Love it! Will’s was getting a little cocky, I’m glad you put him in his place! ha-ha!
My daughter is sick today with the flu. I had plans to get my copy of your new book right after work at 1pm. I’m crying now because I have to wait till after work tomorrow! If I didn’t have to drive over 45 min to get to a bookstore I could nip right up to the store this morning! Jody comes 1st though, so we’ll be laying around the house impatiently waiting for tomorrow!!!!
Yes, Will tends to be cocky. You’ve got to watch him. He’s a sneaky little guy, very full of himself. It’s the big head, you know. He can’t help himself.
BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Sabrina, you rock! That’s a GREAT cartoon — and I have to say, I was thinking Jane needed to put him in his place. I didn’t think about you doing it! Very clever!
Can’t wait to read your book, m’dear! Off to get my copy at lunch!
Sabrina, these cartoons are great. Have you been watching Master Piece Theatre, PBS, new versions of all of Jane Austen’s works? They have been fantastic. They are currently replaying Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth. He is the only Mr. Darcy for me.
Yes, Elsie, I HAVE been watching them (I have the Firth one on DVD, though, so I haven’t been watching IT). I’ve really enjoyed them, although I think the Northanger Abbey one was the best of the lot.
Geez you are making me more and more behind. I am currently reading In the Prince’s Bed. I’m trying to get through all of your books. Man I wish I had more time to read.
You mean you don’t let each other read it? That’s horrible! There is no way I could listen to my critique partners talk about their story without kidnapping it to read.
Sabrina - I have it on my list of books to buy and very very soon I am going to be able to catch up on buying my favorite authors. Cause I got A NEW JOB!!!! It only took me 4 months of not working at all and 2 months of working at Target to finally find another office job. Yeah! And now that I will be making more money I will be able to afford to buy books again! Yeah! Happy Dance!!
Oh and those of you who remember I’m getting married….IT’S LESS THAN 2 MONTHS AWAY!!!!
Thanks! I am taking a Shakespeare class this semester. We are reading King Lear. Gross!
Anyway here are some great Shakespearian insults your Shakespeare may use.
Instructions: combine one word from each column:
artless base-court appple-john
bawdy bat-fowling baggage
beslubbering beef-witted barnacle
bootless beetle-headed bladder
churlish boil-brained boar-pig
cockered clapper-clawed bugbear
Okay way too many to type my favorite of my big long list is:
You Saucy Common-kissing harpy. I think it means tramp but with Shakespeare you just never know!
Hey this would be great for evil critics!
I like beslubbering, myself. *G* Thanks for sharing the insults, Aspen!
Marie, we don’t read each other’s books until they hit the shelves (my critique partners read them all along, of course, but they’re not part of the blog, well, except as visitors). We’re lucky we remember to put our clothes on straight!
Susan K, congrats on the new job AND the wedding! Wow, how do you do all that?
If Jane tires of Will and his “short man complex” I have a Captain Jack action figure who could put the smile back on her face, although, he has been shortend a bit by my 2 1/2 yearold. His legs are missing below the knee.
Anyway, that’d make him just about the right height for….
SusanK, welcome back!!! We missed you greatly. But huge congrats on your new job. I was just thinking of you and wondering how your wedding plans were going.
Elsie, I’ve been watching all the Masterpiece Classic Jane Austen offerings, too. And I think they’ve been really well done. I have the ColinF A&E version on video tape, but I still couldn’t resist taping the MC showings these past two weeks and watching them. They are just so great. Watched the proposal scene last night. Just adore that scene.
And Aspen, those Shakespearian sayings are hilarious! Thanks for sharing.
Nicole - Wedding plans are almost complete! Yeah! I will be so glad when the big day is finally here. And it’s great to be back! I’ve missed you guys and all the fun!
Nicole, good thing you’re recording the new broadcast of the older P&P. The A&E version was over-edited. Once I got the DVD, I discovered new stuff which can almost justify my obsessive repeat viewings. Can’t wait to see if there are new versions of Persuasion, Emma and S&S to come on PBS.
Sabrina, I’ll confess I’ve yet to read your novels but judging from your comic strip skill, I know I’m in for a rare treat. I’ll be swinging by a bookstore tomorrow to get your newest. Hope it’s a fast ride up the NYT list for you - and that you stay there a good long time!
I LOVE Bill and Jane’s Excellent Adventures. Too funny! Poor guy. It’s bad enough she is taller than he is - the fact that she is smarter must be entirely “the outside of enough!”
My writers’ group meets at our local bookstore tonight so I will pick up my copy of LSRL then! YAY!!!!! It will be all the more fun to read now that we know what Anthony looks like!
Yay! I loved the cartoon and am thrilled about the release! You have a real talent for cartoons, Sabrina, which is odd considering you’re a novelist. Condensing comedy into spare, pithy lines plus visuals is an artform! I guess it’s just another of the many facets of your talent. Which is, apparently, boundless!
Fresh, I didn’t know that about the A&E being over-edited. I did wonder about some bits in the DVD that I didn’t remember (I practically had my tape from the A&E one memorized by the time I bought the DVD). Glad you’re going to try one of my books–I hope you enjoy it!
Caren, trust me, my talent is not boundless. I can’t paint or draw. I always wanted to do a comic, but figured the lack of artistic ability would hamper me. Thank God for digital cameras! Oh, and Mac’s Comic Life program.
Sabrina, I’m just back from the bookstore and LET SLEEPING ROGUES LIE was everywhere! In the stacks, on the new release table, AND in a dump at the registers. So awesome!
>>>Nicole, good thing you’re recording the new broadcast of the older P&P. The A&E version was over-edited. Once I got the DVD, I discovered new stuff which can almost justify my obsessive repeat viewings.
I noticed that, Fresh! In the first two MC installments, there were quite a few little snippets and shots that weren’t in the original. I figured those were left out so A&E could get in more commercials. And while I don’t think their lack significantly affected the story, it was fun to see them this time around.

The new Persuasion was the very first MC redo a few weeks ago. Did you catch that? In fact, I liked it better than the Cyrian Hinds version, since he never did appeal to me as a hero. And since this is my second fave JA novel, I’m very particular about the storytelling and characters.
Can’t believe I missed the new version of Persuasion. That is my fave JA. I love the Amanda Root/C. Hinds version. They start of so bland in looks and personality and they blossom throughout the film. Guess I’ll have to hunt down this new version. Thanks for the heads up.
