“Sexy” is . . . .
Nov 7th 2007
Karen HawkinsGoddess Grins
My dh (dear heart) and I have an on-going wager. I’m not going to tell you who is wagering what until after I’m tabulated the results, but just to settle it, would you guys mind answering this very simple quiz? Please, please, please?
It’s about what women find sexy.
If THIS was YOUR guy (which he’s not, ’cause he’s MINE):

What would you find sexiest and why?
If he was dressed in:
a) jeans and a t-shirt, snug in alllll the right places (tried and true blue!)
b) tight black pants, white billowy shirt, black boots (romantic and hot!)
c) Armani suit, black overcoat, Rolex (classy and sassy!)
or d) nothing at all (bare and all there!)

Can I pick E) both A & C options. Or what about F) in a uniform?
If I’m only allowed 1, I’ll go with A.
doglady on 08 Nov 2007 at 12:35 am #
I would have to say all of the above depending on the occasion. However, my top picks are B and D. Now that is one singularly attractive hottie, Karen!
Karen Rose on 08 Nov 2007 at 12:37 am #
Gotta go with the Armani, Karen. Kind of Rourke-ish.
colinfirthfan on 08 Nov 2007 at 12:49 am #
Can I say all of the above?
My top picks would be A and B.
Lori on 08 Nov 2007 at 12:53 am #
Jeans and tshirt. Definitely. Nothing beats a great butt in a pair of 501s.
Ann in IL on 08 Nov 2007 at 4:05 am #
I’m probably too old to respond to this…………………but I would say C…………………… AFTER he shaved and had his hair cut.
Paula on 08 Nov 2007 at 4:18 am #
I’d have to say A and C. If only allowed one option it would have to be A, I agree with Lori.
Judy F on 08 Nov 2007 at 5:46 am #
I would pick A
Buffie on 08 Nov 2007 at 6:07 am #
Karen, I would have to go with A — jeans. Come on, half the fun is undressing the guy
Stacy ~ on 08 Nov 2007 at 6:16 am #
Definitely A - jeans. Yum. I think a nice, worn pair of jeans on a guy that shows off his cute butt are very sexy because they emphasize his masculinity (pun intended
) and I associate them with a blue-collar kinda guy who works with his hands, and I love that. And he looks like he’s ready for anything, whether it’s a picnic, or a ride on his motorcycle or carrying you off somewhere. Um hmm, love ‘em.
Stacy S on 08 Nov 2007 at 6:20 am #
I’d go with A or all above!
DebMarlowe on 08 Nov 2007 at 6:56 am #
A or B with *Boots!*
Karen, is that your Hugh? Oh, my.
Margaret on 08 Nov 2007 at 7:21 am #
A by a long shot.
Michellynn on 08 Nov 2007 at 7:21 am #
Well, I am a sucker for pretty much anything historical….and that would also extend to how a man is dressed (although, I do draw the line at white powdered wigs!! LOL ).
So, of course, I choose B.
I am more likely to drool over an actor in a period piece than in any other genre, AND just about every actor I can think of that I tend to do said drooling over has looked best (to me anyway) in a period piece…such as;
Hugh Jackman - The Prestige (or even in Kate and Leopold)
Richard Armitage - North & South
Colin Firth - Pride and Prejudice
Of course there is Clive Owen and Gerard Butler that haven’t been in tight pants and boots yet….but they were still quite hot in their respective period pieces (King Arthur and 300). But now I am just digressing and thinking about dreamy actors in general…. LOL
Anyway…my vote is still B. LOL
Karen Hawkins on 08 Nov 2007 at 7:58 am #
This is very interesting!
I thought I was a C, but then I found a pic of Hugh in jeans and tshirt and I began to waver. He looked so HOT.
However, when I escorted a student group to Italy years ago, we were at a cafe early one morning and this guy came striding down the street. He was wearing a suit like only the Italians know how to make and he looked incredible — dark eyes, black hair, a very dapper overcoat, and oh so powerful and sexy. The wind was blowing just so, ruffling the edge of his overcoat and hair. Wow.
I can’t adequately describe the moment, but every woman in the group, from age 18 to 36, just stopped and stared. I even remember that moment as if it happened in slow motion. Afterwards one of the girls turned to me and said, “Ms. Hawkins, THANK YOU for bringing me to Italy and broadening my horizons!”
Ah, child, I was broadening my own, too! I think every hero I’ve ever written has a bit of that man built into him and yet I have no idea who he was.
