Where DO you get your ideas?

If I had a nickel for every time I’m asked that question … I would have a LOT of nickels, LOL.  I take it as a compliment, actually.  In my line of work, it’s nice to know people wonder how I come up with gruesome tales of mayhem and murder.  It must mean I have an innocent face.

Bwahahahaha.  Little do they know!

But I do get that question a lot, as most writers do.  So where DO I get my ideas?  And the answer is - all different places, and each tale has a tale of its own.   For example, in DIE FOR ME, the villain is a video game designer with a meticulous attention to detail.   Bad things ensue.  I got the idea for that book after listening to the audio version of a time travel book where the characters go back to medieval France.  (Think Gerry Butler in the movie version.)  I thought, now wouldn’t going back in time be too cool!  For about five minutes maybe - then I’d miss my flushing toilet and MP3.  But what if a villain was obsessed with that time period - especially the violent parts?  Then I remembered visiting a medieval torture museum in Germany with Mr. R (totally his idea), and the evil Simon Vartanian was born.

SCREAM FOR ME - which was released yesterday - took a slightly different path.  I started with a mystery I’d left dangling at the end of DIE FOR ME - the first time I’d ever written a sequel!  The evil Simon had possessed some photos, you see.  Photos that looked like real victims being hurt.  His older brother Daniel pledges to get the victims justice, no matter how long it takes.  Then add in a startling experience of my own:  my first viewed autopsy.  I experienced the very disturbing sensation of not being able to absorb what my eyes were seeing.  Part of my mind insisted I was looking at a doll.  The other part knew I was looking at a dead body and tersely told the first part to get it together.  I distinctly remember the entire dialogue between the two halves of my brain, like I was a bystander.  Very, very surreal.  That experience became a big part of SCREAM FOR ME as I thought about what would happen if someone saw something so horrific and overwhelming that the denying part of their mind won?  What would make them remember, and what would that experience be like?

Now you know a bit about where I get my ideas.  I like to think I still have an innocent face!  (Bwahahaha!)

So … where do you get your inspiration?  If you paint or write or sing or play sports or whatever it is you do, what makes your mind percolate?  Do you have to have incentive (aka chocolate) or does inspiration miraculously occur?  Do I have an innocent face (humor me)? Have you seen the video for SCREAM FOR ME?  Will you RUN and get your copy of SCREAM FOR ME today?

Karen R - you have an innocent and beautiful face! No doubt. No I have not seen the trailer for “Scream” because your other trailers scared the &$@* out of me!

I love your story about the autopsy, I can imagine how surreal that was.

I write and I paint. My painting comes from “feeling” the colors together. I paint with a lot of techniques and I often mix 2 or 3 colors and glaze to get the look I am going for.

With writing, I think about my plot alot and I get ideas from everywhere…music…other married couples…other books…I mix them all together to come up with something original. Fantasies also play a part. My first book was partially inspired by a song from Sting “I burn for You” My next book is inspired by abused wives and their constant doubting of themselves combined with a touch of unrequited love.

Yes, KarenR, you have the innocent face of an angel. Meek and mild. Sweet and kittenish. No one would ever guess you posses a dark side. Have I humored you enough? *G*

Alas, I am not very creative. I need written directions for all things creative. I’m a great Indian for all you chiefs, however. That should count for something. And I am very supportive of adolescent sports. I have my own chair-in-a-bag and table-in-a-bag. Always prepared for any weather event.

Now, I want to know why in the world you attended an autopsy. Whatever possesed you? You didn’t feel queasy and nearly pass out? Heck, I can’t even watch them on CSI or Bones and I *know* they are fake bodies. Gulp.
You are a braver woman than I, Gunga Din.

  3. Sabrina Jeffries on 14 May 2008 at 7:35 am #

Yeah, fantasies are a big part for me, too, especially writing romance. News stories are great–I start asking “what if” and next thing I know I’ve got a plot.

Personal experiences do help, too–while I was writing Married to the Viscount, I happened to visit a museum exhibit of peep show boxes from my period, and that spurred me to include boxes like that in the book. It added an interesting layer, I think.

