Back to Our Regularly Scheduled Program

Yay, my new book’s out! (Okay. Had to get that out of the way.)

I’ve been perusing the new television season. And whereas last year I don’t think there was more than one show I was disappointed to see come and then go, this year I’m seeing some things that look…dare I say it? Interesting! Entertaining! Possibly good!

I have my staples – Stargate: Atlantis, Ghosthunters, Dr. Who, Heroes (my one yay from last season), Bones, Supernatural, Smallville, and a few others. Hey, most of those are science fiction or paranormal. Hm.

So far this season, I’ve seen and yawned at Journeyman (when you wish the hero would stay home with his family, that’s not a good sign for an adventure show), and the Bionic Woman (though I’ll give this one another try because half the cast of Battlestar Galactica was on it). chuck.jpgBut, I liked Chuck. A reluctant hero with a definite geeky side working for the government, and it’s funny. I really liked Reaper – a reluctant hero with a definite geeky side working for the devil, and it’s VERY funny.reaper1.jpg

Being a Dr. Who fan (omg, David Tennant) I’ve seen the evolution of the “Torchwood” secret organization, and as a show on its own, I’m really enjoying Torchwood. And the lead, Captain Jack Harkness, is quite good-looking, which doesn’t hurt. That’s him below.torchwood1.jpg

My potentially favorite new show: Moonlight. A 60-year old vampire working as a P.I. in Los Angeles and half in love with a reporter he saved from a vampire when she was seven years old. The premiere was so-so, but the scenes for the upcoming season looked so full of romantic potential. I can’t wait to see episode 2.moonlight.jpg

The one that hasn’t premiered yet but that I’m looking forward to: New Amsterdam. It’s about a Dutch soldier who saved a Native American woman during the settlement of the New World, and in return she gives him immortality until he finds his true love. Four hundred years later, he’s a cop in New York, and when he has a heart attack, realizes that “she” must be close by. But where?new-amsterdam.jpg

Oh, and Hugh Jackman’s producing and occasionally appearing in the semi-musical Viva Laughlin coming soon on CBS. Got that, KarenH?

Chuck - NBC, Mondays at 8
Reaper - CW, Tuesdays at 9
Torchwood - BBC America, Saturdays at 6 (& 9)
Moonlight - CBS, Fridays at 9
New Amsterdam - Fox, unknown

How’s the new televsion season looking to you? Any favorites or dear-heaven-get-it-off-the-airs for you yet? What are your favorite shows currently on the air?

Ok,premiere week is my favorite week of the year.

I LOVED Moonlight. When I saw the previews I was like another Angel. Okay, I’ll check it out, but it can’t possibly live up to it. Angel was my first Sci-fi show I was brave enough to watch. Hey I was only 12 when it came out.
But it more than surpassed it.

Private Practice is going to be great. Who can get enough of Grey’s Anatomy not me. Private Practice I heard tonight is contracted for something like 7 years.

Dirty, Sexy, Money is also going to be great. I will bawl if that one goes off. I think it brings morals back to tv. It outweighs the horrible antics of Desperate Housewives.

  2. Marie on 02 Oct 2007 at 1:38 am #

I forgot to add that I thought he was 90. The vampire I mean.

  3. Aemelia on 02 Oct 2007 at 6:49 am #

I’m addicted to UGLY BETTY…I love that show, it’s so dang funny, and it has made me cry :-( I also like CHUCK, BONES, HOUSE, CSI-Crime Scene Investigation, ER, LAS VEGAS, JERICHO, and am looking forward to AMERICAN IDOL…

  4. gillian on 02 Oct 2007 at 7:02 am #

We LOVED Moonlight as well, and yes, if they don’t screw it up it will be full of romance. I have my fingers crossed for it. Otherwise, we watch NCIS, and are waiting for Robin Hood to come back.

Have enjoyed the first two episodes of HEROES. No spoilers, but there were some pieces to last night’s program that I never expected.