Karen Hawkins on 08 Nov 2007 at 7:59 am #
Oh! And yes, that’s my Hugh.
Gannon on 08 Nov 2007 at 8:02 am #
Ahhh, Hugh! Is there anything, or nothing, he wouldn’t look good in?!
I was thinking A–love a nice arse in some jeans, but the Armani look is soooo sexy! Karen Rose, you’re right, it is a bit Roarke-ish and he is HAWT!
Karen, I love the Italy story. Those Italian men definitely know how to work the suit. I broadened my horizons when I was living there, too! Mamma mia!
claudia dain on 08 Nov 2007 at 8:03 am #
First things first…Hugh is not YOURS. He’s mine. I don’t share well, either. Haven’t we been through this, Karen? You have got to stop obsessing about MY man.
Hugh in jeans and a t-shirt is always nice; it’s what he wears when he’s washing the car and making a quick run to Target to buy a new shower curtain. Who doesn’t get a thrill from seeing a man work around the house?
But Hugh in Armani, dressed to kill and to impress, wins it by a nose. That long frame draped in a suit cut to perfection. Yea. He’s working it.
Keri Ford on 08 Nov 2007 at 8:04 am #
Hands down option A.
Ellen on 08 Nov 2007 at 8:22 am #
Im thinking that I would like to start out with B and make my way to D.
Karen Hawkins on 08 Nov 2007 at 8:43 am #
Back off, Claudia! He’s m-i-n-e. I know because he uh . . . told me so. That’s right! He told me so when he was uh . . . with me in uh . . . New York. Yeah! That’s it! He was with me in New York and he told me was mine because uh . . . he uh . . . the ropes were too, uh . . . well, he said it anyway.
And Ellen, ah! The infamous ‘working my way’ to. That’s a great methodology you got going there! I like it!
Lisa H on 08 Nov 2007 at 8:58 am #
Since Pirate garb was not an option, and I’m an Italian girl, I’d have to go with C. I love a man in a nice suit, if he is wearing Armani, he probably smells good too, and he might even remove a velvet box from the inner pocket of his well cut coat and present his lady with a bauble of some sort…
I’m with Ellen, I’d like to work my way to D, but then again A and B would be okay too.
How is that for a difinitive answer?
Lisa H on 08 Nov 2007 at 9:00 am #
Karen–at first I thought the picture was of Keith Urban.
SuzyQ on 08 Nov 2007 at 9:09 am #
Well I did meet Hugh while he was wearing jeans and a t-shirt and I can definitely say that was sexy! Especially since his hair was still wet from a shower – yeah, definitely sexy. But I would have to agree with Claudia, C wins by a nose. There’s just something about a man dressed in a fine suit.
twolilhahas on 08 Nov 2007 at 9:24 am #
I’m going with C.
Sonja Foust on 08 Nov 2007 at 9:33 am #
A all the way, but any of em would work. I wouldn’t complain.
Julia London on 08 Nov 2007 at 9:54 am #
It depends. If I was wearing my regency-era empire waistline gown with flowing train, and tiny little beaded slippers, I would say C. But if you mean today, with me in shorts and flips flops, I would say A. A and/or C to be followed closely by D, of course.
Santa on 08 Nov 2007 at 10:33 am #
Jeans, definately jeans. T-shirt optional. Oh, and thanks for the visual for my latest!
Gannon on 08 Nov 2007 at 10:33 am #
It seems clear that no matter if we pick A, B or C, we all agree that D is ultimately where we should end up. Aren’t we smart??!!
Mia Rose on 08 Nov 2007 at 10:37 am #
How about he starts out wearing A (but can I add a worn out baseball cap to that ensemble please…)
and then shortly thereafter he merges to wearing D.
That sounds like the best plan to me.
twolilhahas on 08 Nov 2007 at 10:44 am #
lol Gannon. D is where we should end up. You got it!
Sabrina Jeffries on 08 Nov 2007 at 11:00 am #
Okay, we all agree on the D being the final choice eventually, but I have to say I’d choose B. What can I say–I like the romancey clothes? But I’d like the other two as well. Honestly, it’s a very hard choice.
Or what about shorts? Or a speedo? Or ….
Yes, I can’t help it–I always go to D eventually.
