Turkey coma

I don’t know about you all, but I am in a food coma. I promised myself that I wouldn’t over eat, but as I sit here and write, I can actually feel my butt getting bigger from all the pie with extra whipped cream. I thought about maybe exercising, but then I ran across the following articles and am rethinking the pros and cons of shedding a few.
A 38-year-old woman described as “very large,” using the “abductor” thigh-tightening machine at the New York Sports Club in Harlem in July, failed to dismount properly, according to a witness, and was “sling-shot” off, across the room, startling other gym users. Paramedics had to use a “Stokes basket” instead of a regular stretcher to carry her out, according to the New York Post.
Clair Robinson, 23, told an interviewer in September that she believes the only reason she survived the deadly flesh-eating infection recently was because she had too much weight for the bacteria to consume. “Being big saved my life,” she told Australia’s “Medical Emergency” TV show.
Though Mayra Rosales, 27, stands charged with capital murder in Hidalgo County, Texas, she was not ordered to jail pending trial but was allowed home detention because of her obesity. At about 1,000 pounds, Rosales requires special transportation and facilities and was ruled by a judge in August certainly to be no “flight risk.”
How about all of you? Did you over indulge? Are you hitting the treadmill today or are you out risking life and limb on Black Friday?

no one has posted yet? they are ALL in Turkey Dinner Comas!
lol
There was a Kohl’s shoe store ad last night that said it’s doors were opening at 4am. FOUR AM??!!
wow.
that is early to shop!

We don’t really have a Black Friday day here.
There is usually madness in the stores the first shopping day after Christmas though.

What I’m looking forward to seeing today is Cail’s new short hair!

Kathy, I saw an ad for outlet mall in suburban Chicago having a midnight pajama blowout. Who the hell needs new crap at midnight that couldn’t get at 10 am?
We did Thanksgiving at a restaurant so there was forced portion control. It was nice not to be sick at the end of the day.
Rachel, thanks for being our own private clipping service for the World Weekly News - all the salacious stuff without having to buy it.

This Thanksgiving I did pretty well until that small piece of pie put me over the edge. I do not indulge in Black Friday. I hate crowded stores, and I never would have been able to stay awake for our outlet mall’s midnight sale.

Oh my goodness, I definitely overindulged, and it was glorious. I will not be exercising or shopping today, though. I will be washing clothes and doing homework: finishing up my honors thesis, writing a ten-page research paper, writing a newspaper article, writing a prospectus for a final project in Medieval lit–we can do whatever we want, and because I don’t really care about Medieval Lit, I have no idea what I want to do. Anyone have any ideas? Lol, just kidding.
I hope everyone else had a lovely Thanksgiving!

Happy Day After everyone!
No food coma here. We ate at a restaurant yesterday. It was buffet-style, but the line was so long that there was no way any of us was going back for seconds! The big thrill of the meal for me was a delicious crumb-topped apple pie for dessert!
No shopping for me today. I’m taking Mom for her dialysis, so I’ll be hanging out in the waiting room, trying to ignore the obnoxious big screen TV, and reading romance novels on my Kindle!
P.S. I’m still giggling thinking about the poor woman who got sling-shot from the thigh machine!

I really ate more then I should have yesterday but everything was so good. No shopping for me today. Bad enough I have to work at the bookstore tonight. I dread it, mostly the leaving early from home to find a parking spot. LOL

Not so much a food coma here, just tired from cooking. I am still a little tired from the walk and all day on my feet sucked all the energy out of me. It was all super yummy (if I say so myself. ha!)
Today, there will be no shopping, only pampering. I am headed out to get a pedicure for the first time in like 5 months and have them belt sand all the callouses off I had to build up for the walk, then my friend is treating me to a massage at a spa. I am very excited
Then the rest of the weekend is crafting, lounging and maybe some decorating… the only shopping occurring online where the crowds and insanity are comprised of my cat and my goldfish

Sheridan, good for you! Hope you have a relaxing day.

Rachel, where did you get the photo of my butt? It’s embarassing to see it up there. I gained three pounds yesterday, I’m certain I didn’t consume three pounds of food, but there you have it.
No shopping today. My hubby had to work and I didn’t want to bring my three year old out on BLack FRiday.

Fresh, there is a store around here that wanted people to show up in their pajamas.
I was pretty good yesterday, but not great.
I was going to wog this morning, but its raining. I am dressed for the elliptical. Just as soon as I quit screwing around on the internet.

