Behind the Scenes of As Mt. Oly Turns…

Otherwise known as A Day in the Life of Handmaiden Kim.

Hey everyone! One of the cool perks of my job as Handmaiden is that I can hijack the blog from our lovely Goddesses. Since most of the Goddesses are off enjoying the lovely Mt. Oly weather, I thought I’d come out today and give you a little peek at the inner workings of the Mt.

First off, to answer a much asked question. Everyone always wants to know “How did you get to be a handmaiden and how can I get that gig?” Well, there is actually a Handmaiden Degree. It takes several years of study and at least two years of internship. (And oh, the poor interns over at Zeus’s. They’ve got it rough!) While I broke the curve in my Pampering Class, I had to get a tutor for FROS Research 101. Really, it’s not as easy as it looks.

So, here’s a look at my average day with the Goddesses:

7:00am Caller ID shows it’s Claudia. “Kim, help! I can’t find the color coded file folders we just bought.”

“No worries, Claudia. I’ve got your back up stash right here. I’ll send them now.”

“Thanks, Kim! You’re the best.”

7:15am Stop by Suzanne’s temple. “Suzie, its after 7. Get up. You have an appointment with your agent today.”

“Luke? Luke, I’m your father.”

SUZIE! Get up!”

7:30am Grab the unicorn to drop Karen Hawkins off at her coffee shop.

“Remember you have to send in the synopsis to your editor by noon. Don’t forget.”

“Thanks, Kim. You’re the best!”

8:00am Stop by Suzanne’s temple “SUZIE!”

“Capt. Jack, is that you?”

SUZIE!”

“I’m up. I’m up! Thanks, Kim! You’re the best.”

8:10am Cell phone rings and it’s Rachel. “Kim, what is the quantum theory for a hockey puck sailing through the air?”

“E=mc2, Rachel. Don’t forget you have a book signing tonight at 6.”

“Thanks, Kim! You’re the best.”

8:30am Stop by Julia’s temple. “Here’s your plate of brownies. Now finish that book. Your editor needs it by tomorrow.”

“I just got back from my wog. Will you rub my feet? Puuuhhhlease?”

“All right but just for a minute.”

“Thanks, Kim! You’re the best.”

10:00am Hugh, the temple slave, knocks on my office door. “Karen Rose requested you. She said to bring 2 gallons of ketchup.”

10:24am Arrive at Karen Rose’s temple. “This much ketchup? I thought you weren’t eating French fries anymore.”

“No fries. I’m researching how large a pool of blood would be if someone were beheaded. Lay on that slab over there, okay?”

“Don’t they have dummies for this?”

“Sure, sure. (With a pointed look at me.) Now head to that slab. Thanks, Kim! You’re the best.”

11:47am Stop by Sabrina’s temple to drop off her copy edits. “Kim! Just in time. Here, take Jane and stand over there. Jane’s going hang gliding. Up a little higher. Hold that for a few minutes while I set up the camera.”

12:39pm Turn off the cell phone and sneak away for lunch with Hugh. ;)

2:00pm Return from lunch. (Sure, it was a long lunch but a handmaiden’s got to have some perks, right?)

2:05pm Cell rings and it’s Nicole. “Kim! Where have you been? My arcs just arrived. Here’s yours!”

2:30pm Email from Karen Hawkins. “Pick a FROS! I can’t decide.”

9pm Lights out on the Mt. “Good night, Rachel.” “Good night, Sabrina.” “Good night, John boy.” (Oops! Sorry, wrong show)

Okay, so maybe this isn’t an actual account of my day but the fun and the awesome Goddesses are real! This week celebrates my one year anniversary with the Goddesses and the opening of the Forum. I couldn’t ask for a better group than these eight wonderful authors and the incredible community they’ve built. It’s an honor and a privilege to be Handmaiden!

So, tell me, what’s your favorite part of your job?

AND make sure to head over to the Forum where we’ve got an Anniversary Party going in full swing. There are awesome prizes to be had. Speaking of prizes! One commenter today will win some goodies I brought back from the RWA conference!