I can’t take on any more TV addictions right now. I’m on deadline, LOL.

ahh the new tv season. A topic near and dear to my heart.
for retruning shows, I’m so happy about Bones, Heroes and Ugly Betty.
For the new ones, I’m getting a real kick out of Dirty Sexy Money, Gossip Girl, and Chuck. there are a few more in both categories, but I’d take up the whole blog. my two vcrs and digital boxes work overtime trying to catch everything! man I need a dvr!
By the time I got to the end of Moonlight, I was pleasantly surprised. I was prepared to hate it- nothing can come close to Buffy and Angel in terms of production value and storyline when it deals with vampires. I’m missing my Buffy dvd set right now..sniff. loaned it to a friend’s neice in another province. sigh. in August.sigh. after Thanksgiving it better come back. what was I talking about ?
Heroes is keeping up the qualiy of last season. I won’t give spoilers either..but it’s all good.
I’ve have no deadline. so I can enjoy in the wee hrs right now.

Between working 60 hours a week, and a 7 year old, my only TV addiction right now is Avatar on Nickelodian. Someday I’m sure I’ll get to be an adult again…I did get to catch 10 minutes of David Letterman last night. I don’t miss not seeing tv, which is the good part. I am, however, enjoying dvd’s of 21 Jumpstreet and Smallville.
If I start watching TV, I’d have to give up either reading time or blogging time. HMMMM….nah…I’ll just catch it on dvd someday!

  8. Dot C on 02 Oct 2007 at 8:09 am #

Sherri Erwin…your book was a great read! It’s so bittersweet, and really makes you think about what real love is, and how real love can impact real life and the choices we all have to make. Don’t forget to sign your stock in all the MA bookstores!!! (Maine and NH TOO!!)Seriously, this is going to be my soapbox for the fall! I also think you guys need to get your publishers to pay for a goddess book tour. That would totally rock the house! Author panels are really hot right now in place of traditional meet and greets. Many of you already have your own notoriety, and can use that to bolster some of the newer goddesses. It would be a really awesome tour!

    oh wow! I forgot!
Suzanne, I finished your new book the other night! wow! loved it! Especially loved the Star Wars references. No spoiling it for other readers, but I just wanted to say I really enjoyed it. Now back to tv land! charge!

  10. SuzyQ on 02 Oct 2007 at 8:23 am #

I haven’t watched that many of the new shows, but I was disappointed in Bionic Woman. I have so many shows I tape that my DVR is already having scheduling conflicts. Thankfully many of the networks now offer the full episodes on the internet. I missed Moonlight, which I really wanted to see. Suzanne - thanks for the listing of the days and times.

My standbys are still Ghosthunters, Smallville, Bones, Heroes, CSI (the original), and Dancing with the Stars. Hey, I gotta watch Cameron (Ryan) from AMC!

And I cannot wait until October 18 (10:00) for the premier of Viva Laughlin. Yes, Hugh Jackman will be in the first episode!!

  11. Sherri Erwin on 02 Oct 2007 at 9:01 am #

Dot C, thanks so much! I just popped in to see what the goddesses were up to and you made my day.

As for new shows, I’ll give Moonlight a second chance but I didn’t love the first show. It dragged and the lead actor doesn’t do it for me. I do like Chuck. I’ve heard Pushing Daisies is one to watch. The new Bionic Woman didn’t thrill me either. No bionic sound effects! Who doesn’t remember those original bionic sound effects? All my friends wanted to be bionic when I was a kid- LOL!

  12. Dev on 02 Oct 2007 at 9:09 am #

My favorite new show is definitely Moonlight. I’m smitten with Mick St. John ~ he’s just yummy. I really hope this show makes it ~ networks these days are too quick to pull a show without giving it a chance to gain a fanbase.

  13. Susan K on 02 Oct 2007 at 10:06 am #

My favorite new show of the season is Private Practice on Wednesdays. My favorites that are back from last season are Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters.

  14. Julia London on 02 Oct 2007 at 10:16 am #

This is great. I haven’t seen any of the new shows yet. Now I know: Chuck and Moonlight sound like clear winners.

