unlikable woman in all the cities where they film, and toss her in for a little fun. Sheree is not nearly as bad as Kelly in New York or the certifiably insane woman in New Jersey. But Sheree had a big party for herself and unveiled a huge picture of herself — twenty feet tall. Hilarious! But after you’ve seen that much of Sheree, you’ve seen enough. Time for Sheree to go terrorize some other town.
What face are you sick of seeing? What celebrity drives you nuts? Are you sick of Jon and Kate yet? Do you think they ought to take that show off the air?

Move to Brazil. I’ve heard of Jon and Kate online, but I’ve never even see their show. You’d be safe and sound here.
Celebrity that drives me nuts? Jennifer Aniston. I can’t stand her. Ugh.
I’m sick of hearing about Kanye West.
Judy F on 23 Oct 2009 at 3:54 am #
Jon and Kate are #1 with me of people I am tired of hearing about. They give these every day people a taste of the good life and then wonder why they can’t handle it. I feel bad for the kids.
I don’t get the fascination with Paris Hilton either.
Kim on 23 Oct 2009 at 5:04 am #
I know it’s trite, but please accept my sympathies on the loss of your sister.
I have a VERY low tolerance for “celebrities,” have never watched any of the “reality” television shows, or any of the popular programs at all, for that matter. Most of the time I don’t know who people are talking about. I cannot understand the fixation that the public has with them–or with any “star” for that matter. I don’t watch, don’t follow, don’t want to know…LOL.
Ann in IL on 23 Oct 2009 at 5:06 am #
Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes !!!! I am sooooo sick of Kate. She is the nasty to the core and a real “no talent “celebrity. What an ego. And the kids are going to be worse when they grow up. PLEASE, TLC, remove the show and don’t bother with any of the spin-off ideas.
Kardashians – pffth….buncha no talent bimbos.
As for Real Housewives………….they AIN’T. Why do they refer to themselves as housewives? They don’t do anything remotely housewifey. Should change the name of the show to The Real Rich B******s of ________
I certainly admire MJ’s monumental talent. God Bless him for that. Unfortunately, I think his family will try to live off his fame for generations.
My addidtion to the bunch……….Rachel Ray. Is there a time of day she is NOT on TV. ENOUGH ALREADY…. I can’t stand that .
And here is my question….why is it that as soon as someone achieves a certain level of celebrity they assume we want to see them all day, smell like them, wear their clothing lines and read the biography of their poor/abused/challenged/tragic life?????????
LoriHandeland on 23 Oct 2009 at 5:55 am #
Tired of seeing MJ. Let the poor man rest in peace.
Very sick of Jon and Kate and I’ve never even watched the show. They should definitely take it off the air. Who wants to watch a live and happening divorce? Yuck. Just what those kids need, a record of their parents behavior.
Kathy on 23 Oct 2009 at 6:10 am #
I was tired of and appalled Jon and Kate when he started stepping out and getting caught at the bars.
well before any divorce stuff was mentioned.
stopped me cold from watching the show any more. I used to watch and get really angry with Kate the way she never seemed to play with her children, got a nanny to do it so she could clean and was so dismissive to Jon.
As for Jermaine, he and the rest of the family have been trying to cash in on Michael’s death since it happened.
I’m excluding Janet since she seems to have melted away for some private mourning-as it should be when there is a loss like that.
I really don’t understand the new batch of celeb-utards. what exactly are they famous for? partying and getting DUI charges?
Julia London on 23 Oct 2009 at 6:29 am #
I have to add Lindsey Lohan and her family to the list. When I was flying back from vacation this week, Lindsey was the other celebrity on every cover, with headlines like, “Lindsey hits rock bottom.” Think she’s done that a million times. But I feel a little sorry for her because she is young and she has two very exploitive parents by the look of it.
ericaleigh on 23 Oct 2009 at 7:14 am #
What a great topic!!! I’ve gotten to the point where I try to avoid looking at the tabloids whenever I’m at the store. Its usually just a bunch of bull-crap and half the time I don’t think there’s any truth behind the headlines. But, its so easy to get sucked into that “reality”. I’d have to agree with all the names mentioned and add Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie – enough kids already, take care of the ones that you have!
I’m almost ashamed to admit it but I was a HUGE fan of John & Kate until this season, but I have to finish it out or I’ll always wonder. It used to be a great show with normal everyday people who had an extraordinary situation, I think that was the draw for me. Now they say that they are doing all these things “for the kids” and while normal people can see this and say that they aren’t, the sad thing is that I believe John & Kate think that they are doing it for the children. Crazy.
Julia – so sorry to hear about your sister. I can’t even begin to imagine such a loss. Sending my prayers to you and your family.
TrishD on 23 Oct 2009 at 7:15 am #
Julia, I could not agree with you and your list more. Jon and Kate have to top my list of people who I have no desire to hear another word about. Kate’s whining “my kids are struggling.” Maybe it’s because you keep doing interviews and guest hosting shows when you should be with your kids! Jon’s kicking TLC off their property. News flash Jon, you should have done that years ago! It boggles my mind that there are people who think Jon and Kate are parental role models.