Oh Haidmaiden Kim you are so lucky to have the best of all jobs!
I have had many jobs over the years ,some better than others, some just because I needed a job and it was available. But the very best job I ever had outside of parenthood was working in a bookstore.
I can’t say I had a favorite part because everything about it was perfect for me. I got to be around books and get paid for it. I was around others who thought the written word was a wonderful gift to be savored and shared. I got to order the stock and display it. I trained the new employees and scheduled work shifts, did the banking. And best of all I got to help my customers find the books that they needed. There wasn’t any part of that job I didn’t love beyond the telling. And I got a 35% discount on all my books!

Kim – I know you are the best Handmaiden in the world! It must be exhausting over there in Mt. Oly, but if anyone is up to the task you are. If you need an assistant handmaiden… well you know my phone number.

  3. Judy F on 16 Oct 2008 at 6:26 am #

Kim I wanna be you… LOl

Not sure what is a good part about my job. Quitting time??? LOL

This week is a bad week to ask me. Boss in a MOOD and statements went out so people are cranky on the phone.

I will have to try to get into the forum, it doesn’t like me for some reason.

  4. Kim on 16 Oct 2008 at 6:38 am #

    Gooood mornin’ Goddesses!

I have to give a big Mt Oly shout out to Goddess Julia. She’s the “photog” responsible for my great pics ;) Thanks Julia!

evlqn–That does sound like an awesome job!

    Marisa–LOL! Will do.

Judy F–Quitting time counts! I’ve had those jobs too. If you need any help getting into the forum email me and I’ll try to troubleshoot for you.

  5. cail on 16 Oct 2008 at 6:39 am #

Kim, you really do have the best job ever!!!

I’d say the best part about my job is the little love notes that the students write to me. My fridge is covered in them. That and the fact that I’m done by 3:30pm.

  6. PJ on 16 Oct 2008 at 6:45 am #

Any job that includes a 90 minute lunch with Hugh is a job worth savoring! :)
You’re an awesome handmaiden, Kim. Keep up the good work!

I don’t have a paying job at the moment but I love my volunteer job at the hospital because I enjoy interacting with the public and I really do feel like I’m making a positive difference in people’s lives, even on those days when it’s nothing more than a smile and a hug.

  7. Courtney Milan on 16 Oct 2008 at 7:33 am #

    Kim,

You are so hilarious! But I want to know–how large *is* the pool of blood when someone is beheaded?

  8. Kathy/Cookie on 16 Oct 2008 at 7:34 am #

Well, I just started a new job as a home support worker. so far the traveling around meeting new people is pretty fun, but tiring.
love the time schedule you keep Kim!
    sounds like fun!

  9. Margaret on 16 Oct 2008 at 7:42 am #

The goddesses are right, Kim. You are the best! You deserve a long lunch with Hugh and/or anybody else you want. It must be very tiring trying to keep them all in line each day. How ever did they manage before you came along?

I need to get over to the forum and party. I could use it. My daughter spent a few eternities in the ER Sunday. Followed by surgery on Tuesday. Now, dear Kim, I need you to stop by her house and crack the whip on her. She thinks she’s Superwoman and was going back to work today. She won’t listen to her mom.

Thanks, Kim. You are the best.

  10. Laura on 16 Oct 2008 at 7:56 am #

My favorite part of my job is the downtime where I search the web! Like right now, I’m at work, reading your fine blog after seeing the thread about it on the EJ/JQ BB….

    ;-)

  11. Kari on 16 Oct 2008 at 8:10 am #

    Kathy-Congrats on the new job!

(((((((KIM)))))))) You have the best job and you are wonderful at it.

The best part of my job is that I get to work at home. I don’t have my boss breathing down my neck all day so I have a little wiggle room on my down time. That’s not to say that I don’t need him breathing down my neck from time to time, cause sometimes I do.
I also like it that I am home when my son gets home from school.

I’d like to take a moment to gloat. My son read his frist book last night. All by himself. Mind you it was only 6 pages long, filled with sight words and about a dog named Biscuit, BUT he did it all on his own. I cried while he ran down the hall to read it to his dad.
    I’m done gloating now.

:) Thanks, Kim and Goddesses, for everything you do!!!

