The Goddesses welcome Sherri Erwin!

to-hell-with-love_final-se2.jpgThe Goddesses welcome SHERRI ERWIN to Mount Olympus today!

Before we surrender the podium to Sherri, here’s a word from Goddess Julia… To the Goddesses: I am so bummed I can’t be here to welcome one of my best pals, Sherri Erwin, to the blog. I know you’re going to love her–she’s probably the wittiest woman I know (no pressure, Sherri), and her writing crackles with it. You will love her book, To Hell With Love, about a woman who falls in love with the devil. Who can’t love a book who serves up Lord Byron as the devil’s minion? Have fun with the goddesses, Sherri! xoxoxox, Julia

.

Take it away, Sherri!

THE GIRL CRUSH

sherrib-2.jpgsherridemilo-2.JPGWhat I mean by “girl crush” is admiration for another woman so deep that we think about what it might be like to be her, or to be close friends with her. You know, like how we all feel about the goddesses. Girl Crush! I do want to be a goddess. I even made my own statue in case I was ever asked, and here I am for the day: dreams do come true.

But my first real girl crush was on Jodie Foster. Jodie caught my attention when she appeared on The Partridge Family as Danny’s tomboy gal pal. I wanted to be a Partridge! Though, more power to her, because I wasn’t ready to fake interest in Danny just to gain entry to the groovy family bus. I had standards– and a plan to kidnap and replace Tracy. Who would notice? I play a mean tambourine.

But anyway… Jodie seemed like a pretty cool girl and I paid attention when she popped up on the screen. What confidence! She lived jofoster-2.jpgthrough her awkward Freaky Friday phase in the public eye and she never seemed to mind the scrutiny. Plus, I thought I was pretty darn smart when I was a kid, but Jodie Foster? She went to exclusive prep schools where all classes were taught in French, and then she took an acting break to go to Yale. She weathered that whole stalker-willing-to-kill-for-attention crisis and bounced back to win an academy award with red-hot Julian Sands (Room with a View, hubba) at her side. Now she’s back in the limelight promoting her new movie, The Brave One, and I realize I still have that Girl Crush.

I imagine us meeting in a chic sidewalk cafe for a drink and an intellectual discussion. At some point, she’ll lean over and express interest in making To Hell with Love into a movie and taking the role of Kate. I can’t say I actually pictured Jodie as Kate, but Kate does share some of the qualities I admire in Jodie. Strong, smart women impress me. When I was writing To Hell with Love, I knew Kate had to be the kind of woman who could stand her ground against the ultimate temptation. I would have a bit of a girl crush on Kate, but I know her too well. She also shares my insecurities.

Who is your Girl Crush? And do you ever get girl crushes on fictional characters? Your own characters? What qualities do you admire most in other women?

Thank you for letting me join in the fun for a day. For more on TO HELL WITH LOVE, visit my website at http://www.sherribrowningerwin.com/, where signing up to join my mailing list automatically enters you in a drawing to win books.

Welcome Sherri! I’ve given this some thought. My two girl crushes would be:

    1) Danica MacKellar - Winnie Cooper from TV’s Wonder Years. She hasn’t followed the typical child star path. She went to UCLA and got a degree in math and has written a new book “Math Doesn’t Suck” - geared toward middle school girls. I’ve taught high school math at both ends of the spectrum - pre-calculus and remedial math. The kids in the latter struggled for a lot of reasons, but many think math “isn’t cool.” KUDOS to Danica for her push to make math cool for middle school girls. I bought her book for my own 8th grade daughter.

    2) Mariska Hargitay - I love her character of Olivia on Law and Order SVU - and I admire the non-profit work she does with survivors of assault. Her character of Olivia was always in my mind as I wrote NOTHING TO FEAR. Dana Dupinsky in my mind was very much like Olivia.

I’d love to meet and have lunch with either of these ladies!

  2. Karen Rose on 24 Sep 2007 at 1:00 am #

Oh, and having Mariska offer to play Dana in a movie version of NOTHING TO FEAR would be totally cool, too!

