Weird News Time

I’m on my way to San Francisco for the RWA conference. Before I go, I want to leave you with the latest weird news. I read this and it cracked me up.

A man who tried to rob the Café Treo in Salt Lake City in April told the employee to “fill” the bag, but when the employee reached over and earnestly started to “feel” the bag (according to police), the robber said, “You’ve gotta be kidding me” and ran out of the store. [KSL-TV (Salt Lake City), 4-11-08]

Au revior, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye and try not to have too much fun while I’m gone.

Are you all going somewhere fun this summer?

I will be lounging in a romantic bed and bath in the Catskills later this month. Have a great time in San Fran. I sooooooooo wish I was going with you guys.

  4. Ellen on 30 Jul 2008 at 6:42 am #

If I am ever in Nova Scotia, I will definately look for you Kathy! I ALWAYS wanted to go there.

  5. cail on 30 Jul 2008 at 6:44 am #

not sure about a long trip yet… should start planning, but the dearest and I will be going to Martha’s Vineyard in a week and a half with some of his cousins.

I wonder if my mother would be up for a quick jaunt across the pond.

Ellen, I too, have always wanted to go to Nova Scotia! I looked into it once and then put it on my list of things to do. Kathy, if I ever go, I will also look you up. For now my trips consist of going to MN today for the start of my daughters’ National Fastpitch Tourney. Then in September, I fly out to Montana to spend a week on horseback (Tonto), riding through streams and up mountains, rain or shine. It’s absolute bliss and I look forward to it every year!
Have fun in San Fran everyone and stay safe! Earthquakes scare me almost as much as tornado’s!

  7. cail on 30 Jul 2008 at 7:35 am #

amy- your vacations sound like my vacations! my mom and i go on horse back riding treks nearly every year.

In about 2 1/2 weeks Darling Daughter #2 and I will be road tripping her back to college. It’s a nice drive from Ohio to Kansas. Then I will fly back the next day so quick trip for me. We’ll probably take a weekend fishing/camping trip to a lake about an hour north of here sometime before summer is over.
Amy, we lived in Montana for 3 years and I see why you look forward to your time back there. The whole state is breath taking. Even the plains in the eastern part. My favorite part was the shinook (sp?) winds. You could go to bed with snow on the ground and temps of -10 degrees and wake up to the snow all melted and 60 degrees. It always amazed me!

I am getting excited. My husband and I are taking the kids to Disney World the 2nd week in September! We are staying a little over a week and cannot wait to see it all through the three year old’s eyes.

I do wish I was in San Fransico, but next year Nationals will be in Washington DC, and I am planning on being there!

The most amazing thing about the weird news story is that the employee admitted to feeling up the bag.

  11. Lisa H on 30 Jul 2008 at 9:00 am #

Suzanne E - I just read on Theresa Meidiros’ blog that you and she are hanging out this week after Nationals! I hope you ladies have fun debating the Star Trek vs. Star Wars talks!

I’m thinking I have to go to Minneapolis for work soon which is the connection city to Idaho from the east so maybe I’ll tack on a quick swing back to beautiful, spacious and quiet Idaho. Of course, there are probably tons of beautiful quiet places in Minnesota I could visit so maybe I’ll accept that fact and save myself the extra flight.

    Enjoy RWA everybody!

Hey guys! This Karen H from Suzie’s computer. I’ve always wanted to go to Nova Scotia, too. I’ve been dying to learn to fly fish and I hear it’s gorgeous there.

    Rachel. that is SO funny!

Note to Self: Take elocution lessons prior to bank job.

  14. Suzanne Enoch on 30 Jul 2008 at 11:18 am #

Thanks, LisaH — yep, Teresa and I are doing a tour of the west coast next week. The tour dates are on my website. I’m ready for any challenges between Han Solo and Captain Picard. *g*

Suzanne… I might be able to sneak over to your Cypress signing…

Kathy, I was actually close to where you are last fall.. not sure if I am headed east again, have to see if we are going to the show in NYC again… if so, I might bop over your way, I hear it is beautiful.

Fly fishing.. sounds fun… I can wear sparkly waders :D ;)

I’m headed to Cleveland for vacation in September. Wahoo! Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame here I come, baby, yeah! Everyone thinks I’m nuts for vacationing in Ohio, but I’ve never been to the mid-west, and I’m really excited. Any restaurant recommendations? Cool, funky places to see? I’m serious, please reply!

  17. Kathy/Cookie on 30 Jul 2008 at 12:23 pm #

    fly fishing?? never been!!
    lol
I’ve sailed on a tall ship, went deep sea fishing when I was kid.
I’d love to see the sparkly waders!

  18. Kathy/Cookie on 30 Jul 2008 at 12:26 pm #

wait, according to Drew Carey, Cleveland rocks!!

  19. Kari on 30 Jul 2008 at 12:45 pm #

Thanks, Kathy!! Now I’ve got that Drew Carey song stuck in my head!!

No big plans for a vacation here. Since I live in Florida, my vacation is the occational trip to Bush Gardens, the Tampa Zoo (Lowry Park) or Sea World. We have YET to make it to Disney World. One of these years maybe.

I’ve been to Canada a couple times and I must say it is beautiful country. Oh and I saw a moose there!! My first and last, so far.

I already took my big summer trip when I went to Miami to see my granddaughter. I do plan to go to the NJRW Put Your Heart in a Book Conference Book Fair in October in Iselin, NJ. They usually have a big author turnout and I think one of the Goddesses said she might attend?

Looks as though the attendees in SF are already having a good time. I hope they bring back lots of great pics.

It doesn’t look like we will be going much of anywhere this summer. Although my DIL asked if we were interested in a camping trip sometime soon. We used to camp a lot when my sons were younger. I always prefer camp sites with showers and electricity.

Sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas we want to take the grandsons to MN so they can see if they can handle the winters. We are thinking of moving therein the near future.

Sheridan what part of Colorado is your dad in? We have a large contingent of family in the NE portion. Of course with the size of our family we have someone in nearly every state in the union.

evlqn, he is on the western slope… Montrose, just north of Telluride, south of Grand Junction.

Hahaha. Oh my. I wonder about that clerk… and in a way you have to feel a tiny bit bad for the robber. Ahaha. Sad.

Moab, Cleveland is a lovely, heart of America town. The Jake (Jacobs Field) is a great place to watch an Indians game even if they’re season is tanking. There’s a great little town on the east side called “Chagrin Falls” that has a charming little inn The Chagrin Inn. The town is so Norman Rockwell cute with a popcorn shop (original not retro) and a diner called “Dinks”. There’s good shopping at Beachwood Place and Legacy Village also on the east side of Cleveland. The Rock Hall is cool. If you are staying downtown, don’t wait till late for to eat! Unlike the NY area, you can’t find a morsel after 10 pm. I visit often for work but haven’t had much chance to do much cultural touring lately so I don’t have much museum or symphony advice for you but have fun! It’s a classic MidWestern town that likes to show off what it has just like other big cities around the world.