I was so good yesterday, really and truly, but I woke up this AM and my face was fatter. No kidding. I lost my jawline sometime between 11PM and 8AM. I don’t think there are any calories in a pillow, but I’m not going to swear to it.

Rachel….Do you write for the Weekly World News ???
I LOVE your books ! Never stop writing !!!

Susan,
I would LOVE to write for the Weekly World News. It would pretty much be my dream job.
I am finally awake after the turkey coma. My cousin tried to convince me that black Friday was a lot of fun. Personally, I’ve never wanted anything that bad. I hate lines and crowds and people breathing my air.

Rachel–How is it that she comitted murder for that last story?
i am not going anywhere near the mall today. I just want to go home and curl up in bed. I’ve been sick with the flu this past week. I ate Thanksgiving dinner but can honestly say I didnt over indulge since I didnt eat very much. I did have German chocolate pie from Marie callender’s this morning for breakfast.
Kari on 28 Nov 2008 at 1:04 pm #
LOL love those stories!!!
I totally didn’t over eat. I am so proud of myself. I think it had to do with smelling the foods cook all morning that filled my belly. By time we sat down to eat my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I had no appetite. Although I did manage to scarf down a dutch apple pie slice that was drizzled with carmel and topped with ReadyWhip. It was yummy and I have no regrets about it.
I do believe that I will be hitting the gym next week to take care of some extra pounds that have been lingering long before this Thanksgiving. Probable from last Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The only thing black for me on this Friday was the back of my eyelids as I got to sleep in a little. It felt great. My neighbor confirmed the news that it was crazy at the stores. No thanks!! I’ve been watching Forensic Files for the last few hours on TruTv.
I hope everyone had a happy and safe day yesterday. And today if you are venturing out to the malls and such.

I am thankful for 2 things, that I don’t live in New York where Wal-Mart workers get trampled and killed when customers break down the doors on Black Friday, and that I don’t go shopping on Black Friday. I just read an news article about a 34 year old worker at Wal-Mart who died in the crush this morning.
Here is the link if you wish to read it yourself. No Bargain is worth this.

I’m happy to be among the Black Friday non-shoppers. I am pretty much a non-shopper any day. But today sound more like torture than fun. One granddaughter worked at Calvin Klein out at one our famous outlet malls last year. She worked from Thurs midnight to 6am Fri. morning. And she was never alone. The joint was jumping. I thought the store was depressing. Not a speck of color. Black, gray and white. Ugh. I did get a CK purse for Christmas. Unfortunately, I like the $12 Walmart ones best.
I’ve mentioned my daddy before. I subscribe to his how many in line is too long a wait. Answer is more than 3. Actually, his was 2, but I’m more patient.
I do nearly all my shopping on the Internet. No crowds. No rude people. No stampedes or fighting over the latest gizmo/gadget. Nothing is worth all that to me.
Margaret on 28 Nov 2008 at 3:01 pm #
Oh yes. I don’t think I over indulged yesterday. One helping of each thing. Except for 2 small pieces of pumpkin pie while we were watching “Kung Fu Panda”. Which I didn’t care for a lot. The movie. Not the pie. I slept thru most of it. My daughter finally went to her room to take a nap. She said my snoring was making her sleepy. LOL Olivia swore it was a gentle snore. Uh huh.
And, other than a small salad about half-time of the Eagles game, that was my only meal yesterday.
I tell you, goddesses, if the Eagles should get to the Super Bowl and win, the people of Philadelphia would go insane. Super Bowl & World Series in one year? They wouldn’t know how to act.

My daughter and I were so exhausted after cooking yesterday, and perhaps the wine we’d consumed while preparing the food, we didn’t even finish what was on our plates. I just ate a modest dish of leftovers and feel quite satisfied. It’s back to my meal plan tomorrow.
Meredith and her best friend were at Toy’s R Us at 5 AM this morning. You couldn’t drag me there if they were giving the toys away. I managed to get the girls’ Cabbage Patch dolls at midnight when no one was in the store and they were refreshing the shelves. I’m a night person at heart; generally there are no crowds.
Like Margaret, I’m an Internet shopper.

You couldn’t pay me to go out in that madness today!!
And yes, I’m still in a turkey coma. Even worse, we’re supposed to go over to some more friends’ house tonight to eat turkey leftovers. And we have our own turkey to bake this weekend. I’m never going to recover.
Where do you find all those wild stories, Rachel???!!!

