Nicole JordanGoddess Readers Speak Out
Have you had any really cool stuff happen in your life? A friend told me that last week she actually took her three teenaged boys out of high school to attend a rally for one of the presidential candidates because she thought it might be an historic occasion and she wanted them to participate in history. Her kids weren’t thinking about history, she says. They just thought it was “cool” to see the political equivalent of a rock star. But I’m sure it’s something they’ll always remember.
I can remember attending my first rock concert. And then another concert where the opening act was a group I’d never heard of before, but who went on to achieve superstardom. One of my coolest memories was watching Swan Lake danced by the Paris Ballet in the courtyard of the Louvre Museum. I also will never forget my first time seeing the incredible Mikhail Baryshnikov dance, or going to the Atlanta Olympics and seeing the U.S. Showjumping team win the team silver.
But there are lots of cool things I still would love to do. I’ve never seen a play on Broadway, for example, even though I’ve seen countless plays and musicals that made it to Broadway.
Have you seen or done some Really Cool Stuff in your life? Is there more you would like to do?

I remember going to the train depot onour town to see Bobby Kennedy make a whistle stop on his way to Los Angeles. We were so excited that we heard him speak and so devasted a couple of days later when we heard he had been shot.
There is ,or was, a giant cube balanced on one point in the middle of a plaza in NYC. It has a large hole through it and on certain nights the moon shines through it making a spotlight. I danced in that spotlight once and it was great.
A week after my youngest son was born (33 on Friday) my husband took me to a Rolling Stones concert. It was hot and very loud and I was still very uncomfortable from delivering a bowling ball. He asked (shouted) how did I liked Mick Jagger. I replied(shouted) that I had trouble liking any guy who wore more makeup than me. Of course the music had just stopped as that little pearl left my lips. Stones fans are hostile!

Last week end we took my sister’s grandsons to see the harlem Globetrotters in Portland. This week at one of thier games the youngest boy scored a basket using a move he had seen Special K use. The people watching him do it were amazed. That was cool and I got it on tape!
I would love to see a Broadway play. I have seen several in LA and I got to see Douglas Fairbanks Jr play Henry Higgins at the Opera House in Reno.
And I want to go to Europe.

Nicole, I had the pleasure of seeing Baryshnikov dance. Truly an incredible experience!

I met and went party for Pink Floyd in 1987.
Mr Fros from a homegirl and I had just become friends and I went to visit him at one of his jobs. He was talking to a woman who turned out to be the wife of Pink Floyd’s personal manager. She and I hit it off and the 3 of us spent that summer together, going all over Toronto. The band likes to prep for world tours there.
Joanna invited us to a party just before the concert kick off. The band was there. I shook everyone’s hand. They offered us free tickets to the first show and we had a blast. She told us stories of the Cult, the Eurythmics and how she went to school with Marianne Faithful.
My brother was so jealous when I called home and told him I’d met the band
I was working as a hair styist then, but got along well with her children. She asked if I would come on tour and be her nanny, but I declined. Funny that I ended up coming back home and worked as a nanny for the last 20 yrs.
wonder what could have happened had I gone.

One cool thing that happened to me yesterday is that I got accepted in the Library and Information Technology course at NSCC.
43 and going back to school. yikes!

My dad took me to my first concert to see The Dave Clark Five, the first British group to tour the US. They’ll be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on March 10th. Very cool.
Last October I lived my dream of seeing a play on Broadway when I saw WICKED at the Gershwin Theater. Very cool.
I attended Mass at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Tres cool.
I attended a performance of Aida, under the stars, in an ancient ampitheater in Rome. Breathtaking.

Cookiedough, congrats on going back to school. That’s very cool!!

Two concerts come to mind: I saw Luther Vandross during his “Power Of Love” tour. What a phenomenal showman! And he sounded just like his CD’s…no electronic enhancement needed.
I also saw Ray Charles. The man had more energy than 10 people combined! The concert was during The Gulf War (1990-91), and when he sang America, The Beautiful, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. I have goose bumps now just thinking about it.
The fact that both of these gifted performers are no longer with us, makes my experience even more special.

I’ve done two really cool things in the past few months–I think I’ve shared one of them on here before. I talked to B.J. Novak (Ryan from The Office) on the telephone for a few minutes, and I danced on stage with Craig Robinson (Darryl from The Office) on New Year’s Eve. Well, CR was on the stage, and danced at the same time as me, but I danced with my boyfriend. CR did sing Jessie’s Girl to me, though (which was special even though the Jessie in the song is a guy).
I’ve been to NYC, which is by far the coolest city I’ve ever been to.
The other day I got a scholarship I didn’t know I had been nominated for. That was definitely cool- surprise money!
I’m hoping, though, that this summer is the coolest summer of my life so far. I’ll be applying for publishing internships at the big houses in NYC. I’m hoping beyound hope that I’ll get them, and then I will have something so awesomely cool I can’t even imagine to tell.

