We open our celebration week by welcoming back our first ever guest goddess blogger, Carly Phillips! A huge New York Times best-seller, Carly’s fresh and funny contemporaries have taken the romance world (and all of us on Mt. Oly!) by storm.

Everyone, say hello to the phenomenal Carly Phillips!

CARLY PHILLIPS TELLS IT LIKE IT IS

I was thrilled when the Goddesses asked me to return to the Mount! Of course, I’m not a Goddess in the real world. Far from it.

Let’s take an average day – like today – and let me show you what I mean:

jumbo-alarm-clock-detail.jpg
6:00 am: Alarm goes off. Yell for daughters to get up.
6:10 am: Yell again for daughters to get up.
6:20 am: Yell again, but this time, insist they each answer me so I know they’re up.
6:30 am: Get up and fix breakfast.headache.jpg
7:00 am: Daughters leave for school.
7:30 am: Shower and dress for 9:30 doctor’s appointment
8:30 am: Realize appointment is at 9 and rush madly around house.
9:00 am: Doctor’s appointment.flattire.jpg
9:21 am: Headache.
10:20 am: Dropped mother’s car off at gas station to get flat tire repaired.
11:00 am: Back home to do some paperwork
11:30 am: Plumber arrived to fix broken master bathroom toilet.
Noon: Lunch
12:15 pm: Oldest daughter called from school with bad headache.
12:30 pm: Drove to school to pick up daughter.
1:00 pm: Made important phone calls.pet_pics_19sfw.jpg
2:00 pm: Post office to mail important packages.
3:00 pm: To school to pick up other daughter.
4:00 pm: Got home as husband did. Drove him back to the gas station to get mother’s repaired car.
4:30 pm: Picked up youngest daughter for her doctor’s appointment.
5:45 pm: Headed home to make dinner.22613971.jpg
5:50 pm: Found dog ‘presents’ on kitchen floor.
6:00 pm: Mopped kitchen floor. Twice.
7:00 pm: Dinner.
8:00 pm: Cleaned up after dinner.
9:00 pm: Finally settle down to do some work.

Who’s the goddess now?

Like all women who work and are mothers and wives and daughters, writers are busy. Though we get to write stories we love, we certainly don’t feel very ‘glamorous’ in our day-to-day lives. That’s why I love the internet. I can be a (plot) monkey in our happy jungle one day (www.plotmonkeys.com); and a goddess on another. Most of all, I get to meet and greet readers and people who enjoy the same things I do – a good book and a computer to hide behind!

Do your days, like mine, get so filled with family and life business that it’s hard to get your work done? What keeps you from completing the things you most want to do? Has the internet been a good escape for you from the real worries of day-to-day life/work/parenting/etc. or is it just another distraction?

Ahh.. the internet is a distraction at times. I work at my computer by telecommuting back to the States. It is very tempting to read email or surf when one is working. :)

The internet is sometimes my lifesaver and sometimes my downfall. My greatest guilty pleasure lately is TGB. I have days, like today, that I feel a lap behind all day.
I am making the dresses for one of our daycare mom’s wedding, five in all plus alterations on her gown and on her baby’s tux. So I had to make a run to Joanne’s for lining for the flowergirls dress.
I come in and the grandson’s have taken over our room for tv watching, I am temorarily doing my sewing in our room because we are in the middle of moving our office/craft/sewing room to our garage so each grandson can have his own bedroom.
Boys have second day of a basketball tournement to play. Must be fed and hydrated first.
We come home, kitchen has to be cleaned. They threw a “slushy” party for all thier friends in the neighborhood.
We have guests coming for dinner. No I will not make you mac & cheese instead.

  3. evlqn on 11 Feb 2008 at 1:31 am #

Dinner over, kitchen clean, baths done, clothes for school out, time for Extreme Makeover Home Edition and four rounds of Bingo.
Now they are asleep on our bedroom floor, because they still won’t sleep alone after two and a half years with us.
That was my day, and I thank the Goddesses for being here for me.

Thanks for having me, Goddesses! I’ll be on and off here all day :)

    Hey Carly! Welcome!!! :D

I think the net’s a double-edged sword. I looove it, but it also vacuums a lot of time out of my day. Still, I can’t imagine not having my friends or visiting the blog.