Hi Karen, yes, I saw the trailer (and btw. I’m sooo looking forward to having “Daniel” as the next FROS) and, as I downloaded “Scream For Me” as an eBook yesterday (I just couldn’t wait any longer - English-speaking books need an eteeeernity to arrive here when sent by post), I’ve just finished reading it an hour ago or so.
And all I can say is “AWESOME”.
Really, I totally loved it, loved it, loved it, the story, the haunted heroine and the yummy hero, and it almost reached “You Can’t Hide”, my favourite book overall. Keep on writing like that!
I also do writing and painting.
I mostly don’t get the ideas for my paintings anywhere, they’re just there, suddenly popping up in my mind and not leaving me until I brought them to paper (respectively canvas).
It’s the same thing with my stories, but in addition I absorb everything around me and utilize it - songs, movies, discussions with friends etc. I’m a shameless borrower of life.

The thing about your blog today that fascinates me, Karen the Demure, is that you *remember* specifically what inspired you. That shows an incredible amount of self-awareness about your creative process.

I’m not that tuned in. I know only in a general sense where my ideas come from, but I can’t track the journey step by step, as you can. In fact, the closer I look at the seeds of inspiration, the more they tend to dry up.

All I understand is that I must read history books. I have piles and piles of history books. I have 6 going at once, at least. Put all the books together, and ideas spring up. Not like Sabrina and her peep show box, nothing that straightforward and logical. It’s more a metamorphosis, something solid rising from the mist.

Running to the store now, Miss Innocent…

  6. Kim on 14 May 2008 at 7:55 am #

K-Rock–you do have an innocent face! It never ceases to amaze me, you are one of the sweetest people I know but yet you write these uber-scary books with such twisted plots and unexpected turns.

To be honest, Scream For Me was a total shocker. In no way did I think you were going to go where you did. Totally blown away! So everyone run out and grab a copy. Just read in the daytime. With the lights on. And the alarm set. And the guard dog on duty. ;)

As for inspiration, I get a lot of ideas from music. I hear a song and think of the story to go along with it.

  7. LisaK on 14 May 2008 at 7:59 am #

And yes, KarenR, you definitely have got an innocent face! If I saw you walking down the street I’d never even take into consideration that you can come up with so much evil like you apparently do. You’re a wolf in sheep’s clothing, did you know that? ;)

  8. Susan M on 14 May 2008 at 8:00 am #

Karen…of course you have an innocent face…absolutely…definitely…are you believing any of this? Do I need to continue?

I scrapbook and make cards. My inspiration comes from all around me…my family, my friends, co-workers, tv, magazines, books, movies, scrapbook.com, etc. But what really gets my creative juices going is when I sit down and look through the scrapbook pages I’ve completed and the pictures I still need to scrapbook. What I use as incentive is shopping. I tell myself that if I get so many pages done then I can go buy some scrapbook stuff. (It’s an addiction!) Plus I have Skittles to keep me going.

  9. Karen Hawkins on 14 May 2008 at 8:03 am #

Ka-Rock, you DO have an innocent face, but a wicked sense of humor. That’s a killer combination!

I get my ideas from little things . . . a phrase someone might say, an advertisement that catches my eye, a person of interest I might see at a grocery store . . . little things.

My next book, Talk of the Town, came from driving up 26W through Asheville, NC. I used to live in Georgia and by ‘rents live in East Tennessee, so I drove the saem road several times a year for a loooong time. Anyway, there was this exit and you could see this strip mall along the road, but no town. Every time I passed, the mall had a new store. Over the years, they had a taxidermist, two hair salons, a church, a comic book place, an RC place, a restaurant — even the US Post Office was located there for a while. It just intrigued me and I began making up stories for the occupants and . . . viola! A book was born.

  10. DebMarlowe on 14 May 2008 at 8:10 am #

You do have a lovely, innocent face, Karen, and everybody here on Mt. Oly adores all the wonderful wit and charm underneath!