I read an article yesterday about clubs paying “celebrities” to party at their establishment. The names in the article?? Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, Ashlee Simpson, Jon Gosselin and Paris and Nicky Hilton… all names that we hear way too much about and that I’m sick of hearing about!
Amy Scott on 23 Oct 2009 at 7:17 am #
I am sick of seeing Jon and Kate. They need to pull their show off the air. I feel sorry for those poor kids, imagine having your parents dirty laundry aired in every form of media. I get sick of these celebrities that attack each other through the media, especially when they use their childern to do it.
I am also sick of hearing about Jessica Simpson. What is she famous for? At one time she might have had a little bit of a singing career, but since then? A bad reality show, a string of bad movies, and some very bad choices in men.
I am with you Julia, I am so sick of hearing about Lindsey Lohan.
I feel nothing but disgust for the Jackson’s trying to profit from MJ’s death. I read an article that said Joe Jackson demanded an appearence fee to show up at a service held for MJ in his home town. I don’t think they will go away though. I read that they are being given their own reality show. ugh!
I think the thing I would like to go away and never have to hear about or see again is Reality TV.
Julia London on 23 Oct 2009 at 7:18 am #
Seriously — who are the Kardashians? Why them? Are they rich like Paris, or famously adopted like Nicole Ritchie, or something like that?
Amy Scott on 23 Oct 2009 at 7:21 am #
I think their father worked on the OJ Simpson case. I think his name was Robert Kardashian.
Their fame started with Kim Kardashian’s sextape. Her parents must be proud!
Julia London on 23 Oct 2009 at 7:26 am #
AMy, seriously? I didn’t know that. I could never figure out what their deal was (trying to figure it out in the line at the grocery store looking at headlines). Aha, another sex tape scandal. I am so surprised that I missed that.
Kathy on 23 Oct 2009 at 7:28 am #
and their stepdad is Bruce Jenner.
and could someone tell what is so special about Spencer Pratt? I admittedly watched I’m a celebrity get me out of here and he and his wittle wifey acted like they were THE most famous people on earth.heh?
Amy Scott on 23 Oct 2009 at 7:30 am #
Yeah, their father worked on the OJ trial, and I believe he passed away sometime ago.
The sex tape scandal has vaulted a few talentless girls into instant celebrity. Some people will do anything for fame.
Julia London on 23 Oct 2009 at 7:30 am #
Oh, Kathy, I forgot about them! More people I had never heard of and wondered how they got any air time!
Pesky on 23 Oct 2009 at 7:33 am #
Oh you pretty much named all my personal pet peeves. Throw in Tori Spelling who needs to go away now and Lindsay Lohan who is just sad to watch at this point and you’re right there.
The Kardashians are famous for the following: 1. because Kim was a bff of Paris Hilton (another bottom feeder I wish would go away) until Paris stated she had a big posterior. Now they’re not so much friends. 2. Their father helped get off OJ (oh yeah…whoopie) 3. Their step dad is Bruce Jenner (you’d think he could run fast enough to get away with that olympic medal and all) 4. They are best friend’s (and their mother thinks he’s sooooo cute) with Joe Francis. 5. Kim is famous, as her former bff Paris, of making a sex tape. In other words they’re famous for being batpoo crazy.
Paris Hilton (hear the loathing in my voice) that’s another one whose 15 minutes are up… walk away now please… I can pretty much connect her within 6 degrees of separation with everything that’s wrong in society today. I used to be able to do it with Beverly Hills 90210.
Pesky on 23 Oct 2009 at 7:35 am #
OMG Kathy! Yes the infamouse Speidi…they need to take a nice long vacation in a nice padded room. They went past media whores into crazyville.
JudyPatooty on 23 Oct 2009 at 7:37 am #
All I can say is … all of the above! Everyone that you mentioned, Julia, along with all the added names … I would be quite happy if all of those people were banished from the media!
Tanya on 23 Oct 2009 at 7:40 am #
I am so sick of Jon and Kate, I could just barf! Grrrrr those people are horrible!
I think a lot of that is the fault of the media though, just look at the “Balloon Boy” story. Boy, they really rode that story into the ground!
dbrown3400 on 23 Oct 2009 at 7:41 am #
I don’t pay enough attention anymore to these people to be sick of them except for MJ’s TBC. Show me a celebrity who can put their pants on both legs at the same time, then maybe I’ll listen. Only recently did I find out who Jon and Kate are and still don’t know why they have all those children. When I do listen is when celebrities contibute to some major charity, but I seldom hear about that either.
dbrown3400 on 23 Oct 2009 at 7:45 am #
I meant “especially” MJ’s drama. That I really have heard too much about and I haven’t even tried.
amy1242 on 23 Oct 2009 at 7:51 am #
I didn’t know who the Kardashians were either, Julia. I’m not a Reality TV junkie and try to stay as far away from the celeb gossip news as possible. I have two impressionable girls (12 & 13), and I’m not looking for help from LA on how to raise an effed up teen. There are way too many in the world already. I want them to see what’s out there, but I don’t want them to think these people are the norm or the trend setters of the future. They’re not. They sell themselves to the highest bidder and then wonder why they crash and burn.
To add to the list…Miley Cyrus and her “pole dancing” how too’s. Are you kidding me? She just got breasts 4 months ago and now she’s ploe dancing for fun? It’s another one of those WTF moments.
Julia London on 23 Oct 2009 at 8:20 am #
Amy1242, that makes me laugh — Miley Cyrus is really pole-dancing? hahahaaa! Another Disney star with wholesome issues, LOL.
