Today’s the Day!!

I’m flying from Costa Mesa, California to San Francisco today. It’s about an hour and forty minute flight – not bad, but plenty of time for me to sit and worry. No, I’m not worrying about flying. I’m worrying because Before the Scandal: The Notorious Gentlemen comes out today.

I don’t have kids to send off to school, but I imagine the emotions are similar: pride, worry, hope, and above all the belief that my baby would be much safer at home where I could keep an eye on her.

My baby’s grades will come out next week – her rankings on the New York Times list, the USA Today list, etc. She’s already been evaluated by several professionals (er, reviewers), who tell me that she’s above average and very witty with a great sense of humor over a deep emotional core. That’s something of a relief, but I still want her to test well.

She’s dressed a little flashily, in bright red and black, but then I do want her to get noticed. There are a lot of new kids hanging out together in the bookstores, and it’ll be disappointing for both of us if she’s the last one picked for sports, or the beach, or a place of honor at the top of someone’s TBR stack.

So what are you doin’ today? Flying? Going to work? Vacationing? Stopping by a bookstore? Lemme know if you see my kid. I try to encourage her to go home with strangers.

Happy Release Day, Suzanne. I’ll definitely be doing some shopping on Amazon this week.

  2. Maggie on 29 Jul 2008 at 3:32 am #

Happy Happy Joy Joy! She will do fine. Red is my favorite color. After all, it stands for power! So all the power to you today!

Have a great day, Suzanne, your baby will be going home with lots of strangers! I can feel it! lol
Everyone have a good time in San Fran!!!
I’m leaving shortly for my surgery. When I get home, I’m sure I’ll be sleeping the rest of the day, but I’ll thump the cats on the keyborad before I go off to dreamland!

  4. Kathy/Cookie on 29 Jul 2008 at 4:56 am #

cast! I’ll thump the cast on the keyboard!
The cat thumps on the keyboard all on her own!lol

  5. Lisa H on 29 Jul 2008 at 5:12 am #

Congratulations Suzanne! You are so on my TBR pile. To me, red and black signify passion and naughtiness…I’m sure your book will deliver both.

  6. Ellen on 29 Jul 2008 at 6:32 am #

Today, I am giving a new home to a red and black book.

  7. amy1242 on 29 Jul 2008 at 6:37 am #

Congrat’s Suzanne! Can’t wait to pick up my copy today before leaving for my daughter’s Fastpitch Nationals in Rochester, MN.

LOL Kathy/Cookie! Sometimes I think about thumping my cats on the keyboard too!

Everyone have fun in San Fran!!

  8. PJ on 29 Jul 2008 at 7:22 am #

Congrats, Suzanne! I’m sure your baby will be going home with many people, especially if they’ve already made the acquaintance of her big sis, After the Kiss. I’m looking forward to bringing her home myself. :)
Oh, and I love the way she’s dressed! Red is one of my fav colors.

Kathy, good luck with the surgery. Sending lots of positive vibes your way.

  9. cail on 29 Jul 2008 at 7:33 am #

Your baby should already be en route to my house. I have been waiting weeks to meet her. I cannot wait!!

Luckily, I have an excellent distraction while the postman does his thing… my college roommate popped up from NYC for some R&R in my small coastal New England town, so I have tons on the plate for today. Chances are it will involve Lobster, visiting the dearest at the Winery he works at, shopping and showing her the general cuteness of this area. Possibly forgoing all that for some outlet shopping.

Naturally I will be multitasking- after all I need to send good vibes to Suzie for Before the Scandal and to Kathy for her surgery.

  10. cail on 29 Jul 2008 at 7:47 am #

UGH!!! I just got an email from Barnes and Nobles saying my book is being shipped TODAY!!! aren’t they supposed to make books arrive the day they come out when you pre-order?

  11. Jessie on 29 Jul 2008 at 8:32 am #

What am I doing today? Um, I’m stopping by Borders to buy BEFORE THE SCANDAL. Usually my Borders doesn’t get the romance novels on the shelves on release day, but I will definitely be making them get it out of the back for me, like I did with AFTER THE KISS.

