Karen RoseKaren Rose & My Life As A Plebe & On Writing!
First, I CAN SEE YOU hits shelves today! In it, heroine Eve Wilson has a particular expertise that the hero needs to catch a killer. She’s an expert in an online virtual world game, in which gamers can be anyone they want to be. They think they can play unseen, anonymously. But someone is watching, hunting, waiting for them to let their guard down. Take a peek at the book video at my website: www.karenrosebooks.com
!
Now back to our regularly scheduled blog… While in DC for RWA, youngest daughter and I went to an upscale makeup place for a makeover. I always look forward to makeovers, although I always experience a little trepidation as I approach the counter. This day – lots of trepidation. The makeup lady had really wild eye makeup – greens, purples, bold strokes. Kind of like the colors of a peacock, just painted on her eyelids. Not quite as bad as Mimi in the photo, LOL.
I thought, “So this is the lady who’s going to show ME how to apply makeup?” I almost said, no thank you. But I’d lost my makeup bag months ago and knew I’d be awfully scary without makeup at RWA. So I sat on the high stool and put my face in her hands and I had a very good time! She did a reasonably good job giving me a new “dramatic” look, but best of all, I got to try lots of new colors and new brands, so the fact that she had electric blue eyeshadow on didn’t really hurt the experience at all.
I must admit I’m always a little afraid of hair stylists with wild hair, but I’m more afraid of stylists with an unattractive style. I always wonder how they can do my hair if theirs looks so horrid. My current stylist is a man with a very normal haircut. He wears kind of a tool belt with all his scissors and gear, and somehow all this gives him credibility. I love the way he cuts my hair and my color is awesome, so it’s good.
I never knew how important a good clothing store clerk was until I experienced one. It was at Nordstroms in San Francisco last summer. Now, all clothing stores pale in comparison. I’ve been spoiled!
For some shopping, finding an expert is more important than others. I like to shop at Best Buy, because the clerks there seem to know what they’re doing. But I don’t really care about expertise when I’m shopping for groceries. Of course I want unerring expertise from doctors, dentists, accountants, car mechanics …
For what stuff that you buy do you want to see expertise and credibility? How do you judge if somebody’s good or not? Which places have helpful, knowledgeable sales people? And for what stuff do you just not care?

Tech stuff. I know nothing. I like Best Buy too. And the Apple store. They all seem to have a clue. Or at least more of a clue than I do.
<>
Recommendation at first, then if they work out–see above–repeat as needed.

Books and clothes I can hold my own. Jewelry too but that’s because my mom worked in fine jewelry for 20 years so I had great help.

Ms. Rose,
I was the “bouncer” at the door, for the literacy sale/signing. You looked very nice. Did you wind up buying some more makeup? Or was that when Mimi did it?
Lorena on 05 Aug 2009 at 7:15 am #
Even when I don’t know what I’m looking for (computers, etc) I generally know what I want (in terms of function) — same with clothes, hair, makeup, etc. I figure the person in the store is the expert on what they have, while I’m the expert on what I need to do with it. A salesperson who understands that and doesn’t try to convince me I need something else, really gets my respect.
I can’t wait until Saturday to get my copy of I Can See You …
TrishD on 05 Aug 2009 at 7:17 am #
First… Congratulations on the book Karen! I’ve ordered it and should have it on Friday but now I’m thinking that I’m making a special trip today to see if I can find it here in my small town. I’m not sure I can wait until the weekend to read about Evie and Noah!
Now to answer your questions. I have to have an expert when it comes to anything techy. I’m not completely useless when dealing with technology but until I’m over my learning curve I need an expert to guide me. I’d like an expert to help me with my cloths and makeup but I’m not ready to have a Stacy London wanna be make me over. I’ll ask other readers to tell me their favorite authors but I’m pretty confident with my own choices. Hey, I have all the Goddess on my bookshelf so I can’t be wrong!
JudyPatooty on 05 Aug 2009 at 7:53 am #
Congratulations on the new book, Karen!
I know what you mean about hair stylists. There’s one guy at the salon I go to who has a shaggy mohawk that is usually a different color (or colors) every time I go there. He’s always got a client in his chair and they usually leave looking normal, but it still freaks me out to see his hair.