My sister used to work in NYC for a printing company and one of their accounts was MTV. She worked on the program guide for the 2nd Annual MTV Video Awards. After completing the job, she was asked if she wanted tickets to the awards show or the party afterwards. Of course she took the tickets for the party. It was held at the Paladium and it was very cool walking up the red carpet to the doors, tickets in hand. We had such an awesome night and met so many people that night, stars and the original VJ’s. It was a night I will never forget!
evlqn - you made me smile with your dancing in the moonlight comment. How cool!

Congrats Kathy/Cookiedough! How exciting! And probably a little nervewracking.
Gannon, I would LOVE to see Baryshnikov dance. I’ve had an uber crush on him since I was 14. Some day you’ll have to tell me all about it….
Have to go think about the cool events in my life…I’m still hot imagining MB LIVE.

Jessie - congrats to you too on your scholarship!

Congrats Cookiedough!
Living and Working in NYC has given me quite a few opportunities to do really cool things. To name a few:
Was at a restaurant in Times Sq with a college roommate and overheard the two guys at the next table talking about some cool theatery stuff. As a theater major at college at the time it piqued my interested, and I didn’t realize how obviously I was listening in. One of them called me out on it, and we proceeded to become friends. Lo and behold they both worked on one of my fav broadway shows that was running at the time, and it was closing night. They offered to give us a full backstage tour of the theater, then invited us to sit and watch the final performance in the lighting booth. That was awesome.
Hung out with the band members of Flogging Molly after a friend interviewed them for a paper in college.
Volunteered with Yankees Hall of Famer Goose Gossage who gave me an autographed picture.
Zip lined through the rain forest in costa rica.

YOU GO, COOKIEDOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nicole, when I was a little girl I went to an elementary school across the street from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. One day we had a surprise assembly and the speaker was one of the astronauts who’d gone to the moon. He kept us spellbound for an hour with tales of his moonwalk. So cool. Then he brought out this airplane model, kind of thick through the middle. He said soon astronauts would go into space and fly home in this airplane, not a rocket and no more water splashdowns. We chuckled, thinking it was a joke.
It was a model of the space shuttle and the year was 1972. I remembered that when I sat, spellbound, watching the first space shuttle land, years later.

I can remember President Kennedy coming to town and there was a parade in his honor. I stood on the street in my Girl Scout uniform and felt I was in the presence of greatness. I’ll never forget it.
Then I got to hug Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) from the original Star Trek at a convention. She was promoting women in NASA. An amazing person.

As it happens, I have seen a few Broadway plays. One of the perks in living not too far from NYC.
One memorable week in October 1980, I saw “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” with Fanny Brice. I entertained the people around me by telling them it was based on a true story & I remembered The Chicken Ranch. Lots of questions at intermission.
Same week, my DD & I saw “42nd Street”. Gower Champion had died on opening night. You haven’t lived till you’ve seen 40 people tap dancing their hearts out in rhythm & never missing a beat.
While standing in line at Ticketron, we saw a skywriter high over the streets of NYC writing Happy Birthday John. Yoko Ono’s tribute to John Lennon on his birthday. 2 months later, he was murdered.

There are lots of things I’d like to do before my sands run out. I think that a person needs to dream or not really be living. Whether I get to do them or not, I still have the dream and the plan. Actually, I have done the thing many times in my dreams.
I would like to go to Wales and Scotland. I want to sit on a rock somewhere in the Shetland Islands. Just soaking up history. Don’t need a guided tour. In Wales, I would take the guide. I know very little of Wales except that my grandfather’s name of Powell is of Welsh extraction. I feel a pull to there, for some reason.
I would like to take a trip by canal boat in France & England. I’d like to meed the people in Iceland and see the volcanoes.
LOL I guess what I want is to travel. I need to win the lottery.

