Dream Man

When I was a newlywed, I met another woman who was a newlywed. We became friends. As these things go, the more friendly we became, the more we wanted our husbands to meet, nervous and eager that our husbands get along, that we each like each others husband, that her husband like me and my husband like her…it’s one of the complications of being married. You can really like a woman, but if you hate her husband, you’re not going to be ‘couple friends.’

Anyway, I digress. Sort of.

This woman, let’s call her Mary, spent a lot of time talking about how handsome her husband was. Mary would literally blush, her pupils dilate, her breathing get shaky and her voice giggly when she spoke about Don (not his real name). He was so handsome. She told me how they met, how the attraction for her was instantaneous, but she couldn’t believe that any guy this handsome would ever look at her twice. Just for the record, Mary was an attractive woman. Not gorgeous, not beautiful, but generally nice-looking. Mary spent a lot of time gushing about Don’s Adonis-worthy looks.

After a while, it dawned on me that she was sort of warning me off him. A little shot across my bow not to fall in love with her man. Knowing Mary as I did, this wasn’t about me being a slimy, cheating whore; it was about Don being irresistible and so handsome that women couldn’t help but fall at his feet, helpless. Giggling and dilating.

Can you see where this is going?joel-mccrea

We arranged for our husbands to meet, dinner at their apartment. I had told Big D everything, naturally. How Don was supposed to be this total hunk, that Mary was a little nervous about me meeting him and falling for him. Big D thought that was pretty funny.

I have to admit to being curious and very interested to meet this devastatingly handsome man, this man who could fell a room full of women simply by walking into it. Well.

I’m not sure my poker face was at full capacity when I walked into that apartment and met Don, Dream Man. I hope it was, for Mary’s sake.

Don, to my eyes, was a perfectly average looking guy. He had a nice build, but he was too short for my taste. I didn’t like the shape of his nose, his wispy eyebrows, or his tiny teeth. I didn’t like his hair. It can’t be any surprise that Big D looked nothing like Don. My husband is my Dream Man. His particular arrangement of body parts is the arrangement that gets me giggly and dilated.

A Dream Man ideal is not a universal template, one size fits all women.hugh-jackman

My template is tall, dark, sinewy, strong eyebrows, great teeth, great feet. (Don had really hairy toes.) I make no claim that my template is universal, but it is consistently mine. During my youth, I pined for Joel McCrea, nearly a dead ringer for Big D. I also sighed heavily over Gary Cooper. Hugh Jackman is my current Dream Man type. You can see the resemblance between these guys, right? Not only physically, but they have a soft-spoken way about them that zings me.  When I met Big D, there he was, Dream Man. My template, in the flesh.

I think our template comes to us. I don’t think we create it. You either find a man handsome or you don’t. You either dilate or you don’t.

In my latest book (buy! buy! buy! —subtle marketing at its best), the heroine is very confused about her template. I think this makes for some very funny situations; not that she’d think so.

What’s your template for a Dream Man? Has it been consistent? Has it evolved? Does it involve Hugh Jackman?

Good Morning Claudia!!! LOL! I’m glad you didn’t fall for Don. I can’t imagine what Mary would have done to you!

My template is not so much in a man’s looks, its the passion I sense he carries within himself. I definitely go for tall men, dark hair, dark eyes, yet the two men right now who totally do it for me are Johnny Depp and Rob Pattinson. Johnny is so damn sexy, I can barely look at him, even though he isn’t as tall as I normally like my men to be. I sense his passion, the way he chooses what roles to play, the way his eyes dance with mischief and I just know there is so much beneath the surface.

Rob Pattinson also does it for me, for many of the same reasons. I think his portrayal of Edward Cullen was right on. The pain in his eyes, the unwavering passion for the woman he loves. I do think he is good looking, he is very sexy in a careless sort of way.

Both of these men seem to me like they would be very talented, giving and wowing in the bedroom.

Before I met IV, I always dated tall, skinny blonde guys. No idea why. But the instant I met IV I knew. Really. It was one of those meet, stare, holy crap moments. He is definitely not a tall, skinny blonde guy. But he was the one. No question.

    Still is. :)

  3. Sabrina Jeffries on 07 Sep 2009 at 6:34 am #

My Dream Man type is swarthy. Johnny Depp definitely fits in that category for me. Every guy I ever dated that I really, really went for was dark in some way–dark hair, dark skin, Italian or Hispanic looks. I never really went for the Nordic, blond. blue-eyed type. I write them once in a while for variety, but they’re not my favorite.