Great topic, Sherri - and I LOVE your goddess pic! I want a grass skirt!

  3. Stacy ~ on 24 Sep 2007 at 5:33 am #

A friend and I were just talking about Jodie Foster the other day, how she is such a likable person, and how you don’t hear about her involved in scandal after scandal. She keeps her private life private, raises her kids, does some interesting movies, and is rather fascinating for the life she’s lead.

I think I admire the actresses, singers, etc., who don’t spend all their time in the limelight. The ones who are actually productive and create something other than scandal.

Hmm, why is this so hard? I guess Drew Barrymore in a way would be one of mine, more because she genuinely seems to like people and has overcome her crazy childhood. I think she needs to settle on one guy though LOL. And Meg Ryan, because I see her wanting to shake that perky blonde image and do other things.

  4. Sherri Erwin on 24 Sep 2007 at 5:37 am #

Thank you for the warm welcome! Julia London writes quite an introduction. I’m going to have to bake her some Thank You brownies. Then I’ll bake Karen R. some Congratulations on the NYT brownies! Good crush picks, Karen.

  5. Sherri Erwin on 24 Sep 2007 at 5:41 am #

Stacy, Drew really has grown up well after such a shaky start. And it would be great to see Meg bounce back in a really strong movie role, wouldn’t it?

  6. Lisa H on 24 Sep 2007 at 7:37 am #

There is one character I have always wished I could be and that is Shanna from Kathleen E Woodiwiss’ book entitled Shanna. She is beautiful, smart, resourceful and is constantly being loved and adored by Ruark. Ruark is everything a man should be and then some!

I’d also like to be Johnny Depp’s girlfriend because, Hello–I’d be sleeping with him every night! Yo Ho!

  7. Korean Celt on 24 Sep 2007 at 7:43 am #

    Hey Sherri,
How’s it hanging? I’m stalking you from site to site because you’re my girl crush. :-) Does a girl crush count if it’s not with a real person? When I was in eighth grade I LOVED Laura Holt, the female detective on Remington Steele who was played by Stephanie Zimbalist. I didn’t want to be Stephanie Zimbalist, I wanted to be Laura Holt because I thought she was just about as cool as a girl could be. She was smart. She was stylish. She got to kiss Pierce Brosnan. I think that pretty much sums it up, but I really did sort of obsess over that character for quite some time. When I look back at it now, it’s hard to believe how much emotion I invested in a fictional character.

P.S. I bought THWL yesterday. I’m going to read it as soon as I finish one of Kathleen’s books.

  8. Karen Hawkins on 24 Sep 2007 at 7:43 am #

Oh Karen, I love Danica and Mariska! Did you know Mariska is Jane Mansfield’s daughter? Very cool picks!

And while I’ve never been a royal watcher, I always admired Princess Diana’s work in getting land mines removed. She put a lot of time and effort in that and when she spoke about it, you could tell she was passionate in her determination to see an end to them.

  9. amy1242 on 24 Sep 2007 at 7:50 am #

I’m sitting here, thinking and thinking, of someone I’ve ever girl crushed on. The closest I’ve ever come to a girl crush has to be Kathy Ireland. I met her once while on a photo shoot and she was so sweet and normal, I couldn’t believe it. I kept thinking, “Wow, she’s just like me, only famous.” I love the way she started her family and still did good things to promote women’s health. Other than her, just the goddesses on this blog come to mind. We’d all be fast friends given the chance. Although, I like being “me”.