I’d have to say and I am still on my high about seeing the article that I wrote about Kasey Michaels, in last months, Romantic Times magazine.
Not to go off topic but I have a quick question for the goddesses just out of curiosity…..I just finished an ARC by Andrea Kane-Twisted. It was Excellent. The villain in the story is an obsessed stalker, serial killer and a sexual predator madman who is kidnapping collecting woman as he calls them “his goddesses” for his journey to Mount Olympus. When he kidnaps them he already has decided which specific goddess they will be. My question is: Which Goddess do you consider that you resemble and would like to be like?
SnikyWhite on 05 Mar 2008 at 9:32 am #
My first genuine rock concert and went to the Lakewood Amphitheater in Atlanta to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Not only was this an amazing show, but while there two memorable things happened. As he sang “Free-falling” the spotlights behind the lawn seats lit up and there were cranes set up where people were bungee jumping AND a few moments later the concert was interrupted and this dude dressed as a psychodelic dragon came out carrying a phone. Tom answered it and announced to all that the Braves had won the penant! WOOHOO!!!
Other cool things have been seeing Phantom of the Opera, taking my kid to see her first Red Sox game (happening this Saturday btw) and of course seeing Rascal Flatts and having Gary sing right to me. I’m talking about eye contact baby. *swoon*
As for my list of want to-go places…it would take weeks. But there is a trip being planned with a friend of mine to drive from Lost (Oregon) to Found (PA). True story.
KariE on 05 Mar 2008 at 9:40 am #
One of my cool moments was when I got to meet Tim McGraw. My girlfriend and I won backstage passes to meet him during the Geroge Strait Country Music Festival about 10 years ago. It was awesome to say the least.
Since I am such and avid music lover and try to go to as many shows as I can, every one I go to is cool it it’s own way.
My favorite Broadway show was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoats. Donny Osmand was supposed to play Joseph but he was ill so it was played by his understudy. Donny did come on stage afterwards and wave to everyone which totally made my day.
SnikyWhite on 05 Mar 2008 at 9:41 am #
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention getting to see Cats (off broadway of course) and as for personal achievement, having my poetry published for the first time will always be on of those “moments” ya know?

Congrats, Cookiedough and Jessie! How exciting for both of you!

Some very cool happenings.
For attending events, my cool happening is going to see Gilda Radner on broadway with my mom who appreciated what a fan I was.
My coolest happening was meeting Jacky. I got to wait on her and she actually asked if she was wearing her bag with the right type of outfit.
I’ve also been lucky enough to attend a couple of Paris fashion shows which was surreal - they were menwear shows but still very unexpected to even be there.
Kathy, very cool experience backstage.