And no, there aren’t enough hours in the day and my kids are away at school. Carly, you sound like a Goddess to me — you’re doing a great job balancing all of those responsibilities!

  6. DebMarlowe on 11 Feb 2008 at 8:38 am #

Welcome Carly! I feel you on the busy front. So much to do and so little time–and what I really need to do is shut myself away and get the danged book done!

I hearby make a Goddess pact to stop and smell the (Valentine’s) roses this week. I have a lot of blessings and I want to enjoy them!

I’m going to start by going back and enjoying Sabrina’s FROS once more. Ahhh. Then I’m shutting myself away until the kids get home.

  7. SuzyQ on 11 Feb 2008 at 8:44 am #

    Welcome back Carly!

I have two jobs - one I get paid for in money, and the other in hugs and kisses. After I finish my day job, I pick up the kids, get home, help with the homework, start dinner, set table, eat, clean up, get kids cleaned up and dressed for bed, play some with kids, bedtime for kids, finally get to sit down with dh and relax. By this time I usually fall asleep. My dh does help out, but the time just seems to fly by.

I do love the internet, but like the others have said, it can be a distraction and a real time consumer. But I always have to check this blog everyday (at least on the weekdays).

    Welcome Carly!

A single mom with a full time job, a six year old girl, a dog, a goat and a business from home, my days are anything but glamorous. The internet is a must in my life (Mt. Oly calls to me) but also a large part of my business is done online. There are times that I might spend so much time commenting on and reviewing blogs, or writing my own, that I forget to do something and with my schedule out of whack I become cranky, but then again, I can be cranky without it so it doesn’t really matter much. I’ve found a pretty good balance, though there are times when its easier to hang here on the Mt. than to deal with the car breaking down, or folding the laundry.

  9. Gannon on 11 Feb 2008 at 9:16 am #

Welcome, Carly! Your day sounds remarkably like mine (or any other busy mom)! I love the internet, but I sometimes spend more time than I should on it! Still, my day would not be the same without a visit to Mt. Oly!

  10. Kay on 11 Feb 2008 at 9:27 am #

    Welcome to the mountain, Carly.

I had grand plans of starting a new chapter on my WIP this morning. Oldest son remembered, at 6 am, that he had a test TODAY, and needed help going over his notes.

Youngest child, who moves like cold molasses on a good day, barely made it outside in time for the bus, which DID NOT STOP. It is -6 out (-18 wind chill) so I drove him and fussed at the manager of the bus drivers the entire way to school.

While driving home from the school, I missed the call for the garage door repairman. They called 2 minutes before I got home, so I have to reschedule.

I surfed over to the MT to calm down while the second pot of coffee brews. :-) Now, off to do my daily sudoko to clear my mind, then the new chapter awaits.

Thank Zeus for the internet, and the goddesses.

‘Morning, all! it’s 8:30 , and I’m getting ready to take my 10 year old to school. I’m in my morning chauffeur ensemble of flannel pjam pants and a Chiefs hoodie, I’ve done one load of clothes and have taken my other two children to their two other schools. Three kids, three schools, three schedules, one need for a cosmo. I sympathize, Carly, it seems like I spend the better part of one day a week waiting for someone to show up and fix something, this week it’s the dishwasher, but ya know, “GE cares!” so they can’t come out till Thursday, sometime between 8 and 5. (”Um, can you narrow that down a bit more?” “No.”) I have a student led conference with my son this afternoon, enrollment for next year with my high schooler tomorrow, and a parent teacher conference on Wednesday, then the little…um…darlings are home Thursday through next Tuesday for Teacher inservice. And we have snow coming. And my minivan is making odd noises. The ‘net is at times, my window to the world.

  12. Meg on 11 Feb 2008 at 10:08 am #

I look at the internet as a daily retreat. :-) Especially checking in with the Goddesses. I don’t have any children but my days sometimes get so busy that I even forget to eat! Then there are those days that I am so wrapped up in a book that I forget everything else. I like those days.