I love having an “expert” do my hair and I’ve always enjoyed getting the lady at the Prescriptives counter “do” my face on occasion. I would love to have Stacey and Clinton from “What Not To Wear” take me shopping. I have very little fashion sense and would love to have their expert guidance on what would be flattering on me.
However, I usually rely on my own research and recommendations from knowledgeable friends when it comes to technological things.
amy1242 on 05 Aug 2009 at 7:58 am #
I’m with Lori on this question. For techy stuff I go on recommondations and then head to Best Buy. I also check it out on the web, so I can ask questions and know, somewhat, what I’m talking about when I go to the store.
For clothes and hair/make-up stuff, I almost never listen to what other people recommend. I buy what I like and not what’s fashionable. The last time I let my friends make me up, I thought I looked like a street walker (and there are pictures to prove it). So I do my own make-up and apply it sparingly.
Congrats on the new book Karen! B & N is on my list of things to do this week, so I’ll pick it up! Can’t wait!!
SuzyQ on 05 Aug 2009 at 8:00 am #
Usually, I know what I want when I go shopping. I know what I like in terms of clothing, shoes, and jewelry. I am a techy person too, but if I don’t know much about something, I’ll research it online before going out shopping. I’ve run into to many salespeople that really weren’t that knowledgeable so I guess I just don’t trust their opinion.
And I’ll be making a trip to Borders at lunch!

I seek good service & will pay more for it. It’s a big part my work so I don’t settle for less when I’m the customer. If I have to bend over backwards for you, I expect the same.
Skin care – I’m not buying from The Gap or Bath & Body Works or Victoria’s Secret. What do they know about about skin health, they sell pants and candles. I like independent, natural skin care products that are made by people who try to do one thing well.
Car maintenance – I hesitated getting an Audi because I heard their service wasn’t very positive. I got one and immediately switched dealerships for maintenance because the 1st place had no understanding of customer service. There is an MB dealer in NJ that gives exceptional service. I hope to be their customer again someday.
Apple – a great customer service standard. You can walk in a be treated well or make an appointment and get private shopping without having to be a high roller like the private shopping programs at Saks and Neimans.

Whoohoo, can’t wait to get the new book, Karen! Headed out in a little while and will make a stop at B&N.
As for expertise, I totally totally agree with you on all counts. Love Best Buys for expertise. And I’ve met a few people here in Utah who give me great advice on hair and makeup. I rarely shop for clothes so I don’t have that problem, lol.
And even when you get advice from trusted friends, it can go terribly bad. When we first moved here, I used a dentist my neighbor swore by, but he put in a crown wrong, then ground down my live teeth to make the crown try to fit… I ended up having to do thousands of dollars of repair work with a specialist and physical therapist.
So now I get recommendations from several people before I decide on something so important.
Wishing you great success with your new baby!!
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 8:28 am #
Lori, I’d love to have jewelry expertise! DH did a lot of research when he bought my diamond set – even went into the diamond vault of a local wholesaler (or whatever you call them). But I’m almost scared to buy my own fine jewelry – I know some slick salesperson will probably take me.
So I tend to buy my jewelry from Claire’s, LOL. If I get really spendy, it’s Macy’s.
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 8:33 am #
Jennifer, thank you! Were you the bouncer at the door who let us go through at the end?
Yes, I did end up buying some makeup. I bought a few things just for myself, but youngest daughter and I agreed to share some of the items like bronzer and blush. Haven’t shared with my girls before, so that was fun! (Oldest would wear makeup only if tied down and tortured first. She’s more of a wash-n-wear kind of girl.)
No, Mimi hadn’t done my makeup that day. Youngest and I did the shopping on Monday, and youngest made me wipe off the very dramatic smoky eye look. I was “so embarrassing.” Snicker. I’d told the makeup lady to give me a look “one step away from a hooker.”
Youngest was SO embarrassed. Score! I rule.
LoriHandeland on 05 Aug 2009 at 8:39 am #
K-Ro–Good for DH! Mine did the same when he bought me a new diamond for our 20th anniversary. I was so impressed.
It’s always good if you’re buying something major to try and find a salesperson you know or on a recommendation. And go to a store that’s been around a good long while. Also, ask for a paper (can’t remember what it’s called now, ack) that says what you bought–color, cut, clarity, size etc–and what it’s worth. You’ll need this for insurance anyway, so they’ll be happy to give it to you.
