A Cartoon Experiment

So, I’ve been playing around with my Mac, and I couldn’t help myself. This came out.

I kind of like the title, myself, but it could probably be snappier, so if you’d like to propose titles, we’ll do a contest, and I’ll give away an ARC to the person with the winning title.

Comic4

What do you think? New blog feature or no?

ABSOLUTELY! I love the characters, too — Austen v. Shakespeare!

As they say on the Guinness commercials, “BRILLIANT!”

  13. ladydawgfan on 01 Feb 2008 at 8:34 am #

I love this!! LOL!!! I would love to see more of this down the road!!

Ummmm, Sabrina? Might I suggest a title contest for your cartoon?

  14. Sabrina Jeffries on 01 Feb 2008 at 8:35 am #

Glad y’all like it! The idea has been percolating in my head ever since my wicked brother (yes, the cute one from conference, for those of you who met him) showed me how easy Mac’s Comic Life was to use. Years ago, I had Regency cartoons on my website (they’re still there, on the older book pages), and they took me HOURS to create using clunky image software (I couldn’t afford the superduper Photoshop or anything back then). It doesn’t help that I’m not an artist, so I didn’t really know what I was doing.

So when my evol brother showed me this, my FIRST thought was, “Boy, I wish I’d had THAT five years ago!” My second thought was, “hmmm. Photos, right?” Because I now have a digital camera.

Yes, it is QUITE important to keep the technological fun stuff AWAY from the writer. *G* But really, it only took me a couple of hours, and that was only because I had to figure out how to get it small enough, yet readable enough, to put on the site. Creating it was a snap.

  15. Sabrina Jeffries on 01 Feb 2008 at 8:39 am #

What, ladydawgfan, you don’t like “From the desk of Sabrina Jeffries”? *G*

I’ve been calling it “Jane and Will,” but that’s a little boring. So sure, why not a title contest? I have a few ARCs left, so y’all submit your titles, and I’ll pick the winner and send out an ARC. Sound good?

  16. PJ on 01 Feb 2008 at 8:50 am #

LOLOL! Oh Sabrina, I love it! Brava! Brava! More! More!

  17. Beth on 01 Feb 2008 at 9:02 am #

How about: To Love or Not to Love

(Ok, titles are not my thing)

I love the comic idea though.

    Beth

  18. Sonja Foust on 01 Feb 2008 at 9:05 am #

Haha, fantastic. Love it. Title? Um… Auspeare? Sounds like it could be an adjective I just made up. Heh.

  19. doglady on 01 Feb 2008 at 9:17 am #

To Be or Not To Be and Why The Heck Not

    Jane Can

See Jane and Will Run On

Ohhh . . . gotta think of some more. And you guys may not know this, but Deb’s a bit of a techno-guru. That’s VERY handy for the rest of us Luddites!

  23. Kelly Ann on 01 Feb 2008 at 10:11 am #

I love this! Too funny Karen H!

Doglady, I love Desperate Desk Jokies!

Ok, I have to try my hand at this too:

    A Lady and Her Bobblehead!
    A Middays Procrastination Dream?
    Bill & Jane’s Tabletop Troubles.

Not great, but that’s all I have, for now anyway!

I really want a Mac, my computer doesn’t have anything fun like this on it. I would play on it all day though and never get anything done!

  24. Kelly Ann on 01 Feb 2008 at 10:12 am #

    I don’t know why I said Bill, I meant Will…Sorry about that!

  25. Gannon on 01 Feb 2008 at 10:25 am #

ROFL, Sabrina! That’s great, and it should definitely be a regular feature!

  26. Claudia Dain on 01 Feb 2008 at 10:30 am #

I love this! Can my Mac do this too?? Is it special software? I want to play with my Mac instead of writing!!! This looks like a ton more fun.

Of course, I have no dolls to play with. Do you think it would work with a spatula and a slotted spoon?

  27. Lisa H on 01 Feb 2008 at 10:31 am #

    Yes, I love the feature

    Titles:

    Pleasuring Jane

  31. ct009ct on 01 Feb 2008 at 10:43 am #

  32. SuzyQ on 01 Feb 2008 at 10:47 am #

    Very good ct!