I see the Onassis got deleted from my submission above. Guess that deletion kind of deflates the tale. I’m not author, but I’m pretty sure that bad storytelling.
Claudia Dain on 05 Mar 2008 at 9:57 am #
Go, Kathy! Good luck!
Nicole, I was reading your list of cool stuff and thinking that my life has been so boring, so empty! And then you got to the part about Broadway plays and I felt better. *G*
I have seen a ton of plays on Broadway, courtesy of my mom. I saw Debbie Reynolds in Irene. I saw Ethel Merman in Hello Dolly. I saw Dick Van Dyke in Music Man (in L.A.). I heard the song I’ve Gotta Be Me sung in its original context—a play called Golden Rainbows, on Broadway. I saw Angela Lansbury in Sweeney Todd.
I’ve also seen Frank Sinatra perform live in L.A., which was a major thrill. I saw Liza Minnelli perform two nights in a row, sitting in seats so close to the stage that you got to them *from backstage*. Major thrill. And let me tell you, those two can PERFORM.
KariE, I heard that Donny Osmond was amazing in Joseph/Dreamcoat; how classy of him to give the folks a glimpse, even sick.
Can you tell I love the performing arts?
freshechelle on 05 Mar 2008 at 10:02 am #
Sniky, can I add my favorite adjective to your rascal flatts encounter? “Meaningful” eye contact. That was the phrase I use when we used to go to Mets batting practice back when mike piazza was kind of cute.
doglady on 05 Mar 2008 at 10:02 am #
Go Cookiedough! Congrats Jessie. My voice has taken me so many cool places and allowed me to do so much. Being in Anne Frank’s house was a humbling experience. Singing at Auchswitz was too. I got to touch Mozart’s harpsichord. I’ve been to a castle reputed to be a home of Vlad the Impaler in the mountains of Transylvania. I’ve seen sunrise at Stonehenge and Loch Ness. Visited the Red Light district in Amsterdam. I sang at the Met (an audition, but it was the MET) I’ve met Vincent Price after seeing his one man show of Oscar Wilde. I told him he’d haunted my nightmares for years and he laughed that Vincent Price laugh of his. I’ve met Karen Hawkins which I think is WAY COOL! Met Stephanie Laurens too. I think all of my autographed books from the Goddesses are cool as well. Meeting any of the romance authors I love makes me feel like a teenager at a rock concert. I’ve met Rosa Parks, Dennis Quaid, Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Elly Ameling(singer)B.B.King, Leontyne Price.
Gannon on 05 Mar 2008 at 10:04 am #
My latest thrill was meeting Goddesses, Karen H and Sabrina at Celebration Romance! They are classy ladies and so much fun to be around. I also got to spend the weekend with my roomie, PJ, who was just a doll. And we all got to meet Meg at the book signing on Saturday. Could y’all feel the Goddess love coming your way?!
KariE on 05 Mar 2008 at 10:14 am #
I can’t believe all the cool things us Goddesses have done!!! It is neat to read all these things.
SnikyWhite on 05 Mar 2008 at 10:15 am #
Alright, I have finally caught up with everyone’s responses. Cookie, that is AWESOME! It’s never too late to learn something new! That’s wonderful!
Jessie - 2 things…LOVE the office and how cool to be sung to even if the genders were slightly askew? Also congrats on the scholarship! Surprise money is always the best kind!
Fresh - “Meaningful” is the word that was missing! LOL what would I do without you? also, adding the Onasis does make the Jacky more interesting for sure. Sorry I wasn’t there to pick that up for you like you did mine
Kasey on 05 Mar 2008 at 10:20 am #
I too have seen a broadway plan. When I was a senior in high school my class took a trip to NYC, whcih was so awesome. We saw Smoke Joe’s Cafe and Pam Tillis was staring in it that nigiht. It was really good, even if our seats were not the best.
I have been to a lot of country concerts but I will just list a few of my favorites. I saw Garth Brooks on his last tour back in 1997. I was in high school and it was a school night. It took us forever to get home from Sioux Falls because of a snow storm, but it was oh so worth it. Another favorite was when I was working I could sometimes get concert tickets through work for the civic center in town and I got 5th row tickets to see Brooks and Dunn and 8th row for Brad Paisley, very cool. I meet Mindy McCready after her concert one night. I also had awesome tickets to see Kenny Chesney last year. My sister and I were right off the stage in about the 7th row.
Kasey on 05 Mar 2008 at 10:24 am #
Other cool things would include, the gondola ride in Venice, climbing to the top of the Duomo in Florence, attempting to get to the top of the Statue of Liberty (the closed it off while we were in line and we only got to the pedestal), and the top of the Empire State Building (I didn’t meet any men up there like in Sleepless in Seattle though).
Karen Hawkins on 05 Mar 2008 at 10:31 am #
Cookiedough, WOOHOO on going back to school! How FUN! I bet you’ll love it!
Gannon, it was awesome meeting you and PJ, and seeing Meg (but not long enough!) at the book signing and after!
As for other incredible things I’ve have/want to do, I had the awesome honor to see BB King a few months ago when he opened his new club in Orlando. I was just in awe! I had goosebumps the whole time.
I’d like to continue to see more jazz and blues artists and, of course, I’d like to travel more. My DH and I want to take our kids to Scotland and Paris, eventually, too.
As for the goddess question from Elsie, I would be Diane, goddess of the hunt, because the second I was able, I’d hunt down and slaughter the fool who thought he could ‘force’ me to do anything. *bares teeth* GRRRRRR! I am NOT a victim, so he’d better watch out or I’ll go Mt. Oly on his arse!

CookieD and Jessie, that’s just the best. You go, goddessess!!!
Nicole Jordan on 05 Mar 2008 at 10:33 am #
Elsie, fun question about which goddess we would be!
I’d be Diana cause I figure she’s more of a tomboy, which is more my style, lol.

In spring, ‘97, I was flying from Milan to Helsinki at night. This was before 9/11. The pilot said, “THe view of Comet Hale-Bopp is amazing from the cockpit.” and he let us come up into the cockpit to view it!!!
Seeing that comet from 30,000 feet with no disruption of city lights or clouds… it was freaking amazing. THe pilot was cute, too.
Nicole Jordan on 05 Mar 2008 at 10:41 am #
Gannon and PJ, I’m glad you had such a fab time at Celebrate Romance. Sure wish I could have been there.
Yes, my friend Leanne is one of planners. She said y’all laughed non-stop. And that PJ’s baskets were the best!
Oh, and I forgot to mention that I first met Leanne at CR in Atlanta… I think it was ten years ago now. And we’ve been friends ever since. I moved to Utah, and then so did she, so we started going to lunch together every few months to talk about books and romance. She’s a real gem.
freshechelle on 05 Mar 2008 at 10:43 am #
Karen, that comet story is awesome, the original meaning of awesome.

