Quote THAT!

Karen HawkinsWhen Goddesses Fall To Earth
I love a good quote. My entire office is covered with them. Some are Life Instructions like “Live Loud.” I have that one on the door of my office so that I can remember to challenge myself while I’m writing.
On the inside of my moleskin notebook I have a quote from George Carlin that says, “Don’t sweat the petty things and don’t pet the sweaty things.” That’s to remind me not to get too wrapped up in unimportant things — like worrying about things I can’t control.
My favorite quotes right now (and they change daily) are:
“If you think you’re right, if you think you’re wrong, you’re probably right.” — Henry Ford
“I’m an excellent housekeeper. Every time I get a divorce, I keep the house!” — Zsa Zsa Gabor
“Beware of the young doctor and the old barber.” — Benjamen Franklin
“I intend to live forever. So far, so good.” — Steven Wright
“A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.” — Maya Angelou
“Why does Sea World have a seafood restaurant? I’m halfway through my fish burger and I realize, Oh man, I may be eating a slow learner!” — Lyndon B Johnson
“An invasion of armies can be resisted, but not an idea whose time has come.” — Victor Hugo
What quotes mean a lot to you? Do you like inspirational or funny or both? And do you print them up and hang them over your desk, too?

I love quotes but rarely print them out. The one from Eleanor Roosevelt about no one being able to make you feel inferior without you letting them. I try to remember that one daily.
George Carlin is a hoot, although everything he says that I remember is way too dirty to post. LOL

I adore Mark Twain. He has the greatest quotes. I remembered this one but had to look it up:
“There is nothing comparable to the endurance of a woman. In military life she would tire out an army of men, either in camp or on the march.” Mark Twain
That’s the kind of heroine I like to write.

Gannon, I loooove the one about measuring life. I’ve never heard that before, but wow!
doglady, I laughed at the tramp comment. ‘–scare the horses–” BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Margaret, I’ve been lost in thought many. many times so I can’t put that last quote up. It would be Too True!!! Thanks for the website. I’ll be very busy today, going through it.
LLG, I had an Oscar Wilde writing day yesterday and didn’t even realize it! That’s a great one. I think I may need to print that up and hang it over my computer. It’s time to change the quotes out!
Julia, I’ve always wanted to meet Mark Twain. He said so many things worth repeating.
Suzy Q, the ‘good friend’ quote made me laugh. Yup, that’s a Texas friend there.
Fresh, that Alice Roosevelt sounds so darn FUN, doesn’t she?

I love quotes! This is the one that started me collecting. Don’t worry not all are this long.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marianne Williams (Also quoted by Nelson Mandela during his inaugrual address in Cape Town S Africa)

Other quotes that I love:
Not all who wander are lost - JRR Tolkien

Do what you want and say what you feel, because those who matter don’t mind, and those who mind, don’t matter. - Dr. Suess
The way I see it, if you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain - Dolly Parton
Make every thought, every fact, that comes into your mind pay you a profit. Make it work and produce for you. Think of things not as they are but as they might be. Don’t merely dream - but create! - Robert Collier
It’s not enough to have a dream unless I’m willing to pursue it. It’s not enough to know what’s right unless I’m strong enough to do it. It’s not enough to join the crowd, to be acknowledged and accepted. I must be true to my ideals, even if I’m excluded and rejected. It’s not enough to learn the truth unless I also learn to live it. It’s not enough to reach for love unless I care enough to give it -Unknown

-from Joss: “I love to write. I love it. I mean there’s nothin in the world I like better, and that includes sex, probably because I’m so very bad at it.”
-from “Serenity”: “I aim to misbehave.”
“Let’s be bad guys.”
Not very profound, but fun. I hope. Ahem.

