Things I Learned from the Discovery Channel
Jan 30th 2008
Suzanne EnochWhen Goddesses Fall To Earth
I’m a big fan of the nonfiction cable TV channels – Animal Planet, The History Channel, National Geographic, The Science Channel, TruTV, and most especially, The Discovery Channel. I’m certain that some of the things I’ve learned there could one day save my life. And so in the interest of helping my fellow goddesses, I will share them with you:
1) From Stormchasers – Being in the center of an F-3 tornado is very windy. Many large objects become airborne, and some of these things could possibly kill you.
2) From Shark Week – Sharks live in the ocean, except for the Bull sharks that swim upstream in creeks on the East Coast where they could possibly kill you.
3) From The Deadliest Catch – Catching crabs in the Bering Sea between November and February is very cold and those men are insane. Oh, and the weather conditions could possibly kill you.
4) From Man vs. Wild – If caught in the desert with no food or water, you can squeeze water out of a cactus, and you can eat scorpions raw. Or they could possibly kill you.
5) From Mythbusters – If you’re in an elevator and the cables break and it falls 20 stories, jumping up in the air just before impact will not save your life. If you’re working on the Golden Gate Bridge and you fall off, dropping your hammer in first will not break the plane of water enough to save your life. Goldfish can be taught to swim through a tube – but a goldfish can’t save your life. (Unless it swims between you and a Bull shark.)
Do you enjoy watching any of the “learning” channels? What facts have you learned that you might not otherwise have known? Have any of them saved your life? What’s your favorite nonfiction show?

I am an docu-addict and have been so since the very first time I saw one of the many marvelous documentries from the bbc.. I take it all, myth-busters, travel-programs, “the intricate life of the ant” …what ever is on.
one I saw, not sure if it was Odisea or Discowery was this guy who would go down in the middle of a desert or jungle with only a knife and some matches and try to reach sivilisation, following rivers, eating leaves and in one memorable occation pee on his t-shirt to cool down his head.
so if I am ever lost in a desert, and have to walk during daytime..nah. one of the things I learned from that show is “do not get lost in the desert”
we have discovery, national geographics, Odisea, travel-channel, coocking-channel and a spanish-docu channel. I love them all.

I like some of the non-fiction shows, but some of the others we classify as “snore-per-view” because my father turns them on and promptly falls asleep in front of the television. Favorites include Ghost Hunters, Ghost Hunters International, Iron Chef and all variations, some home decoratiing shows, other cooking shows, antique shows, and things like Cops and Stupid Criminals caught on tape. I also like MythBusters, which is always interesting.
Amazing what you can learn on television!!

Fun topic, Suzie! We watch a lot of non-fiction TV - Dirty Jobs is a family fave, although sometimes it’s just too gross for me to watch. But Mike Rowe is really cute, so sometimes the gross factor is balanced out by his cuteness.
Right now we’re into Ace of Cakes - this show about these ecclectic cake makers in Baltimore, MD. We love the re-runs, even. We’ll say, “Oh, this is the one where they made the King Kong cake for that kid’s BarMitzvah,” or “This is the one with the Disaster of Disaster Titanic Cake!” It’s a great show on the Food Network. Their model of Hogwarts castle for the most recent Harry Potter movie premier was freaking amazing. Go Duff!
And of course, the Antiques Roadshow reigns supreme!
I don’t think any of them have saved my life, though. Sorry. But if I found myself laying siege to a medieval castle, I could probably build a trebuchet. Does that count?
KariE on 30 Jan 2008 at 9:10 am #
I really like the “learning” channels. Thanks to MythBusters I have come to accept the fact that a dady long leg CAN bite me, BUT it doesn’t have enough venom to kill me. That information has saved THEIR life.
Thanks to How It’s Made, I now know how things are made.
Last but not least, thanks to Mike Rowe and Dirty Jobs, I know my job could be worse. I could be a professional pooper-scooper and it could still be worse.
The three listed above are my favorites.

I love those types of shows. Good Eats with Alton Brown, Antiques Roadshow, Man vs Wild… all excellent. I don’t watch that much TV, but when I do, it’s usually one of those types.
I heard that a little girl saved her family in the Tsunami a few years back cause she had seen something on TV about tsunami’s and warned her family. Go educational tv!