Donna, I just came back from Taos and a cabin high in the mountains where there is no news, no internet, no cell phones. It was so blissfully serene.
elsiehogarth on 23 Oct 2009 at 8:50 am #
Most of the reality show people are famous for doing absolutely nothing but being on a cable show. My mom gets all the weekly magazines and I’ve noticed that you never see “real celebrities” any where near any of these people.
Jon & Kate are definitely Number 1. Both of them only care about themselves. Jon is trying to relive his high school years, not even his college years. Get a job buddy you have 8 kids to support. Kate is too busy promoting her books at booksignings or being on TV. What about the children? Neither one of them cares because they are too busy fighting and bad mouthing one another. Those kids are always unhappy, crying and whinning.
Next are: Heidi & Spencer, The Jacksons-they’re all scheming to make money because MJ (the money maker, who supported them all, is dead and all his money now goes to his children) the Lohans, the Kardashians, the Hogans, the Cyrus’, Paris Hilton, Tori Spelling, Brad & Angelina (not the kids), Tom Cruise(not Katie or Suri), Jessica & Ashlee Simpson(she’s off of Melrose-FINALLY, the worst actress on this planet), any and all of all the Housewives. Put them all on a plane and drop them off on an island.
Julia London on 23 Oct 2009 at 9:03 am #
I am guilty of watching Housewives of whatever city. That show makes me feel good about myself, hahaa.
currently, I am very curious about Kim in Atlanta, who goes through a wig a day. What’s the deal with her real hair? A wig a day? She said she spent something like $28,000 A MONTH on wigs! Vanity, thy name is not Julia after all, but Kim in Atlanta.
Kim on 23 Oct 2009 at 9:07 am #
Julia-you know I’m right there with you! I had a thought this morning. Don’t you think with all the scandals that are going on around reality TV (balloon boy!) that this will be the start of the end of reality tv??
I admit to avidly watching the Real Housewives but I cannot watch Atlanta. They all look like cheap trannies.
Rachel Gibson on 23 Oct 2009 at 9:15 am #
BALLON BOY!!!!!!!! The media needs to stop giving these people what they crave. Television time.
Margaret on 23 Oct 2009 at 9:25 am #
I agree on all of the above mentioned. I didn’t know why the Khardasian bimbo were famous. One of them was on Dancing With The Stars last season but got booted off early on. That’s the only reality show I’ve ever watched. I don’t know who Heidi & Spencer are or even what they look like.
Here’s my prediction on Michael Jackson. As a dead super star, he will bring in bazillions more $$$ to support his family & hangers on in the years to come than he did while he was alive. Following in the Elvis Presley tradition. Elvis dead has made bundles for Priscilla & Lisa Marie. It will be the same with MJ’s folks.
Jermaine is a chip off his dad’s block. Parasites. LaToya should crawl back under her rock, also. I heard her speak on DWTS the other night and her speaking voice was awful to hear. I don’t think I ever heard her sing. Can she? Of all those kids, Janet is probably the class act in the bunch.
J&K + 8 has been cancelled. They will not go quietly as each is looking for their own show. Jon and Michael Lohan. What a pair. I’d be sure and watch “Divorced Dads”. Not. Just like I wouldn’t watch Octomom’s show. If she ever gets one. Over 20 screwed kids on the horizon
Margaret on 23 Oct 2009 at 9:31 am #
I meant screwed up kids, of course. Octo-mom’s 14 and the J/K 8.
Kathy on 23 Oct 2009 at 9:32 am #
Miley Cyrus was NOT pole dancing!lol
she performed on an awards show holding on to an umbrella pole on an ice cram cart. did one squat and bounced right back up. nothing suggestive about it at all.
I stopped watching Access Hollywood this week too. Billy Bush said some mean things about Mary Jo, the cheated on exwife of Dean McDermitt. Actually saying in a snide voice “… and she is not afraid of a camera”
Of course not, she has a successful cooking show that has been running for years.
I am tired of the hype the media gives to these “happily ever after” couples that met while still married to others.
TrishD on 23 Oct 2009 at 9:48 am #
Kathy, I agree with you about the “happily ever after” couples. I’d much rather hear about couples who have been together (whether married or not) for years than those who hook up while still married to other people. Give me Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell over Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie any day.
And I agree with you about Miley. My daughter loves Hannah Montana and I wish people would just give her and her family a break. She’s a teenager, I remember (somewhat) what it’s like. She’s going to do stupid things because she’s still basically a kid. I’m not a celebrity watcher but I don’t think she’s been “out there” like other teen queens.
Pesky on 23 Oct 2009 at 9:54 am #
A wig a day? OMG. Take some Biotin woman! GAH! Now I’m curious! Must google…thus increasing traffic to the sites that support this…thus increasing the amount of time these idiots are on TV. I’m part of the problem! I’m an enabler! I’m so ashamed.
Hi…my name is Pesky and I’m a google addict. Touch my computer and I’ll slap you so hard future generations will have to explain the mark on their cheek.
Hey! Maybe I can get on the reality show Intervention!
I blame it all on Paris Hilton and Beverly Hills 90210 the original…and the demise of Weekly World News. Weekly World News kept me off the streets and fulfilled my need to know gossip. After you read the trials of Bat Boy and the Woman Who Married Sasquatch what more did you need?
Freshechelle on 23 Oct 2009 at 9:56 am #
And why do those chronic pro-creators the Duggars of Arkansas have a TV show and a regular segment on the Today show?