I like eyes. I love sparkly eyes. My husband has the most gorgeous eyes of any man I’ve ever met (my sweet son has them, too–beautiful, beautiful brown eyes). When DH is smiling or laughing, his eyes have this wonderful warm quality ….

Yep, definitely eyes do it for me. Although I like tall men, I’m not nearly as picky about that. As long as the guy is taller than I am, I’m fine. DH is taller than I am, so I’m good.

Also, I like hair and lots of it. A big hairy man. Well, not a caveman, but nicely hairy. So all these short-cropped male actors and models don’t do it for me quite as much. I like a little messiness–scruff on the chin, longish hair…

Also, I don’t like hyper-muscular. A nice body is one thing–Super Muscles is quite another. That’s why Schwarzenegger never did it for me.

But I do love Hugh Jackman. So what does that say?

  4. Sabrina Jeffries on 07 Sep 2009 at 6:37 am #

Here’s the weird thing, though, Claudia. I don’t find either Joel McCrea OR Gary Cooper attractive, but I find Hugh Jackman incredibly attractive. So maybe HE’s the universal template. *G*

  5. Jennifer on 07 Sep 2009 at 6:43 am #

For the longest time, I didn’t have a “type” at all. Red-heads, blondes, brunettes, short, tall, black, white, asian, hispanic, etc. didn’t matter. I just liked men. As I got older, it sort of pared down to liking men with dark hair and lighter eyes, with slightly darker skin (light black or dark white). I also, and this is weird for most women, liked them with a little paunch around the belly, a little “soft” to them, ’cause that made it so much nicer to hug. I once went out with a professional volleyball player, and he was waaay too skinny and too hard. That didn’t last long.
The last guy I dated was about my height, had dark hair and dark eyes, kind of scrawny, but considered (by others) to be particularly good looking. I liked him well enough but he was just “okay” in looks, in my opinion. My husband is taller than me, has very broad shoulders, is very muscular, has a little belly, and has dark hair and gorgeous blue eyes. Palpatation central FOR ME. But he’s never noticed a lot of girls fawning over him or anything. Then again, he’s very oblivious to things like that.
One thing that always does it for me, though, is when they’re a little nerdy. My ex wasn’t, husband is.

  6. Lisa H on 07 Sep 2009 at 6:45 am #

Oooo Sabrina, I think we like the same types. I love a man who has lots of hair too. I love Johnny with long hair, a little scruff on his chin, and definitely a hairy chest. One thing I forgot to mention earlier which totally turns me on is a man who can sing. Johnny and Rob both sing and they both make me melt while doing it!

  7. Jennifer on 07 Sep 2009 at 6:52 am #

Ms. Jeffries, Ms. H, Are we talking head hair or body hair? I like both, but a lot of women don’t seem to. I think men tend to look to effeminate without chest hair. And leg hair — they should have leg hair.

Oh, and I LOOOOOVE Hugh Jackman in the looks department. Maybe he really is universal!

  8. Lisa H on 07 Sep 2009 at 7:00 am #

I like long hair on his head and chest and leg hair. I also really like beards. It’s all very manly and feels so good when your crushed up against them.

  9. Lisa H on 07 Sep 2009 at 7:01 am #

I think Hugh is very hot in the photo Claudia posted, but I don’t like him clean shaven, with short, cropped hair.

  10. Jennifer on 07 Sep 2009 at 7:20 am #

Ms. H, I agree with you on both — HJ looks much better with scruff. You know, depending on the guy I can even do without head hair (I’ve always had a crush on Bruce Willis). But I couldn’t stand it if the guy was without chest or leg hair. There was one guy I met… GREAT kisser. But… He had NO hair on his legs! Took me completely off guard. Turned out he was bisexual and a crossdresser (two different things! lol) and he shaved his legs. He was nice, and he looked like a young, skinny, Alec Baldwin, but the leg hair was the deal breaker for me. ;) Well, let’s be honest, the bisexuality kind of had a play. The cross-dressing did a little bit, too. But he WAS tall, dark haired, and blue eyed.
    I don’t believe in TMI, sorry. :D

  11. Cail on 07 Sep 2009 at 7:22 am #

Lisa H, I’m SO with you on the beards. Each guy I’ve dated has somehow ended up with a beard while with me. My dh has a lovely one.

I like them tall, dark hair, light eyes. I think as a girl, after meeting my DH, I modeled my crushes after him. Lucky for me, I got the one I wanted in the end. At the end of the day, though, it was always personality. I like them easy going, calm, and always up for an adventure.