  33. Karen Rose on 01 Feb 2008 at 11:06 am #

Sabrina, I’d like to see the WWF version. I bet Jane could kick Bill’s bobble-butt.

  34. Sabrina Jeffries on 01 Feb 2008 at 11:18 am #

Claudia, it’s on ALL new macs, I think. It’s called “Comic Life.” Just look in Finder under Applications. It pulls your iPhoto library right up with it, so you can just upload photos and go. You could always just use you and hubby as your characters. *G*

Y’all’s titles are GREAT!! This is going to be a hard choice.

  35. Sabrina Jeffries on 01 Feb 2008 at 11:19 am #

By the way, Willie is NOT a bobble-head. I wish he were–then I could turn his head. He’s all one piece, poor thing. But he sure does have a big head!

  36. DebMarlowe on 01 Feb 2008 at 11:20 am #

LOL! You guys are killing me! I have to go away…I have pneumonia and when I laugh I start hacking up a lung!

  37. Sabrina Jeffries on 01 Feb 2008 at 11:20 am #

Haha, ct! Where were YOU when they were titling my books? :-o

  38. Claudia Dain on 01 Feb 2008 at 11:23 am #

I have it! I have Comic Life!!!! This is the beginning of the end, people. I will never write another word again unless it’s in Comic Life.

    Thanks, Sabrina!

Maybe I’ll do one with my cat and dog! They’re almost like dolls. Almost. Sort of. Not that I have outfits for them, but maybe Rachel could hook me up.

  39. zambonigirl on 01 Feb 2008 at 11:26 am #

OMG YESSSSSS! I had a wonderful laugh over this, thank you Lady Jeffries.

Back to continue reading Mansfield Park. (I’m at chapter four and twenty! Four and twenty! LOL! I totally didn’t plan it that way, but it just struck me as I turned the page. I love Mr. Rushworth. )

  40. Sabrina Jeffries on 01 Feb 2008 at 11:27 am #

Have fun, Claudia! It’s just an evol little application, isn’t it?

  41. Alice Audrey on 01 Feb 2008 at 11:34 am #

    Love it!

  43. Lisa H on 01 Feb 2008 at 12:39 pm #

Not exactly Taming the Shrew, but we do what we can do ;) Great job with the comic!! I look forward to the next installment.

  50. KariE on 01 Feb 2008 at 1:59 pm #

    I love it!!

For the title, I’m diggin’ “From the Desk of Sabrina Jeffries”.

    IMO anyway.

    Beware a Procrastinating Writer

    These titles are hilarious!!

  64. Suzanne Enoch on 01 Feb 2008 at 9:32 pm #

A thousand mea culpas, Suzanne!! Of course they’re action figures!! Writing is an action, right??

  67. Jane Squires on 01 Feb 2008 at 11:47 pm #

Two Great Writers at Writers Conference would be a good title.
    Different. Enjoyed.

  68. Pam P on 01 Feb 2008 at 11:50 pm #

Hi Sabrina. This was fun, and I like the idea of keeping it open to various characters, too. How about: From The Comic Lips of Sabrina Jeffries.

  69. Pam P on 01 Feb 2008 at 11:51 pm #

Or, Strips from the Comic Lips of Sabrina (Jeffries)

  70. BeatriceYoung on 02 Feb 2008 at 1:53 pm #

That strip is extremely comical! Kudos to you Sabrina! It is indeed very brilliant. Remarkable what a Mac is capable of. Now as for the title, how about these:

  71. Earlene Gillespie on 02 Feb 2008 at 3:11 pm #

Very, very cool Sabrina, I think it needs to be a regular
feature also. How about Sabrina’s Funnies. Nice and
    simple like that.

  72. Amy on 03 Feb 2008 at 11:14 am #

I know this is late, but I thought that thinking of titles was fun, so here was a few…
What happens in Sabrina’s head should stay in Sabrina’s head, as told by Will and Jane…LOL
And then there’s Sabrina, by Will and Jane
A Day In The Life Of A Writer…Today, ___________ then you could fill in the blank for whatever.
Just my rambleing mind. I have had the flu this week and what a nasty virus it is. Watch out ladies!!!!!!!! It shows NO MERCY?!?!?!?!? Good Luck Sabrina on the Sabrina Strip, LOL and I hope it turns into a weekly thing.