Personally… I think watching my husband take out the garbage is as Really Cool as it gets!
And
What is The Thing that I’d really like to do?
I just wanna Go to the mall Without my DD, the Teenage Clothes Diva in tow.
You didn’t ask. But I’ll tell you anyway. The thing I fear the most?
Finding out that aforementioned Diva narked me out to that show. You know the one? It’s called What Not To Wear.

Some cool things I have seen:
I saw the sun rise over the top of storm clouds, the only good thing to come out of a flight that was supposed to take off at 9PM but was delayed until 3AM. The colors were so bright and beautiful and vibrant that it looked like God Almighty had spilled His paint box all over the sky!! UNFORGETTABLY GORGEOUS!!!!
I have seen Phantom on stage, as well as Cats. I saw an opera at the Met (La Traviata, my fave). I have seen many other opera, but this one was an experience I won’t ever forget.
I also spotted Meistro Seiji Ozawa in The Signature Room at the top of the Hancock Building in Chicago, thrilling since I think the man is a musical genious!
And I had an impromptu sitdown conversation with Stephen King RE his book, “Eyes of The Dragon,” an experience I will NEVER forget!!!

Evlqn - Dancing in a spotlight made by the Moon - now that’s COOL!
Congratulations - Kathy with a K, on going back to school!!!
Good Luck - Jessie, Hope you get a great internship!!!
Doglady - I stand in awe!!! Do you sing Opera??
All of you who have seen Broadway shows - I’m envious!!
Wow, what great memories all of you have - Very Cool!!
My first concert was Santana my senior year in HS (72-73). (Also the first time I was exposed to “shared smoking” - I did not share - wish I would have!!)
My other great Musical moment - hearing Celia Cruz sing. We went to a concert featuring a variety of salsa singers and she was amazing, I loved her voice.

Kathy and Jessie–WTG!! Kudos to you both.
KarenR–WOW. That is so wild! I can’t even imagine.
I’m pretty sure that only Suzie E will appreciate this one. *g* A few years ago we let our son stay home from school so he could watch the first showing of one of the Star Wars movies. He’d won tickets from a radio station and they had a big party at a local theatre. He was quite the SW fan and this was pretty exciting for him.
Someday I hope to meet and chat with Faith Hill just to tell her how I admire her. And I want to visit Versailles and walk through the Hall of Mirrors.
Freedom Writer on 05 Mar 2008 at 12:03 pm #
I had lunch with Ed McMahon when my brother was traveling with him on one of his Star Search tours. It was fun to see all the businessmen eating lunch and rubber necking to see Ed McMahon. We also got to see his tour bus, which was rumored to belong to Michael Bolton. Ed was just borrowing it.
Another time when my DH and I were visiting my brothers in LA we got to go to the studio of Stan Winston. He did makeup and special effects for movies like Terminator, and Jurassic Park. At the time we went in 1996, the studio was working on the dinosaurs for the second JP movie. We got to touch one of the T-Rex heads, and we saw all of the storyboards for the movie. It was awesome. We even had to sign releases saying that we would tell anybody about anything we saw that day. OOps, I hope I’m not in trouble

I’ve been lucky enough to live overseas twice. The first time in Bahrain—a small island off the coast of Saudi Arabia. The people there were so friendly and giving. This was over 10 years ago, so I’m not sure what it would be like now. We were able to visit Egypt and see the Pyramids, the Sphinx and travel to Luxor to the Valley of The Kings. Someday I would love to go back. The coolest thing about living in Bahrain was that the COLA (cost of living allowance) was so big, that we were able to live in an amazing house on the Persian Gulf and have a live in maid/nanny. *sigh* I really miss her!
A few years ago, we lived in Italy, which enabled us to travel all over Europe: Prague, Greece, England, Scotland, Germany, and Paris, and of course, much of Italy. Kim, I hope you do get to go to Versailles and stand in the Hall of Mirrors. It’s an unbelievable place! There were so many wonderful things we saw, it would be hard to choose a favorite.

Go Cookie Dough! I went back to school at 37. It was fun and enjoyable!
doglady- you met Pavoratti—I loved him. I’m so sad I will never get to attend one of his concerts.
I have flown to Paris for the weekend–awesome
Went to the Louvre - double awesome
I have seen Phantom and Cats - loved them both
I have been to Sedona Arizona and the Grand Canyon- both breathtaking
I have given birth 3 times - miracles!
I would love to travel more, meet you goddesses someday (and handmaiden Kim who is more like an angel) Also I’d like to meet Lisa Kleypas and Christina Dodd - I think we’d laugh the whole time
I would like to go skinny dipping on some exotic Island, and visit “David” in Florence, I’d like to find my book(s) on the NYTimes Bestseller List And I’d really like to meet and kiss Johnny Depp (big surprise there!)