  12. Kasey on 16 Oct 2008 at 8:29 am #

Kim – that sounds like a really cool day. Especially the lunch with Hugh part.

I think the best part of the job I have right now is I get almost a month off for Christmas and Summer Vacationl. I do have some good teaching days too, but I really loathe grading papers.

  13. Sara Lindsey on 16 Oct 2008 at 8:37 am #

    Kim, you ARE the best!
The best part of my job… being able to count every romance novel and research book I buy as a tax write-off!

  14. Santa on 16 Oct 2008 at 8:40 am #

Kim, you lucky duck! Great gig you got going there and those goddesses are darn lucky to have you, as I am sure they let you know on a regular basis because that’s how they roll.

I’ll pop by the forum later. My work is never done as a Deli Diva. The best part of my job – keeping my deli thugs in line. Working with men all day can make a Deli Diva cranky at times. I swear testostrone overload closely resembles PMS on its worst day but they make me laugh, so it all evens out.

    LYG, darlin’!

  15. Karen Rose on 16 Oct 2008 at 8:57 am #

Kim!!! SO FUNNY!!! Well done and mostly factual, I have to say.

Well, there is an average of 6 quarts of blood in the human body. That’s 1.5 gallons or for y’all metric folk, around 6 litres. I think the amount lost would depend on the position of the body at the time. Anyone wanting to help me research, send your resume to Handmaiden Kim.

Oh, and Kim, when you have time, stop by my place. I want to see if a person can actually be … no, wait, that’s confidential information. Just come and be prepared to scream. Martinis will be served on the lanai afterward.

  16. Sabrina Jeffries on 16 Oct 2008 at 8:59 am #

Kim! You. Are. the. Best. Seriously.

Lol! That was so cute! Hmm, Jane goes hang gliding … that’s a thought.

Oh, and how come YOU get to lunch with Hugh and none of the rest of us do? No fair!

Seriously, great blog. We’re delighted that you came to Mt. Oly.

  17. Janga on 16 Oct 2008 at 9:01 am #

Kim, I know that you are a superlative handmaiden because you are tops at whatever you do.

I want a job that gives me 35% discount on the books I buy. :(

The thing I like best about my job is all the cool things I discover. This week my research led me to a book about women musicians in the big band era who disguised themselves as men because it was the only way they could get a job in a band. Fascinating stuff. (But I still want that book discount.)

  18. Kim on 16 Oct 2008 at 9:01 am #

Cail–awww! That would be an awesome perk. Everybody likes to get love notes:D

PJ–I know what you do at the hospital makes a huge difference to them. You have so much kindness and love to share. Your supply is endless.

    Courtney–Hey! About 2 ft in diameter ;)

    Kathy–congrats on the new job!!

Margaret–I hope your daughter is doing better.

Hey Laura! Great to see you partying with the Goddesses!

Kari–That’s awesome! Not only is your son super cute–he’s super smart! Obviously he takes after his momma ;)

Kasey–long vacations sound great. The Handmaiden union hasn’t made that part of our contract. Yet ;)

Pixie!! LOL. You’re right. That’s an excellent perk ;)

awww, my Deli Diva. You slap those thugs around. No more brie for them. Were your ears burning yesterday? J Perry and I were making plans involving you. LYG.

  19. CrysChris on 16 Oct 2008 at 9:01 am #

    Kim, you are great!

Three years ago I “retired” from my job as a Technical Writer (where the best thing was a REALLY long lunch) to be a full-time mom. I love being a stay at home mom- most days. :) I thought the best part would be the flexibility to get things done and go places during the day (what a joke that is!) but the best part is really…
You know, I sat here for awhile trying to think of the best thing about being home every day with the kids, but I can’t. Then I realized that there isn’t any one, big moment. It is more the sum of all of the little things that I wouldn’t trade for anything. According to my 3-year old, “We’re the best of friends.” I’m taking it while I can get it because I hear this won’t last long! :)

  20. Kim on 16 Oct 2008 at 9:05 am #

Okay, is anyone else scared for me due to K-Rawk’s post? Those better be some super strong martinis! LOL

Well, Sabrina, a handmaiden does have to have a few tricks up her sleeve. Right? ;) Don’t worry. I’m just training Hugh. Once he’s ready (not for a while I think) I’ll hand him over.