But like Aemelia, I too am waiting for American Idol. IN the meantime, I will watch the American Band. That looks like fun!

Dot, I loved Sherri’s book, too! It’s really unique in a field of books that are starting to read the same. Not hers!

  15. Meg on 02 Oct 2007 at 10:23 am #

Oh, Suzanne, I LOVE Ghosthunters!! An absolute must-see for me. When I went to Boston in July to visit my sister, we made special plans to drive down to Warwick the day that we were going to Providence. Just a random little town, but I saw the water tower and the “store-front” that they are always showing. I thought it was neat. :-) I also like to watch Dancing With The Stars, Law & Order: SVU (I love Elliot), and Law & Order: CI.

  16. Suzanne Enoch on 02 Oct 2007 at 10:26 am #

Marie, you’re right — Mick St. John is 90, having been a vampire for 60 years.

  17. Sabrina Jeffries on 02 Oct 2007 at 10:27 am #

These days I purposely don’t add new shows because I can’t even keep up with the old ones I watch (the L&O’s, Without a Trace, Cold Case, and all the Charmed episodes I’m catching up on). I do occasionally get accidentally sucked in, which is what happened to me last year with Studio 60. I loved that show. Really loved it. Couldn’t stand it when they gave it the axe.

This year, my dh and I added K-ville, for obvious reasons (see yesterday’s blog *G*). I really like it already, and I think the writing’s pretty good, but I don’t know if that’s because of my New Orleans bias. It’s pretty accurate, except for when they put places in places they don’t exist (the airport by the river, for example) for dramatic effect. I suspect it’s not going to catch on with the general public, but I’ll watch it anyway. I can’t help it. I like seeing home.

  18. Suzanne Enoch on 02 Oct 2007 at 10:27 am #

Gillian — how could I forget “Robin Hood”? Shoot! Love that show, and if I remember correctly, Sabrina Jeffries is also a fan. Sabrina?

  19. dbrown3400 on 02 Oct 2007 at 10:42 am #

I’m looking forward to New Amsterdam and Viva Laughlin but currently watch as follows:

    Mon: CSI: Miami
Tue: Bones, House (a great combination)
    Wed: Criminal Minds, CSI NY
    Thu: CSI
Fri: Las Vegas now that Tom Selleck is on the show.
Am I missing something on the weekend besides The Wire, which will start later this fall?

I’m starting to watch Heroes and might order the prior season DVDs if I get hooked.

I got away from L&O: SVU but this looks like a good season so may pick up on that again. I watch a lot of PBS and don’t watch as much in general as I used to.

Suzanne, as usual the UPS man delivered your book, but he was two weeks early for some reason this time (9/20?) I still have Twice and this one to read. Claudia, you’re in like Flynn.

  20. dbrown3400 on 02 Oct 2007 at 10:44 am #

I already miss my favorite “summer show”, Burn Notice. It was one of the freshest for me in awhile.

  21. Aspen on 02 Oct 2007 at 10:49 am #

Moonlight looks interesting but I love Lifetimes Blood Ties. Henry the oh so hot and helpful vampire is way hotter than that moonlight guy.
The new season starts October 12 at 11 on Lifetime.

  22. Suzanne Enoch on 02 Oct 2007 at 11:02 am #

Cool, Meg! You got to see the TAPS headquarters. I’m jealous.

dbrown, yes, I enjoyed “Burn Notice”, too. Of course I’ll watch any show that has Bruce Campbell in it. *g*

Aspen — I liked “Blood Ties,” too. The female lead was a little too brassy for my taste, but yes, Henry Fitzroy, bastard son of Henry VIII and vampire graphic novelist, very cool. I had no idea it had been renewed. Thanks for letting me know!

  23. cail on 02 Oct 2007 at 11:03 am #

New Amsterdam sounds great. I hope FOX puts their episodes on the company website.

I watched the season premieres of Ugly Betty and Grey’s last week, I usually end up just watching them on abc.com

Private Practice will be another of my website watching ones.