I’ve been to a lot of concerts, but the most awesome concert I’ve ever been to was Aerosmith. I’ve had a major crush on Steven Tyler for about 30 years and we got really close.
I’d like to visit Italy.

Doglady, I hope this isn’t sacriledge, but I saw Yes Georgio a few weeks ago and didn’t hate it. When Pavoratti sang, it was heavenly. His acting wasn’t bad. His character of course was a philadering adulterous pig, but two out of three ain’t bad.
I’ve seen Phantom in NY - it was very memorable. I saw Avenue Q and laughed so hard I thought I’d die. Which to do a second time? I’m afraid laughs over splendor - I’m seeing Avenue Q again. “It sucks to be me!” Not really, that’s a line from the show, LOL.
The comet was very cool. Like diamonds in the sky. And, duh on me, of course 1997 was before 2001. Sorry! What I meant was that the airline procedures were far more relaxed then. I don’t think you could get into the cockpit of any airline now.
Gannon, sigh! Oh to see the Valley of the Kings. I also want to see Pompeii. Love the old stuff.
Kim, when you meet Faith Hill, give her my regards. From everything I read, she’s got her act together.

I’ve toured Philly, the history in nearly every stone gave me goosebumps!
I won a buckle my first year reining, on my first reining horse *VBG*
I’ve met Sherrilyn Kenyon, and spent a week at Pamela Clare’s house
I’ve rafted the Rogue river, jet-boated the Snake river, and sky-dived out of a perfectly good airplane *sigh*
Driven through nearly every state and seen many of their treasures
I’ve given birth twice, and assisted in the births of 5 of my own horses. Miracles indeed!
I want to go to Pearl Harbor, Australia, and New Zealand, I want to grow old with my husband, see my children grown and happily where they want to be.
Very cool topic Nicole, served as a reminder of all the thousands of blessings I’ve enjoyed, and continue to enjoy!

I used to work in a concert venue so I’ve seen alot of shows. Never got to see the stars (would have lost my job if I’d approached them) but I did get to see them walking around before the shows and doing sound checks, etc. Toby Keith, Brooks & Dunn and Kenny Chesney to name a few. And needless to say…..got to see the concerts for free!
Margaret, I too, would love to go to Wales and Scotland. My mothers family name was ‘Thomas’. Talk about a common name! lol
I would love to see a show on Broadway. Maybe someday!
I’ve travelled over most of the US but would love to see the 6 states I haven’t managed to get to yet.
And my two wonderful boys. Want to see them do well and be happy.

You goddesses have seen and done such amazing stuff! I would love to have seen that comet, KarenR. And see the Pyramids, Gannon. And help with birthing foals, Aimee.
And all those Broadway plays and other concerts…..
Sigh. Well, we can always dream, can’t we?
PJ on 05 Mar 2008 at 2:26 pm #
Nicole, I really enjoyed meeting Leanne, especially after exchanging emails with her for the past three months. She does an awesome job of planning a fabulous conference!
PJ on 05 Mar 2008 at 2:28 pm #
Being at CR this past weekend and meeting Gannon, Karen H., Sabrina and Meg was so cool. Oh, and I don’t want to leave out Karen H’s DH. You’ve got yourself a keeper, Karen!
What do I want to do next? Meet the rest of the Goddesses, of course!
PJ on 05 Mar 2008 at 2:37 pm #
Kim, I hope you one day will be standing in Versailles. It’s simply gorgeous.
Karen R, you must go to Pompeii. It’s an experience not to be missed. To stand there in the shadow of Mt. Vesuvius amidst the ruins (many amazingly well preserved) of what was once a thriving city, and walk the streets of boulders that are more than a thousand years old, one is infused with an incredible sense of what life was like for those who perished over those two days in August in the year 79AD.

Avenue Q is such a great musical! It was definitely one of my recent favorites. I love the song ‘its a fine fine line.’ I’ve been really lucky to see countless shows on Broadway in the many years i’ve lived in NYC. Ave Q is definitely the one i advise people to see right now.