I will be getting Scream for Me, today! I have to speak at a B&N, and I’ll have it in my hot little hand before the night is out! Yay!

Alot of my ideas come from research. Some come from staring at people in the grocery store and at sports practices. :-)

  11. elsiehogarth on 14 May 2008 at 8:25 am #

Karen Rose innocent face! Always. It’s what’s in her brain that you have to worry about. Bwahahahaha. Every time I see the t-shirt that says: Careful or you’ll end up in my novel. I think of her.

I craft, paint, cross stitch etc. all kinds of things…so inspiration comes from just about anything but I rarely craft during the day. It’s always late at night. Some times I wake up in the middle of the night (2:00am) and start working on something that I probally stored in that small part of my brain and then decides it needs to be done.

  12. doglady on 14 May 2008 at 8:26 am #

You do have that sweet and innocent thing going for you, Karen. Little do they know! Can’t wait to get my hands on Scream For Me! One more night of sleeping with the lights on!

Lost in Love came from a writing exercise one of my CPs suggested when I was blocked writing what I was working on at the time. She gave me four words - glitter, soldier, journal and cave - and I had to write a story using them. That story became the first chapter of Lost in Love which has finaled in seven contests this year.

Now Dreams of Angels came from a statement someone made about one of our managers. “If he was murdered, it wouldn’t be a case of who wanted him dead. It would a matter of who DIDN’T!” The list of people who didn’t want him dead would be very, very short! My villain in Dreams of Angels is a duke and a complete @%@%!

The Raven’s Heart was inspired by some ethereal photos of the town of Dunwich England which gradually fell into the sea.

  13. Karen Rose on 14 May 2008 at 8:38 am #

Margaret - I didn’t actually plan to see the autopsy. I’d gone on a tour of the medical examiners’ office to see the lab, etc. In fact, I’d specifically said I didn’t want to view an autopsy - it seemed a bit disrespectful to me.

However, one of other people on the tour was a medical professional and got to networking with the ME and she showed that guy the autopsy viewing area. Problem was, I somehow ended up in the front of the crowd and was kind of pushed into the room, not realizing what I was about to see.

So the dialog in my brain was partially due to the shock of what I unexpectedly saw. I was rocked for a long time. I actually stopped breathing for a minute or so and a friend who was also on the tour had to whack me on the back.

What was even more disturbing was finding out the next day that the deceased was my age. It put a very human element into what had been a surreal experience…

  14. Karen Rose on 14 May 2008 at 8:40 am #

Thank you to you all for humoring me on release day + 1! I have to cultivate the “good Karen” persona, ha.

  15. Karen Rose on 14 May 2008 at 8:43 am #

Sabrina - are peep show boxes what I think they are? How risque were the pics? Did they show ANKLES and everything?

Hmmm, Claudia - I never thought about it that way. I like your analogy - makes me picture you meadering through a meadow, picking flowers hitherthither and somehow making a beautiful bouquet :-)

KarenH - that is a cool story about the strip mall! Are there any dead bodies or murders lurking in the alley behind the strip mall?

  16. Karen Rose on 14 May 2008 at 8:46 am #

Kim - thank you! I’m glad you were surprised :-) So was I. I knew who the bad guy was, but had no idea all of the other stuff they’d unearth along the way.

  17. Kay on 14 May 2008 at 8:55 am #

KarenR, you have always had a sweet, innocent face. Nobody who meets you can understand how you come up with the evil villains. :-)

I have to point out, though, that you nicely balance the mayhem with HOT, HOT romance. Your heroes are each, in turn, my favorite. Daniel is WONDERFUL. I can’t wait for FROS. The peek of him (yum) in you awesome video was not enough. I love the book videos and hope you make them for all of your new books.

I won’t run out to get my copy of SCREAM FOR ME today, because I bought YESTERDAY AT 9 AM, when the store opened. I have to save my beautiful signed copy, because I will read this one to death–it belongs on everyones keeper shelf. :-)

  18. Ellen on 14 May 2008 at 8:56 am #

All my inspiration is a direct result of my brain’s inability to look at life’s situations and not ask “What if…”

It doesn’t matter how good an ending is, I always twist it around in my mind until my own answer surprises me.