  10. Dot C on 24 Sep 2007 at 7:55 am #

I think my ultimate girl crush is Oprah Winfrey. I would love to be her, to be able to make peoples dreams come true thru her angel network, to be able to affect the world of reading thru her book club, and really affect what people think about. I’m secretly wishing Oprah would run for president, and that Martha Stewart (my other girl crush) would be her vice-president. What a beautiful, crafty, and literate country we would have!!
If I could pick a fictitious heroine to have a girl crush on, it would be Meredith Gentry. A fairy princess that HAS to rotate her sex life amoung 15 gorgeous men. I mean…come on! And to be beautful and smart mouthed too…it’s a dream! I’d have picked Anita Blake, but she gets beat up too much. LOL
Welcome Sherri, when I found out you’d be visiting today, I placed your book on our top romance picks at our store. I’m giving it a read as we speak, and it really is fabulous so far!!

  11. Dot C on 24 Sep 2007 at 8:03 am #

PS - Congrats to Julia London on her Guiding Light Hardcover. In her first week, we sold out, and she is now on the Borders Best Sellers Top 10. I had to reorder because her slot is empty. YOU GO GIRL!!

  12. Sherri Erwin on 24 Sep 2007 at 8:11 am #

Thanks, DotC! Wow, I think I want to be Meredith Gentry, too. That’s not too shabby. Amy, I just saw a show on Kathy Ireland the other day and how she built a megamillion dollar empire– very impressive.

Karen, Diana was a girl crush of mine, too. I got up at three am to watch her wedding. Back then, I was plotting to catch Prince Edward’s eye so I could have a royal dream wedding, too. Lisa, I never read Shanna! I remember seeing it on my mom’s romance shelves, though. She loved Woodiwiss.

KC! Thanks for stalking me. I feel so cool now, a stalker of my very own. You know you’ve made it when…

  13. Ellen the Crusher on 24 Sep 2007 at 8:27 am #

Welcome Sherri! First let me congratulate you on the grass skirt concept. I imagine it would make shaving your legs optional. Oui?

My very first girl crush was Jacqueline Kennedy. I remember looking at the photos of her with her children and dashing husband and wanting to be her. When her husband was killed, the tragedy somehow elevated her to sainthood in my mind. Besides, if I was Jackie, I would be able to spend my days with John-John.

I also adored Katherine Hepburn. She had such a no nonsense approach to life and always said exactly what she thought. She ignored the social standards but never lost respect for them. If Kate considered you a friend, then you truly had to be someone interesting.

I considered Oprah, but then I realized I was only attracted to her wealth. I wanted to be invited to one of her incredible parties, on a yacht, somewhere off the coast of Bermuda.

I imagined myself in a grass skirt without a Bic disposable for miles!

  14. Nicole Jordan on 24 Sep 2007 at 8:55 am #

Hi and welcome to Mt. Oly, Goddess Sherri!! Your new book sounds so cool! And your grass skirt is perfect.

Wow, what a compliment — Julia London saying you’re the wittiest woman she knows. I have to meet you! I admit I have a crush on Julia because of her wit and warmth. I would love to be her talent at making people laugh.

Now you’re going to have to tell us more about TO HELL WITH LOVE. Is the hero really a protege of Lord Byron?

  15. Sherri Erwin on 24 Sep 2007 at 9:13 am #

Who doesn’t have a thing for Julia London? LOL! We’ve been close friends ever since our first RWA conference, Chicago 1999. (wow! time flies). I’ve really brought her out of her shell. ;-)

THWL’s hero is Hades. Lord Byron is his main minion. My first two books were Regency-period historicals and I had to pay homage somehow. Byron’s a bit of a scene-stealer. I’m contemplating giving him a book of his own. To Hell with Love has a sequel coming out in 2008.

  16. SuzyQ on 24 Sep 2007 at 9:19 am #

Welcome Sherri! BTW, you did a fab job on your goddess picture :)

I would have to say my first girl crush was Dorothy Hamill. Oh how I wanted to skate like her! I remember watching her win the gold medal at the Olympics and asking my mom if I could take skating lessons. It didn’t matter that I should have started when I was really little. And yes, like all my other friends, I had the “haircut”.

  17. Karen Hawkins on 24 Sep 2007 at 9:38 am #

Ellen, I promise not flick my bic while you’re hula-ing on the beach. At least, I won’t do it AT you. Of course, with the winds the way they are during hurricane season, a bic may be the least of your worries!