Lisa H., Johnny Depp will be filming his movie Public Enemy in a town just 40 miles south of where I live. I just saw a notice for a casting call for extra, but alas, women need to be 5′8″ or under and I am too tall. (sigh) They start filming in mid March.
KariE on 05 Mar 2008 at 3:48 pm #
What city/state is this, Freedom Writer?? I’m a shorty!! (5′4″)
amy1242 on 05 Mar 2008 at 4:21 pm #
Freedom Writer, are they filming in Baraboo, Oshkosh or Racine first? I know they are headed to the northwoods sometime this summer. I wonder if they are in need of a 5′6″, 44 yo woman. I bet those dresses make a persons butt look big, though. KariE, that’s in Wisconsin. You’re all invited to stay at my house if you make the cut.
Karen Hawkins on 05 Mar 2008 at 4:28 pm #
I’ll come! I’m under 5′6″! Actually, I’d need to borrow some inches to get there. And I PROMISE to make him look tall. I PROMISE.
What’s Public Enemy about? Anyone know? Depp always takes such chances with his films. He’s brilliant that way.
KariE on 05 Mar 2008 at 4:45 pm #
Thanks amy1242! Is there still snow on the ground mid March?? I’m allergic to snow. :p
PJ on 05 Mar 2008 at 4:48 pm #
Karen, Public Enemy is about John Dillinger, famous bank robber in the early 30s.
An interesting aside… My dad and his friends (they were about 7) were playing by the railroad tracks near the river outside their small town in southwest Michigan when they stumbled upon a man washing dye out of his hair. They asked what he was doing and he told them to scram. They were curious kids and pretty accomplished at getting into mischief themselves but when they noticed the gun and money bags on the ground they took off. Turns out their mystery man was John Dillinger and he and his gang had just robbed a Chicago bank and killed a police officer.
Freedom Writer on 05 Mar 2008 at 5:15 pm #
The production crew looked at several sites in Wisconsin, and as far as I know Columbus, WI is the one town in this area of Wisconsin where they will be filming. They are doing the casting call in Milwaukee this Friday, March 7th from 4-7 pm. In addition to height requirements the women have to be dressed in a dark dress and overcoat.
Dillinger also had a hideout in northern Wisconsin and they will be filming in that area as well. I know they start shooting in mid March, but I don’t know when they will be in this area. Christian Bale is also going to be in this film and the correct title is “Public Enemies”

My college choir got to sing for the Pope (and everyone else in the Plaza) in the summer of 1982. I climbed the outside of ‘Il Duomo’ in Milan that same summer.
I went to see the first runs of ‘A Chorus Line’ and ‘Sweeny Todd’ on Broadway. I saw ‘Les Mis’ twice and would see it again in a heartbeat.
Congrats to Cookiedough on going back to school! YOU GO GIRL!
After seeing ‘Monster in a Box’ with Spaulding Gray in the movie theatre, my husband and I then went on to see every one man show Gray Spaulding ever did. He was a brilliant performer.
Gannon on 05 Mar 2008 at 5:34 pm #
PJ, what a cool story about your dad’s encounter with John Dillinger!
jessie on 05 Mar 2008 at 5:42 pm #
Wow! Everyone has done such cool stuff. SnikyWhite–your Braves one is by far my favorite. Would that pennant happen to be the miracle year one? Because that would be amazing.
Also, thanks to everyone for the congrats and well wishes!
cail on 05 Mar 2008 at 5:48 pm #
PJ! That so SO freaking cool!
amy1242 on 05 Mar 2008 at 6:03 pm #
Where will it be in Milwaukee Free? Maybe I’ll check it out. I mean, you don’t really have to act right? Just walk down the street or something, like you’re minding your own business. I can do that!
PJ, great story!
DebMarlowe on 05 Mar 2008 at 6:05 pm #
Wow, lots of goddesses have had a brush with greatness!
Hmmm, well, my cps have both hit the NYT! If I’m lucky it will rub off…
I’ve traveled to some beautiful places. I’ve seen shows on Broadway. Big River gave me shivers! But I have to get hoppin’ to catch up to some of you guys!
Judy F on 05 Mar 2008 at 6:21 pm #
My most recent thrill (a few years ago) was getting to met James Denton from Desperate Housewives two friends Dianne Castell and LuAnn Mclane bidded on an evening with James at a reds game and they asked me if I wanted to come. It was in a private suite. I will never get to do something like that again. he was a truely nice guy.
I did see a Chorus Line on Broadway.
My favorite concert I have seen is Billy Joel.
My favorite singer that I have met is Huey Lewis.
Karen Hawkins on 05 Mar 2008 at 6:22 pm #
PJ, how COOL! I can’t wait to see that now. I just saw a biography on Dillinger the other day and about how they found money buried by a river and so just know he is alive . . . although if he was, why didn’t he take all of it?
And Deb, what’s a cps?
Gannon on 05 Mar 2008 at 6:26 pm #
Karen, I’m guessing that Deb means critique partners, since Sabrina is on the NYT, and I know she’s Deb’s critique partner.
Claudia Dain on 05 Mar 2008 at 6:50 pm #
I’ll answer for Deb since I speak her lingo…cps=critique partners.
Kim on 05 Mar 2008 at 6:51 pm #
Our local news said that Johnny will be filming part of Public Enemies here in Indiana too. I don’t think it will be close to us though. Cool little tidbit, our town is one of those towns that has the courthouse right in the center of town. There is a small police watch tower on the one corner that was built specifically for John Dillinger. It faced the two big banks in town at the time. And they say that him and his gang drove through town at one time.