Janga–What a cool fact! And um, as fast as you read you need that discount. Just sayin…

  21. Louisa Cornell on 16 Oct 2008 at 9:05 am #

LOL Kim, I love your day! Do you need a personal assistant? That was definitely a long lunch. Are you sure lunch was all that was going on?

Hmm. I tend to agree that quitting time is the best part of my job. However, the tasting can be a lot of fun. Not good for my waistline, but fun. I manage a bakery in our local Wal-Mart. It can be hectic and nerve wracking and the customers can be downright rude, BUT when you do a cake that exceeds their expectations or you see the expression on a child’s face when they see that cake for the first time it is very rewarding. The entire town is STILL talking about the cake we did for the library’s 50th anniversary. The cake was an open book with characters (drawn in icing) bursting from the pages. I can’t take the credit. While I helped with the design the execution was all my 20 year old top cake decorator (whom I trained – can you tell I am proud of her?) Amanda. The cake was a work of art and even appeared in the newspaper coverage of the event.

  22. Kim on 16 Oct 2008 at 9:07 am #

So, I’ve got another question for y’all. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever had to do for work? Something that you never saw yourself doing.

  23. Karen Rose on 16 Oct 2008 at 9:11 am #

As an author, I viewed an autopsy.

As an engineer, I ate a live fish.

As a vet tech, I held a performing macaw as it CAWed its last.

Can’t wait to see what Louisa writes. It’ll have to include gurneys!

  24. J Perry Stone on 16 Oct 2008 at 9:22 am #

    Kim,

As far as I’m concerned, you possess every quality of a goddess yourself. I truly love your guts.

That said, the best part of my job is that people let me tell them I love their guts.

  25. terrio on 16 Oct 2008 at 9:22 am #

Everyone knows Kim is the BESTEST! And if they don’t, they should. What a fun day? LOL!

I like my job because it’s very laid back, I have my own office, and I don’t have to deal with the public. Perfect!

You’d think after all my years in radio I’d have some weird stories to tell. But the only thing I can think of was the time I waited tables at a little Mom & Pop breakfast place for charity. I’d never waited tables and getting there before 6am was not easy. But I had a blast and we raised lots of money!

  26. CrysChris on 16 Oct 2008 at 9:37 am #

Kim, when I was in college I worked at Wendy’s. I spent a weekend dressed as Wendy handing out balloons. Maybe not too weird, but it was sure fun for my friends and family to drop by and take pictures. My mom has LOTS of pictures.

  27. Freedom Writer on 16 Oct 2008 at 9:43 am #

Kim, you are fabulous! If you ever need a day off I will be glad to take over your duties of lunching with Hugh. I know what an arduous task that must be and I would be willing to sacrifice myself so that you could have a week or two off. Okay take a whole month. ;)

  28. Margaret on 16 Oct 2008 at 9:58 am #

KarenR, I think you might want to re-think the martinis on the lanai thing. Perhaps serve them before the experiment? More than two and make them doubles. Then she’s bound to co-operate. She won’t care how blood there is as long as you keep the booze flowing.

Kim, my daughter had a ventral hernia repair Tuesday afternoon. She had planned to attend a play if she got out in time. Har har! Full of good drugs she was. We didn’t go.

Like her daughter, she is pig-headed to the extreme. I have no idea where THEY got it from. <8-0

  29. sandy aka vfun on 16 Oct 2008 at 10:03 am #

    Hi Kim,
I love my job too…. I am a Civil Drafter. Its a great paying job. I don’t have to dress up. I wear jeans just about everyday. I run the football at my work.

  30. Yasmin on 16 Oct 2008 at 10:12 am #

Kim you ARE the Best. Any one that rides a unicorn, gives a foot massage, haves their head beheaded deserves a long lunch with Hugh Jackman.