It is a good thing I don’t have cable out here in the boonies, otherwise I would never get anything done. I love to watch the History Channel, Animal Planet, National Geographic, etc. Unfortunately the only time I get to watch is if I visit my Mom or my BFF.
At Christmas I watched a documentary about the hunt for John Wilkes Boothe. It was fascinating and I learned some things I had either forgotten or did not know. He truly was a deluded individual, but the attack was more carefully planned and far reaching than I realized.
There was one on the ruins of Pompeii I never forgot. It showed one home where a large dog way lying protectively over a child, frozen together in this heroic act. They talked about how most animals had fled or were in the process when Vesuvius erupted. This dog stayed to protect this little girl. They said his collar had engraved on it that he had saved the master of the house twice before - once from drowning and once from a robber. It was such a moving story.

OHMIGOSH! SHARKS SWIM UP RIVERS ON THE COAST???? (looks nervously outside to the river flowing past her backyard) EEEEEK!
Suzanne, I am ADDICTED to the National Geographic, Discovery, Style, HGTV, History and BBC America Channels. I love THE DEADLIEST CATCH, DIRTY JOBS, MAN V WILD, CLEAN HOUSE, DESIGN ON A DIME, DESIGNED TO SELL, TOP GEAR, and any documentary every made.
I watched one just last week about the Medicis that was just AWESOME.
Btw, on MAN V WILD, did you see in the desert one where he also peed on a shirt and wrapped it around his head to keep his temperature down? Not pretty.
Karen Hawkins on 30 Jan 2008 at 9:21 am #
Doglady, I watched the same documentary on the search for Boothe! Glad I didn’t see that about the dog in Pompeii . . . I would have wept buckets.

I LOVE discovery channel and the history channel. While I don’t know if any of the information obtained has saved my life as of yet, I do know that my library of obscure facts grows daily.
Dirty Jobs: Because of the Fabulous Mr. Mike Rowe. Watch out ladies, he’s my future husband, he just doesn’t know it yet. I did learn from this show however that there are a lot of jobs I don’t want to do AND that there are potentially 60 different ways Pigeon Poop can harm you. Terrifying.
Deadliest Catch: Again, my love for this show has more to do with the narrator, also Mike Rowe. I always find myself routing for these fellas. MY favorite crew is the Northeastern. Something about those Norweigens.
History’s Mysteries: I have a love of mysteries anyway, throw in a good dose of American and/or World History and you have my attention.
I also spend a lot of time watching Food Network. Alton Brown, Giada De Laurentis, Jamie Oliver and Tyler Florence are my favs.
Julie on 30 Jan 2008 at 9:27 am #
I watch way more non-fiction tv than fiction. I love Mythbusters! I also enjoy the Travel channel, Dirty Jobs, How Is It Made and Stormchasers. I watch more Food Network than anything else, though. I rarely watch anything else on the weekends. Even if I’m not actually watching it’s on in the background.
claudia dain on 30 Jan 2008 at 9:47 am #
I watch them all, all with the exception of anything to do with food or cooking. Yawn!
Does anyone else watch Conquest? I just watched an episode about the axe. Yes, the lowly axe is not so lowly after all. The Saxons and the Vikings devoured continents because of their skill with the axe.
I want an axe now.
In that vein, the military channel is a favorite, too. Watching those recruits being turned into a fighting unit, learning the latest tech in remote controlled vehicles.
Because of my studious and avid watching of educational television, I could probably defend myself for at least 3 seconds with an axe and I could crawl through a muddy ditch on my belly. With any luck at all I will never find out if these skills saved my life.
RachelG on 30 Jan 2008 at 10:07 am #
I loved Planet Earth on Discovery. The others, not so much. But I love love love Dr. G: Medical Examiner on TLC. I watch a lot of Cold Case Files and the First 48. I’m kind of a ghoul and have a fascination with forensics. I’ll watch any thing to do with the body farm.