Hugh Jackman is definitely a cutie. I’d put him in the Universal category.

  12. Becky on 07 Sep 2009 at 7:34 am #

My template seems to follow the Tall, Dark, and Handsome thread. But more than that, I have this thing about guys…they can’t be shorter than me. I don’t know what it is, but it is an automatic strike out. And I am INSANELY attracted to guys who are built well. Not pro-athletes or body builders [ick], someone who takes care of their body and it certainly helps if they look pretty good without a shirt….
I also have this thing about teeth. They don’t have to be perfect, cuz that’s just cruel, but they do have to be clean and taken care of. Bad teeth are like nails on a chalkboard.
I think that my template has been the same from the get-go. I’m pretty sure the dark part can come and go depending on the rest of the man, but for the most part, it doesn’t change much.
Hugh Jackman is on the list, yeah…but for reality’s sake, we keep him on my If Only dream man list.
And hey, I’m single, so I’m on the hunt!

  13. Karen Hawkins Jackman on 07 Sep 2009 at 7:38 am #

Hugh Jackman … Sigh! Claudia, I applaud your taste! And you’re welcome … You can borrow him for any Dream Man blogs you care to write!

I love a man who looks like a man. I’m not a fan of pretty boy types. And if he has a twinkle in his eyes, I’m a real goner. Love me a man who makes me laugh!

Bow, Claudia, I’m traveling today and reading your book! It’s divine. Hugh is enjoying it, too. He likes it when I read to him. Heh!

  14. Judy F on 07 Sep 2009 at 7:44 am #

Hugh Jackman is the template for me. His looks are a huge part of it but they way he talks about his kids and his wife is just it. You have to love a man who can talk about those he loves.

For me its the eyes and the smile. Currently I am in lust with Mark Harmon on NCIS. His smile just does it for me.

  15. Sabrina Jeffries on 07 Sep 2009 at 7:48 am #

Johnny can sing? Be still, my heart!

  16. Sabrina Jeffries on 07 Sep 2009 at 7:54 am #

Judy F, I love Mark Harmon on NCIS, too. Which is funny because I used to watch him back in the day, and he didn’t really do it for me all that much when he was younger. But now ….

He’s got the eyes, too, the twinkly eyes. Love his eyes.

Teeth are not an issue for me, but they are for DH. He’s really bothered by bad teeth. I don’t notice them nearly as much. Or care.

Oh, yeah, Jennifer, I would say the bisexual thing might be a problem. Or might not. Two hot guys in bed?

Sorry, I have no TMI either. *G* I’d be more bothered by the lack of hair on the legs and the cross-dressing. I just don’t want a guy who looks anything like a girl.

  17. Lisa H on 07 Sep 2009 at 7:59 am #

Sabrina, didn’t you see “Sweeney Todd”? He sings like a very naughty angel. If you haven’t seen the movie, pull up him singing “My Friends” on You Tube. Oh, he totally melted me with that one. Beautiful baritone, smooth as honey, everything about that man just sizzles.

  18. Lisa H on 07 Sep 2009 at 8:00 am #

LOL – Karen Hawkins Jackman. Johnny loves it when I read him the love scenes from the goddess’ books!

  19. Jennifer on 07 Sep 2009 at 8:03 am #

Ms. Jeffries, Oh, I don’t mind two hot men in bed AT ALL. It’s an experience that every woman should have at least once in her life. Makes you feel like the sexiest woman ever. :D

But when he asked me where I got my top? That’s when I knew it was doomed. lol He really was the best kisser, though. *sigh*

  20. Judy F on 07 Sep 2009 at 9:28 am #

I agree Sabrina on Mark Harmon’s looks now. He really didn’t do much for me then but now. WOWZA. USA network has NCIS on today. I have my butt parked on the couch.

  21. SheridanLA on 07 Sep 2009 at 9:56 am #

Hugh.. yeah.. He’s good.. Mark Harmon.. I had forgotten about him! He’s always been a cutie.

I have found all sorts of different physical types attractive. To me, most of it is truly is personality. I have had crushes on all different physical types, but they all make me laugh and challenge my brain. Make me think and keep me amused and I will follow you like a lovesick puppy. Of course that stops and I begin to lose interest.

  22. LisaK on 07 Sep 2009 at 10:16 am #

First of all, Lori, what das IV stand for? I’ve wondered about that since I first read one of your posts, but I never found out. Care to enlighten me?