  31. Karen Hawkins on 16 Oct 2008 at 10:23 am #

Kim, you are THE BOMB! We love you and don’t know how we’d go on without you . . . although I’m not sure how I feel about you having lunch with Hugh. He IS mine, mine, mine, after all. But then you’re such a sweetie so you DESERVE some Hugh. Guess it’s ok if you’ll drop him off at the coffee shop when you’re done so he and I can ‘latte’ our afternoon away!

That sounds naughty, doesn’t it — ‘latte.’ Heh!

Margaret, your daughter sounds very stubborn! Obviously a recessive stubborn gene popping up from somewhere wayyyy back. It’s obvious that YOU don’t have that gene!

For those of you going to The Forum for the first time, you have to register and put in your posting name and a password, even if you’re registered on the blog. They have separate logins for security purposes. The first time I went over there, I tried to log in using my name and password from the blog and it wouldn’t let me in.

I was perplexed until Kim straightened me out. (Thank you, Kim! You’re the best!)

  32. dakota cassidy on 16 Oct 2008 at 10:24 am #

LOLLOL–you da bomb, darlin’! I’d let you rub my feet any day of the week :)

    Big hugs,
    Dakota :)

  33. elsiehogarth on 16 Oct 2008 at 10:29 am #

Kim, this blog was sooooo funny. A handmaiden’s work is never done.

I’m and International Finance Analyst. What I love about it is that every day I talk to people from all around the world on a daily basis: China, Indonesia, Switzerland, Mexico, Germany etc.

Note to Karen H.: Hugh Jackman…..check out December 2008 issue of “Cowboys & Indians”-a very nice close up cover-I see a side dimple and also November 2008 “Men’s Journal”-excellent shot on a horse.

  34. Kim on 16 Oct 2008 at 10:33 am #

Louisa–*ahem* Handmaidens do not kiss and tell. Oops! Guess I told a bit there, didn’t I ;) BTW, I’d love to see pictures of that cake.

awww, J, you know I love your purty guts!

Terri–I didn’t know you had your own office. Look at you!

Crystal–I wanna see those pics! Everybody–Crystal’s a good friend of mine AND she’s going to be having a gorgeous baby girl soon.

    Freedom-aw, you’re such a giver ;)

Margaret–um, thanks for the help? OMG. I hope she’s doing better. Tell her to enjoy the morphine drip while she’s got it. Sounds like I might need one after K-Rawk is done with me. *g*

    Hey Sandy!

    Very true, Yaya, very true.

K-Hawk–I’m just training him. I promise

Hey Dakota! Y’all Dakota’s in the house. If you love paranormal’s she’s got a fabulous series starting with The Accidental Werewolf. They’re LOL funny! Girl, I’d rub your feet any day of the week ;)

  35. Yasmin on 16 Oct 2008 at 10:36 am #

I love my job. I believe that if you love your job you do better. I work at a hotel as a receptionist/concierge. I love meeting new people all the time and seeing the some come back after a year.
I see people from all over the world and talk to them about my little section. I’m a people person. Before this job, I worked at a driving school and interacted with my students. Before that I work for my high school as a tutor and during the summer with the ELD students trying to get them to pass to mainstream english. Also I worked weekends at the swapmeet with a family friend selling baby clothes and shoes. Thinking back, I really like interacting with people. I dont think i would well being stuck job where I was by myself all the time.

  36. Janae on 16 Oct 2008 at 10:42 am #

Since I’m doing the sahm gig, the best part of my job is bedtime, lol! Silence is golden. Seriously, the best part of my job is seeing my children working hard at something, and then watching them get it. I love to see their excitement. There’s nothing better than that.

  37. Julia London on 16 Oct 2008 at 10:43 am #

I’m sorry I late. I was waiting for Kim to fill my pedicure tub.

My life would totally suck without Kim — so thanks Kim, for being so good at what you do!

    Happy Anniversary, kids!

  38. Suzanne Enoch on 16 Oct 2008 at 11:11 am #

Snore, snore, “Han, you stuck up, half-witted, scruffy-lookin’ Nerf Herder!”

Oh, hey, wait, it’s after nine o’clock here! Kim, why didn’t you wake me up?

    (Thanks! You’re the best!)