Jessie…I was living in Georgia in 1991-92 so it was the miracle year. Everyone had Braves fever and you couldn’t walk in any store without being smacked in the face by Braves’ memorabilia. It was an AWESOME time to live in Georgia and I will NEVER forget the sound of that crowd when Tom announced it…it was AMAZING!
Kay on 05 Mar 2008 at 7:03 pm #
What a cool group of goddesses.
I have white-water rafted the grand canyon –it was my DH’s 40th birthday present. He wants to go back for his 50th. We saw cool petroglyphs and ancient cliff dwellings.
DH & I climbed to the top of Gibralter–the gondola was closed due to wind and we were too cheap for a taxi. Did I mention I’m afraid of heights?
We had 5th row tickets to see the Three Tenors. I was close enough to see Pavarotti sweat–and he sang my favorite aria. I can die happy–LOL.
Kay on 05 Mar 2008 at 7:04 pm #
KariE–we had 1 1/2 inches of snow last night.
It should get above 40 next week, though.
Sabrina Jeffries on 05 Mar 2008 at 7:28 pm #
Yeah, Liz Carlyle is Deb’s other critique partner. We love her!!
Gannon and PJ brought us prezzies, too, which made it even more special (I love prezzies). PJ needs to start her own bakery–she made chocolates and pretzels from scratch! They were delicious, of course. Gannon brought us drink holders that say “Southern Ladies Under Tremendous Stress” (S.L.U.T.S). I love it!
It’s weird, but although I’ve traveled the world over, I haven’t ever met any big celebrities. The closest I got was meeting Randall Wallace at a Pocket dinner a few years back (he was the screenwriter for Braveheart and We Were Soldiers). Julia and I were sitting next to each other, and all the Pocket higher-ups were making a big deal out of this guy and she kept whispering, “Who is he?” and I kept saying, “I don’t know!” in this panicked voice. Finally, one of the editors explained who he was. He was very cool, I have to say.
Nicole Jordan on 05 Mar 2008 at 7:37 pm #
KariE, I had to laugh. I think I’m allergic to snow, too. Which is not a good thing when you live at a ski resort.
Free, that is so cool about the JD’s movie! And PJ, that story about your dad meeting Dillinger. Wow.
Santa and Judy, A Chorus Line is one of my all time faves!
And Snik, I lived in Atlanta back during the Braves miricle years, too! Wasn’t that fun? I was lucky enough to have a bro in law who did the techincal direction for CBS Sports and all the baseball games at the time. So he managed to snag tickets for the playoffs and the World Series several time. I’m not even a huge bsball fan, but I sure did love the spirit that generated for the entire city.
Nicole Jordan on 05 Mar 2008 at 7:39 pm #
Wow, Kay, the GC and Gibralter both. That must have been splendid.
And….
“Southern Ladies Under Tremendous Stress” (S.L.U.T.S). I love it!
This is great, Gannon and Sabrina, lol!!
Kathy/Cookiedough on 05 Mar 2008 at 7:42 pm #
wow! I come back to see all the cool things you have done!
well done us!
and thanks for all the encouraging words!
KariE on 05 Mar 2008 at 9:03 pm #
Since I lived in Michigan for a measly 19 years, I have paid my dues to the snow god. Although, I recall hearing on the news that Orlando did get snow briefly last year. I’m sure Karen H. could attest to that. I will enjoy snow in pictures and on video.
(I wonder if Lisa H. has got her plane ticket to Wisconsin yet.)
SnikyWhite on 06 Mar 2008 at 8:57 am #
Nicole - there was a certain static in the air and everyone had something in common and talked to everyone else. It was a great time to be in Atlanta and something I will always be thankful to experience.
