Karen HawkinsMy Life As A Plebe
Sure, I love giving gifts. There’s nothing like seeing my kids’ happy faces when they see those cuddly little ipods under the tree.
But I like getting gifts, too. I like big gifts, small gifts, glittery gifts, wrapped gifts, surprise gifts, expensive gifts, hand-made gifts, and about any other gift you can imagine.
The only gift I’m not crazy about? Large, gilt-edged ceramic pigs. They’re nice, but . . . where would I put one?
Just for fun, I thought we could do a little Goddess Gift Quiz. Here goes!
A quiz for our goddesses:
1. Favorite gift you’ve given?
2. Favorite gift you’ve received?
3. Do you rip open the packages, paper and bows be damned, or do you carefully pick them apart, careful not to tear the paper or mash the bow?
4. Did you buy yourself a gift this year? What did you buy?
5. Do you like paper wrapping and bows or gift bags and bows?
6. What would be your fantasy gift — the one gift you’d love someone to give you, providing you don’t have to pay for it or live with someone who might be grumpy because they have to pay for it?
That’s it! Com’n and answer the Goddess Gift Quiz!

What terrific gifts you’ve given and received! I’m making a list of Great Ideas for next year and for birthdays.
Ok, let me answer now!
1) Fave gift I’ve given: Trip to Italy to my kids for Christmas. We went over Thanksgiving Break.
2) Fave gift I’ve received? Photo album from my daughter of said trip to Italy. Makes me tear up looking at my kids wandering by the Trevi Fountain.
3) Rip or carefully open: Rip, rip, RIP!
4) Did I buy myself a gift this year? YES! A t-shirt that says IN FAVRE WE TRUST! I even wrapped it up and pretended to be surprised when I opened it. GO PACKERS!
5) Paper or Bags? Either! Just put something cool in them!
6) Fantasy gift? I would love someone to plan a surprise trip for me. Just tell me to pack and have everything all worked out. That would be so romantic!
Ok, who is next????

1) Favorite gift I’ve given – Beautifully framed enlarged photo of the small snapshot that serves as my parents’ wedding photo. I gave it to my Mom last year. They did not have a big wedding or photos taken. So I found a photo of them on their honeymoon trip to New Jersey to meet his parents. Him in his uniform, her in her pretty 1950s silk dress on the roof of his parents’ apartment building in each others’ arms looking SO YOUNG. Dad died 10 years ago so it meant a lot to her. It is hanging in the dining room.
2) Favorite gift I’ve received – Tough one. The doberman/shepherd mix puppy my husband gave me the year before we married. I had Sasha for 17 years which was 3 more years than I had my darling DH. Also the autographed copy of Cerulean Sins by Laurell K Hamilton from my BFF
3) Carefully open. Makes my family and friends nuts!
4) Did I buy myself a gift? Yes, BOOKS!!! Romance novels, of course!
5) Paper and ribbon. More suspense.
6) Fantasy gift? 3 month trip to England
Buffie on 27 Dec 2007 at 10:11 am #

4) Nope, don’t buy myself gifts.
5) I love the paper and ribbons.
6) A trip to Europe and REAL diamond earrings!

1. Favorite gift given – a four wheeler for my son when he was eight. He just about fainted.
2. Best gift received – I found out I was pregnant twice, before Christmas!
Also, a white leather jacket from my husband a couple of years ago!
3. I carefully unwrap and immediately put the paper in the garbage bag.
4. I always buy myself gifts, books and clothes mainly.
5. I love the pretty gift bags, because then I have them for next year! I also like getting gifts in baskets!
6. I would love any or all—a. A trip to Europe where I would visit museums, shop, be pampered in spas and stay in a castle. b. An addition on my house, giving us another bathroom and family room. c. A full body makeover complete with lipo, boob lifts and tummy tuck. d. A publishing contract with Avon books where they would promptly proclaim me the next Kathleen E. Woodiwiss!
(Do I dream big or what?!)

Doglady, I wish I could give you the gift that keeps on giving…a certain FRO’s model! (I’d probably regift him, as I’m sure I’d use him first!)

Aww, cute questionare Karen. I Hope everyone had a safe & happy holiday!
1. Tickets for my now husband & I to a Sac Kings game sitting 3 rows from the court. Good Times.
2. We bought our first house a couple months ago and deemed that our present to ourselves this year. By far the best gift ever. Although last year, I did get taken to see Brett Favre play in San Francisco with pretty close seats… which means I got lots of great bending over pics I can drool over.
3. I’m somewhere in the middle… I don’t go at the paper like I’m the tasmanian devil but I also can’t help at ripping the paper and doing some bow mashing either.
4. I bought myself Jude Deveraux’s new book, and the new Pirates DVD set.
5. Gift Bags w/ Curly Bows are most definitely my favorite. Paper is such a hassle…it may look prettier, but it’s a bigger pain.
6. My biggest fantasy gift? A Long (no weekend trip for me) Surprise trip to all the places in the world I want to see most. A truly grand adventure.
zambonigirl on 27 Dec 2007 at 11:35 am #

The best gift I ever gave was Phil, our dog. My Mom had just passed away and nobody was really in the mood to celebrate. I had a huge wrapped crate with a false bottom in the middle of my living room for a week. My son kept guessing what could possibly be in that big box. Two minutes before my entire family showed up, I transferred the puppy into the box.
I cannot tell you the joy he brought to everyone that night, and every day since.

1. Favorite gift you’ve given?
This year? A smart clock to my dh, who is always complaining about having to set clocks. It sets itself when you plug it in. Isn’t that cool?
2. Favorite gift you’ve received?
My electric throw. I get cold!
3. Do you rip open the packages…
I rip packages because I don’t care about the paper, but I do it AFTER I carefully remove the bow. Yes, I re-use bows and gift bags. It’s environmentally sound. It has nothing to do with being frugal. Nothing, I tell you.
4. Did you buy yourself a gift this year? What did you buy?
Why would I buy myself a gift?
I do order things, but I don’t consider them “gifts.”
5. Do you like paper wrapping and bows or gift bags and bows?
Don’t care. Whatever’s prettiest. A nice gift bag ensemble is better than ugly wrapping paper any day. I just like pretty (and shiny).
6. What would be your fantasy gift?
I’m with doglady–a three month visit to England, altho I’ll expand it to include the entire UK.

Darla – cute about your granddaugher and the socks. I remember when oldest was two or three she loved SPAM and a can cream of broccholi soup. Not sure where she got those likes – not from me, for sure. Anyway, she insisted we leave SPAM and C of Broc soup for Santa. We wrapped up a few cans and put them under the tree – she was so thrilled.
And we so stupidly bought her all those “real” presents. Who knew?