  39. Laura Lee Guhrke on 16 Oct 2008 at 11:37 am #

This is not fair. I dump all my cover flats, contest stuff, Harper microsite, signing info, Facebook, My Space, and every other non-writing thing I can think of on Kim C. during my deadline hell, and this is the thanks I get? Not even a mention on her blog at Mount Olympus? I’ve been a Guest Goddess. Doesn’t that count for something around here? Sheesh.

Oh, by the way, Kim, you’re the best.

  40. cheryl c. on 16 Oct 2008 at 11:41 am #

Happy anniversary, Kim and the rest of the Goddesses! It’s hard to believe that it has only been one year!

What is the favorite part of my job! I just retired from teaching kindergarten and first grade for 30 years. The favorite part and the part I miss the most is the kids. I loved their enthusiasm and seeing that spark in their eyes when they learned something. At that young age, most of them actually like school and love their teachers. I miss those hugs!

  41. dbrown3400 on 16 Oct 2008 at 11:44 am #

Kim, you are so much fun, both here and on the Forum. You’re the best Handmaiden the Goddesses could have.

Although I’m retired now, I loved my job as network installer and trainer. Traveling across North America and meeting new people were perks I thoroughly enjoyed. My favorite stops were San Fransisco, Toronto and Newfoundland. It was hard work but the career I wanted since high school.

  42. Karen Hawkins on 16 Oct 2008 at 11:55 am #

Elsie, THANK YOU! Oh hon, I owe you MAJOR CHOCOLATE for the heads-up on the Hugh Spread! Oh my gosh, he’s SO HUNKY!

And Kim, thanks for ‘training’ him. I don’t know if he needs it, but hey, you’ve got your heart in it and that’s what counts! Kim, you’re the best!

  43. terrio on 16 Oct 2008 at 12:13 pm #

Oh, Chrys reminded me of a weird job I had. For one day when I was 17 I was the Easter Bunny! Stay with me here. LOL! A local company ran the Easter Bunny/Santa picture stuff at our local mall and the owners happened to be my aunt & uncle’s neighbors. I worked the kiddie train every holiday and one day they were hard up for someone to wear the bunny suit, so I did it.

Longest and worst day ever! That rabbit head was hot as hades and I couldn’t get over how many grown people insisted on sitting on my little lap. Gah! LOL!

  44. Deb Marlowe on 16 Oct 2008 at 12:16 pm #

    Happy Anniversary, Kim!

We sure do appreciate your efforts! Hmm, I think you should negotiate your job perks. You could take out every FROS guy on a test drive before they get posted. You know, just because you care so much!

Thanks for all that you do!

  45. Louis on 16 Oct 2008 at 12:35 pm #

    Busy, busy day you have.

When do you have time to write?

  46. Claudia Dain on 16 Oct 2008 at 12:38 pm #

Kim, you *are* the best and I’m glad you hear that enough from us. We’d fall off Mt. Oly without you.

Now, give back Hugh. If my temple’s rocking, don’t come knocking.

  47. Lisa H on 16 Oct 2008 at 12:59 pm #

Kim – I love you! Your sweet personality comes through loud and clear. You are a goddess angel and I am happy to know you!

I would love to be your assistant, except for the fact that I can’t post pictures on the forum unless you help me, and if I chose the FRO’s it would be Johnny Depp every week.

On the flip side, you could have Hugh all the time, cause I’d have Johnny, of course that wouldn’t help us get any work done, would it? :)

I am a stay at home mom and newbie romance writer. The best part of my job is kissing my little three year old whenever I want to and going on The Goddess Blogs while he naps!

    All you goddess rock!

  48. Leslie Langtry on 16 Oct 2008 at 1:26 pm #

KIM! I want brownies at 8 a.m. too!!!
Actually, I couldn’t live without you either. You are the best and I can’t believe you have time to actually phone me to remind me of stuff when you have all these superstars to help too! I’m so lucky!
And hey, see if Hugh wants to doubledate sometime with me and Gerry Butler?