  13. Cher Gorman on 11 Feb 2008 at 10:13 am #

    Hi Carly :-)

Just wanted to pop over to say hi and have a great day on your safari out of the jungle and into the goddess realm. :-)

It’s 8:10 here in Colorado, I’m in my jammies, drinking my morning tea. My daughter, who is 17 is off at school. I have a really bad cold so I have an excuse for being a little lazy today. No appointments today but my daughter does have a skating lesson at 4:15. Cleaned the house, did laundry over the weekend. I do have another proposal I need to get done plus two more books I want to write this year. But today, thankfully not a lot of running around, errands etc.

    Have a wonderful day all,

    Cher

  14. Cher Gorman on 11 Feb 2008 at 10:15 am #

Oh, I forgot to say hi to Karen Rose. I don’t know if you remember me but we were on the shuttle together in Dallas last year going back to the airport after conference. Hope you’re doing well. :-)

    Welcome back Carly,

I believe I was out of town during your last trip to the Mount so I missed you the first time.

Boy, I do not miss dragging children out of bed and running them to school. My children are all out of the house–well, sort of. It’s my middle daughter’s day off from school, and she come over this morning to tell me her latest drama trauma. This apparently drained her because she is currently asleep on my couch. When she wakes up, she’ll expect me to take her to lunch.

I have noticed that people assume I don’t work very hard because I work from home.

well, my day today is a bit different, i’m currently delayed at the airport…

i work many hrs at work. it is expected for us to stay late to deal with things that come in all day long. unfortuantely that leaves down time, which gets eaten by the internet and Mt Oly. I admit, i’d rather be at home with my guy making dinner or relaxing than browsing the web at work, but sadly in this world we’re expected to be at the beck and call of the office… which is evident in the fact that i’m on my work computer on my way home from FL.

  17. Karen Hawkins on 11 Feb 2008 at 11:05 am #

Sheesh! You guys are busy! I am so impressed with all that you guys do — and with such grace!

Carly, looks like you came to the right Mt! These gals are uber-achievers, too!

  18. Paula on 11 Feb 2008 at 11:22 am #

Hi, I am an internet freak and it does consume the hours, sometimes it is quite frightening how long I’ve been on the internet. I do try and make time for it in the evenings as during the day I have to get the boys up, dressed and breakfasted beofre 8am when 2 others come , then I take them to school and then go to work, finish work fetch my 2 children and at least 3 others, home sort out the house, tea, homework, bathtime & boys into bed then cook tea for myself and DH then flop in front of the computer until it is time for bed. By which point I often think where did the day go and what do I have to show for it?!!

  19. claudia dain on 11 Feb 2008 at 11:23 am #

I love the internet, especially this blog. Is it a distraction? Am I supposed to notice that when I’m having so much fun? I need my fun time, several times a day.

Carly, it’s so good to have you back! Your day sounds amazing; where do you find the energy? I’d fall into bed at 9:15 after a day like that.

Wow, do I sound lazy or what?

  20. Mia Rose on 11 Feb 2008 at 11:32 am #

    Good Morning Carly !

And all of you working mothers absolutely amaze me!
*sigh* It’s close to 8:30 over here on the West Coast and even though it’s only Monday I can already tell it’s going to be a long week. My husband and I run the Reno branch of the family Window Co. and we had a much needed delivery to unload yesterday morning (after getting 3 hours of sleep Sat. night thanks to friends/family being in town).
The internet is both a blessing and a curse, I’m convinced. It’s a blessing because it saves me time. I do 99% of all my shopping online, I order prescription refills online, I research, I learn new things, meet new people and keep in touch with people I probably wouldn’t ever pick up a phone to call.
It also manages to distract me 50% of the work day. I spend SO much time on blogs, reading the first 5 pages of books on Amazon, sending emails, surfing myspace, shopping on ebay… sometimes it’s easy to forget I should probably be working.
    :D

  21. SnikyWhite on 11 Feb 2008 at 11:37 am #

Claudia-If that’s lazy then I could describe this past Saturday to you lol. I gave laziness a new name this weekend. Sleeping in until 11:30am. I haven’t done that in FOREVER! The rest of the day was spent reading, or watching tv and trying my best to simply enjoy a day around the house. Since the most productive thing I did all day was dye my hair, I’d say…Mission accomplished.