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 8:57 am #
Lorena – I’m with you on salespeople who are respectful, give you info and don’t push.
Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday, too!
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 9:06 am #
TrishD – chuckling, had to google Stacy London – am I out of touch, or what? I agree – I’m not stupid about techy things, but I need somebody to explain it to me. I know what I want the dang thing to do, just not how that translates into specifications. You know, gigahertz and stuff like that. Huh? Just tell me if it’ll let me play games and DVDs.
JudyP – I guess if the mohawk guy always has a client in his chair, that says a lot! There’s this young guy at my salon who’s never done my hair, but once he did the shampoo. OMG. He had incredible hands. The girls just don’t seem to have the strength in their hands to do the head massage the same way.
Now I always go to the salon and longingly watch the ladies getting his shampoos. I wish I could ask for him to do mine, but I’m always afraid of hurting the feelings of my stylist’s assistant, a nice young lady who does his shampoos. It’s a little thing, you know? But it feels really nice
In my mind, I call the guy with the great shampoo hands “Juandisimo.” If you watch Fairly Oddparents, you’ll know who I mean, LOL.
Freshechelle on 05 Aug 2009 at 9:13 am #
Mmmmm, a shampoo and head massage, so nice. Used to go to a place where I would say prayers that the Japanese guy would do my shampoo. Talented hands.
It’s nice to sometimes go to the salon only for a blow out just because.
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 9:14 am #
Amy – LOL – did your friends mean you to look like a street walker? Do they look like street walkers? I imagine doing makeup on somebody else is not at all the same as doing it for yourself.
I remember in highschool, I had this pal named Gwyn. Gwyn was completely lovely, this tall ethereal blonde who simply sparkled. (Then she went punk, dyed her hair green and did weird things with safetypins, but it was 1980 and rock stars were sticking their heads in flower pots, so there. She still sparkled.)
Anyway, Gwyn was a talented watercolor artist. She did my makeup one day – first time anyone had used an actual paintbrush on my face. “Keep it light, airy,” she’d say. I think that might have been one of the best makeovers for every day that I’ve ever had. I thought I’d end up looking like a street walker, because I think she was in her green hair phase by then, but I looked very natural. Didn’t know what a gift the girl had back then.
TrishD on 05 Aug 2009 at 9:15 am #
Karen – Does your husband know about”Juandisimo”?
And yeah, I know who you mean.
Deb Marlowe on 05 Aug 2009 at 9:18 am #
Congrats on the new release, Karen!
I really on my dh for the tech expertise. As for clothes, I only go shopping with Claudia Dain in tow. Problem solved.
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 9:23 am #
Trish – yes, DH knows about Juandisimo, LOL. I came home the day he did the shampoo, just sighing. We’re a big Fairly Oddparents family. (His name is Phillip! He’s a girl nickel! Yay, violence! Love that show.)
SuzyQ – I should take you shopping with me for techy stuff. I’m remembering that you worked (still do?) for a camera company. My camera BROKE at RWA and I need a new one. Recommendations? I picked mine because it was slim and pink. I think I should have chosen different criteria…
Julia London on 05 Aug 2009 at 9:23 am #
Definitely need help with technical stuff, but I generally rely on friends and family and their opinions than the stores, because I figure the stores are selling me their product. I also rely on online places like CNet, which seems to be pretty unbiased when it comes to electronics.
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 9:26 am #
DebM – I wanna go shopping with Claudia (whine). She was the one who took me to Nordstrom’s and ruined me for shopping anywhere else, altho the Nordstrom’s here in Tampa is not nearly as nice. Maybe we just got the saleswoman of the year in SF or something. Salesgirls in my local store were a little snooty and not terribly helpful.
I was looking for an evening gown and they were like, “We don’t have your size.” I wanted to smack them, but I was with another author so I behaved myself. (Actually I was shopping with the legendary Virginia Henley, who is a firecracker and the most approachable, kind woman. She probably would have cheered me on!)
Madeline Hunter on 05 Aug 2009 at 9:28 am #
I am a big fan of word of mouth recs for doctors, or any credentialed professionals. Sorry, but I always wonder what happened to the ones who barely got by in school.
I really identify with your trepidation with the hair stylists. I had an appointment at a top salon here some years ago, and my styist had this rat’s nest of a style. She asked me what I was looking for in a new style and I blurted, “Not like yours!”
