Happy Turkey Day!

Thanksgiving Day has always been one of my favorite holidays because I get to celebrate the three F’s… Family, Friends, and Food. Especially the Food. It’s one of the few times I stuff myself guilt-free!

And maybe I appreciate it more since, in one of my former lives as a project engineer, I always missed Thanksgiving because I had to work. (Holidays were the only time the plant shut down in order to do big installations and repairs.)

Unless you’re a turkey, Thanksgiving can be a special day. So in the spirit of the season, I thought I would leave you with some rather irreverent words of wisdom about T-day that were printed in my local newspaper yesterday:

“What we’re really talking about is a wonderful day set aside on the fourth Thursday of November when no one diets. I mean, why else would they call it Thanksgiving?” – Erma Bombeck

“My mother is such a lousy cook that Thanksgiving at her house is a time of sorrow.” – Rita Rudner

“An optimist is a person who starts a new diet on Thanksgiving Day.” – Irv Kupcinet

“I love Thanksgiving turkey… it’s the only time in Los Angeles that you see natural breasts.” – Arnold Schwarzenegger

“Thanksgiving, man! Not a good day to be my pants.” – Kevin James

And lastly, one not so irreverent quote:

“Forever on Thanksgiving Day; The heart will find the pathway home.” – Wilbur D. Nesbit

Here’s wishing you and your loved ones at home and abroad a safe, happy Thanksgiving Day!!

Any plans for today? Anything you’re especially thankful for this year? Any special wishes you’d like to offer your fellow goddesses and/or anyone else?

Happy T-Day to all the goddesses!
I wish everyone gets everything they need and want.
We are going to Portland to spend the day with my son and his family. My DIL just called to say she was so excited and could we show up around 6am?
That was a no, it is a two hour drive from Eugene. We rented a PT Cruiser for the trip, no way am I taking that POS of ours on a road trip! The PT Cruiser is so much fun!! We love it!
I am so very thankful that I have one of my sons nearby and that I can honestly love his choice of mate. And they made two of the cutest little terrorist in pink.
I am also thankful for my sister, she is the best friend I have ever had and I love being around her. I feel blessed to have her grandsons with us and I’m so very happy that we never have to give them back. They played Autzen Stadium on Saturday. Youngest lost but the oldest won, 4 out of the 5 TDs were his. The youngest did win the punt and pass competition and his trophies are coming soon.

    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!!

I am thankful for so much. The house over my head, my job, my friends and most of all my family. Life would be so borning and incomplete without them.

Dinner will be at our house today, relatively small with only 8 people, 3 of which are children 5 and under. I guess that means more leftovers!!! I put the turkey in about 30 minutes ago so the countdown begins.

I love Kevin James’ quote!! That is great!

To all you Goddesses out there, have a safe, happy and filling Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it!
I’ve already had my Turkey day back in October.

Another large turkey dinner awaits on Christmas Day, which begs the question: What do you usually eat on Christmas Day?
We’ve always done turkey, it’s tradition on Canada, but I see so many cookbooks from the States that have goose or roast beef.
    I’ve often wondered.

Ah, Thanksgiving. Lots to be thankful for including the fact that my friend vacationing in India wasn’t in Mumbai yesterday. Thankful that I’ll spend the day with my immediate family instead of the extended version for my last Thanksgiving while I live near them.

Hope you all enjoy the Macy’s parade - please make it worth the traffic chaos the balloon blow up caused yesterday.

Saw a Native American colleague yesterday and go figure, he won’t be celebrating the day. Couldn’t tell if that was a NA thing or a transplanted to New York thing.

Finally, thank you Goddess for the blogging and the writing and for meeting your deadlines despite all our attempts distractions.

happy thanksgiving everyone!! i’m at my parent’s house with 14 of my dad’s relatives. the dh is still sleeping and i’m playing with the 7 yr old. i’m looking forward to turkey and mushroom stuffing!!

  8. Margaret on 27 Nov 2008 at 8:32 am #

I hope you each and every one enjoy the day. Even the ones across the ocean and the Canadians who’ve already had 1 Thanksgiving this year. I’m willing to share.
It’s very small for us. My DD, her DD’s and me. Our big family do is Christmas. Fine with me. Since DD is working till 1pm, the girls and I are cooking. I have a turkey breast in the oven now. I’ll slice it here and the ham, wrap them up, re-heat them there and dine in style.
I’m thankful to be alive. Thru good and bad, it’s still a fine thing. I’m thankful to have so many family members living nearby. I’m thankful I once met a guy on an airplane and he had 5 kids to my 2. Thankful I had him for 19 years. Thankful I stumbled across TGB and found a great sisterhood here. Grateful that so many people with so much talent are willing to put up with my drivel.
Thankful for my little brown house & being able to read. TG for libraries & book stores. And writers, of course.
    HAPPY THANKSGIVING, GODDESSES!!!

I’m thankful to have you all! You ALWAYS make my day better.

We’re headed to friends for dinner late this afternoon, but we’ll be cooking our own turkey tomorrow cause I love leftovers!

And I love your good wishes and your touching comments about the day.