  22. Freshechelle on 11 Feb 2008 at 12:19 pm #

I’m getting my tubes tied! How can it be “all about me” when you have kids? If kids aren’t made to serve me, why have ‘em?

To all who support & nuture your kids by being chauffer, nurse, mentor, guidance counselor, teacher, friend, coach, etc. I salute you.

Just reading your daily schedule made me want to lie down and take a nap. *g*

Carly, welcome to the Mount! We’re so delighted to have you.

I haven’t had a day yet that was not manic, so I identify completely with your blog. Already today I have posted at the RT Ask an Author thing (which I’m doing this week), met with my son’s caregiver agency person to go over med paperwork, written several e-mails, walked on the treadmill, and gone over some tax stuff with my assistant.

I still have a doctor’s appt. this afternoon and I have to swing by the bank. After THAT, I get to write. Sigh.

    Some goddesses WE are, eh?

Hello All You BUSY BUSY People You!!!!! LOL I myself start the day out with work, early, 6 a.m. @ UPS unloading the trucks. They are my work and what keeps me from my work. *G* I have to admit that the internet does get me distracted once in awhile. The internet can be both a wonderful way to relax when I have free time, and a great temptation to procrastinate even when my list of things to do is as long as my arm. All in all, I am grateful to be able to meet a wide variety of people who have similar interests like love of reading romance, and being able to find information on just about everything through the internet.

  27. Nicole Jordan on 11 Feb 2008 at 1:00 pm #

It’s so great to have you back, Carly!! You’re our Number 1 Guest Goddess!

Your list made me laugh. Except for the human kids (mine are equine), your schedule looks a lot like mine.

And I love the Internet, even if it is a distraction and a big time sink. I rely on the Goddesses and other place to rejeuvenate me and give me a much needed brain break when I’ve been writing intently.

Also, we would love it if you would tell us about your latest release and your next one! Here on Mt. Oly, we like to get the good scoop first.

    Welcome back Carly,

What a schedule you have! I worked while my girls were in school and had a nanny then so missed all the midday stuff. But guess what? I’m a nanny now and am making up for all those lost experiences.

I got to participate in some class activities with my girls, but now it’s football practice, etc. with the two boys, 9 and 11, I watch. They are not the most disciplined of children and showers, homework, bedtime and other activities are hard to enforce. Yuk.

I do get the rounds of dentists, stay at home with the sick one, etc. My internet time is spent visiting Mt Oly and writing reviews.

    Once again, welcome.

  29. Caryn on 11 Feb 2008 at 1:43 pm #

Wow! That does sound hectic. Sometimes I think that my days off are busier than my official work days because of interruptions just like these. And when I insist on spending those “off” days writing, people get so annoyed, or even angry, when I inform them that that means I need to actually, you know, write. It has to get done sometime, after all!

  30. Julia London on 11 Feb 2008 at 1:48 pm #

Carly, welcome to Mt. Oly! I would have been here sooner, but I was screwing around on the internet.

Actually, that was my new year’s resolution. So far, I am 0 for three on the new year resolutions.

  31. Lisa H on 11 Feb 2008 at 1:49 pm #

    Hi Carly,

I love your blog…your day sounds like one of my usual ones…after putting in a full day taking care of the house and kids and appts, THEN we get to try to be creative and make money from it! Thank you for blogging with us today!

Btw, Karen H, I spent the whole day on the couch yesterday and read “How to Abduct a Highland Lord” I read it in a single sitting, it was so good, I couldn’t put it down…love that Black Jack Kincaid! I’m off to Amazon to order “To Scotland with Love” THanks for making my day of rest very enjoyable!

  32. Jane on 11 Feb 2008 at 1:56 pm #

    Hi Carly,

At work the internet is the most distracting. At home it’s the internet, tv, books and telephone. I try to catch my favorite prime time shows, so I watch several hours of tv per night.

  33. Yasmin on 11 Feb 2008 at 1:56 pm #

    Welcome To Mt. Oly

When i have time to go on the net it is a relief to me.
I work in the afternoons while everyone else in my fam. work mornings so I take my little brother to school come back clean house , run errands, cook for dinner, get ready for work, go to work, take break to p/u litlle brother from school, dropp him off at home, and go back to work, and get home about 11:30 pm, go to sleep. Most of my days are the same with the exception of days of in which I do the laundry and grocery shopping on.