  12. Margaret Garland on 29 Jul 2008 at 8:36 am #

cail, that was my beef with Amazon.com a few years ago. They didn’t ship till publication release day. I wrote to them with my gripe. One of the things I said was I could go to B&N or Borders and get the book that day if Amazon.com couldn’t see their way to getting it to me by then.

Now, my ego isn’t that large that I think the powers that be there would listen to me. However, all my pre-ordred books since then have arrived on THE day.

Happy day for you, Suzanne. I love her cover. Heck, I’d buy the book for the cover alone. Red being my favorite color. I know your baby will do well out in the cold, cruel world. Can’t wait till Friday to get my copy.

    Hugs,
    Margaret

Suzanne- I am on my way to the bookstore to pick up your baby… yours are always the first to make it to my house… I am NEVER disappointed by your books, so I am dying for this one… (I am ever impatient for new additions to your family to become a part of mine…) but I love your work, so the time table works great! :)
    Have fun in SF!

  14. elsiehogarth on 29 Jul 2008 at 8:38 am #

Congratulations Suzanne! BTS is wonderful. I just want Lord Quence to have a happy ending too. I just love William.

Today, I will also be going to Borders today since it’s “New Release Tuesday” and checking out what’s new on the shelves.

  15. SuzyQ on 29 Jul 2008 at 9:01 am #

I too will be picking up your baby at Borders today at lunch. I’ll stop in later and let you know if it was on the shelves.

  16. LisaK on 29 Jul 2008 at 9:21 am #

Have I told you how very much I love the way your children dress, Suzie?
Unfortunately my books - both ATK and BFS - don’t have stepbacks *sniffsniff*. Maybe I could convince two other ones (with stepbacks) to come home with me, just to admire their clothing a little…

  17. Kathy/Cookie on 29 Jul 2008 at 9:49 am #

    I’m home!!!
my big sis just settled me in and now…
it is starting to hurt, so my dears, I’m going to take the lovely pain pill and flake on the couch!!
    hyuhjyu
that was my left hand sayin hi!!! lol

  18. Suzanne Enoch on 29 Jul 2008 at 9:53 am #

Yay, Kathy! I’m so glad you’re home and napping.

Thanks to everyone who’s going out to look for my kid today. I knew red would be a good wardrobe choice. *g*

I’m eating some Raisin Bran Crunch at the moment, and then I’ll be throwing my last minute packing items into the suitcase.

  19. Suzanne Enoch on 29 Jul 2008 at 10:30 am #

Cail, so far I think you’re the winner for the funnest day prize.

    Any challengers?

  20. Sheridan LA on 29 Jul 2008 at 10:49 am #

Congrats on the new baby, Suzanne.. I will be getting her shortly. :)

Cail does win for most fun day.. I will be watching two hand models holding a little piece of plexiglass get exactly the right position for a print ad (it is a stand-in for the product that is not here yet) while the marketing people debate over said hand position, making sure it is perfect. heh

  21. Sheridan LA on 29 Jul 2008 at 10:50 am #

oh.. and speedy recovery Kathy! We’ll all virtually sign your cast.. whether it is the signing kind or not :D I’ll add some glitter to my name so you have have some bling in your recovery

  22. dbrown3400 on 29 Jul 2008 at 10:55 am #

Guess what was on my doorstep when I returned from grocery shopping? Although it meant I missed my usual liaison with my UPS man, he did leave my copy of BTS. I put away the perishables, but the rest can wait while I at least start the first few chapters. Maybe not, but I will start reading when my chores are done.

Kathy, glad you’re past the hurdle of your surgery and hope your recovery is speedy.

  23. evlqn on 29 Jul 2008 at 11:22 am #

Congrats on your new arrival Suzanne!! She will be fine with all of us strangers, I promise. So have fun knowing we will be taking care of her as we should.
Glad you are home Kathy, be well.

  24. colinfirthfan on 29 Jul 2008 at 12:05 pm #

Your baby is definitely coming home with me!!

I do have a big TBR pile but I am slowly getting through it. :)

All the goddesses are in my neck of the woods today. Started out kinda foggy and cool but it is warming up inland. Might even drizzle in San Fran today. Hope everyone is warm!!