If we’re taking fictional crushes, then I must agree with KC about Laura Holt off of Remington Steele. I SO wanted to be her!

And Dot, Julia’s on vacation right now, but I think she’ll be checking in from time to time. I know she’ll be SOOOO excited about that! :)

  18. Karen Rose on 24 Sep 2007 at 9:38 am #

Oh, Dorothy Hamill - I also wanted to be her, and I had the haircut. It did not look good on me. Nuff said.

Sherri, so you’re to blame, ahem, to be praised for bringing our shy Goddess Julia out of her shell! I blame my DH for my decloaking, ha! So you were newbies at Chicago? I was, too, along with one of my dearest friends, who I met at that same National.

Must have been something in the water, LOL.

Be careful, Ellen. You let that BIC go unused for too long and bad things will happen to that grass skirt. Ever seen a Puli? Nuff said. I’m done now.

  19. Kay on 24 Sep 2007 at 10:42 am #

Karen, I wanted to be Dorothy Hamill, too. Had the awful cut. The only other thing I’ll ever have in common with her is being short. LOL

  20. Ellen the Puli on 24 Sep 2007 at 11:12 am #

You Karens crack me up! When I visualized a Puli in a wind storm, I snarfed my Diet Coke.

  21. Cookiedough on 24 Sep 2007 at 11:17 am #

I always wanted to be Marie Osmond. so much so, that whenever I came up with something quipy towards my older brother, my mother would snap at me, ” You are not Marie! Stop being her!”
I watched all the Donnie and Marie shows. Still have all the records with no turntable to play them on, but never going to give them up!
I knew all the songs and pretty much drove my family nuts, singing and dancing around the house.. so happy that Marie is on Dancing with the Stars this season.
And as far as a role model for a 13 yr old , I couldn’t have chosen better. I hate to see all these young girls try to emulate who is famous for being famous nowadays!

  22. Ellen the Puli on 24 Sep 2007 at 11:24 am #

I did want to be Laurie Partridge (played by Susan Dey) a while. Not because I was crushing on her, but because I was plotting to find a way to be closer to Keith. (played by David Cassidy)

Keith: “For Pete’s sake, Laurie. That’s the fifth time this week you walked in on me while I was showering.”

Laurie (now played by Ellen the Puli): “Sorry, Keith. I was looking for my razor,” she giggled.

  23. Ellen the Puli on 24 Sep 2007 at 11:39 am #

Don’t even get me started on my dream of replacing Hop Sing (played by Victor Sen Yung) so that I could take care of Little Joe (played by Michael Landon.)

Little Joe: “It’s a real scorcher today, Miss Hop Sing.”

Hop Sing: (now played by Ellen the Puli) “It sure is, Little Joe. But the truth is, I like when things get hot,” she says, brushing up against him while heaping more potatoes on his plate.

Little Joe: I can understand that, Miss Hop Sing, but isn’t it a little too hot to be wearing woolen chaps?”

Hop Sing: “I’m naked, you fool.”

  24. Lisa H on 24 Sep 2007 at 11:46 am #

Ellen—you are so funny….I think I come to this site just to read your remarks.

Listen, David Cassidy was okay, but for a guy way back then, I kinda had a thing for Bobby Sherman! I loved that hair parted on the side!

I used to have a poster on my closet door of David Cassidy, Bobby Sherman and Leif Garrett. I would have happily given you the David section.

    Ellen, are you a writer?

Sheri, if you are going with the whole grass skirt, make sure you wear something beneath it, those gentle winds that blow in from the ocean can cause trouble for girls in grass.

  25. twolilhahas on 24 Sep 2007 at 1:09 pm #

You know, Karen Rose, I had not thought of Danica MacKellar, but I loved reading about her book about math. She’s so beautiful and smart. And I LOVE math, so it’s so attractive to think of someone promoting it. :)

My other great love is Teresa Medeiros. I would love to be friends with her. lol I can only imagine how much fun a lunch date would be…she’s so funny in her books…and her blogs.