    >>> His particular arrangement of body parts is the arrangement that gets me giggly and dilated.
This made me giggle. Claudia, you’re so funny yet sweet.

As for guys, I find dark hair (maybe a little longer) attractive, a little beard (not fullgrown, puleeez!) or stubble is nice, too (strange, since I always imagine the heroes in any books cleanshaven). He needn’t be that tall since I’m particularly small and almost every height is taller than mine – I couldn’t stand a man who’s smaller than me, though. I like ‘em lean and muscular – I think that comes from the fact that I’ve attended the gym of my best friend’s father ever since I was 15 – but that also taught me that I don’t like the body building type.

But what’s most important for me is that he’s a man. You know, as in MAN. Not some whiny little boy but someone who catches me when I fall. Someone who’s at least as strong-willed as I am, who stands up to me and isn’t afraid of doing so.

    Unfortunately, I haven’t found that man yet… :(

  23. B on 07 Sep 2009 at 10:19 am #

Very consistent, I dream of him quite often! (And if you tell someone, I may have to silence you. Would totally ruin my façade). Anyway, he’s got black hair, spiky. Very whit skin. Somewhat of a square jaw. Gray bluish eyes. He’s tall, broad shoulders. Way too out of my league, if you ask me. But a girl can dream, right? I know his name, too. It’s not based on anyone I know/want, it’s just a name I really like and would love to scream in bed for the rest of my life :P (can we say that stuff here?)

I think Mark Harmon’s hot. But I’m a huge sucker for Mark Weatherly! THAT is a helluva man!

  24. LisaK on 07 Sep 2009 at 10:26 am #

I love that HJ-pic Karen chose, btw. Beau-ti-ful!

And I like Mark Harmon, too, but he’s definitely too old for me. My mum, however, is a total sucker for him. “Oh, Gibbs, now that is a man!” she keeps saying. Embarrassing! :P ;)

    Here now, B, you’re a very naughty girl, aren’t you? I like you! :)

  25. B on 07 Sep 2009 at 10:30 am #

Lisa, I’m hardly naughty, maybe only in my head. I have a really big mouth, and a lot of dreams. But, honestly, I have the life experience of a rat.

And I meant Michael Weatherly over there. I’m still half asleep.

  26. Archer on 07 Sep 2009 at 12:27 pm #

The main thing in my template is tall. My friends think its pretty funny sincfe I’m 5′2″ but I almost always get the tallest guy :) My boyfriends mother told him she thinks I’m too short for him which is pretty funny since he’s my shortest bf (6 feet).
I love guys with dark hair, light skin and blue eyes. Never dated anyone that fit that.
I always end up with the guy who’s smart, nice, and funny while my friends end up with the hot jerks :)

I love Rob Pattinson… he’s so sweet and awkward when he talks its adorable. Feel so bad at how he’s being pawed and groped all the time.

The thing with Hugh Jackman that I find sexy is he’s such a nice guy. The whole in love with his wife and adopted children thing is just yumm. His Wolverine scenes will bring a smile to anyones face.

The two celebs that fit my template perfectly are Gerard Butler and Matthew Macfadyen. I guess I would have been more successful at finding someone to fit my template if I lived in the UK :)

  27. Janae on 07 Sep 2009 at 1:27 pm #

I love that picture of Hugh!

Type – hmm. My dh is one of the shortest guys I’ve ever dated and the only runner. The rest were football players and/or wrestlers. Consequently, he’s not as built, but it doesn’t seem to be an issue. Up until I started dating him, I was in love with brown eyes – warm, chocolatey, brown eyes. My dh has incredible blue eyes that sparkle, twinkle, whatever. He literally smiles with his eyes. It was the conversations that we’ve had that just sucked me. There was a time when we were apart, but we talk on the phone for hours on end and never run out of things to say.

  28. Solveig on 07 Sep 2009 at 1:37 pm #

Congrats again on the new book Claudia :Ö) still waiting for my copy though :Ö/ getting pretty excited :Ö) Some very nice examples of men here :Ö) I´m the “Mark Harmon/Clark Gable/Cary Grant/Mel Gibson/Harrison Ford” type :Ö) and gray hair drives me crazy, I´m waiting on tender hooks for UH to get more of it :ÖD As for body hair = yeachrrrr but I don´t really want to see UH without a beard, weird ha? I like the tall, dark, handsome and tough type. Not pretty boys but the burly strong featured kind of guys. Love Hugh in X-men, hate him in Oklahoma (really weird, there he just gives me the heeby jeebies :Ö/ can´t explain it (sorry Karen)).