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 9:29 am #
Fresh, I always hear good things about the Apple store employees. I just have an issue with Apple in general (sorry Apple fans). Seems overpriced and the iPod makes you buy the music. If Apple ever did a subscription service, I’d consider it.
Of course, I have this one friend who is an Apple convert. If I ever actually bought an Apple gadget, I could never tell anyone, ’cause she’d find out and smile at me smugly
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 9:31 am #
Madeline – oh thank you! I laughed today and I needed it (have release day jitters). I’ve wanted to say “Not like yours!” so many times.
I always think of the Ted Danson episode on Taxi, when he did Marilu Henner’s hair and Louie ended up getting revenge because they made Henner look ridiculous. One of my favorite episodes! Evil Ted Danson hairstylist.
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 9:33 am #
Nicole, I’m shuddering! Ouch! You’re right to get a second opinion. I have to get some dental work done, so I have to start asking people. First question, do the do a good job? Second question, can they put me out with gas so I don’t have a heart attack in the chair?
Hate going to the dentist…
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 9:34 am #
Julia – I have used CNet a lot in the past. Will have to give them a try again!
When I get paid again, I need a new MP3 player (not an iPod) and a camera, so I should research CNET so I’m ready to shop when the time comes.
Jamie on 05 Aug 2009 at 9:55 am #
I am a sales person, so I look at things a bit different from those who never had a sales job to begin with. I look at sales people for their knowledge and how their customer service skills are. If a person seems not to have any customer service skills it blows everything out of the water for me. I will not go to that place no matter how good everything else is. I have changed banks and my cell phone service because of customer service. I used to go to this place that had the BEST bagels. They treated me with disdain, while treating other customers nice. I stopped going there and when people would ask me where a nice place for lunch was I would tell them anywhere but there.
People who come to the CVS, where I work, seem to like me because I try my best to serve them. Once again if they are civil to me, I will go out of my way to be nice to them. I try to get them the most bang for their buck. The ones who treat me like I am a stupid person and think I am only working at a pharmacy because I am dumb, I am just civil to. I don’t go out of my way for those people, but I am nice to them.
Jamie on 05 Aug 2009 at 10:04 am #
For Tech things – I like to go to Best Buy and Radio Shack because they have people who will answer their questions and if they don’t know the answer, they will usually try to find it for you. I also like to check Amazon.com. The reviews do make a difference to me for tech things – for books, I go by what I like because there is a difference in taste between books that you gals write and books about the history of things and all.
My niece is a hair stylist and I have noticed that good hair stylists can do a great job because they go to what the customer wants more than their own wants. As for dentist and doctors – I want them to know what they are talking about. I don’t want them getting pigeon holed and not trying. I changed back to my old doctor’s office because I didn’t like the new doctor. Reason I changed is insurance wouldn’t let me go to a NJ doctor because I live in PA. Luckily for me when I went to CVS, I was able to go back to my old doctor.
Sometimes customer service isn’t enough. You need knowledge and the only way to know is to be with the person. I will tell my Mom, she loves your books and I’m sure she will want to read it.
Janae on 05 Aug 2009 at 10:29 am #
Recommendations are so important! I haven’t had a really good haircut since I moved to CA 12 years ago until this year. Very few people know how to cut curly hair. Fortunately, I’ve a gf who has curly hair and a great stylist. I should have asked her sooner because now I love my stylist. She’s great at shampooing; is fun; and knows how to cut my hair.
Clothes and accessories – I’m good. I’ve watched enough Stacey and Clinton to know what kind of clothes to pick for my body type, and I’m really good knowing what looks good on me.
Dh does TONS of research before he buys anything. It’s good, but at the same time it’s kind of annoying. The one time he didn’t do any research, he bought some cordless phones that were on the same frequency as the microwave, which meant you couldn’t use them at the same time.
SheridanLA on 05 Aug 2009 at 11:25 am #
I went into a Forth and Town store one day to buy some clothes with a friend.. it was the first chain store that was not insanely expensive that had sales people who knew the clothes, their line and went out of their way to help. I was happy to spend the cash there and completed two of my most expensive shopping days there – happily. Sadly, the parent company – Gap (or whatever it is called) decided to close the entire chain and focus on the other stores.