I probably have a slight girl crush on J.R. Ward, too…but only in the “I’d love to be inside her head for a day” kind of way. I can’t imagine having all those Black Dagger Brotherhood brothers roaming around in my subconscious all the time, that has to be an interesting brain!

  26. Ellen the Puli on 24 Sep 2007 at 1:18 pm #

Wow, Lisa. Thanks a bunch for the compliments. I do hope to be a published writer one day, but for now I have a four year commitment to my day job. I write historicals in my spare time and have just started testing the waters of Romantic Comedy. (Blame Karen Rose)

I can’t believe you brought up Bobby Sherman! He was soooo groovy! Remember his show “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.” How ‘bout you and I kill off the other sisters and keep Bobby all to ourselves!

  27. Ellen the Puli on 24 Sep 2007 at 1:23 pm #

It’s kinda funny how quickly we got off our girl crushes and moved over to the men! Who could blame us…I mean…Bobby Sherman wore suede pants and a rawhide collar!

We are mere goddesses, after all.

  28. Sherri Erwin on 24 Sep 2007 at 1:49 pm #

I think I heard that Bobby Sherman became a cop in CA. Lisa H, like all modest goddesses, I always wear a toga under my grass skirt. Ellen, are you suggesting there was something going on between Hop Sing and Little Joe?! Or only in your dreams? Cookiedough, but did you sit through Goin’ Coconuts? Now that is hardcore Osmond love.

  29. Karen Rose on 24 Sep 2007 at 1:51 pm #

Oh, yeah, I wanted to be Marie, too - or Marie’s long lost cousin so I could wear all her hand-me-down clothes. Long lost, verrrrry distant cousin as I had an amazing crush on Donny. (I still love to watch Mulan, just to hear him sing and I ain’t ashamed of it!)

Another woman I’d like to sit down and have lunch with - Brooke Shields. She took a big personal risk putting herself out there by writing her book on post-partum depression.

I think the character trait I find most attractive in other people, women included :-), is the willingness to jump into the fire. In the words of the inimitable Garth Brooks: Life is not tried, it is merely survived, if you’re standing outside the fire.

To me, that’s the most attractive h/h to read in a book - and to write.

And when our Ellen the [insert word dujour here] is a romantic comedy star, I’ll nod and say, “Bout time, girl.”

  30. Karen Rose on 24 Sep 2007 at 1:52 pm #

I don’t know, Sherri. Toga under the grass skirt - I imagined you had more guts than that. I triple dog dare you!

  31. Ellen the Puli on 24 Sep 2007 at 2:18 pm #

LOL, Sherri…Hop Sing did cook and clean while wearing a long dress and his hair in a braid. However, I was just morphing into him just so I could get up close and personal with the Boys from Bonanza.

I never girl crushed the many wives of Bonanza because they had the shelf life of a mango in August. That left Hop Sing.

Another important point about the Bonanza Boys… they wore the same clothing for fifteen years, so whether or not I did the laundry that day, would not be a big deal for them. I would have to find other “chores” to fill my day. Yeeee Haaaaw!

(Is it my imagination or does my Yeeee Haaaaw have a NY accent?)

  32. Ellen the Puli on 24 Sep 2007 at 2:20 pm #

Holy Moly, Goddesses! Nobody wanted to be Wonder Woman? The golden lasso alone would be worth it, not to mention hair that didn’t move, even when subjected it to an incredible centrifugal force from all that twirling!

I swear I just sang her theme song out loud. That’s my final pick of the day. I want to be…
    NO…
    I AM Wonder Woman.

It’s a damn curse that I look like Delta Burke (pre-diabetes) instead of Linda Carter.

  33. Ellen the Puli on 24 Sep 2007 at 2:32 pm #

Oh My Gawd. Right after I sent that final pick in, I remembered Wonder Woman’s Invisible Jet. Can you image the sight of me sitting in that tiny costume with my cellulite ridden cheeks spilling out…Below me, mortal mothers shielding their children’s eyes from the horror of the view?