OH MY GOD! Thank you Julia! Except for American Idol I don’t watch any reality T.v. I am utterly utterly sick to death of Jon and Kate, the Kardashians and whoever the housewives are. Seriously why do I care if they are pregnant or not or whatever…
I just want them to stop clogging up the media. It’s like Paris Hilton all over again….. can’t get away from them.
colinfirthfan on 23 Oct 2009 at 10:03 am #
Oh God.. just read the other posts… yes Balloon Boy and the Duggars also need to go away too. Haven’t seen the Duggar show either. No wonder I hardly ever watch T.V. anymore.
Margaret on 23 Oct 2009 at 10:09 am #
I thought of the Duggars also, Fresh. Then I hauled out my trusty calculator. While Mom Duggar is preggers with #19, son Josh and his new bride just produced their #1. They claim they are going to just let the babies come like dear old mom and dad.
My calculator tells me that, with just these 19 kids, if each one produced 19 of their own, by the great-great-grandchild generation there would be 130,321 Duggars. Even the grandchildren would number 361. Great-grands would come to 6,859.
Reality tv has a lot to answer for, but the Duggars were over producing long before they got theiir own show.
Suzanne Enoch on 23 Oct 2009 at 10:17 am #
Amen, sister! The only reality tv I watch is the stuff on Discovery – “Deadliest Catch”, “Dirty Jobs”, etc. I’ve never seen the shows these people are on, and I STILL see them everywhere. It’s like the problem the little kid from “The Sixth Sense” had — I see reality stars. Everywhere.” Yipes!
Sabrina Jeffries on 23 Oct 2009 at 10:28 am #
I haven’t heard of MOST of these people, but since I never watch entertainment news (or regular news, for that matter), it doesn’t really matter.
I do wish they weren’t clogging up the airwaves with a thousand reality shows. I’d rather watch old movies or reruns. Or ANYTHING ELSE.
colinfirthfan on 23 Oct 2009 at 10:29 am #
SuzeE that’s funny. I have been complaining on this very same topic for weeks now.
Here is another thing that pissed me off – Amy Winehouse’s dad says – She and her new boobs are fabulous (or something to that effect).
Can we get creepy celeb dad’s (Jessica’s Simpson’s dad is #1) off the air as well.
Amy Scott on 23 Oct 2009 at 10:30 am #
Margaret- I forgot about Octomom! Chalk that one up as crazy! Thank goodness she has faded away, or a least I don’t hear much about her anymore.
Ok… I haven’t heard of the Duggars. 19 kids, really? Who can afford that these days?
Margaret on 23 Oct 2009 at 10:44 am #
Amy, the Duggars are on TLC just as Jon & Kate are. That show started off as “15 Kids & Counting”. Currently, it’s “18 Kids & Counting”. #19 is due in the spring, I think. I don’t really watch it, but have the occasional episode when I’m bored with other tv offerings.
I’m not sure of the religious denomination of the Duggars but it’s what’s usually known as fundamentalist. In my youth, they were also know as “hard shell”. Usually referring to Baptists. Of which, my maternal grandfather was one.
So, their religious views have a great deal to do with why they don’t use birth control.