  25. Monica on 29 Jul 2008 at 12:17 pm #

I managed to see your baby out early (I got the last one, I might add) at Wally World on Sunday. It is a great read–I finished it Sunday night! I look forward to reading Brom’s story ( and Bradshaw’s too, but that goes without saying). I will be working on getting ready for school today. Have a great trip.

  26. Suzanne Enoch on 29 Jul 2008 at 1:04 pm #

Hey! I’m at the John Wayne Airport, everybody. Forgive the silence of the rest of the goddesses-in-residence — I think they’re all in the air right now.

Thanks to everybody reporting sightings of my kid! It’s very helpful to know where and when they get out there.

  27. SuzyQ on 29 Jul 2008 at 1:19 pm #

Well, I just got back from lunch and of course Borders did not have the new releases out on the shelves. However, I spied 5 boxes on the floor by the paperbacks. Since no one was around to help, I searched through the boxes and found BTS. Whoo hoo! So while I was at it, I took out BTS and put them right in front. Just think of me as your Fairy Goddess Mother!

  28. SuzyQ on 29 Jul 2008 at 1:20 pm #

Oh and Kathy, do feel better soon!

  29. Sheridan LA on 29 Jul 2008 at 1:50 pm #

oooh. I just felt my first earthquake!

    what a trip!

  30. colinfirthfan on 29 Jul 2008 at 3:38 pm #

Guess SuzeE just missed the earthquake!

Sheridan, did you just recently move to California? I am in Northern Cal and I haven’t felt more than a 5.2 way north of us. Felt many 3.6’s etc.. Those are not scary anymore. :)

  31. Kari on 29 Jul 2008 at 3:42 pm #

Today I am sporting a killer headache, but I think a couple asprin and a good book….ahem….BTS should do the trick.

Sheridan-How exciting!!! Hope you were safe.

    Cail- I want your day!!

    Kathy- Hope you heal fast!!

Hope all our goddesses have a wonderful time in SF!!

  32. cail on 29 Jul 2008 at 3:47 pm #

earthquake! wow. i’m back from my day of fun- the former roomie is waiting at the train station 40 min away where her original train was canceled. I might have to drive her half way to NY if the train that is scheduled for 520 gets canceled also. Bummer. But we did have a fun day!

    Feel better Kathy!

  33. Sheridan LA on 29 Jul 2008 at 3:57 pm #

I moved here 4 years ago.. so this is the first one I have felt. I am glad my friends told me about the “rolling” ones, which this one was.. it was wild. I got to really feel it, I was sitting in my desk chair and could totally feel the ground rolling.. pretty cool.

not that I want them to up the strength… this one was fine for me :)

  34. Kathy/Cookie on 29 Jul 2008 at 4:31 pm #

    Earthquake???cool!
    scary, but cool.
Part of cast is writable, bu the rest is mostly wrapped. I’m going to have my girlies come and decorate my slings. there will be bling!! purple of course- it’s my colour!
the weirdest part is not being able to spread my fingers. I’ve never had a cast before- and hate mittens for that reason.
thanks for all the good wishes everyone!!
    hugs to all

  35. colinfirthfan on 29 Jul 2008 at 4:49 pm #

The first I felt one was at work too. Building was swaying and the windows and blinds etc.. were rattling. Freaked me out.

Sheridan, I have been in Nor Cal for 10 years and I haven’t felt more than a 5.2 or something. Keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way for the foreseeable future.

    Get well soon, Kathy!

  36. Meg on 29 Jul 2008 at 5:19 pm #

Unfortunately, I was working today and was not able to pick up your baby today, Suzanne. *pout* However, I WILL be picking it up tomorrow during my lunch hour! Can’t wait! Also, I love the cover!! The red and black look great. I am in the middle of reading After the Kiss right now and will be starting Before the Scandal right after. I know I will not be let down. You know, it’s kind of a thing you have, Suzanne, about not disappointing your fans. :-)

Hope everyone has a great (and safe) time in San Fran.

Kathy — hope you are well soon.