  24. cail on 02 Oct 2007 at 11:06 am #

btw, the way i read books is to find a backlist of an author that i know, or i’m told that i’ll like and start at the beginning. Suzanne, you’re my current author. I’ll get to the new one eventually… can’t wait. Which is your favorite of your backlist?

  25. doglady on 02 Oct 2007 at 11:38 am #

I liked Moonlight as well. It was not too “kitchy” for lack of a better word and looks as if it has great potential. Loved the vampire executive type - a stressed out vampire? Very cool. Chuck was worth a second look. I want to catch Pushing Up Daisies because of the Six Feet Under connection. I love CSI, the original version and NCIS. The rest of the season has not reached out and grabbed me yet. Oh well, as long as the Goddesses keep writing I will always have something to do when I’M not writing!! Actually two of my favorite, never miss shows are on public television - Keeping Up Appearances and Are You Being Served? - I love British comedy. I try to catch Antique Road Show - both versions whenever I can. I will probably give Viva Laughlin a try just because of the divine Mr. J

  26. ladydawgfan on 02 Oct 2007 at 11:51 am #

What am I watching this season?

Mondays, we watch Heroes, of course, and then CSI Miami. But last night, my mother and I watched Big Bang Theory for the first time and laughed our selves silly all the way through it. Great fun, which means they’ll probably cancel it fast.

Tuesdays mean NCIS, and then House and the Unit clashing with each other (TG for DVR).

Wednesday, Deal or No Deal is followed by Criminal Minds and CSI:NY while Ghosthunters is taping in the background on the DVR.

Thursday, Survivor is followed by CSI and Without a Trace.

Fridays, I like Ghost Whisperer and Numbers, but wasn’t too sure about Moonlight when I saw it last Fri.

    Sat. is college FB day.

Sun is Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Cold Case and Shark.

And I would LOVE it if any of the Goddesses who were leaf peeping in VT came through the Burlington area and signed shelf stock. But please let us know when you do so we can get to the appropriate stores in time to get signed copies.

  27. Suzanne Enoch on 02 Oct 2007 at 12:01 pm #

Gosh, Cail, choosing my favorite book is like choosing my favorite child. Still…Historically speaking, I would have to say ENGLAND’S PERFECT HER. That’s the one I’m proudest of writing.

Contemporary, FLIRTING WITH DANGER, since it’s the first of the Sam and Rick books.

    Hope that helps!

  28. cail on 02 Oct 2007 at 12:06 pm #

    you live in burlington?

  29. cail on 02 Oct 2007 at 12:07 pm #

thanks Suzanne! (btw, the burlington comment was obviously directed to LDF)

  30. Lisa H on 02 Oct 2007 at 12:09 pm #

First, Suzanne —Do you know the post office has Star Wars stamps right now? You probably do, but just in case, I wouldn’t want you to miss out on them.

Number 2—I don’t watch any TV except for Desperate Housewives and Monk. I am too busy READING

  31. Lisa H on 02 Oct 2007 at 12:11 pm #

sorry got cut off—as I was saying READING all you talented ladies’ books! (sorry for the bad grammar, I’, peri-menopausal and don’t care!)

The minute I get the last kid to bed, I grab my book and head to my room and spend the next hour or two reading. The books you ladies write are 100 times better than anything on TV!

  32. ladydawgfan on 02 Oct 2007 at 12:20 pm #

    South Burlington, Cail. Pourquoi??

  33. cail on 02 Oct 2007 at 12:32 pm #

Well, I’m one of the people going up to Vermont soon. I’ll be at the Old Rounch Church for my grandmothers book signing in 10 days

  34. Sabrina Jeffries on 02 Oct 2007 at 2:08 pm #

Ooh, yeah, Robin Hood! I’m needing my Richard Armitage and Jonas Armstrong fix. Does anyone happen to know when it’s coming back?