    Les

  49. Anna Campbell on 16 Oct 2008 at 1:29 pm #

Hey, Kim, you ARE the best! Except when you lure Hugh to stand me up for lunch. Just not cricket, girlfriend! What’s the coolest part of my job? Nach, meeting cool chicks like you and the goddesses! Oh, and being paid for my fantasy life. That is definitely a cool part of my job. Hugh? Hugh! I said scratch my back, not rub my feet! You’ve been in a daze since you made sheep’s eyes at Kim for lunch. It’s not good enough. You KNOW Richard Armitage wants this gig. If you don’t behave, I’ll employ him as my shirtless handyman/masseur instead of you! What that man can do with a shovel should be censored!

Love the picture of you and Hugh, Kim! You lucky girl, you! ;)

My favorite part of working in a wine shop is the discount I get! Oh, did I mention we sell cheese and chocolate, too. Of course, we must sample everything, so we tell the customers all about our favorites! :)

  51. Ellen on 16 Oct 2008 at 1:32 pm #

Kim, Kim, Kim. I loved your blog today. You have always been a funny, patient and sweet addition to the Mt. It’s unfortunate that I already have a job, as I would love to tutor Hugh when he’s done “latte-ing” Karen.

  52. sandy aka vfun on 16 Oct 2008 at 1:38 pm #

    Hey Kim
you forgot a part of your day….”Fighting with Wal*Mart management stocking bestsellers a week early.

  53. Sabrina Jeffries on 16 Oct 2008 at 2:00 pm #

Anna, you keep forgetting that Richard Armitage is MINE. MINE!!!!

    Just to clarify.

  54. colinfirthfan on 16 Oct 2008 at 2:00 pm #

Best part of my job: Flexible times. :)

Off for lunch now. Haven’t read any comments as yet.

  55. Julia London on 16 Oct 2008 at 2:01 pm #

Yasmin, I always wanted to be a concierge. I think that would be fun.

I forgot to say that I love my job. Most of the time. But overall, its the best gig on the planet!

  56. Anna Campbell on 16 Oct 2008 at 2:05 pm #

Oy, you, Sabrina! I’m pretty scary in a dark alley when the wind’s blowing in the right direction. You don’t want to put out reckless challenges you can’t meet, bud! (Anna lifts arm threateningly and looks really hard for a bicep under the flab. Bicep, bicep, where are yoooooooo?)

  57. LisaK on 16 Oct 2008 at 2:11 pm #

Oh my, day’s been so stressy and I’m SO tired and I think I can’t write down anything intelligent. Sorry!
So I’ll say the first thing that comes to mind:
I’m still a student. My favourite part of it is that I’m good at it. That it’s mostly great fun. That’s it.
Nothing intelligent, I said. Just honest truth.
    And Kim, you’re HI-LA-RI-OUS!!!

  58. Julie Anne Long on 16 Oct 2008 at 2:20 pm #

Hey Cookie! Fabulous blog post! You’re a rock star — what on earth would we do without you?? You’re a positive genius at what you do, and you’ve made my life a good deal easier, I’ll say that. All hail the handmaiden. :)

  59. Kim on 16 Oct 2008 at 2:27 pm #

LOL! Oh, you guys are all so much fun. A huge thank you to making my days filled with so much happiness. I love all of you!

    Sandy–Too true!

Louis–Me, write? That would be in the 3 extra hours I add to my day courtesy of JK Rowling’s time turner ;)

LLG–I’m sorry!! Just wait till we do the Guest Goddess Gossip! You’ll get your turn then ;)

Anna and Sabrina–play nice, ladies. If y’all don’t stop fighting over RA I’m taking him back to my temple. Ha!

  60. Cassondra Murray on 16 Oct 2008 at 2:28 pm #

    Hi Kim!

    Hello Goddesses!

Actually, Kim, I think you probably qualify as a goddess yourself girlfriend, but I wouldn’t give up the handmaiden gig if Hugh is a perk.

GREAT blog girlie. I’m sitting in front of the fire at Panera and laughed out loud and everybody started turning around to look. (blush)

There is no job as good as one where you’re appreciated, and you ARE–by all of us!:0)

  61. Caren Crane on 16 Oct 2008 at 2:28 pm #

Kim, not only are you a Handmaiden, but also a Bandita Buddy. You are one busy woman! :-) We know you keep the wine flowing, the chocolate supplied and the goddesses calm so we can all enjoy the bennies of a tranquil Mt. Oly.