Adding my ditto about Mike Rowe and Dirty Jobs.
Karen, I absolutely love Ace of Cakes! Mary Alice is my favorite. They are brillant and funny.
When my daughter was in elementary school, I enjoyed watching Bill Nye, The Science Guy, with her.
KariE on 30 Jan 2008 at 10:34 am #
Ohhhh RachelG, I agree with Dr. G: M.E. She is too cool. Ever since I visited the Michigan State University Museum and saw the dermestid “lab” I was hooked on forensic science. I was fascinated how they could tell how long something was dead by the bugs on it and the life stages of the bugs.
The detective shows I really enjoy too. Forensic Files and also Body of Evidence with Dayle Hinman I like to watch.
Karen Rose on 30 Jan 2008 at 11:18 am #
Sorry, girls, I think Mike Rowe is married. He had his kid on one of the episodes as I recall.
I saw that documentary about Booth. Fascinating - I had no idea the conspiracy had so many layers to it, including the possible involvement of (I think) the Secretary of Defense or State or some important Cabinet member.
Claudia, I LOVED Conquest. Is it back on? When you say you just saw it, did you mean like, on TV, recently? Or have you scored the DVD? That Peter Woodward is one hot bald guy. I love his accent. I want an axe, too.
Karen Rose on 30 Jan 2008 at 11:22 am #
Oh, wait, Rowe’s not married, but “continues to pursue a life of serial monogamy with a very understanding woman in San Francisco.”
So there you are
But he’s still cute except when he’s all covered in really disgusting things.
Karen Hawkins on 30 Jan 2008 at 12:08 pm #
I know a guy who looks EXACTLY like Mike Rowe. This guy is an ex-Navy pilot and is now an FBI agent. They even sound the same.
Did you know Mike Rowe used to sing opera? No kiddin’.
He’s a hottie MacHot. Hmmmm. Maybe we should do a FROS on him. Nice way to begin a week!
Sabrina Jeffries on 30 Jan 2008 at 12:23 pm #
Well, gee, I just learned from KariE that daddy long legs bite. I always thought they were harmless. Gee, thanks, Kari!
Okay, I love the documentary shows, but my tastes run more to the … er… gory. I like FBI Files, 48 Hours Hard evidence, Forensic Files, Most Evil … every crime procedural show you can think of. From them, I have learned how to kill someone and get away with it. So watch out!
Suzanne Enoch on 30 Jan 2008 at 12:28 pm #
I’m a huge fan of “Deadliest Catch”, too. In fact, my nephews gave me 2 tiny freshwater blue lobsters for my aquarium, and I named them Sig and Phil after 2 of the captains (yes, I know they catch crabs on the show, but I got lobsters).
I have to say, by watching BBCA’s “How Clean Is Your House?” I’ve learned that some people in England have very dirty houses, and how to feel better about my own current slightly rumpled state. *g*
SuzyQ on 30 Jan 2008 at 12:31 pm #
Great topic! I love to watch all the shows everyone has listed. And just a little trivia - the deadliest shark attack occurred right here in NJ - in a river - by a bull shark.
Things I have learned? If I go back in time, I don’t have to be worried about being hunted by a T-Rex. He was a scavenger (or so a recent theory claims)
When entering a tomb in Egypt it’s not a curse that will kill you, but all the bacteria in the air. So wear a respirator.
And KarenR? I thought you would be a fan of Cold Case. Very interesting show - along with The Forensic Files
RachelG on 30 Jan 2008 at 12:44 pm #
Sabrina,
I LOVE Most Evil. Serial killer Eddie Gien was so over the top he’s inspired many a horror novel.

No problem Sabrina!! They say you learn something new every day.