  37. evlqn on 29 Jul 2008 at 6:55 pm #

Sheridan, congrats on making it through your first earthquake! After a while you won’t even blink at them. After years in LA we had one while I was in the shower and the only thing I could think was hurry and get the shampoo out of myhair before we lose the water.

  38. Suzanne Enoch on 29 Jul 2008 at 6:56 pm #

    I’m in San Francisco!

I did feel the earthquake, Sheridan! We were all sitting in the terminal and the flight attendant was giving us our boarding information. We all rocked back and forth, and she just kept talking. *g*

Thanks, Meg. What a nice thing to say.

BTW, Ka-Ha is here with me, and she’s already hogged all the closet space.

  39. Suzanne Enoch on 29 Jul 2008 at 7:01 pm #

This is Karen H using Suzanne’s computer. I am NOT hogging the closet space. I am ‘utilizing my spatial priority’ because I have a few more shoes than Suzanne.

    Just sayin’.

  40. Judy F on 29 Jul 2008 at 7:11 pm #

I hope your baby finds its way into some nice homes today. I work at the bookstore friday not. I will get her on the endcap ASAP.

Karen I know you are being an Angel…

    Glad everything went OK Kathy.

My day sucked. Boss is an evil woman… I swear she doesn’t remember anything you tell her……

Oh and PMS is in full force. LOL

    I need a drink

  41. Suzanne Enoch on 29 Jul 2008 at 7:39 pm #

SuzyQ & Judy F - thank you for seeing that my kid is properly displayed. And no, Ka-Ha is NOT behaving herself. *g*

  42. Nicole Jordan on 29 Jul 2008 at 9:33 pm #

Congratulations on your new baby! Can’t wait to read it. It sounds delicious!!

    Stay safe and have fun!

  43. Maggie on 29 Jul 2008 at 11:41 pm #

I got BTS!!! Had to brow-beat the young man at the Info Desk because at 5:30pm HST, BTS was nowhere to be found in the store…the computers showed no copies!!! This is sometimes standard operating procedure out here because everything travels by boat. I live in Hawaii…sometimes it is good; sometimes not.

But the nice lady (who is an avid romance reader) knew that I was on the hunt. She dug through the boxes in the back and came up with three copies!!!! Yeah! So I will post here and hunker down for the evening. Dinner is on the table and everyone knows “Momma has a new book!”

  44. jess on 30 Jul 2008 at 8:35 am #

    Suzie-
I got you baby at my Target store around noon yesterday- It looked so beautiful in red… Between ferrying my children to various hockey practices (yes in MN, we play hockey all year round it seems) I finished it yesterday evening. WHAT A GREAT READ!!!!! I LOVED IT!!! (I always do, so I am not surprised…) I loved it all…Alyse and Phin were so perfect. I love the stories that have old friends/romances that hook up… I also loved how William finally made Phin talk to him. It was perfect!!!! A great addtion to your family and mine!

I am sad however that I have to wait a LONG while for Bram’s story… He is so funny around Elizabeth… can I assume correctly that Beth will be his heroine? They seem to be destined for greatness- it will be fun to watch as Bram has to wage war with her brothers and Sullivan.

    Jess

  45. jess on 30 Jul 2008 at 8:46 am #

    ok… so typos drive me nuts… I found YOUR baby… :)

Also- FYI- I am not starting another Anne/Sebastian situation with mentioning Bram/Beth… I actually loved Seb’s story just the way it was!

I just think it is funny that Bram seems so terrified of Beth… could lead to an interesting and wickedly fun courtship…especially with friends and brothers in the mix.

So rest assured Suzie, that I will never presume to tell you who should be matched with who- there are plenty of heroes to go around and Beth will get her story- if not with Bram…then with whomever you (and Phin, Sully, William and Bram) see fit…

And your babies will always be welcome in my home!
    Jess

Your precious baby is now cradled in my hands!

Have fun at RWA. Hope we see lots of pictures.

Can’t WAIT to read this!! YAY!

  48. Janae on 03 Aug 2008 at 8:08 pm #

I’m heading out tomorrow morning to buy a copy because we just got back from our 10 day trip to the East Coast. I’ve a Barnes and Noble gift card burning a hole in my wallet. I’m looking forward to the spring when Bram’s story comes out.