Thank you, Julia! I am SICK AND TIRED of these people. The magazines, tabloids, and news feeds are FULL of these people whose only claim to fame is that they are famous, or rather infamous. If your only claim to fame is that you are willing to let the world see exactly how tacky and sad your life is then I am NOT interested!
To me fame should only be extended to the incredibly talented, the incredibly brave or the incredibly good. Period!
If you are a murderer, child molester or rapist neither your name nor your photo should appear anywhere. You should not get public exposure for being evil, stupid, tasteless or just plain odd.
Losers like Jon and Kate, the Kardasians, those housewife bimbos, Paris Hilton, etc. get all of this attention.
Want to know who I want to read about? Soldiers standing tall on foreign soil to keep us safe. Policemen and firemen who put their lives on the line every single day. Teachers who make a difference in children’s lives simply by teaching them to read. Inventors and research scientists who come up with things to make our lives better and save lives. And writers who make life bearable and make you believe in happy endings when life doesn’t.
Claudia Dain on 23 Oct 2009 at 11:51 am #
The balloon boy family! Definitely. They should be jailed ASAP and then that’s the end of that.
Pesky on 23 Oct 2009 at 12:18 pm #
On the note of 15 minutes of fame follow-ups that should have been done.
Last year a young boy with asbergers was humiliated when his experienced teacher labeled him as an issue and asked the class to vote him out of kindergarten. The poor little boy wouldn’t go back to school and was home schooled for first grade.
Follow up: Through the generosity of a grant, his mother was able to send him to a private school, where with the help of a first year teacher he was not only able to assimilate back into school, but was also ON THE HONOR ROLL.
There you go Louisa good news!
Julia London on 23 Oct 2009 at 12:33 pm #
I didn’t realize Balloon boy was actually a hoax until yesterday (the mountains wouldn’t let that tidbit into my life). I am not surprised, but I am so sad for those kids. Just imagine, sitting around the dinner table. Hey, kids, lets do something fun tomorrow. Lets pull off a massive fraud on the American public and hope we get something out of it!
Pesky, i had a second grade teacher who did not like me. She made fun of my art projects and held me out as the example of what not to do. I still remember her so well. She was so mean-spirited and I was only 7 or 8 years old. How obnoxious could I have been?
Wait — don’t answer that.