  19. Ellen on 14 May 2008 at 8:57 am #

By the way…I will be in a RI hotel with your book this week. I guess I should rule out sleeping!

  20. Karen Rose on 14 May 2008 at 8:59 am #

Kay is too kind. She is also responsible for some of the murder and mayhem. She helped concoct a scene in which a lawyer meets his demise in I’M WATCHING YOU. It was a great scene. She also has an innocent face, but having known her nearly 30 years, I know better.

Ellen - I do the same thing with movies and TV. Most of the time I know where I’d take the plot by the middle of the show and must compare their ending to mine at the end. Sometimes I like theirs better.

  21. Karen Rose on 14 May 2008 at 9:00 am #

    Ellen, sleep is highly overrated.

  22. Kay on 14 May 2008 at 9:33 am #

Karen, that was so much fun.

I forgot about the inspiration part, sometimes I pick a location and think, “Who would love being there and who would hate being there” and go with it. Other times I see an object–in one case a rocking chair– and it calls to me. It becomes as much of a “character” in my story as the people.

  23. Kathy/Cookiedough on 14 May 2008 at 9:50 am #

Of COURSE you have an innocent face! blink blink! don’t we all?
    wuhhahahahaha
right before we do something dastardly!
Skip this story if you horrify easily…

My poor sister Lorraine, the minister, was giving our mom last rights. One of her final wishes-
right after the autopsy. She wasn’t told not to touch her, so she bent down to kiss her. This was her only chance to be with mom before cremation. The rest of us were at the hospital with her either when she died or as the case with me, just after.
Soooo, she touched behind mom’s ear as she bent over and touched something gooey. The doc there screamed “Don’t touch her”!
Now as horrifying as this was for my sister and our other sister Mo who was wtching this unfold, we all had a good laugh about it at the funeral reception.
We kept saying mom would have said, “Oh for heavens sake, LorRAINE” in her mom’s voice way.
Yup, my family is the Addams family!
in the vein of autopsy viewing.
shake your head at me now.

  24. Kay on 14 May 2008 at 9:59 am #

Kathy, LMAO funny! Your family sounds great.

  25. Kathy/Cookiedough on 14 May 2008 at 10:00 am #

As for my inspiration for my art- painting or the videos I am so into right now– Alot of it is what I see in nature, or I hear a song that reminds me of someone.
I love to walk on the beach and watch the plovers run up and down from the water, the ospreys soaring and diving. I do alot of beach scenes in my sketch pad.
I don’t write books, but I create other artistry.
If I hear a song- and right now Snow Patrol’s chasing cars is playing on the radio- then it resonates a feeling, so I want to recreate that feeling in my videos.
A few days ago, I borrowed a sister’s top shelf of family photo albums to scan. she would like me to make a present video for all the siblings and grandchildren of our late parents. She likes it when I make people cry! lol
I made her cry when I showed her our sis in law’s gift video, which gave her the idea for me to do our parents. We spant the next hr on youtube listening to Perry Como and Frank Mills, remembering our parents’ favourite music.
    cont

  26. Kathy/Cookiedough on 14 May 2008 at 10:02 am #

little did she know I was looking for a way to get hold of her albums. She and her husband will celebrate their 30th anniversary a few days before Christmas and I had this whole video play out in my head last week of their pictures running to the tune of I Got You Babe!

  27. Julia London on 14 May 2008 at 10:17 am #

Well I guess I am in the minority here — I don’t think K-Ro has an innocent face. I think she has a very mischievous (where’s a copy editor when you need one–how is that spelled) glint in her eye and in her smile! But I would never get murder and mayhem from her face.

My ideas almost always start with characters. I can see someone walking down the street and begin to imagine their life. Or an idea for a character pops into my mind and I start playing with it. Plots are a whole different ball game. They come very slowly. Like molasses slow. So slow that I get impatient and start playing the what if game, but usually end up back at the same place I started. It has taken me a long time to realize that it will eventually come to me, but it has to percolate and brew awhile. its a very frustrating process!!