I am totally up for paying more for that kind of help and knowledge. I worked for Apple for a while in one of the retail stores.. I already had a great base knowledge of the product, but there was a lot of training required and high expectations. I have had sales people argue with me over things I know they are wrong about. I don’t shop at those stores. If I had to learn about the products backward and forward, then i think other sales people should have a decent knowledge of their product and store.
I also find the better the product/store is, the better the service is AFTER the sale. ya know?
Madeline Hunter on 05 Aug 2009 at 11:58 am #
karen, regarding “don’t have your size”—– this summer I went to Macy’s looking for a new RITA award dress. Now, please understand that when Federated bought May’s, or the other way around–I forget which—, the consolidation obliterated our only competing department store. So now here in the wilderness, all we have is Macy’s.
They had NO EVENING WEAR “in my size.” None. Zero. Zip. No cocktail dresses. No gowns. Not even mother of the bride wear. They had removed it for the summer, and none would arrive until late August–maybe. This is what happens when there is no competition, I swear.
A lifetime ago I went to a woman’s dress store where the saleswoman would go out and bring stuff back to my dressing room. Oh, my. The memories of civilized life.
Claudia Dain on 05 Aug 2009 at 12:28 pm #
I definitely want a solid referral for a dentist or physician, and even then I go in with my eyes wide open and my skepticism meter clicking. Nicole, you poor thing!
For hair stylists, the most terrifying choice on Earth, it works to approach a total stranger who has a great hair-do and ask where she gets her hair done. At least it’s a start!
For tech stuff, I’m Apple all the way.
Claudia Dain on 05 Aug 2009 at 12:29 pm #
Oh, and Madeline? I am that woman. The one who goes out and brings stuff in for trying on. That’s why I’m so popular as a shopping companion.
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 1:28 pm #
Jamie – interesting perspective from a sales person! What do people do to treat you as if you’re stupid? I would hope I don’t inadvertently do any of those things!
I think was impatient with my pharmacy last week, but I had a fever of 102, so I’m hoping they understood that. Still, it can’t be easy dealing with impatient people all day
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 1:29 pm #
Janae – now I’m going to have to catch this Stacey and Clinton show on TV. What’s the name of the show (yes, I am clueless). Do they only dress really skinny people?
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 1:31 pm #
Madeline, it’s disgraceful how these companies have streamlined so much that only “regular” people can shop. I’m not that irregular and I find myself shopping on line a lot. That’s a problem with gowns and such as the sizes are often unpredictable. Luckily this year I was able to wear last year’s dress – I bought it at Dillards in Sarasota and was pleased with it. Only I didn’t win a RITA two years in a row. Maybe it was the dress? LOL.
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 1:32 pm #
Claudia, some day I’m coming down to NC just to shop with you again. You are a treasure!
Jamie on 05 Aug 2009 at 1:50 pm #
Karen, I work in the front of the store. CVS has these extra bucks that you get if you have the card. They are a coupon AFTER the sale for the next purchase. I get people demanding they get the item for $5.00 and I nicely try to tell them that they have to pay $7.00 and THEN they will get a $2.00 coupon. They yell at me and then say – I’m not yelling at you. I think – then WHO are you yelling at? I tell them nicely to talk to the manager or call the 1-800 number to complain, but they keep only wanting to yell at the messenger (me). Then I get those who literally treat me like I don’t understand anything. Excuse me, I’m not the one that can’t read that the sign said “buy 1 get 1″ – they think what do I know, I only work at a store.
I was shocked to hear that you got rude treatment at a clothing store – “We don’t have your size here.” I’m a plus size woman and I get the – “when is your baby due?” I tell them – “I’m not pregnant, I’m fat.” Then they say, “Oh, you aren’t fat.” If I wasn’t fat, why would they ask me when my baby was due? I LOVE to look at their shock and embarassed looks when this happens. They are mortified & personally I don’t really care that much.
Claudia Dain on 05 Aug 2009 at 1:53 pm #
Karen, Stacy and Clinton are on What Not To Wear. It’s a fabulous show. They do not care what size you are, what shape you are, how old you are; they only care that you wear clothes/hair/make-up that suits you and makes you look wonderful. It’s a very empowering show, imo, because they don’t focus on size, but on STYLE.
I wish I could remember the channel, maybe TLC? It’s cable, so I hope you can get it!