More quotes :
Stop telling God how big your storm is. Instead, tell the storm how big your God is!
The hardest thing to learn in life is which bridge to cross and which to burn.
Finish the damned book! - Anna Campbell’s advice to me on writing.
I care for no man’s religion who’s dog is not the better for it. Abraham Lincoln
The most massive characters are seared with scars. Out of suffering comes the strongest souls. Kahlil Gibran
A friend had this put on a headstone for my beloved Great Dane, Glory’s grave.
Know that no matter how deep my sleep
And all the power of death
Can keep my spirit from being with you.

More from me!!
“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body…but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, WOW! What a ride!”…

If wealth is gone, nothing is lost; if health is gone, something has lost. But if a good character is gone, everything is lost.

I have two quotes that I really like, one is from my dad and the other from Tommy Lee Jones in the Fugitive.
When I was a teenager and I wanted to know WHY I couldn’t do what my friends could, my dad told me, “The loneliest man in the world is the one who lays down thier principals to stand with thier friends.” I started picking a better class of friends.
And I absolutely loved when Richard Kimball told Sam Gerard he was innocent and Gerard said,”I don’t care.”

Suzanne Enoch, I KNEW you’d love the Jean-Luc quote!
doglady, I’m so glad you enjoyed TCAH! I had a great time watching Sophie try and torture Dougal, but had the upper hand all of the time . . . well, he did until it came to fighting his own desires for her.
And I’m glad to see a fellow Kahlil Gabran fan!
evign, that’s so cool that your father was able to say something so profound that it changed your outlook for the better! I love that. I hope I’m able to pull off that miracle for my own kids when they need it, too.

I’m in the middle of a 174 lb weight loss. 80 lbs down. I have quotes up all over the place. The one I keep in front of me is:
If hunger is not the problem, food is not the solution.
I also have some that I have for work:
“It is what it is” (Which to me is, regarless of the reason something happened, it’s my job to fix it.)
“Be excellent to one another.” Bill and Ted
“Be kind to yourself” Anon
“Failure IS an option.” (I test emerging technologies. We try and make it work…but sometimes failure is the answer.)
and “What did the fish say when it swam into the wall? Dam…”
Those hang up, but I have numerous quotation books in my office.

Pesky, you have and are accomplishing so much! I am inspired. I love your quotes, especially the first one. Thank you for sharing with us! I am losing weight too and I am going to print that up and put it on my mirror so I see it first thing every morning.

Here are 2 worth pondering:
In the case of good books, the point is not how many of them you can get
through, but rather how many can get through to you. -Mortimer J. Adler,
philosopher, educator and author (1902-2001)
and this is my favorite………
A word is not a crystal, transparent and unchanged, it is the skin of a
living thought and may vary greatly in color and content according to the
circumstances and the time in which it is used. -Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.,
jurist (1841-1935)

My favorite quote is by William Shakespeare. It’s one that many people have heard. I myself am in love, which makes this quote somewhat ironic. But it is very inpirational:
“Love is blind.”

Sorry, I’ve misspelled “inspirational”

Hi Everyone I am new to this blog and I love quotes!
Here’s one of my favorites from Saint Agustine:
“The measure of love is to love without measure.”
PJane1031 on 17 Feb 2008 at 2:22 am #
Is it too late to add a few of my favorites?! I’m also new. . . .I already feel like I’m getting to know folks on here from reading the blogs/etc.!!
O.K. So, a few I don’t know who said them, but I love:
Nothing makes it easier to resist temptation than a proper upbringing, a sound set of values, and witnesses.
You know, I don’t really want people to spoil my delusions with reality.
Problem? What problem? It’s just an issue that hasn’t been resolved yet!!
“Donkey, you have the right to remain silent. What you lack is the capacity.” –Shrek
Bud Bundy (a la ‘Married with Children’): “When you pour a gallon of knowledge into a shot glass-sized brain, you’re bound to spill some.” (this sits in front of me at my desk so that I can look at it and take a deep breath whenever I’m on the verge of strangling a co-worker that has managed to live up to the quote)
Finally: I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. –Voltaire