  28. Karen Rose on 14 May 2008 at 10:23 am #

I don’t think I have an innocent face either, Julia! And I have the wicked chuckle down to a science. Used to freak my vendors out when I worked at P&G, LOL.

My process is also slow and frustrating. It starts fast, then slows down. Then, when it hits, it’s like the wind, but getting there is like molasses, just like you say.

  29. cail on 14 May 2008 at 10:38 am #

    Innocent Face? WHAT?

I admit, Karen, I have yet to buck up the nerve to read one of your oh so scary books. I’m working on it. I’m just prone to nightmares, sadly. Seen too many horrific things to not think about them after reading such a thriller.

I get my inspiration from dreams, made up stories in my head, and real life experiences. Really, I LOVE plotting and creating characters, but NEVER actually end up creating a book, since I get bored after I’ve thought up the plot and ppl. One of the reasons I will never join your ranks as a best selling author.

Art on the other hand is something I LOVE. Anything beautiful to me will inspire me. I’m especially fond of my dearest. He’s fun to sketch in all his glory.

Julia. Download Firefox. It has a built in spell check that will make your life complete.

  30. Karen Rose on 14 May 2008 at 10:53 am #

so Cail, when you sketch him in all his glory, do you mean ALL his glory? Is he FROS-worthy?

Inquiring, yet innocent minds must know.

  31. Kathy/Cookiedough on 14 May 2008 at 11:00 am #

hmm, K-Ro, that doesn’t sound too innocent to me ! hahaha
but yeah tell us- how much glory is there, Cail?
    lol

  32. Nicole Jordan on 14 May 2008 at 11:02 am #

Congrats on your new release, KarenR! Can’t WAIT to read it! It sounds like wicked thrills. And do you want to tell us about the fab quote James Patterson gave SCREAM FOR ME??????

As for inspiration, I see scenes in my mind of my hero and heroine interacting, just like a movie. That’s the fun part about writing for me, trying to figure out how they got to that scene and where they go from there.

  33. cail on 14 May 2008 at 11:17 am #

oh yes. ALL his glory. An innocent afternoon of art (figure drawing) is actually what tipped the scales to move us from extremely close friends of 10 yrs to him being my one and only.

In my opinion yes, he is FROS worthy. But somehow I doubt I’d be able to get him to volunteer. Luckily he is what I wake up to on Sunday, my dearest sailor. The perfect leading man for this romance fan.

  34. Sheridan LA on 14 May 2008 at 11:21 am #

I have to admit, I will not be picking up Scream for Me for a bit.. I still have not read Die For Me… so when I am done with that one, then I am all over SFM… I was totally sucked into Don’t Tell and am now looking forward to starting my Karen Rose marathon. :D

Ideas? I have them all the time.. what I lack is the ability/discipline to make them a reality. *sigh* I get too distracted with everything else (oooh, something sparkly!)

I have delusions of being a writer.. and a painter.. and a jewelry maker.. and a quilter…and a photographer (though this one is more”do-able” since I work in the industry) and a designer… but alas, I go through short bursts in each, then move onto the next one… no discipline. I used to write down my dreams a lot for book/story ideas.. they were amazing stories - lots of intrigue and suspense.. but they remain in notebooks somewhere untouched.

  35. Kay on 14 May 2008 at 11:22 am #

Back to faces—-the cover of Scream For Me, and the new covers for your other books are amazing.

  36. Sheridan LA on 14 May 2008 at 11:22 am #

I am amazed that authors do actually try to answer that question..and somewhat seriously.. I would start making up random answers… :D

Where do you get your ideas?

    “aliens”
    “the little people”
    “my invisible twin”
“my cat tells me awesome adventure tales”
“I steal them from other people”
“I take over people’s brains and suck out their memories”

    yeah, I am bad.