    “It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Puli-woman!

Sherri…come back real soon. This was such a blast, today!

  34. emmiebee on 24 Sep 2007 at 2:39 pm #

Oh, Ellen, I was just reading all of the responses and thinking the same thing!
Only I was going to be her side-kick “Kitten-Girl”, ala Batman and Robin, but with a cuter outfit. Well, I was only about five years old, so I give myself a lot of leeway. And, I had the Under-Roos, so I was already halfway there!

    http://www.buycostumes.com/Category/126/106/Product/31304/ProductDetail.aspx

Could they cover me up any more than this????

  36. Karen Hawkins on 24 Sep 2007 at 3:07 pm #

You know, I never thought Linda Carter looked all that good in her WW outfit. I mean, she was fit and all that, but the waist was so high and tight — it looks as if she was about to be cut in half. Made me wince to watch her walk.

I always wanted to be Jeanie on I Dream of Jeanie, although I thought the major was too whiney by far. Still, it would have been neat to have all of those powers. I never wanted to be Samantha on Bewitched. Darren REALLY got on my nerves. . . . You know, I begin to see a pattern . . . Hmmmmm.

  37. Cookiedough on 24 Sep 2007 at 3:32 pm #

if I was going to be a super hero, I’d rather be Bionic Woman. No special costumes for her! If she was jumping into the fray, well jeans and T were fine for getting those bad guys!
No breath sucking corset or chilly see through harem pants For Jamie Summers!

Ellen the Puli! I love your comments! Have any more??? And yes, I sit thruogh Goin’ Coconuts every time it’s run on tv. have that soundtrack too. holy cow I am just that sad! I had such an Osmond crush I wanted to marry Jimmy, since we were the same age. My sister wanted Donny. Still does, I bet!

Karen, did you have a Whiney man in your life you got rid of?? lol

  38. Sabrina Jeffries on 24 Sep 2007 at 3:45 pm #

Sherri, welcome to Mount Olympus! I LOVE your statue. We should require all guests to do their own statue!

Well, believe it or not, my girl crush is Carly Simon, partly because I love her music and am convinced that I could be a good back-up singer for her, and partly because I love her lyrics and think that she and I think alike. But I guess all fans feel that way about their celebrity crushes. I just think we would make good best friends. Yeah, like THAT’s going to happen.

When I was younger, and they were together, I also wanted to BE her, since she was married to James Taylor, my other favorite singer. But now that they’re broken up, I’ve given up that part of the dream. :-)

Oh, and I had pictures of Donny, David Cassidy, and Bobby Sherman on my wall, along with albums from all of them. Ah, the days of the girlhood crush.

  39. Karen Hawkins on 24 Sep 2007 at 4:05 pm #

And don’t forget Tony DeFranco. (sings) It’s a heartbeat! It’s a love beat! And when we meet, it’s a good vibration!

  40. Lisa H on 24 Sep 2007 at 4:21 pm #

Tony DeFranco —I LOVED him but alas I am fickle because I completely forgot about him.

Ellen- I will buy your book as soon as its finished—you are too much! Keep working on it- even if its only a paragraph a day, you have so much talent! I’m still smiling over the “there’s not enough wax in the Vatican for my man” line!

I also wanted to be Jeannie from I dream of Jeannie. Sometimes when my husband has been especially good, I call him Master!

  41. Karen Rose on 24 Sep 2007 at 4:26 pm #

See what you started, Sherri - you can’t take us goddesses anywhere :-) Especially with Ellen - I ain’t goin’ nowhere in a see-through plane. I’m scared enough of the steel variety.

Who was Tony DeFranco? I wasn’t allowed to listen to rock music as a kid. I had to sneak Puppy Love and the Carpenters (I thought I was going straight to hell.)

Speaking of that place, Sherri - do you have any more you want to share about your BOOK?