What’s serial monagamy? Sounds crunchy!
I don’t watch TV unless it’s Monk or Desperate Houswives…my son however is a big Myth Busters fan, and I have watched it a couple times with him. I must say I like the show and have learned the importance of having one of those little hammer thingys in the car in case it should plunge into a river or lake while we are in it. Our power windows wouldn’t work.
My son is also a fan of Dirty Jobs, however to me that connotates a whole different kind of thing.
Doglady - Love the story about the dog in Pompei
colinfirthfan on 30 Jan 2008 at 1:01 pm #
I like watching the animal shows. My 7 yr old is addicted to Modern Marvels on the History channel so I have watched many many shows - all involving machines. The favorites - Engineering Disasters, Runways, Monster Machines, Containers, Mining, Bridges etc… etc..
It hasn’t saved my life as yet.
I also like watching anything connected to ghosts and the Egyptian pyramids
Karen Hawkins on 30 Jan 2008 at 1:20 pm #
Suzanne, I loooove the BBCA’s How Clean Is Your House? Ever notice how that one cleans as she wears sparkly gloves with feathers around the wrists? I hope she sterilizes them between shows. And they go back later and the house is always sliiiiiding back into a mess.
KariE, isn’t Myth Busters AWESOME? Glad to hear that about the granddaddy long legs. I’ve always wondered . . . to me, a spider is a spider and none of them are good.
zambonigirl on 30 Jan 2008 at 1:35 pm #
I love the Discovery Channel! Not watching it could possibly kill you. And Mythbusters. Woo! Remember that episode of Good Eats where Alton “busted” food myths? It was like porn for me. A combination of the MB’s and AB. *swoon*
My name is Zambonigirl, and I am a big, huge, unabashed geek. (And I’m really kind of hot, too.)
Suzanne Enoch on 30 Jan 2008 at 1:37 pm #
I agree, KarenH. So a daddy longlegs couldn’t kill you — it could still BITE you. Yipes!
I enjoy Dirty Jobs, too, though there have been a few episodes I’ve had to turn off. Generally anything involving poo is iffy. *g* My nephew is just the opposite. The bigger the ick factor, the better.
Nicole Jordan on 30 Jan 2008 at 1:51 pm #
All those trivia facts are so funny, Suzanne! Thanks for making my day.
As for my own preferences, I wish I had time to watch more shows, but usually the only ones I get see are sometimes when I’m excercising.
But I really love Animal Planet. Especially the “Growing up baby” series. I love seeing all those cute baby animals. Although I can’t bring myself to watch the shows that feature hurt or abused animals.
KariE on 30 Jan 2008 at 2:03 pm #
It is AWESOME KarenH!! My absolute favorite one is the Fraklin’s Kite one. I almost PMP laughing when either Tory or Grant got socked in the gonads by the kite as it was spinning out of control. Was very funny. The reaction was priceless.
Keep in mind, Suzanne, there is always a possibility of a reaction from non-deadly spiders. Shortly after I had moved to Florida I was blessed with a welcome home bite. A trip to the ER and a shot of Benadryl later I was good to go.
I think it’s like bee stings. They hurt like a mother but most often aren’t fatal. I think it depends on the person and if they are allergic to them. My non-educated scientific opinion anyway.
claudia dain on 30 Jan 2008 at 2:04 pm #
Now, what’s wrong with me? I never find Dirty Jobs too gross. I just slide right in, all smiles, waiting to hear what adorable thing Mike Rowe will say to make me laugh.
Conquest was on recently, but it was a rerun. I don’t care. I love them all. That guy, woo-hoo, he’s adorable, isn’t he?
How Clean Is Your House is one of my favorites, which will come as NO surprise to any goddess. I always end up thinking that the person or family in question needs serious psychological help. No one in their right state of mind could live like that! The filth is moving and alive, for goodness sake!!
The best part about How Clean is that I made each of my kids watch a few episodes before they moved out. After one episode, my younger son got the idea to clean the tile ledge at the top of the shower. Whoop!! Victory!
claudia dain on 30 Jan 2008 at 2:07 pm #
Oh, and Karen H, the dressy gloves woman on How Clean is Kim. She always has a new pair of gloves for each show. I tell you, dressing up in a glittery boa encrusted outfit to clean is spectacular motivation! I love it when Kim says, “You’re a filthy beggar. Bone lazy.” She’s a hoot. I think my DH has a not so secret crush on her.
Suzanne Enoch on 30 Jan 2008 at 2:20 pm #
Did you see the “How Clean” rat special where Kim and Aggie had to go through the blowing decontamination thing? Aggie’s hair was blowing like crazy, and Kim’s wasn’t moving. She pats it and says “me coiffure’s still perfect”. I laughed and laughed.
cail on 30 Jan 2008 at 2:58 pm #
i totally forgot about myth busters. definitely a favorite.
i thought the reason that daddy long legs wouldn’t kill us was because although their venom is poisonous, they can’t actually bite us… but i’m wrong
the article on wikipedia even refers to mythbusters! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daddy_long-legs_spider
although it says that it can penetrate skin, unless you are highly allergic it won’t do much except be irratating. It’s also barely poisonous to insects, too.
Sorry about the lesson on spiders…
Mia Rose on 30 Jan 2008 at 3:13 pm #
I do occasionally watch Dirty Jobs, and I love Deadlies Catch and Planet Earth although Man vs. Wild makes me cringe.
I admit, if I ever get stranded somewhere… I’d die. There’s no way I’d eat or do 1/2 of what he does… but he does have a sexy accent, so I’ll listen to the show while hubby watches.
Another ‘educational’ show to watch… MANSWERS on Spike. Hilarious, but also very informative. In fact, I learned that Vending Machines kill more often than Grizzly’s (i was shocked)… how to get drunk faster (always important)… who has the biggest boobs in the world (they were scary massive)… how to remove a bullet… if you can really beat a breathalyzer (answer is no) … How to stay alive after a bomb… How long you can actually stay alive on beer alone (longer than I thought)… ya know, the really important stuff in life.

