My Ideal Planet

If you’ve ever watched Stargate: SG1, you know that the characters spend their days stepping through a stable worm-hole type thing and stepping out the other side onto another planet. Different colors, different temperatures, really weird creatures, Dom DeLuise – they’ve seen it all.

So this got me to thinking. If I could design a planet, what would I include? What would I exclude?

I’d definitely want oceans and mountains, because who wants to look at just flat everywhere? No deserts, because they’re too hot and dry. No marshes or bogs, because they’re too soggy. Lots of trees and meadows, and winged cute furry things with pretty singing voices. Some cute, furry, non-dangerous land animals would be nice, but I could do without bugs and bitey things.

Oh, and I’d want the ground to be purple, because I look good in purple. And maybe the oceans could be iridescent, and the fish would be white and black. That would look cool.

And I wouldn’t name my planet anything like Earth. Come on. Who thought that up? I would name my planet…Suzannicus. Or Enochopia. Or Avalon, maybe, if I was feeling more high-brow.

What particular thing would you like to see on your very own planet? What would you call your planet? And what would the weather be like?

    Great idea Suzanne,a personal planet!
My Planet, Draconia, would have mountains and rivers and oceans. There would be dragons of all kinds in my world. My favorite being an iridescent green and blue winged dragon.
I think I would have most of the animals that are on earth except crocodiles, alligators, and insects. I don’t like anything that has more than four legs so spiders and such are out of the question.
The weather is always good in Draconia, the snow is never too cold and there are no heat spells. The sun shines nicely but not bright enough to kill vampires. Very important, since I am a card carrying member of the AVA (American Vampire Association) Local #32.
Money does not exist on Draconia we have a barter system. We have an endless supply of books and music.
I’ll have to give some more thought to what is on my planet.

Well, in case of nature, I fully join Suzanne and evlqn. I’m definitely the wild-and-untouched-wilderness-type. I’d love to have some magical creatures there, like dragons or unicorns, but nothing like witches or so for I’d have a great inferiority complex beneath them…
Some nice guys maybe who are quite nearsighted and take me to be the most beautiful woman in the world (okay, okay, only one would be enough, I’m very modest :)).
Sweets gratis - and some that don’t thicken you!
    And no taxes.
Spring would be full of blooming flowers, summer comfortably warm, but not hot, autumn with hundreds of colourful falling leaves and metres of soft snow at Christmas. Romantic, isn’t it? Sigh.
And as all that will never ever come true (especially the thing with the sweets!), I’d call my planet “Utopia”. *g*

Though I think an Eden type of planet might be interesting, I have to say, I would still like a balance - some good, some evil - but balanced. There would be still the 4 seasons, because I find that people who lack the change do not appreciate them for what they are. (LA is “sunny and 72″ there are no seasons… it is taken for granted.) That way you can appreciate the crisp feeling of the first cool days of fall, the joy of the first snow of the season fall, the excitement of the crocus popping out of snow and the warmth toasting your body as summer hits.

Oceans, Mountains, forests, jungles… Basically a lot of what we have now, but with a “ruling” species the respects the planet and a symbiotic relationship with everything living.

Not too imaginative, but I think we have it pretty good here - just got a bit skewed along the way… Now, if you could add in the mythical creatures and the ability to fly… then we are talking :D

oh.. and Hugh Jackman, Patrick Dempsey and George Clooney available to clone at will…… ;) :D

geat idea…I have to think long and hard before I answer…and must drink my morning mocha

I want one! Me, me! Love the iridescent ocean idea. How cool would that be? I would want longer days and shorter nights all the time. Night is lovely, but I think there’d be a LOT less crime with less night. Hmm, wonder if that’s borne out anywhere in statistics?

I’m torn on the four seasons, though. I really hate winter, but I do get tired of constant summer, having grown up in such a climate.

I don’t mind bugs, but no roaches. I’d like animals that talk. I’d just love to know what they’re thinking. Or maybe talk only occasionally. Not sure I could stand the constant chatter.

I wouldn’t mind a few mythical creatures, as long as they didn’t eat anybody.

What would I call it? Home! :-)

Ohhhh! Sheridan! Free Hugh for all! I love it! And him. Especially him.

Karenonia would be full of mountains (but passable valleys here and there to make transit easy), lots of waterways and rivers and oceans and lakes because you can never have too many of those. We’d have CC weather — that’s Climate Controlled where we’d all be able to set the weather like a therostat . . . feeling the need for a little rain shower? Just dial it in! Want a snuggle snow so you can curl up in bed and read the soon to be released Claudia Dain book, Courtesan’s Secret? Then break out the snow and grab a blanket!

I’d also have bugs because the birds need ‘em, but they’d all be afraid of humans so you’d never see them except butterflies who would have NO fear and would come and sit on your shoulder. I’d keep all of our animals except perhaps crocs and spiders and snakes. Those won’t be on my world. Oh, and no bats. But lots and lots of cute dogs and beautiful horses and maybe a unicorn or two!!!