  37. Julia London on 14 May 2008 at 11:35 am #

Cail, I have firefox. if nothing popped up, does that mean i spelled it correctly?

  38. Karen Rose on 14 May 2008 at 11:54 am #

oooh, I like the one about sucking out people’s memories!

Thanks, Kay! I love my new covers - the models are so beautiful!

Thanks, Nicole! That quote from James Patterson came through the CEO of Grand Central. We were talking about quotes and he said, “I’ll ask him.” He did and wow, what a quote! It found out about it a few weeks before Christmas - what a present!

  39. Suzanne Enoch on 14 May 2008 at 12:31 pm #

You totally look innocent and sweet, KarenR. The kind of gal who writes children’s books about puppies and butterflies. *g*

Like others, I seem to absorb ideas from everywhere. A line in a movie, a look between two people at the mall, a personality quirk from a historical biography. The trick is getting them to mesh into something coherent.

  40. Karen Hawkins on 14 May 2008 at 1:04 pm #

cail, I’m not a big scary book reader, either, but Karen’s books are suspenseful in a rally cool, neat way. You might be surprised at something or worried about the heroine’s safety, but since it’s a book, no one jumps out from behind the door to scare me. I really, REALLY enjoy her work and I think you will, too. And if you get too scared, you can put it away until you’re ready to go on.

  41. Kay on 14 May 2008 at 1:16 pm #

Cail, I’ll second Karen H. And remember that SCREAM FOR ME is Romantic Suspense. That means you get a great steamy romance and HEA along with the suspense.

  42. amy1242 on 14 May 2008 at 2:09 pm #

Not always the HEA Kay. What about Evie? I’m on Nothing to Fear right now and I can feel it in my bones that Evie’s got something coming…Again!
Karen, I picked your new book up yesterday and can’t wait to read it. I’m kind of reading them out of order, but I’m quick on the up-take! So far I’m enjoying all of them. Love your writing and the way your mind works. Innocent as you are and all!!

  43. amy1242 on 14 May 2008 at 2:17 pm #

Where do I get my inspiration? Well, because I’m not a writer, I get it from all you authors out there. You inspire me and take me to a happy place when I’m sad or frustrated. You make me laugh, give me things to think about and sometimes make me check over my shoulder on a creepy, dark night when I hear an odd sound. Thank you! All of you! I love this blog!!

  44. Kay on 14 May 2008 at 2:17 pm #

amy1242, I mean HEA with the main Hero and Heroine. There are the maimed and dead left in the wake of the villains. There is also a loose end or two for the next wonderful book….which won’t be published soon enough to suit me. :-)

  45. amy1242 on 14 May 2008 at 2:25 pm #

LOL, Kay! I can’t wait to put the kids to bed tonight so I can read the next few chapters in NtF! “Maimed an dead left in the wake of the villians.” Now I know why you and Karen are such good friends!

  46. Paula on 14 May 2008 at 3:04 pm #

I don’t write, paint sing or play sports, so other than a slob !! I don’t know what that makes me?. I love gardening and get my inspiration from the lovely weather we are having at the moment. I also get my inspiration for reading books from all you lovely ladies and the wonderful books that you write. chocolate sounds like a perfect incentive to me.
KarenR I have seen the trailer for Scream For Me but as yet I haven’t seen it out here in the UK yet. I was in my local Waterstones today and they didn’t have it. So I will have to wait with anticipated breath until I can find it.

  47. Aly on 14 May 2008 at 4:13 pm #

I have to be one of the least creative people in the world therefore I have no inspiration! And that is the truth! LOL!

Karen, you have a very innocent face which is very scary considering what your brain comes up with and your hands then spit out into your books! :)

And I have been Screaming For ME because your book is yet to be found near me and it is driving me insane! I am lucky that I haven’t pulled my hair out ;)

  48. Judy F on 14 May 2008 at 5:02 pm #

I have seen your sweet innocent pure of heart face in person. How’s that. LOL

I have to wait till friday to get your book. Car repairs broke me till payday. I am bummed. Melissa can’t wait to read it either.