When do you sleep? I know the “lights out at 9 pm” thing does NOT work on Sabrina. That woman probably rouses you from a deep sleep to hold Will and Jane in compromising positions!

I have two favorite parts of my job: lunch and heading out the door for home. It’s not a bad job, but they make me stay here ALL DAY. No FROS around here, that’s for sure! Just dreadfully serious financial types. Oy.

Congrats on a great first year, goddesses, and keep Kim happy, will you?

  62. Kim on 16 Oct 2008 at 2:50 pm #

Hey JAL!! Awesome to see you on the Mt!

Woot-its the bandita brigade. You know its a par-tay now ;)

LisaK–do you need a foot rub, dear??

  63. BethW on 16 Oct 2008 at 2:55 pm #

    Thanks for the laughs, Kim!

The best part of my job – making children cry. No, really. Because I’m giving them their immunizations that could very easily save their lives. It’s a good thing, really. (Though the screaming does get tiresome on occasion).

  64. Elizabeth on 16 Oct 2008 at 3:17 pm #

I would put up with a lot to have Hugh to myself for an hour. : )

    Thanks!

  65. Paula on 16 Oct 2008 at 3:37 pm #

Kim you are amazing, you deserve to have a long lunch with Hugh!
I work as a Science Technician and the best bit about the job is seeing it from the other side from the students. I actually work at the secondary school I attended when I was 11 – 16 years.
The weirdest part of my job is going to a local farm shop to pick up ‘organs’ for disection1 K – Ro you’d love that part I know you would.

Happy Anniversary to the Forum and all the goddesses and all those who visit the forum.

  66. Paula on 16 Oct 2008 at 3:51 pm #

Kari I meant to say wow you must be soo proud of your son. I was the same when my eldest read his first book to me. My Youngest is high risk dyslexia and so finds it hard but I am soo proud of him as he reads to me as I know it takes him a lot to do it.

Kathy Congratulations on the new job.

  67. Tessa Dare on 16 Oct 2008 at 3:57 pm #

Kim, you are AMAZING! I don’t know how you do it all. I don’t even begrudge you Hugh. You’ve earned him. :)

Best part of my job? When I get caught staring into space, I can brush it off by saying, “It’s okay. I’m a writer.”

  68. Christine Wells on 16 Oct 2008 at 4:03 pm #

Hey, KimPossible, I’m LMAO at that post. You are the best!

Looks like I’m late to the party as usual–it’s tough living in Australia, but what can you do? Besides the satisfaction of finishing a book and seeing it in print, I’d say my favourite part of the job is getting to hang out with such intelligent, funny and caring people. That is a real perk of my job. As is the fact I’m sitting here, writing in my pyjamas, LOL

Congrats to you and the goddesses on a wonderful year.

    Christine xx

  69. Karen Hawkins on 16 Oct 2008 at 4:36 pm #

Kim, what’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever had to do as an official Writers’ Assistant? Besides let Karen Rose measure your blood loss, that is. :)

  70. Kim on 16 Oct 2008 at 5:29 pm #

hmm, once I had to get the rights to a song. It was really wild how much you had to do for a small clip. Before that it was learning how to use a spreadsheet. Excel is scary!

  71. AnimeJune on 16 Oct 2008 at 8:29 pm #

The favourite part of my job is that I get to handle all sorts of old and rare books – I’m a materials processing assistant for a university library. Oldest book I’ve handled to date – 1778!

  72. peggy Q on 16 Oct 2008 at 10:46 pm #

My favorite part of my job would have to be pay day.

  73. Santa on 16 Oct 2008 at 11:33 pm #

    Told you I’d be back.

Weirdest part of a job I’ve had to do….Get a hunting knife away from a juvenille I was working with. It was longer than you’re allowed to carry in NYC. The guys I worked with elected me to do it because I’d worked with violent adults in active psychosis and I knew how to do a take down and get stop someone from pulling your hair out. Fear not, I got it away without a problem while the menfolk watched from the door.

    Yup, good times. Good times.