Karen Hawkins on 30 Jan 2008 at 3:24 pm #
KariE, I saw that one! Did you see the one where they did the mentos and diet coke? They were SOOOO excited! I love those guys!
So the boa-wearing cleaning woman from the BBCA cleaning show’s name is Kim! That’s my daughter’s name. I’m going to have her watch the show. Claudia, you’re BRILLIANT to make your kids watch that. They never listen to us, but a bold woman with sparkly cleaning gloves and a bright, hard British accent is another matter all together.
Karen Hawkins on 30 Jan 2008 at 3:27 pm #
Mia, I’m going to tape MANSWERS. Have you seen the show where they blow things up? I can’t remember the name but last week they tried to hurricane proof a trailer and used a jet to make the wind. SO cool when the railer finally blew away. Note though, it did NOT blow apart after they’d ‘treated’ it!
Ann in IL on 30 Jan 2008 at 3:34 pm #
Antiques Roadshow is my all time favorite. I am the keeper of four generations of “stuff” and you wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve watched that show and seen something that I have here in the house. One of my friends says I’m “sitting on a freakin goldmine”. However, I know that you have to find someone willing to pay that high appraisal amount or it really isn’t worth two cents.
Food Network is my next fave. I love Alton, Paula and Tyler. The chick on Semi-Homemade makes me crazy. Can’t stand to hear her voice. She’s soooo sappy sweet. And Rachel is starting to get on my nerves. SHE’S EVERYWHERE……..she has too many shows.
Ellen on 30 Jan 2008 at 4:22 pm #
I have such a mean streak in me. When I watch the Antique Road show, I laugh so hard at the folks who are told that the vase they have protected for twelve generations is really a cheap piece of homemade pottery.
I also loved the old dude who brought in an old Navajo blanket and found out it was worth 250,000 dollars. His response, “Well I’ll be. Ya know, I got about 20 more of these at home.”
I am truly a “Bravo” ho. Top Chef is my favorite, but I watch Orange County Housewives and Project Runway. I also enjoy the Independent Film Network.
Ellen on 30 Jan 2008 at 4:23 pm #
Anything about wolves, chimps and elephants is worth my time, but my DH will not miss a Shark episode.
hvitveis on 30 Jan 2008 at 4:24 pm #
I just saw the mentos and coke episode! so funny. they enjoy themselves so much, it is exactly like little kids with a “little chemist equipment”.
fave programs include “monkey-business” (names might not be right since they are translated into spanish.) Brian Sewell`s grand tour, really intresting and so funny, since Mr Sewell is such a snotty-snob and tell all this hilarious stories of the young milords roaming Italy in the 18th century.
also I am facinated by the aviation-accidents.. cannot remember name. It is a bit morbid since my father is a pilot..but I cannot help wanting to know what was the cause. and also the incredible fact that these mashines hit the ground at such speed, and still people survive!
I do not however, enjoy the shark-ones. they are for the most part type “killing-machines” and they give me the shivers. I feel bad for the sharks that does not reall do that much damage compared to other things like cars, slippery bathtubes and human beings
hvitveis on 30 Jan 2008 at 4:28 pm #
cont. but they give me the shivers all the same, and I have real trouble dipping more than a toe into the mediterranian. even in the oslofjord I bath with reluctance after I read the news article that it is visited regularly by sharks and “orcas” umh,, the white and black big whatstheirname…I have seen how they come at full speed up to the beaches and nibs a seal, and I cannot help but imagine some young inexperienced animal deciding he wants to play with those pale thingys in the water…
KariE on 30 Jan 2008 at 5:11 pm #
Yes KarenH I did see that one. I could go on and on about those guys and that girl……her name escapes me.
The funny thing is that not only is it entertaining, but it’s also educational. Where else would you find out if it is leathal to pee on an electrified third rail of a train track?
Suzanne Enoch on 30 Jan 2008 at 5:12 pm #
See, hvitveis, The Discovery Channel HAS saved your life. You haven’t been eaten by a killer whale. *g*
KarenH, the trailer/tornado show is “Smash Lab”. That one’s turning out to be pretty fun and interesting, too. A lot like Mythbusters, except they only try to figure out how to make something work.
Suzanne Enoch on 30 Jan 2008 at 5:39 pm #
I like Antiques Road Show, but I prefer Cash in the Attic on BBCA. There’s nothing like some old granny pulling out a bowl and saying “oh, this is from my gran’s family” and Paul Hays says “my, that bowl is a blah blah blah, and dates from 1620″. My bowls date from early 21st century Walmart.
LauraR on 30 Jan 2008 at 5:39 pm #
My favorite Mythbusters episode is where they try to clean out the cement truck ‘leftovers’ with progressively larger detonations. When they finally blow the whole truck it took my breath away! Some of the ATF dudes who assist with explosives are studly. woo hoo…
claudia dain on 30 Jan 2008 at 7:35 pm #
I love Cash in the Attic, too, Suzanne, though I wince when people are so eager to sell a bowl from 1620 “they were scheduled to leave on the Mayflower but the baby got sick so the bowl stayed in England” and other amazingly beautiful stuff so they can take a family vacation to Portugal for a week. Are the pictures of Portugal standing next to the derelict fishing boat supposed to take the place of a solid dining table from 1755?
I’ve gotten so I can’t watch that show. I end up sobbing at the tv, “Don’t sell it!”
Kelly Ann on 30 Jan 2008 at 9:28 pm #
I love all of those shows, especially the ones on BBC. My favorite host is Mike Rowe, I did know he used to sing. Did you see the episode where he started out a baseball game with the National Anthem? It was awesome! He would definitely make an excellent FROS!
I love Man vs. Wild though, Bear is so hot! I do gag at some of the things he eats & I was a little put off when he drank his own pee, but still I would be trapped almost anywhere with him.
My favorite shows are Anthony Bourdain and Samantha Browns Passport to Europe (or Central America)! I never miss any shows the 2 of them do. I used to like that Zimmerman guy - Bizzare Foods. I couldn’t take it anymore though, the man isn’t right, putrid meat should NOT be eaten!
As for learning things….I’m a fount of useless knowledge! Ha-ha!
Suzanne Enoch on 30 Jan 2008 at 9:58 pm #
LauraR, I saw the cement truck episode of Mythbusters. Men sure do love big explosions. *g* And that truck was just obliterated.
No, Kelly Ann, I haven’t seen the National Anthem episode of Dirtiest Jobs. Darn it! I thought I’d seen them all.
lisa on 30 Jan 2008 at 9:59 pm #
How about 1000 Places To Go Before You Die. Can’t remember which network it’s one. Fantastic scenery. Can’t help but be jealous of the very young couple who host the show. Sweet gig!