I am not a writer nor do I have a creative bone in my body. I know from working at the bookstore that funny, kind and patient people inspire me. Nothing makes me try to please someone more when I tell them I will be with them in a minute and they say I see you are busy no hurry.

    Congrats on the new release.

  49. Karen Rose on 14 May 2008 at 5:10 pm #

Y’all are so sweet! I’m not so innocent, truly, but y’all go on thinking this :-)

Amy - you’re right that Evie gets it…again. But don’t you worry too much about her. I have it from a reliable source that she ends up okay, and maybe will even get her own book, hint, hint.

Paula - the release date in the UK is 15 May, so that’s tomorrow! You can see the trailer on my website at http://www.karenrosebooks.com - just scroll down a little bit.

More thanks to Kay. Your check is in the mail.

Judy - I’m sorry you have to wait till Friday!

Cail, listen to KarenH. She is wise. Go get the book. And if you get too scared, turn to your FROS worthy honey to keep you safe. Or to burn off all the … y’know … urges after reading the sex scene, LOL.

Did I mention the SEX SCENE is excerpted in July’s Cosmo?

Aly - ack! I hope it shows up soon!!! Or we’ll have to send out a posse.

All for now. I’m on the road again - this time near Ft. Lauderdale signing books at Murder on the Beach - a mystery bookstore … on the beach.

I’ll be back later with a tale I recalled while driving down and listening to my Garth Brooks CD. It’s a sweet story and inspired my novella a few years back. Gotta go! Must spackle my face on, so I look both innocent and presentable!

    ok I just got inspired!!!
I just got home from a 6th grade production of Annie; my darling Laura- she of the amazing pics- was the evil Miss Hannigan!
    Wow!
Amazing talents from the whole cast!
the Annie was spectacular of voice. I have no idea what it inspires in me right now, other than to be singing “You’re never fully dressed without a smile” while I took out the garbage!

Watching other people cook inspires me.

Unfortunately, it inspires me to eat!

Poor KarenR. Viewing an autopsy you hadn’t planned on seeing. Yikes. I’m afraid people would have had to step around, over, on me as I would be laid out in blissful unconciousness.
I have watch “Dr. G; Medical Examiner” a few times on Discovery Health Channel. They don’t show gruesome stuff but it’s interesting listening to her talk about the autopsies. She seems to have a passion for her job.
Unfortunately, Discovery Health and it’s kin tend to run the same show over and over. And I tend to tune in to that same show on the rare occasion I turn it on. Usually in the very same spot I saw it before. Uncanny.

    Have a good time, Karen.

Karen, peep show boxes used to be for children, kind of their version of a viewmaster: a box with a scene at one end, stuff in the middle to give it a 3D effect and light coming in through the back to illuminate everything.

Of course, I did have to throw in a couple of erotic ones, too. Hey, you have a innocent face; I have a dirty mind. What can I say?

I get the “you look too nice to write such wicked books” line a lot myself. People start reading my books (like my son’s teachers), then tell me they had “no idea I had all that in my head.”

Who knew that the key requirement for liking to write about hot guys (or murder and mayhem) is a wicked face? :-)

Children, really? I thought it was olde tyme stryppe shows, LOL. Is this the same as a stereo-opticon?

Judy - David’s story is coming!

Tina - hope you enjoy it!

Cail, snuggle up to your honey as you read the book!

  62. TinaLouiseF on 14 May 2008 at 9:54 pm #

I keep getting interrupted, so I’m only on page 117, but I’m enjoying it so far.

  63. Karen Rose on 14 May 2008 at 9:54 pm #

I was going to tell a last tale behind the tale, but I think given the late hour, I’ll save it for another blog!

I finally finished tonight; I had to actually work on a project at work. Great story, loved the surprise person.

Hey Karen, Loved the new book! I got it the same day it came out and I couldn’t put it down. I wanted to ask you something, Is Susannah going to have a book too? because I felt that she still has alot of issues to work out. Can you tell us when your next book will be out?

    Keep up the good work,