Karen Hawkins on 08 Nov 2007 at 11:18 am #
LisaH, you’re like me, you WANT them to say e) all of the above, so you don’t have to make a decision. I’m with you, girlfriend! I think he’d look good in all of them. As for Keith Urban … no, though the hair is a bit the same there, isn’t it?
SuzyQ, I’m so jealous. I try not to be jealous and think ‘there’s enough Hugh for everyone,’ but it’s not working and I’m jealous anyway. I’m glad he’s a hot in person as on stage. I’m still reeling from the whole ‘Sylvester Stallone is only 5 feet tall” debacle.
The rest of you guys racing to D are making me laugh! I’m with you, though. Stage dressing FIRST, and THEN the Big D!
ct009ct on 08 Nov 2007 at 11:22 am #
Give me a man in a suit every time……my dh looks very very nice in them (or out of them, now that you all mention it)
jessie on 08 Nov 2007 at 11:24 am #
I’d pick A.
Karen B on 08 Nov 2007 at 11:26 am #
AAAAAAA+
Freshechelle on 08 Nov 2007 at 11:48 am #
Definitely A. I get enough of good looing jerks in well cut suits at work. My company make suits that make the guys here look great but it doesn’t make the words from their mouth any more appealing.
That said, there is a Conde Nast ad that runs in Women’s Wear Daily about twice a month with your beloved Hugh Jackman in a great suit, reclining in a chair, feet up on a ledge looking out over the magnificent city and it is drool worthy. Hunt it down, it’s worth the search.
Ronlyn on 08 Nov 2007 at 11:49 am #
how about an option for all of the above? There is nothing (NOTHINGNOTHINGNOTHING) sexier than a man who is comfortable in his own skin and can wear the clothes rather than have the clothes wear him. (KWIM?) The man who is really comfortable wearing the armani to a big power meeting, but the jeans & tee shirt to do stuff around the house, to just being in the buff when the timing is right.
twolilhahas on 08 Nov 2007 at 11:57 am #
Karen, I laughed out loud at your Big D comment.
Karen Hawkins on 08 Nov 2007 at 11:58 am #
I was a bit naughty with that one, wasn’t I? A bit off sides.
It happens sometimes. ;D
PJ on 08 Nov 2007 at 12:07 pm #
An Italian man in a well cut suit is definitely a horizon broadening experience but an Italian man in well worn jeans? Oh mama! Fanning myself vigorously over here. (grin)
Casting my vote for A.
anneriailin on 08 Nov 2007 at 12:07 pm #
My choice would definitely be B. I can just picture him in that outfit on a horse with the wind whipping his hair around and plastering the shirt to his chest as he rides up to sweep me off my feet to ride off into the sunset. *sigh*

That’s the one Suzy Q!
Suzanne Enoch on 08 Nov 2007 at 12:34 pm #
I’m going with A, and adding that he should be barefoot. For me it’s not so much the clothes as what they imply — in jeans and a t-shirt (and barefoot) he’s at home, comfortable, and mine. It’s more intimate than the other choices, without being blatant (the “big” D). *g*
Coincidentally, that’s the pic I put up when I’m writing my Sam and Rick books. The hair’s a bit too long, but not by much. And the rest….. Sorry, I drooled.
TrustMe_2_Forget on 08 Nov 2007 at 12:40 pm #
I have to go with A
Lisa H on 08 Nov 2007 at 12:47 pm #
Karen, I know this is a poll on what men should wear, but a bigger turn on for me is the hair factor. I like a man with longish hair, (like Johnny Depp or even Hugh in the above picture) Also I like hair on the chest, and a very defined treasure trail…I’m just sayin’!
kim h on 08 Nov 2007 at 12:51 pm #
all those look so good and any hot guy. i love guy in unforms but nothign at all is great
twolilhahas on 08 Nov 2007 at 1:04 pm #
Lisa H, I’m with you on the longish hair. It’s a really huge turn-on for me. However, I prefer and slickety-smooth, bronzed chest.
I’m not against a happy trail, but the biggest turn on for me are those (I guess ab) muscles that almost point the way to, as Karen so nicely put it, the big D. haha I love those muscles to be really defined. sigh
Lisa H on 08 Nov 2007 at 1:50 pm #
If Johnny Depp ever came by my house say between 12:00 - 3:00 when the older kids are in school and the baby is taking a nap, and lets say while he and I were conversing in a very decorious manner, a lock of his beautiful dark hair, fell forward, brushing his cheek, and if I just reached up and pushed said lock back, I think I would instantly die of extreme unadulterated pleasure. Do you see how much I love that longish hair?