  29. Archer on 07 Sep 2009 at 1:44 pm #

I have not idea why my post got stuck in moderation :-/

  30. Paula on 07 Sep 2009 at 1:51 pm #

Lisa H just to amke you drool I watched Johnny in Pirates and the Black pearl on saturday. I was in heaven and had very sweet dreams that night!!
Hugh Jackman (be still heart of mine!) is just gorgeous I know I have to share him but it would be worth it!

My template for a man is: dark hair and dark eyes. Tall nice (irish!!) accent and good sense of huumour!!
My Dh is taller than me has dark hair darkish eyes a dimple in his chin and has irish background but not the accent. He makes make heart dance when he walks in a room even after 18years of marriage. Even though sometimes he makes me as mad as hell!!

  31. Meg on 07 Sep 2009 at 2:03 pm #

My template/dream man at the moment would have to be David Boreanez. **sigh** And something along those lines is what has made up my template my entire life. Someone who is taller than me. Muscular build. Hair and eyes can vary though the voice has to be just right.

And Claudia. I went to the bookstore Friday to get your book and they told me they would not get it until the 16th of this month! My local Walmart did not have it either! I was so p!ss@d!! One way or another, though, I will be getting it!

  32. Ronlyn on 07 Sep 2009 at 2:16 pm #

my template is tall. Not just average tall, but TALL, as in over 6′. Which is really amusing since I’m only 5′ tall. (Mr. H is 6′3) And built well…not too thin but not too big. And high cheekbones and a full head of hair. And, the one thing I’ve always looked at for as long as I can remember: large hands with long fingers. *swoon* I don’t know why, but there you go. ;-)

  33. evlqn on 07 Sep 2009 at 3:03 pm #

I’m 5′2″ and I once dated a guy who was 7′2″, I danced with his belly button. He was definitely not the norm for me. I like them moderately tall (anyone over 5″10 is moderately for me). Dark hair, dark complected, and light eyes. Of course I will throw it all in the trash heap for pits when they smile, and intelligence in their eyes. If they can’t string two intelligent words together I’m gone, I don’t care how pretty they are.
Current favorites- Jackman, I sense a theme.
    Connery, always.
Brian Stokes Mitchell, I love that voice and that smile.
Depp, he is just left of center.
And love the chest hair, gotta have something to play with later, okay get your minds outa the gutter!

  34. Bronwen on 07 Sep 2009 at 3:28 pm #

    Hello from New Zealand

Funny you should focus on Hugh Jackman. Our Wellington Chapter of RWNZ has adopted Hugh as our male fantasy – gorgeousness personified. We have to mention him at every meeting! I think the thing that appeals most is that he is very handsome yet wholesome. He is married to a woman older than him, keeps his family life very personal and seems to be a genuine all round nice guy. Plus he’s from down under. He is just what we are all looking for.

  35. Janae on 07 Sep 2009 at 3:28 pm #

I just realized that I made it sound like my dh is short. He’s 5′9.5,” which really isn’t short. Most of the other guys I dated were over 6.’

  36. Suzanne Enoch on 07 Sep 2009 at 6:06 pm #

My mind blanked when I saw that photo of Hugh. I think I’ll just sit here and gaze for awhile.

  37. Louisa Cornell on 07 Sep 2009 at 6:21 pm #

I’m sitting blank-minded right along with Suzanne. Hugh is one of my fantasy templates for all of the reasons Bronwen mentioned. He really seems to be such a nice guy in addition to being drop dead gorgeous.

My late DH was the blond-haired, blue eyed baby faced type. He was two years younger than me and looked about five years younger darn him! He was still getting carded at 30. But I think it was his dry wit, his gentle ways and his absolute sincerity as a human being and as a man that made him such a one of a kind template that after 14 years of marriage and 16 years of widowhood I have never remarried.

  38. Claudia Dain on 07 Sep 2009 at 6:52 pm #

    I’m sorry!!

I’ve had no internet connection for TWO DAYS. I’m just back online.

I’m so sorry I wasn’t here to talk about your dream man. It’s been one of those wonky days (two days) with a down internet.

Hope you all had a great day!

  39. Pesky on 07 Sep 2009 at 7:03 pm #

As all good dream men do, mine has evolved.