I ate a little too much but not a LOT too much. After we got home we didn’t know if we were hungry or not so we just made a half pot of coffee and fell asleep in front of the computer.
I only made one quick trip to two Walmarts to pick up a couple of gift on ad. Found one and will look for the other one later. We had to return our rental car, much saddness. We really love that car!
Now we are starting the Christmas decorating. We are going to be putting up our forest of trees in the front yard again this year. We added about five trees to our collection.

I almost feel un-American not shopping, today. I just couldn’t drag myself out of bed. Last night, our daughter had another night terror just as I was going to sleep. I really didn’t need to dray myself out of bed since most of our Christmas shopping is finished. I’ve already sent my Christmas presents to MT earlier this week.
And no, I didn’t over indulge. I actually worked out, yesterday, but not today. Maybe I will tomorrow.

I did pretty good with not overindulging in the Thanksgiving feast yesterday. We all did a family 5K walk/run today to make up for all the pie consumed though. Tomorrow it is off to my home town for my families Thanksgiving meal. It’s getting to be too much. I almost can’t wait for Monday, when my life will return to normal. I did venture out this morning, but not until 8AM and then only for 2 hours. I’m not aggressive enough for these door buster sales. I’d probably be the one to be killed in the mad rush at 4AM. Now it’s time to shower and then off to work.

I don’t ‘do’ Black Friday. I don’t like crowds and if people push, I tend to push back, which could lead to ‘an incident’ — it comes from being in a large family.
I’m a professional internet shopper, though. Some people shop ’til they drop and I shop ’til my connection times out. Much easier on the pedicure.
Btw, did you guys see where some guy was crushed to death at a Walmart’s Black Friday store in New Jersey? Heavens to Betsy, but it’s a jungle out there. That’s so very, very sad for that family.
Thank goodness they don’t storm amazon.com or I’d be in serious trouble.
And yes, I ate yesterday, but no, I didn’t overeat, though I did the day before. And yes, I took a walk, but no thigh master, although if I’d known they were such fun, I might have splurged.

Couldn’t overeat and couldn’t leave the house to go to Black Friday. I try to avoid Black Friday, but when my family is here, it’s their favorite thing to do. This year no family, however, since we’re all doing our own thing. The big excitement was a conference call between me and my 3 siblings (my brother has an Iphone, and apparently you can do that on it). We had a blast! We couldn’t include Mom and Dad, though, since they were stuck in a hotel in Tokyo on their way to Thailand. The Thai airport was closed, so they ended up coming back home.
Anyway, we had nothing remotely Thanksgiving-like at my house, since my son doesn’t eat “regular” food and I couldn’t eat regular food. So any meal I made would have just been for hubby, and I wasn’t up for it. Plus, he said he didn’t care.
But Tuesday I advance to soft foods, thank God. It’ll be nice to get more back to more normal eating. This every 15 minute thing is driving me nuts.

I wish I had been in a turkey coma today.
I ended up being in a weird funk and read and slept all day.
maybe like sympathy labour, I had sympathy coma?
lol

I worked my shift 5-9 pm at the bookstore. It wasn’t bad at all. The worst was finding a parkins spot and I lucked out on that. Found one mid way to the door.
Only had a couple of people I wanted to harm so that was good.
I shopped before I had to start to work and only one store was really busy. Lucked out there too when I was ready to check out there was no one in line.
I am ready to go to bed now. Staying in tomorow.

I only stopped one place and that was for work.
Work had coupons for JoAnn Fabric so I hunted items for our Christmas Potluck.
It was not too bad when I went in at approximately 8:40 am.
By the time I found the few things I wanted, the check-out line was in an L shape half way to the back of the store.
When I got to the short part of the L, the line went to the back of the store.
From the time I got into the line until I was checked out was slightly over 30 minutes.

OK, I’m a day late and in the minority here. I love Black Friday! Daughter #2 and I go out every year. We plan our attack after Thanksgiving dinner with the ads spread out over the table. We’d make any military planner proud.
We hit Kohls at 4 a.m.. The secret to our fun is not to go right as the doors are opening, miss the initial crush, safer too. One stands in the line while the other gets the items, then switch. It does put you in the holiday spirit as we have met some terrific people in line. We even saw some lady friends who shop together in Santa Hats and serenade the check out person with Christmas Carols.
It’s not just presents we get. There are some great prices out there on household items this time of year.
We also went out to breakfast and then continued shopping. 8 hours total. Then I went to work for the evening. It was a fabulous fun day!