  34. Karen Rose on 11 Feb 2008 at 1:57 pm #

Welcome back, Carly!! Yep, I am one of those busy mom-goddesses, too. But I also have a great DH to help, so I really can’t complain.

I did, however, have a moment this morning when youngest and I had to laugh. My watch is still on Central Time, having just returned from the great white north of MN. (And none too soon - it turned cold up there!) Youngest had a doctor’s appt at 10am. At least I thought it was 10. It was really at 11am. So I rushed her out the door, only to arrive an hour early.

For a second I wanted to cry, thinking about all I could have done with that hour. THen I laughed - it was too funny not to. And youngest and I spent the hour chatting. It was nice. After 45 mins of cozy chat time, she asked if my phone got the internet. It does and she was happy for the remaining time, LOL.

So, yes, the internet is my friend. Without it, I’d be stuck on the earth and not able to scale Mt. Oly!

  35. Karen Rose on 11 Feb 2008 at 1:58 pm #

Hi, Cher Gorman! Of course I remember you from the shuttle from RWA. Waving back at you!

  36. Maureen on 11 Feb 2008 at 2:06 pm #

I think it can be distracting but it also can make many things easier when you have to look up information. Also, the internet can be entertaining because there is always something to see as opposed to television. Some days can be crazy around our house too. Always too much to do and not enough time.

  37. Freshechelle on 11 Feb 2008 at 2:16 pm #

Internet - an escape or distration? You betcha. I swore I was going to write annual reviews for my team. 4 hours left in the day. Wonder if I’ll get just one written today.

Come to think of it, this Mt. Oly is chock full of writers. Anyone want to write an employee review? Compensation will be provided in the form of Starbucks gift cards and I’ll buy & recommend to all my friends your next book.

  38. anneriailin on 11 Feb 2008 at 2:18 pm #

I’m that single mom with two kids and two job thing going on also! It’s gotten alot easier in the past few years though. One kid out of college, one kid still in college but away from home.

The busiest time I had was when the kids were in different schools, which meant different schedules for everything.

The house is what gets ‘forgotten’ at times. Or at least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!! It’s clean enough to be healthy but dirty enough to be happy.

  39. anneriailin on 11 Feb 2008 at 2:21 pm #

Oh…forgot the internet question. At times, mindless surfing of the internet and reading the blogs was what kept me sane! Between what the older kid needed/had to do and what the younger kid needed/had to do….sitting down at the computer at the end of the day was quite the relief.

    –dorothy

  40. SnikyWhite on 11 Feb 2008 at 2:27 pm #

Fresh - I think I have some old employee reviews I could get to you. Just tell me if you need a successful review or one for needs improvement then you can just substitute the name ;)

  41. Paula R. on 11 Feb 2008 at 2:27 pm #

Hey Carly, just wanted to drop in and say hello…I can’t stay long, but I wanted you to know that I was thinking of you today….have a great rest of the day and see you in the jungle…

Did I tell you how much I LOVED Seduce Me? Well, I loved it…if anyone here hasn’t read it yet, go out and get it…

Hello Goddesses, I don’t know you all, but I am now familiar with Rachel Gibson’s work, Tangled up in You…LOVED IT!!!…can’t wait to read the rest of your books…

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

  42. Mimmi on 11 Feb 2008 at 2:32 pm #

While I’m not a writer, the internet has proven some days to be a wonderful escape, where I can leave everyday worries ’til later…and other days, I find myself pushing myself to get on to check my mail, because I know I’ll have a million emails if I don’t, but how will I carve out the time to do it? And it DOES interfere with reading time, lol. But I love it!! I’ve met so many wonderful people, been introduced to some of my favorite keepers and books that I cherish, and would have probably never known about if not for the internet.
    Great blog, Carly!!

  43. Freshechelle on 11 Feb 2008 at 2:38 pm #

Sniky, you’re a pal. I’ll take one of each. Where do I send the Starbuck cards? My HR dept. won’t let me write “try not to suck” for my “more expected” people. They’re so up tight.