I wonder how many hits this site has had today because of the names mentioned here. I’m sick of everyone that’s mentioned mentioned.
Amen Louisa!! I think that’s an awesome idea. Add celebs who do genuine charity work, like Gary Sinise. Not only does he volunteer with the USO, performing with the Lieutenant Dan Band, he’s got his charity that gives children in Iraq and Afghanistan school supplies. Why can’t we hear about that kind of stuff?
It’s no wonder I rarely watch tv these days. There’s really nothing on with over 200 channels.

Julia, I had a third grade teacher, who hated children. I think she was an elementary teacher just because she was sooooo short, and she could be taller the children for at least a few years. She was such a bully.:/

Any show that exploits kids as far as I am concerned should not be on TV. Jon, Kate and Balloon boys parents should all be ashamed of themselves for what they have put thier children through. The only reality TV I watch is Dancing with the Stars, American Idol and America’s Got Talent.. other than that, I watch drama’s and sitcoms and the food network. I don’t have time to watch people who think they are important and beautiful.. Half of these woman think there beautiful but it is all artifical.. Fake boobs, fake lips.. fake booty… PLEASSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEE give me break. They all look the same to me nothing me. And who wants there life out there for everybody to critcize.. Somethings need to be keep private..

Pesky…. I hadn’t heard that story and now that you have brought it to my attention I’m steaming mad! My beautiful daughter is autistic and let me just say no one better mess with her or you’ll feel my wrath… and trust me, I can be a witch! In my experience with my daughter, kids can be very understanding and helpful. I’m speechless (almost) over the nastiness those kids were exposed to, and by a teacher!
I’m glad his mother was able to send him to another school but the follow up should have been that the teacher lost their job!!!
Whew… soap box rant over. Sorry for the interruption.

Julia, the balloon boy thing was sooo evil. They diverted planes, spent untold dollars to save this phantom child!! Who does that?!
Did anyone else hear that the number one goal of school kids now is “to be famous.” They don’t have goals about being a famous sports hero or a famous actress or a famous scientist. Just FAMOUS.

Ann…. eeeewww.. really? She has a crush on him??? I dont’ get it.
Pesky, I had no idea about that story. I hope that teacher got her a$$ fired and won’t work anywhere EVER again.

The young boy’s name was Alex Barton and if you google Kindergarten Student Voted Out you can see the main story. It’s sickening and the teacher was put on unpaid suspension (she’s coming off of it now). Google recent news on him and you will get the follow up. It was a story that really upset me so I’ve been keeping an eye out to see what the developments were on the case were.
Hearing about the fact he is now an honor student did my heart good. I was doubting humanity when I read about it.

Claudia…I blame it all on Paris Hilton, and Beverly Hills 90210…and on Twilight. (I actually like Twilight, but…honestly with this much hoopla going on about it it has to be causing some sort of issues.)

Julia your second grade teacher was a piss poor example of educators who obviously didn’t get enough hugs as a child, (probably because she was a witch back then too.) Art is in the eye of the beholder. You could have done the famous work by Jimsey Carol, titled, The Fart. (Jimsey was a class favorite in the first grade art world), and you still should not have had it held up in front of the classroom.

Claudia, when my now 51 year-old daughter was a kid, she wanted to be famous. Her sole goal for a long time. I was forever pointing out she needed some sort of talent. Like acting, dancing, singing, writing or such. To no avail. I offered her classes in all those things, but she wasn’t interested. I think she was sorry to have passed on those things when she tried out to be a Houston Oiler cheerleader 2-3 times and didn’t make the cut.
Now, I guess she was way ahead of her time. LOL

on the up side of that horrendous teacher, I remember a girl named Leah, who sat beside me. When the teacher held up my letter, which I had colored around the margins, and showed the class what a mess it was and how horrible I was, she said, “I thought your letter was pretty.” I will never ever forget Leah. Kindness wins again!
Needless to say, I did not go on to be a famous artist, hahahaha.

For those of you offering condolences for my sister, they are very much appreciated, as they have been since her death on this site. This is such a wonderful, caring group of people! I know I won’t see any of you exploiting your children for fame and fortune!

Julia, we’ve got the best of the best here, don’t we?
Mt. Oly rules. That’s all there is to it.
And yes, what’s UP with these ‘gotta be famous at all cost’ people? Didn’t any of them read F. Scott Fitzgerald when they were in college? Don’t they know the soul-damaging dangers of instant fame and fortune?
Ok, that’s out there but I was helping my daughter with a paper for her college lit class and that was the topic. Honestly, I don’t want to be famous. I just want to have enough to live healthy, buy some books now and then, and go on a fam vacation once in a while.
Seriously, who would WANT all of those cameras following you everywhere and critiquing your hair and clothes and what not? Not me! Sheesh!
Fame has a cost and it’s pretty hefty.

Except for the Amazing Race, I don’t watch reality TV. I didn’t even know Jon and Kate Plus 8 was a show until they started having problems. It is kind of hard to avoid news of them. I don’t watch celebrity news shows or any talk shows. We prefer PBS, The History Channel, even The Weather Channel is preferable to what is on much of TV today. How “real” can a show be with cameras in your face?

How can you be annoyed about Jermaine when LaToya is obviously far more deserving of your nausea?? Have you seen her talking about getting “ghost whisperer” skillz all-a-sudden and has been talking to MJ from the beyond? GAH!!
I’m thankful to live in Australia where J&K aren’t known or cared about.