I know this is not a blog about Johnny and his hair, so again I appologize for changing topic on all you ladies!
Kay on 08 Nov 2007 at 2:00 pm #
Oh, nothing is as sexy (IMHO) as a man who knows how to wear a suit. AHHHHHHH. DH and I are going out to a benefit dinner tonight, sigh, and DH will have an occasion to be in his best suit. Confident and well-dressed are a turn on.
Karen Hawkins on 08 Nov 2007 at 2:09 pm #
Oh my gosh! That picture! That HUGH! Wow. I’m using it as my wallpaper now. THANK YOU! I hadn’t seen that and boy, did I need to!
Hair is an interesting point and it depends on the outfit. Hugh with his hair long would look divine in the jeans and tshirt. But if he has on the suit, I want him neatly trimmed, very powerful and I-Own-The-Company sort of way.
Suzanne, that’s interesting about barefeet being intimate. That’s true, I think. It’s something my dh has said to me before, that he loves that I go barefooted all over the place. I was a bit surprised at that, but then he said a woman who’d walk barefoot was a woman who didn’t sit around looking in the mirror all of the time. I think he associates it with a free spirit sort of thing.
Lisa H, that’s a great JD scenario! And you’re right - Depp with long hair is verrah sigh-worthy.
Kay, enjoy your dh in his suit! AND the benefit dinner, too.
elsiehogarth on 08 Nov 2007 at 2:54 pm #
Definitely A & C…especially C when you are in NYC and in the Finance District…there are some HOT men there ithat look great but also smell OHHHH SO GOOD.
Santa on 08 Nov 2007 at 3:01 pm #
Thank you for that link, SuzyQ! I’m adding it to my screensaver montage. I think it’s safe to say that everybody’s crazy about THAT sharp dressed man!
Sherri Erwin on 08 Nov 2007 at 5:22 pm #
There’s just not a wrong answer in this quiz. I think Karen Hawkins should write the new SATs.
Lisa H on 08 Nov 2007 at 5:54 pm #
Karen, did we help you win your bet? I hope you get something real nice…
krystal on 08 Nov 2007 at 6:02 pm #
I would have to say either A or C. I love guys who can pull off casual, but I can’t resist a guy in a suit, especially Hugh! I’m so torn!
twolilhahas on 08 Nov 2007 at 6:16 pm #
I have to admit…Hugh’s actually lookin’ good in the blog pic up there.
Normally, I’m not a Hugh kinda girl. It’s like that song, “Every girl’s crazy about a sharp-dressed man…” It’s true…even Hugh looks hot in a suit. (I know you guys don’t mind me not diggin’ on Hugh, cuz that leaves more Hugh for you all, right?)
Karen Hawkins on 08 Nov 2007 at 6:24 pm #
Twolil, Hugh isn’t for everyone. Actually, he’s JUST FOR ME!
BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HA! HA! Ha! ha! ha. h a a a . . . .
Well, I thought that was funny.
Anyway, no problem that you’re not a Hugh Gal. We’re all about diversity here at Mt. Oly. You’re allowed to like who you like with no Hugh Peer Pressure. We save our conflict for our romance novels.
I do have to say, though, that’s a stellar pic. One of the best e-v-e-r.
I’ll post the outcome of the wager this evening. Want to be sure everyone has weighed in!
twolilhahas on 08 Nov 2007 at 6:31 pm #
ROFL…You got me twice today, Karen. I usually only grin at stuff I read online, but I’ve laughed out loud twice.
Karen Hawkins on 08 Nov 2007 at 6:50 pm #
Well, you guys do the same for me all of the time. Can’t tell you the number of times I’ve snickered aloud. My dh will just look up from his book, smile and say, “Blogging?”
Marie on 08 Nov 2007 at 6:55 pm #
a, because the guy next door look makes my heart pound.
But can I have my man dressed in it instead?
ladydawgfan on 08 Nov 2007 at 7:25 pm #
Chimin’ in here!! I’ll go with a combination of A and D. I love looking at a guy with a tight butt surrounded by button-fly jeans and no shirt. Abs glistening in the sun. Butt muscles flexing as he works. *ahem* Sorry, got carried away there for a minute.
BTW, where is the selection for the guy in the tux?
Ronlyn on 08 Nov 2007 at 7:32 pm #
ok, for the sake of the poll I’ll pick A.
And I agree, barefoot is best.