  44. SnikyWhite on 11 Feb 2008 at 2:57 pm #

LOL I think “try not to suck” is perfect feedback. One of my most memorable reviews literally said “She is sometimes hormonal” a peer review while i was pregnant. How well do you think that went over? I raised all kinds of stink that management would allow that to go on the review…it didn’t matter if it were true HAHA

What type of point system are you on for the reviews? Is it a 1-5, 1-10 or just comments? I really do have some at home that i can send, but it won’t be before 5 today…but am willing to send them if you want them. :)

  45. Ellen on 11 Feb 2008 at 3:15 pm #

Welcome Carly. I would chat more about how busy my day is except that this is one of those days when I don’t have time to chat. On the days when I can, I live on this blog with my favorite gees.

And…I never consider it a waste of my time.

More than the internet, I find a good book is capable of stealing days at a time from me. Thank gawd, Goddess Julia taught me about the plastic wrap in the shower trick. Talk about multi tasking!

  46. Kim on 11 Feb 2008 at 3:23 pm #

Hi Carly! Welcome to Mt Oly.

My typical day sounds a lot like yours. Then there are the days like last Thursday when every email I sent was WRONG! URGH. Then I spend an hour resending emails with the correct information. Then there are days like today. I would have been here sooner but I’ve been spending the day convincing my landlady that YES, you must call a plumber when the only toilet in the house won’t flush. sheez.

Don’t you just love doggy presents? *g*

  47. Cindy Knisely on 11 Feb 2008 at 4:15 pm #

Your books have put the spark back in my marriage. Thank you

  48. Karen Hawkins on 11 Feb 2008 at 4:17 pm #

Kim, I’m so glad you convinced your landlady to call a plumber! Sheesh!

I’m so glad I work at home and don’t have employee evaluations. I thought they were a pain to get, but they’re a worse pain to give.

My sister worked for the same company from the time she was in college to now — over 20 years. It was a very small company and was bought out by a new, larger company. She’d never had an employee evaluation until last year. They told her that she ‘needed to get along better with her co-workers,’ should ‘dress more professionally,’ and ‘try not to dominate all conversations with other employees.’ My brother and I were horrified — that’s a HORRIBLE evaluation! But my sister just shrugged and said, “I don’t really care what they say. If I’m right, then I’m right.”

Can you tell she’s a bit ah, what’s the word? Bossy. Yes, that would be it. Very bossy.

Snik, you’re so sweet! They’re written reviews, no numbers. Drat. I can’t believe someone would expose their company to the liability attached to writing “she’s hormonal”. There ought to be a law. Oh yeah, there is.

I’ve gotta put on my cheerleader hat and get to it. Yes, Carly, the internet is the GREAT ESCAPE.

Hi, all! This is yet another one of those days that got away from me! It sounds like your days are a lot like mine!!! Crazy. ;) And the internet sucks the hours away, doesn’t it?

I have a new pic of my biggest distraction up at http://www.plotmonkeys.com right now. That would be the puppy!

  51. Karen Hawkins on 11 Feb 2008 at 5:41 pm #

Ye gosh, how CUTE! Carly, that’s not a puppy. It’s A FLUFF MUFFIN FROM HEAVEN!!!! SQUEEEEEEE!

Too cute! But then they’re ALL cute when they’re little, aren’t they? Ah, tehe good ole days!

Hey, Carly! Your books are one of my guilty pleasures. Mainly because I read them at work on breaks and lunch and I laugh out loud and REFUSE to tell anyone what’s so funny. I tell them “Buy your own!” Bailey is an ABSOLUTE DOLL! Is she not the cutest thing??

I manage the bakery at Wal-Mart. Today was NOT a normal day as I had to be there at 4AM to make the donuts. The donut girl called in sick. I was NOT a happy camper. 4 AM is an UNGODLY HOUR as far as I am concerned.

The internet is my window on the world, my escape, my research buddy, my lifeline. When we lived in England our house abutted the house next door. A thin wall separated them. There was a wall between the two front gardens. My mother and the lady next door used to stand at that fence and chat about all of the goings on in the village. Other ladies came by on their way to and from the shops and joined in. That is how I see the internet, especially here at the Goddess Blogs. We share laughs, sorrows, stories, and a deep

abiding spiritual search for hot men in very little clothing! We went through a very rough day with Julia Saturday and I hope we were able to help. Julia, I talked to my Glory-girl last night and told her to keep an eye out for Maude and show her the ropes on the other side of the bridge.