TrishD on 05 Aug 2009 at 2:12 pm #
Jamie, I too have been cursed with the “When is your baby due?” comments. I love your comeback! Straight to the point. I recently went shopping for a dress for my nephew’s wedding and went into a “larger” ladies store. The sales lady was the size of the clothes she sold and she gave honest opinions. The store is an hour away from me but I’ll go back the next time I get the itch to shop.
Claudia, You’re right. It’s TLC.
Judy F on 05 Aug 2009 at 3:05 pm #
Karen Congrats on your release day. I know it will rock I hope my copy comes soon.
I agree on techie people. I am clueless on things. I appreciate those that take the time to help me with things I am not sure about. I have the best mechanic. I have been going to him for ages. He and his co owner are awesome, they explain what has to be done now, what can wait and what we need to do in the future. I never fell like they talk down to me. I recommend them to everyone that asks.
Hair stylist are another. I really like the girl I go to now, she is young 20 or 21 I think. Now he hair isn’t wild or bad but its great for her age but not for me. She really listens to what I like and what works for me.
Several years ago I went and had my makeup done. I don’t wear much and I felt like I had layers on after this girl got done. I think they need to keep that in mind when they are making you up.
PJ on 05 Aug 2009 at 3:06 pm #
I’m pretty good about picking out clothes and I know what I like for my hair but I’m a total loss when it comes to cosmetics. I wandered into Sephora for the first time (Thank you, Gannon!) when I went to Atlanta last fall for Moonlight & Magnolias and had a wonderful experience. I met a very nice young man who was low-key, skilled and fun to work with. I popped into a Sephora in Charlotte a couple months ago and had a similarly positive experience. They are now my store of choice for cosmetics.
What Not to Wear is a wonderful show and Stacy and Clinton are terrific. I’d love to have them outfit me.
Ellen on 05 Aug 2009 at 3:09 pm #
Oh Karen…you just made my day and my weekend! I can’t wait to pick up your newest. Good luck and stop worrying! You are a best selling author who has NEVER disappointed her fans.
Jamie…I do the SAME THING. I carry my weight right in the belly so I’ve had quite a few “When’s the baby coming,” moments. The last time I said, “I don’t know, but I have been pregnant for 15 years!” And get this….When I was just two months pregnant, a woman called out to me, “Any day now.”
Danielle Cotton on 05 Aug 2009 at 5:19 pm #
I went looking today and couldn’t find the new book. I am on the prowl though!
Janae on 05 Aug 2009 at 5:28 pm #
Karen R – What Not To Wear is on TLC. Like Claudia said Stacy and Clinton dress men and women in all shapes and sizes. They even have a book out there on how to dress your best.
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 5:50 pm #
Janae and Claudia, thanks for the info on Stacy and CLinton – I’ll find out when it’s on here.
Ellen – thank you! Need all the good vibes I can get on release day! (Family will thank you too. Everyone gives me kind of a wide berth on release day, LOL.)
PJ – the store I went to was Sephora. I enjoyed the experience and they have a lot of stuff there. The woman said that their store in NYC is three stories! I think that is a must-see stop next time I go to NYC with my pals.
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 5:51 pm #
JudyF – hold on to that mechanic, honey! That’s gold. There have been makeovers where I feel like I have to scrape the goo off my face, too. I like it when I feel like I have nothing on my face and this time, when I left Sephora, I did
Karen Rose on 05 Aug 2009 at 5:53 pm #
Yikes, Jamie. Well, I’ve never done THAT at a store! I’ll have to remember to watch what I say, because I have said in the past, “I know this isn’t you.” When that line pops into my head, I’ll have to replace it with, “Who can I call?”
Thanks to everybody who’s gonna go out and get I CAN SEE YOU! Keep sending the good vibes my way!
PJ on 05 Aug 2009 at 6:35 pm #
Oops! I forgot to congratulate you on the release, Karen! I hope the books fly off the shelves. I’ll be stopping by the store tomorrow!

Ms. Rose,
<>
Yes.
I was at the end with the elevators letting all the authors through so that they didn’t have to go through the crowds at the entrance — if you remember me I’m right well pleased. I was wearing a blue and white polka-dot dress.
<>
That’s very sweet! My daughter is 6 (and a half, have to add that!) and whenever I get dressed up, she has to wear some make-up, too.
<>
Definitely. It’s our job to embarrass our children!
