Movie Trivia part deux
Sep 25th 2008
Rachel GibsonOn Writing!
I think I mentioned in the past that on any given day I have random bits of dialog running through my head. I think of it as some sort of tourettes. It just pops into my head and there’s no controlling it. So, I thought I’d share some of my favorite bits with you and make it a kind of contest. I’ll send a signed copy of my last book, Not Another Bad Date, to the first person to correctly match up the random bits of dialog to the correct movie.
Who said:
1 “Some men are Baptists, others Catholics; my father was an Oldsmobile man.”
2 “Language was invented for one reason, boys–to woo women–and, in that endeavor, laziness will not do.”
3 “Silencio, old man. Look, I drank my weight in Sunny D and I gotta go pronto.”
4 “Nunchaku skills… bowhunting skills… computer hacking skills… Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills!”
5 “In this town, murder’s a form of entertainment.”
6 “I’m your boyfriend now, Nancy.”
7 “Jesus, I must be crazy to be in a loony-bin like this.”
8 “Bow to the Queen of Slime, the Queen of Filth, the Queen of Putrescence.”
9 “Of course I don’t have my underwear. I’m definitely not wearing my underwear.”
10 “Words can only hurt you if you try to read them. Don’t play their game.”

I love useless trivia like quotes from movies and stuff. It’s been a while since I’ve seen some of these movies, so this is going to require some brain power.
1) Ralphie-A Christmas Story
Old Woman-Princess Bride ( I love this movie)
2) John Keating-Dead Poets Society
3) Juno McDuff-Juno
4) Napoleon-Napoleon Dynomite (one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time by the way)
5) Mama Morton- Chicago
6) Freddy Kreuger-Nightmare on Elm Street
7)McMurphy-One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
9)Raymond-Rainman
10) Derek Zoolander-Zoolander (Also a very funny movie. I thought it was really stupid when it came out, but the more I watch it, the funnier it gets.)

I love trivia and movie quotes. It’s a game my husband and I used to play.
My sons did the entire “Badges” scene from Treasure of the Sierra Madre in the middle of the the Conestoga Mall in Grand Island, Nebraska because they saw mall security walking by with badges on their shirts. They were 8 & 10 at the time. Bob Kerrey was walking around the mall trying to get voters for his run for govenor and he stopped to watch the boys.
Anyway here goes.
1-h; 2-f; 3-d; 4-a; 5-j; 6-c; 7-g; 8-i; 9-b; 10-e.
I barely got through Nightmare on Elm St. I watched it once with my head under a blanket. I hate scary movies and books. Give me a real live dead ghost and I’m fine, put it in a movie and I’m gone. Go figure.
My sister and I are always quoting LOTR, Harry Potter, and most of the Disney and Pixar movies. And The Fugitive with Harison Ford.

I really only can get about half of them off the top of my head without thinking, and since i’m pretty sure i’m not the first i’m going to save my brain cells for my sociology exam later today. but Rachel, you quoted some of my favorites! I LOVE the princess bride, although the quote i most often think of is ‘no more rhymes now, i mean it. anybody want a peanut?”

We love Napeloen Dynamite. LOL.
I think one of my favorite quotes and it runs through my head ALL THE TIME is from Benchwarmers.
“What are steriods?”
“They make your peepee smal.”
“Ohh, there must be steriods in macaroni.”

I know none of them! Probably because I haven’t seen most of those movies. *g*
Except for Christmas Story: Oldsmobile man.
And Zoolander: Words can only hurt you…don’t play their game.

I recognized Napoleon Dynamite and Christmas Story quotes. I haven’t seen any of the other movies, except for Princess Bride.
My husband thinks ND is one of the funniest films he’s ever seen. I always cringe when I watch it, as most of the kids in the film were my classmates growing up. I feel the need to somehow protect them (and in so doing, myself) from the mockery

those qoutes are beyond me..I didn’t know any.. but there is one that always sticks out to me
“Nobody, but nobody puts ketchup on a hot dog..”
That is just soo funny to me…
In case your wondering its Dirty Harry..

Some of my favorite quotes from movies are,
LOTR – “It comes in pints??”
Road to Eldorado – “The horse was a surprise.” “The Gods wish to bask!” We do a lot of basking at our house, especially after we get the house clean. Much basking happens then.
Fugitive- “I didn’t kill my wife.” “I don’t care.” We really love Tommy Lee Jones anyway.

Remember 48 Hours? My husband had a favorite from that one. Nick Nolte’s character asked one of the other cops how his wife was and the guy replied, “Mean as a snake.” That became his standard response when someone asked about me and SOOO true!

I’ve seen four of the movies, but I know what you mean about lines going through your head. For me, it’s usually romantic lines. They creep up when I’m writing, and then I have to stop and say, “Wait, is that from a movie??” Usually, it is. Sigh.

I’m with Claudia in that I haven’t seen any of the listed films. Good luck to those who have.
Kathy I had trouble posting yesterday.
Yasmin HAPPY BIRTHDAY if you happen to come and have a peak at TGB!!
LisaK on 26 Sep 2008 at 2:35 pm #
I’ve only seen “Dead Poets Society” and “Chicago”, and these two in German, so I don’t know any of the quotes. But good luck to everybody else.
Happyhappyhappy Birthday, my dear Yaya! Have a wonderful day!