My day USUALLY starts at 6 AM. I dress the two house dogs (if it is cold) and force them to leave the warm bed to go outside and TCB. Then I put on my coat and Wellies and scoop six dogs runs (housing 9 dogs)feed the outside dogs, scoop the litter boxes, feed the inside dogs and cats. Take a shower, hop on the internet, get dressed, drive to work, hope everyone shows up, check to see what cake orders we have, find the donut boxes, listen to complaints about what one worker did to another, warn them all to make their order list, go in and out of a huge walk in freezer to check what we need, help cook bread, help decorate cakes, help stock the floor, teach the new asst. manager how to be my boss,

escape during breaks and lunch with a romance novel - dare anyone to speak to me when I am reading, listen to a customer complain that the pink on her cake is NOT the pink she wanted, manage not to kill any customers or workers, drive home, feed the outside dogs, scoop the runs, scoop the litter boxes, feed the inside dogs jump in my jammies onto the internet and then try to get a few hours work on my WIP before I pass out in bed!!

Carly I just clicked on the link to plot monkeys and your pup is an absolute cuddlebug!! (BTW, our youngest doggie who just turned 2 is named Bailey as well.) She looks adorable with the pink bows, very nice fashion statement… complements her fur.
    :)

  56. Kim on 11 Feb 2008 at 8:15 pm #

Carly–what an adorable baby!!! Sometimes it can take a while to housebreak. It took us about 5 years to get our Papillion 90% trained. She’s pretty good now but she still has the occasional accident.

KarenH–you think employee evaluations are bad? (I loath them too!) I just found out that my previous employer has implemented bathroom passes. You’re only allowed to use the bathroom 3 times a day. HELLO?!?! I pee 3 times before 9am! You know some man made that rule up. I’m betting its the same one who wanted to put a limit on how much tp the ladies room could have. (NO, I’m not joking.) Man, do I love working from home!

  57. Karen Hawkins on 11 Feb 2008 at 9:26 pm #

Sheesh! I know I was certainly shocked when I went to Italy and found out you had to PAY to use the RESTROOM. And if you didn’t have the cash — too bad!

    EEEK!

Kim, I’m glad you don’t work there any more!

  58. Sabrina Jeffries on 11 Feb 2008 at 9:32 pm #

Kim, that should be a crime. I hope somebody reports your former employer to … well… somebody.

  59. carly phillips on 11 Feb 2008 at 9:38 pm #

I just found out tomorrow I have to drive my daughter to school at 7 AM. THAT strikes me as unfair!

  60. carly phillips on 11 Feb 2008 at 9:39 pm #

Bailey wants to thank everyone for the compliments. It’s because she’s so cute that we can tolerate the slow housebreaking. Back to watching the Westminster Dog show for me … we have tickets for tomorrow but the weather is supposed to be bad …

    THANKS FOR HAVING ME, GODDESSES!

  61. carly phillips on 11 Feb 2008 at 9:40 pm #

Making donuts at 4 AM is worse than driving the kid to school.

  62. Kay on 11 Feb 2008 at 10:11 pm #

I just had a *awwwww* moment. My oldest son asked to take a picture of my hands to go with a poem he wrote for English class. I read the poem and the waterworks started.

:-) It was such a mom moment.

  63. doglady on 11 Feb 2008 at 10:24 pm #

Kay, that is just a moment beyond price! What a terrific kid you have raised and that is a monumental accomplishment!

Hi Carly - you are one busy lady! I’m not quite sure how I’d define the internet, but I know when I don’t have it, it feels like something is missing in my life. Unfortunately, its also probably responsible for 50% of my procrastinating - if not more!

  65. Santa on 11 Feb 2008 at 11:12 pm #

I can’t believe I missed Carly Phillips! My writing day starts after everyone else is in bed and I’ve got one load in the washing machine and another in the dryer. My ‘day job’ includes my position as deli diva four days a week while the cherubs are in school. Other than that, your day pretty much reflects mine - minus the ‘gifts’. Lucky you!

BTW, love your books and am just about caught up!