  35. Suzanne Enoch on 02 Oct 2007 at 2:13 pm #

Thanks, LisaH — yes, I have two uncut flats from the Post Office. I had to order them online. I’m going to frame them.

I have no idea when Robin Hood will be back, Sabrina. I’ve looked at the BBC America website, but they don’t say, either. Not that I can tell, anyway.

And Cail, your grandmother is an author? What did she write?

  36. lisa on 02 Oct 2007 at 5:01 pm #

I don’t watch a lick of TV but I’m really looking forward to your new book. I’m hooked on Samantha and Rick.

  37. Meg on 02 Oct 2007 at 5:35 pm #

I’m with LisaH. A lot of times I would much rather be reading than watching TV.

  38. Nicole Jordan on 02 Oct 2007 at 5:57 pm #

I had to laugh, Suzanne, cause I really liked Journeyman and didn’t care for Chuck Loved the hero of Moonlight, but I don’t know that I’ll stick with the show since I’m not wild about vamps. And I’m really looking forward to New Amst. too.

Of the old ones, SG Atantis is still a comfort show. And so is Ugly Betty, Boston Legal, and Lincoln Heights on ABC Family, even though we don’t usually care for family shows.

  39. Aspen on 02 Oct 2007 at 7:34 pm #

    Hi Girls
    I did some sleuthing…
New Amsterdam is now going to be aired midseason :(
And I had no luck finding out the air date of Robin Hood. BBC America is supposed to run another 13 episodes this season…

  40. twolilhahas on 02 Oct 2007 at 7:42 pm #

I’m not really big into TV, but I do enjoy it when a new case comes on CourtTV. I like CSI pretty good, but hardly ever actually watch it. I enjoy the real life crime stories, and the autopsy lady, Dr. G. I always think of Karen Rose when I watch them now…and wonder if she watches stuff like that, too… lol

I like the shows on how stuff works, too. I think it comes on the science channel or something. They show how chocolate is made, or how PEZ is made, or how street lights are made. Stuff like that.

  41. Brandy on 02 Oct 2007 at 8:10 pm #

Chuck is funny, love it! Mondays is Chuck and CSI:Miami. Tuesdays is Bones! I’m trying Reaper this week and L&O:SVU seems to be much better this season. Wednesdays we dont’ really watch tv, we’re too busy running the kids to class. And I don’t have any set shows for the rest of the week, except for Moonlight, I really enjoyed that last week!

  42. TinaLouiseF on 03 Oct 2007 at 2:21 am #

Suzanne, A Touch of Minx, was great.

Since “The Closer” just finished season 3, the only thing on tv that I watch is “Bones”. Occassionally, I watch some forensic shows on CourtTV.

  43. Karen Hawkins on 03 Oct 2007 at 11:44 am #

I can tell I’m going to have to get the old TIVO fired up. I did see the CAVEMAN episode last night. Had some cute moments but … not sure it’s strong enough to maintain. It’ll be interesting to see how it goes.

A friend of mine taped DEXTER for me, but I’ve yet to watch it. I’m so easily addicted to shows that I avoid them. I’m already tied to the HGTV/STYLE/and OL decorating shows. It’s a sad, sad state of affairs.

And Suzanne, TOUCH OF MINX was WONDERFUL! Thanks for such a delightful story - you actually made me tear up and I rarely do that.

  44. Karen Hawkins on 03 Oct 2007 at 11:58 am #

And Suzie, I forgot to answer your question - YES … VIVE LAUGHLIN. Have it tatoo’d on my wrist so I won’t forget. Ohhh HUGH!

  45. Dilimis on 04 Oct 2007 at 2:53 pm #

I almost fell over when I saw the picture of Captain Jack. I watch both Torchwood and Dr. Who, but it’s not often that I find other people who know about them! I’m really looking forward to the next seasons. They keep getting better and better.

Torchwood and Dr. Who are the main shows for me, but I’m on the lookout for other options as well. I’ve been watching Lost, but my interest in it has been dying out. I’ll give this next season a try though.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Heros, so I think I’ll have to give it a try!