I went through Danny Kaye, Gregory Peck, Cary Grant, musical Elvis (prior to jumpsuit Elvis)….then I moved on to Pierce Brosnan (pre-bond even!), Richard Chamberlain (yeah…I know), Harrison Ford (Ohhhhh man, Harrison), and now, well depends…The Hughes (Jackman, Laurie, Grant NOT Hefner), Rufus Sewell, George Edes, Karl Urban (I’ve enjoyed his acting since Xena)…and in the nice to look at but good god they are wayyyyyyyyyy to young catagory Rupert Friend and Ben Barnes (gads I need to take some geritol just thinkin about them.) I’ve enjoyed all these actors works and had a few dreams on them, but their works are really all I know.

But my dream man and the men I date long-term in real life have been consistent. My man must smile in his eyes as well as with his mouth, be kind, be honest, like to read. He tends to be curious, active, and have a quick mind. Basically he must be comfortable in his own skin as I am in mine. He must have warmth.

  40. Claudia Dain on 07 Sep 2009 at 7:13 pm #

Geez, Meg, that’s horrible! What’s with that? I know it’s not going to make Walmart, but your bookstore should have had it! I’m so sorry.

  41. Patricia Barraclough on 07 Sep 2009 at 10:14 pm #

My templet? Never really thought about it much. In all honesty, I’ve considered what he was like inside more. I guess, i like the rugged type. I know this really dates me (think 1960’s), but Dr. Ben Casey (Vince Edwards) rather than Dr. Kildare (Richard Chamberlain) but it was a hard choice. I want him to be nice, but not too nice. My sister got upset with me once when I made a comment that meant I didn’t think my DH was just the most handsome man around. I’m supposed to think that way according to her. I love him for who and what he is not for his looks (which aren’t too bad by the way). He is a really nice person and we share a lot of common interests. I put up with his faults and he puts up with mine ( I have way more). What better templet can you have.

  42. Archer on 08 Sep 2009 at 12:19 am #

    Janae,

your description of his eyes is sooo sweet

  43. Angela on 08 Sep 2009 at 7:14 am #

My template is usually Hugh Jackman.
However, I do waffle between him and Daniel Craig.
I like man who is intelligent, has a sense of humor and is passionate about one thing, me. LOL
So glad you didn’t fall for Don. Your hubby sounds like the guy for you.

  44. kay on 08 Sep 2009 at 7:26 am #

I like tall, dark and handsome…like Oded Fehr from the Mummy. It helps if they have a slight accent also, don’t really care what kind. The accent adds to the thrill.

  45. Claudia Dain on 08 Sep 2009 at 7:44 am #

Angela, I think Daniel Craig is gorgeous, but he doesn’t do it for me like Hugh Jackman. The Hugh Type is MY type. (Karen, are you listening?)

Did you know that Daniel and Hugh are doing a play on Broadway together? I would give my right arm to see that play! I think it was sold out five seconds before the ticket box opened.

  46. Claudia Dain on 08 Sep 2009 at 7:46 am #

Pesky, Cary Grant is gorgeous, and what a nice man in real life! But he never could zing me the way Gary Cooper could. Cary was too…thick. I don’t mean weight, I mean body shape.

  47. Claudia Dain on 08 Sep 2009 at 7:48 am #

You know, speaking of templates, Karl Malden fits mine as well. A face only a mother could love, but those twinkling blue eyes! That LONG body. That quiet intensity. Love that!

  48. Claudia Dain on 08 Sep 2009 at 7:49 am #

Bronwen, Hugh Jackman deserves the honor!!! We on Mount Olympus will share him with you, though not happily. *G*

I agree that there are very few men whom every woman would agree are stunners. I like the word template. I am not sure what mine is. There is the daydream template, and then there is the reality template, and they are not the same thing. I am not sure that I could function in life if my sig other was the daydream template. I would never be able to talk because I would just be mesmerized.

Which brings us to Hugh. :) First, let me say that IMO this blog is perfect just with that picture (although he sort of looks young in it—early pic? He has been aging very, very well, is what I mean, which is not to take away from how incredible he looked when younger. But I digress. . .) See, Hugh manages to be a daydream guy, but also there is something about him that seems accessible and realistic. At least to me.

Anyway, my template is dark and silent. Love the mystery. The danger, of course, and I speak from experience, is that when you delve deeply—- nothing may be there!

Template, that’s the word that works for me. I’ve been in love with guys over the years (before I was married!) who I’ve found attractive enough, but I knew they didn’t fit my template. Too short. Too thick. Too fair-skinned. I still loved them, still dated them, but the template wasn’t right and I knew it.

When I met Big D…ZING. ZINGING, ZING, ZING. Still Zinging after all these years.

    ;)