Meg on 08 Nov 2007 at 8:06 pm #
A! A! I love to see a guy in a pair of jeans that fit and a great t-shirt. And, ladydawgfan, I love watching a man work, too. This past summer, when my house was being set up, I spent a lot of time with the contractor talking and watching him work. On those HOT days when the shirt came off… Wow. Thank god I was wearing my shades so he couldn’t see my eyes almost bug out of my head!
Kelly Ann on 08 Nov 2007 at 9:06 pm #
BBBBBB! I do love all of the above too, but if I had to choose it would be B. Hugh is hot in that picture! He would look awsome in B, stepping down from the carriage he drove in to pick ME up! Looking at me like he is in that pictures, taking me in his arms to kiss me senseless! Yes, B!
Kathy on 08 Nov 2007 at 10:23 pm #
I may be voting a little late, but I would like this to be an all day affair so start with
D in the am,
onto C for lunch, and A for dinner, with a little bit of B for after dinner dessert. Finished off with a nice hot bubbling soak in the bathtub, with D. Ahhhhhhh……
Aspen on 08 Nov 2007 at 10:42 pm #
C of course. An expensive suit looks great and means he is financially stable and then some!
Very important ladies!
Fav men in suits Roark and Rick Addison
Karen Hawkins on 09 Nov 2007 at 8:26 am #
They’re all sexy outfits — as sexy as the man wearing them. But everyone seems to have a preference.
The wager was this: I said that men look for women who wear LESS and the less the better and that’s what they find sexy. Meanwhile women look at HOW men wear their clothes and that LESS wasn’t necessarily the first preference for a woman. He disagreed and thought women would choose D out of this survey and so would men.
Most of you named a, b, or c as your preference before d. Well, my dh ran this by the guys at his work, but used Angelina Jolie as the model, and they almost all said D first and then one of the others. (They were all the same except B, which was a lacy sundress instead of the tight black pants and flowing white shirt).
So, I WON, I WON! WOOHOO! Guess I’ll be picking the restaurant of my choice tonight! Helllooooo, Seasons 52!
Thank you all for particpating!
Helen K on 09 Nov 2007 at 11:18 am #
LOL Karen, what a great wager! I’m sorry I missed the poll (I would have been an A) But, honestly, I think most men (unless I’m in an intimate situation with them) look WAAAAAAY better with their clothes on.
When I lived in England, they had French movies on our limited channels and I always walked away thinking “boy are those French a little out there.” And “Men should not walk around talking on the phone naked. It’s just not cool seeing all their dangly bits - dangly”
Cured me of any desire to see American movies go toward more frontal male nudity. (rear ends are fine nude… )
And I know at the pool, I’ve (quietly) drooled over plenty of men, until they got down to their swimsuits and then, well, they really weren’t all that.
Hmmm, maybe I’m just shallow? I feel the same about most women’s clothing. I’ve seen far sexier (to me) clothes that are covering than I have of the skimpy stuff.
Karen Hawkins on 09 Nov 2007 at 12:02 pm #
***snicker*** Dangly bits!
I think there’s a lot to be said for teasing sexuality rather than overt sexuality, but I don’t know that most men would agree to that, even if they’d be affected by it. Sometimes, what we want and what we THINK we want, aren’t quite the same!
Kim on 09 Nov 2007 at 12:51 pm #
Karen–I totally agree with you. For me, as a woman, to dress sexy I want to be alluring. I want to hint at sexiness. Showing your breast and puter to the world is not sexy. BRITNEY SPEARS: take note!
amy1242 on 09 Nov 2007 at 3:34 pm #
I love that picture of Hugh with his feet up! I really like the surrounding room too. That little wooden guy in the background with his wanger hangin’ makes me laugh! Where do you get things like that? It would be a great conversation piece!
Kathy Jennings on 12 Nov 2007 at 12:25 pm #
Hey, Karen!!
Definately he has the “pirate looK” and that is a big turn on for me! I can see
him standing on the deck with the wind sweeping through those dark locks!
He is definately in the “B’ catagory!

i would have to go with b, there is just something about black !!!!
Karen Hawkins on 14 Nov 2007 at 10:22 am #
Lol! Take note, world . . . Debbie LOVES men in black!
So do I, actually. There is something dark and dangerous about a man dressed all in black. When I see a woman in black I think a) she wants to look thinner, or b) she’s on her way to a funeral. But a man … Yowsa!