KathyCD, we usually have turkey for Christmas, ham for New Year’s. I keep forgetting you live north of our border. I’ve never cooked a goose, at least not a real one compared to a figurative one. *s*

    Be safe and happy, everyone!

    Happy Thanksgiving All!

I am thankful for my DH of 25 years, my 4 children, and my granddaughter. I am also thankful for my mother and brothers and their families. But most of all I am thankful for the time I have been able to spend writing over the past year.

I’m thankful for my DH, 3 children, family and friends. My sister and two nieces will be coming over later, and we will eat drink and be merry. Yummmmm!

And I’m thankful for each and every one of you. The Goddess Blogs is one of my fave sites and never fails to put a smile on my face. I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Happy Thanksgiving Ladies! I am thankful for each of you, you make me smile everyday.

I am so thankful for my family. A husband and three healthy children. No matter what else, I feel as long as I have them, I have it all.

Hoping everyone has a wonderful day.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I am thankful for the laughter and joy you each bring to my day.

Going over my brothers later. My SIL goes way overboard on the food. Its going to be different this year since my dad is in a nursing home and unable to go. But on the plus side I am so thankfull we have him in a place that my worry level has dropped to a manageable level. He is so well liked and cared for there and I couldn’t be more happy for that.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

A bit of Thanksgiving trivia. Did you know that the 4th Thursday as the official Thanksgiving Day has only been in existence since FDR made it so in 1939. 2 years later, Congress made it official. Yet, I was born in 1938 and remember we celebrated Thanksgiving on the last Thursday of the month. I watched an interesting show on History Channel last night. This clip was part of it. And Thanksgiving hasn’t always been held every year thruout our history.

My turkey and ham are smelling pretty darned good right now.

I’m thankful for all of YOU, because you always brighten my day! Everyone have a good Thanksgiving! All we’re doing is going to a movie to entertain my son. Otherwise, it’s going to be a boring Thanksgiving THIS year!

  21. Freshechelle on 27 Nov 2008 at 12:42 pm #

Some misc goddess housekeeping - Karen H - loving your new book, you do a nice contemporary! Reading it slowly to make it last. Nicely worked in the Camaro into the book which makes me smirk.

Where’s Karen Rose been? Should we be worried about her or did I miss a posting from her that she’d be out of the loop for a bit?

  22. Yasmin on 27 Nov 2008 at 1:12 pm #

My brother and dad just got here. So that makes 6 for dinner tonight. It wont be that lonely this year. It going to be a gloomy Thanksgiving this year. It is sooo cold and fog so dense I even see to the end of the driveway.

  23. JudyPatooty on 27 Nov 2008 at 1:19 pm #

Happy Thanksgiving all you wonderful goddesses!

I just got back from having Thanksgiving lunch with my mother and her friend. So I’m pleasantly stuffed with turkey and dressing (and apple pie for dessert)!

I hope everyone has a happy day today (and everyday!) :)

  24. Lisa H on 27 Nov 2008 at 1:38 pm #

twenty guests will be here in two hours. I need to shower and finish the last of the cooking. Have a great day, all!

  25. Janae on 27 Nov 2008 at 2:30 pm #

    Happy Thanksgiving ladies!!!

This year is the 4 of us, plus my brother and his wife (I need to call him to see when they’re going to be arriving because he’s a bit flakey.).

I’m thankful my family, dh’s job, and good books. Karen H, I loved TOTT. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard while reading a romance novel. At least two of my rl friends have picked up TOTT after I recommended it to them.

  26. Nicole Jordan on 27 Nov 2008 at 2:48 pm #

    Fun link, Margaret!

And Yasmin, I’m glad you’ll have family to be with later! Sorry you had to work today, but you’re not alone. I’m working until 4 pm since once again I’m behind on a deadline (what else is new *G*)

Amy, I hope you survive the 39 adults and 5 kids!!!

The rest of you are making me smile and think warm thoughts. Some of you are also making me darn hungry!!!

  27. Kim on 27 Nov 2008 at 3:34 pm #

Freshelle–Karen R is fine just in the cave working on revisions. She should be done soon and back playing with us.

Happy T-Day, m’dears! I’m stuffed like the turkey (was) and sitting with my honey at my ‘rent’s house, watching tv and talking. It was a lovely, lovely day.

I’m thankful for so much — for you guys — you always start my day with a smile; for my family because they are the foundation for everything I am and do; and for this wonderful career that lets me send my kids to college and hang with such positive, lovely people like those here on the Mt.

    Happy Thanksgiving Day all!

  33. evlqn on 27 Nov 2008 at 11:23 pm #

Back at home, the trip to Portland became a trip to Vancouver,Wa. The sister’s larger house turned out to be larger in another state. Oh well, it was still fun with much food and many pictures.
And a Happy T-day call from our mom in MN and my son in New Orleans. A very good day.

  34. Nicole Jordan on 28 Nov 2008 at 12:15 am #

Our friends turned out to be gourmet cooks so I stuffed myself even more than expected. And some other friends invited us over for turkey leftovers tomorrow, so I’m gonna end up 5 pounds heavier next week. But it was worth it.

Glad you’re back home safely, evlqn!

And Yaya, hope your pies are great. You’ve obviously earned them!