My own personal planet….that would be too cool. I would have to have the 4 seasons but to be able to change into them whenever I wanted. I would definitely like to live in a planet like Dara Joy’s-Knight of a Trillion Stars. Especially with all the men like Lorgin, Rejar and Traed in it. Wow!!!!!

  9. cail on 19 Apr 2008 at 9:09 am #

Cailtopia would be mostly spring and fall. The way spring and fall are in the North East. There would be about 5-10 days of ‘winter’ and ’summer’ where the days are super hot/super cold.

the landscape would vary like it does on earth, with every part as cool and interesting as the one before it. the residents would be very careful not to hurt the environment, taking care to compost, recycle and use alternative energy. also, one would be able to teleport to get from place to place.

naturally, there would be a Mt Oly for all of us to hang out at.

  10. Suzanne Enoch on 19 Apr 2008 at 9:54 am #

Ooh, Cail, an actual Mt. Oly. I love it! Of course it would have an internal elevator and lots of helpful men to tote and carry and open pickle jars for us. Not slaves, though — they would volunteer just to be able to hang out with the goddesses.

  11. Meg on 19 Apr 2008 at 10:03 am #

I think I would like to have flying horses, like Pegasus. And maybe some friendly dragons. What a eco-friendly way of transportation! Lots of water. But none too dark and murky. All safe for swimming. I love the idea of an iridescent ocean! How pretty! I agree with not wanting to see flat land every which way you look, so there would be a mix of landscapes, but with easy passageways through the mountain areas. Fall and spring are my favorite seasons. I think they would be really long on my planet with short winter and summer seasons. The only thing I’m not sure of is the name. I don’t know that I would want it named after me.

  12. Lisa H on 19 Apr 2008 at 10:35 am #

Yes, I could definitely see myself designing a planet…let’s see…pink sky, against white grass, trees in soft pastel shades…the weather would be 70 - 75 all the time. Except in the Island of wonder where you could go for snowy adventures anytime.

It would only rain at night so that we could enjoy the benefits but not have to worry about getting our hair wet.

The breeze would smell like Estee Lauder’s Knowing and at night a musky smell would decend with the darkness. Only candles would be allowed after 10:00pm to help the planet romanticize and populate.

Johnny Depp would be my pool boy, and I wouldn’t change a thing about him.

    My planet’s name—Utopia of course!

  13. Suzanne Enoch on 19 Apr 2008 at 10:35 am #

I like the idea of dragons and unicorns and other mythical creatures — as long as they don’t want to eat me or my pals.

And yes, definitely a transporter — it would run on solar power and Enochopia’s air would be SO clean.

I’ve changed my mind about bugs — but the only ones I would allow would be dung-eaters. Little pooper scoopers. *g*

  14. Lisa H on 19 Apr 2008 at 10:35 am #

    oh, and waterfalls for everyone!

  15. Yasmin on 19 Apr 2008 at 11:57 am #

Yes I with you Lisa definetely waterfalls on my planet and books lots of books. i always liked that half bird and half horse from Harry Potter. I would also like dragons and unicorn but I alson love turtles so they would be their too. i like the colors of trees in autumn so that would be year

  16. Yasmin on 19 Apr 2008 at 12:01 pm #

I think for a name I would like may Yayanis or Yayandia ;) and there has to be lots of coffee and chai green tea available.

  17. Claudia Dain on 19 Apr 2008 at 5:08 pm #

Well, no rats for one thing. My planet would have no rats, no mice, no cockroaches, no scuttley things. Bugs are okay, if they stay on Bug Island. All the birds could fly there once a day for the free buffet and then spend the rest of the day flying around, singing and being pretty. Butterflies and lady bugs and termites excluded. Termites because they eat all the dead wood in the millions of acres of forest that cover my planet. Butterflies and lady bugs because they’re pretty. Oh, and lots of hummingbirds and blue birds and yellow finches flitting through the air. Birds give the air life!

On my planet ice cream is a health food and has 1 calorie per 5 gallons.

My planet would be called Verge, because it’s so green.

I’m thinking an island constructed like Willie Wonka’s chocolate room would be good. Grass, trees, rivers, all made of chocolate. And on MY planet they would be fat free.

  19. Yaya on 19 Apr 2008 at 6:48 pm #

Ohhhhhhh I like the idea about a Willie wonka type island and with a white chocolate waterfall. Very yummy!!

  20. Yaya on 19 Apr 2008 at 7:13 pm #

i just remember something I love penguins. I can watch March of the Penguins anytime and yes I cry when some of the baby chicks die.

  21. Karen Hawkins on 19 Apr 2008 at 7:38 pm #

OOOOHHHH! A chocolate river! I want one on Karenopia!!!

  22. Stonehawk on 20 Apr 2008 at 8:21 am #

I think my planet would have the name of Edenia which is a copy of Earth. Except not with those bad weather storms like hurricanes, tornados and whatever storms they are. Also the bugs on the planet will not see people as food like mosquitos and will ignore them by doing their business and stay outside people’s homes unlike those Lady bugs I keep squishing. All the animals on Edenia would be wild but see Humans as their friends and be friendly with them. There will be animal versions of Humans living with Humans who are intelligient to live like a Human preserving the planet and not trying to waste resources.