  42. Kathleen Givens on 24 Sep 2007 at 4:29 pm #

Hello, Goddesses! I’ve followed Sherri over to her new digs on Mt. Olympus. Nice place you’ve got here. Sher, love the outfit. So you.

Girl crush? I don’t think I’ve ever had one, but if I did, it probably would have been Audrey Hepburn, who I think was perfect.

  43. Kathy K on 24 Sep 2007 at 4:37 pm #

My girl crush?? Well, Laura Holt definitely ranks up there… she was classy, sassy and she got to spend time with Remington Steele… *drool*

And when I was younger? Anne Murray ~ Canada’s song bird. She was an alto, I’m an alto… and when you’re a teenager, NOT being a soprano kinda bites. But Anne could sing and she was so pretty… and Canadian… worked for me!

But overall, I guess I’d have to go with being Laura Holt… just can’t get enough eye-time with Remington Steele. *sigh*

And Sherri, I was at the bookstore today and looked for THWL… and they didn’t have it! It wasn’t in any of the stores either… sucks to be in Canada sometimes.. especially when new books come out.

  44. Sherri Erwin on 24 Sep 2007 at 5:10 pm #

Kathy K, I hope you asked for it. I hope they get it in! Now I’m going to panic. I think I’m having a hot flash… I may have to remove the toga under my hula skirt… woo-hoo, free at last! (There, Karen, enough guts for you? LOL!).

I do have some pictures of Julia London as Wonder Woman, so if she were here I think she would have pleased Ellen and pulled a few stunts in the Invisible Jet (she’s such a show off, that Julia London).

Kathleen Givens! Thanks for popping in. Kathleen became close with Julia and with me at that same RWA conference. We all blog together as the Whine Sisters.

I had a Tony DeFranco album, too, wow! The older DeFranco brothers creeped me out a little but Tony was dreamy in his baby blue tiger sweater. I wonder what happened to him? Oh wait, I’m supposed to be talking about my BOOK, oh yeah.

  45. Claudia Dain on 24 Sep 2007 at 5:23 pm #

Ahh, late to the party, which is SO unlike me!

Welcome Sherri, fellow Goddess and wearer of cool goddess outfit.

My girl crush…currently it’s on the heroine of my new series. I have it bad for her, and so does my DH! We’re pathetic, can’t even find a girl crush of our own, have to share one. We’ve clearly been married too long.

My girlhood girl crush was on Doris Day in all those adorable romantic comedies. So cute, so perky, so plucky!

  46. Suzanne Enoch on 24 Sep 2007 at 5:38 pm #

I always wanted to be best friends with Scout from “To Kill a Mockingbird” when I was a kid. We’d climb trees all day, and then sit on the front porch in the evening and listen to her dad Atticus tell stories.

  47. Sherri Erwin on 24 Sep 2007 at 7:00 pm #

I really have to give more credit to Julia London. I came up with the premise of To Hell with Love while I was on the phone with her. We were discussing how tired we were of runaway brides and dates from hell in chick lit, so I started thinking “What if you had a real woman with real problems? And what if the right guy stumbled into her life when she had given up on caring about finding a guy– and he happened to be the devil?” What does it say when the perfect man for you is the devil? (gasp!)

I believe Julia laughed at me because we both agreed that the perfect man for me would be the devil. Fortunately, I married a real angel of a man, but I had a lot of wicked fun creating Hades and imagining what he might be like on a date, and in bed. I still have fun thinking about it. And now I’m writing about his nephew, Hermes, wreaking havoc in the greater Boston area. Thanks for letting me guest goddess today- I had a wonderful time!

I love Doris Day - she would have to be my girl crush - I love all her movies and the men she played opposite. My other girl crush is Mauren OHara (bad spelling, what kind of girl crush am I?) They were such strong women who made you laugh and cry and wish you could be them.

Sherri, thanks for coming today - your books sounds new (different) & exciting - I can’t wait to read it!