One weekend, I was flipping the channel and I found they had a story, and it may be on Discovery or History channel, but it was about jobs during the Victorian and/or Regency times. I was awed. I LOVE historical romance books (can’t wait for Nicole Jordan’s out, I miss hers) and mostly you get the balls and the beautiful homes in the stories, but occassionally, you’ll get glimpse at the dark side during that time. I remember a couple authors I read that and I learned so much! This show I have to find again so I can watch from beginning to dend. Wished I could have the exact show for you but I’m not much of one who watches TV and happened to find it and I asked hubby to find it for me so hopefully he will and tape and i’ll come back with details. But in the meantime, check History and Discovery channels. I tend to now put those on when I’m reading (so I can feel things around me when i’m alone)

MYTHBUSTERS!!!! I’m a fanatic. I work with a group of guys who know my addiction well. We were in Los Alimidos (sp?) and on the way to the airport they pointed out the Huge Buildings that held the Zepplins during WWII to me. And then they told me it was where Mythbusters did some of their shows, like the paper folding and the ballon lift. I was like a little kid.
After that I like to watch BIG SPENDER, which is this guy that tells people whose spending habits are out of hand how to get a hold of them and get back on track. I’m good with my money, but I always thought I could be better, and watching this over and over makes me pay attention to things more and gives me some suggestions I never thought of.
Design on a Dime is what we are watching now. We want to do some decorating, but we want to budget well…so I got my brother to watch it with me, and now he’s looking forward to hitting yard sales this coming spring.
BeatriceYoung on 02 Feb 2008 at 4:53 pm #
I really enjoy Mythbusters. I love watching them mess with things and experiment. The myths there are quite entertaining. There was this one myth where, during the civil war, a man got shot, bullet through his “manhood”, out of his buttocks, and into the abdomen of a lady watching the war from her front porch. She supposedly got pregnant. Afterwords, he did the manly thing and married her. I will never forget that one.
