Rachel turns 30–again
Aug 25th 2007
RachelGOn Writing!
I turned 30 today–again. I’ve been turning 30 for over ten years now. It’s getting a little strange since my children are in their twenties. In a few years, my daughter and I will be the same age. It’s not that I lie about my age. If someone asks I always tell the truth, but I never volunteer.
For the special day, Mr. G. is packing a picnic and taking me out on the lake to fish. Now I’m not huge on fishing, but I do like the shiny red pole he bought me last summer. Mostly I like to fish because I like to float around on the boat and eat.
What’s your favorite thing to do on your birthday? And do you lie about your age?

My husband gave me an all day spa day once at a luxury resort. That was pure heaven. But I could definitely get into floating around with a shiny red pole, Rachel. Happy Birthday!!
I always lie about my age. I can’t face the inevitable. And since I can’t, my favorite thing to do on my birthday is drink.

Congratulations, Rachel! You honestly LOOK 30, so why not tell people you’re thirty.
Julia, drinking is a requisite for Birthday Celebrations. I hope Rachel’s hubby knows this when he’s packing that cooler.
I lie about my age, too. I tell people I’m 62 so they’ll gasp and say, “But . . .!!!! You look WONDERFUL for 62!”
Works every time. Next year, I’m going to tell them I’m 73. One should age gracefully.
And Rachel, I looove to fish! Well, I love to float around in a boat and eat, like you do. Sometimes, i even bring a book in case things get slow. Unfortunately, I don’t have the attention span it takes to to be a good fisher person.
Enjoy your day, m’dear! We’ll all be thinking of you in your big hat, floating around the lake, snacking.

Happy Birthday!!!
My favorite birthday activities are: Shopping, Going out to Dinner, Opening many wonderful presents, reading, and having great Birthday sex.
I am now 41, and although I don’t want to lie about my age, my mother who is 63, has requested I begin to so no one will figure out her age. (The things we do for Mom!)
Enjoy your time on the boat, I hope the weather is beautiful wherever you are. Eat alot (diet tomorrow) and relax!

Happy b’day Rachel. 30 was my best birthday ‘coz so many people turned it into an unplanned all day celebration, so why not stay on 30 for 10 years? I didn’t lie about my birthday until I turned 40 last month, I get the need to embellish now. My favorite thing to do on my birthday is remind folks its the anniversary of Skylab falling.
Your photo - Payette Lake? I looked for a serene place for an Idaho vacation & couldn’t find one . I saw your mention of Payette Lake. That relaunched my search, short story shorter - best quiet vacation ever (a b’day present to myself).
As for fishing, the boat or stream part, the stillness - real attractive; the fish part not so much. Don’t eat ‘em, don’t want to touch ‘em. The folks who fish from our river creep me out; we’re in the most crowded, polluted part of northern NJ - ech! Enjoy your 30th birthday, catch a beaut and wear your sunscreen. Thanks for the swell new read.
I’ll start on that drinking Julia mentioned now.

Happy Birthday!
On my birthday every year I get a pamper day where my husband takes me out to eat wherever I want and then to the mall or something. I’ve woke up to flowers and balloons a couple of times too.
RachelG on 25 Aug 2007 at 10:59 am #
Yep, that’s a picture off my boat of Payette Lake. And I don’t really like the actual fish part of fishing. Mr. G baits the hook and takes the fish off if I catch anything.
I will definitely be drinking today. Later when Mr. G and the kids take me out to dinner. Also I’ve trained G well, and he takes me out for a day of shopping for my B-day. We’ll probably do that Tuesday. My favorite was when I convinced him that it was my B-week and I had to have something new everyday for a whole entire week.
Karen, I couldn’t get the hat photo to work right. It wouldn’t thumbnail and was just huge and made me look enormous.

I love going out to dinner with Meredith, the 28 yo, on my b’day. We would take Jessica, but she can’t reach with the knife and fork from Miami. I miss her so much, but she calls and sends cards.
I’m 61 and still breathing in AND out, and Karen, I REALLY am 61 and get the, “You don’t look it,” business. Yeah, right.
This year we went to a new hibachi restaurant with Mer’s best friend and the friend’s (let’s not get confused here) two and 1/2 yo daughter. You should have seen Gaby’s eyes the first time the flames soared three feet into the air. Definitely a Kodak moment. Never mind the shrimp tossing. We always went out to dinner as a family with the girls, even if we gave them a party with other children. It’s nice to keep tradition.

Rachel, you must have taken lessons from my daughter. She still reminds me of the shopping trip I owe for MAC cosmetics from her last birthday and it was in November. And she’ll never go for combining with this year.

Happy Birthday Rachel….I used to say I was celebrating so many anniv of my 29th bday. LOL I pretty much tell people my age, they don’t believe me. We had a new girl start last year and she could not believe I was 46, thought I was insmy early 30’s, she became my favorite person. LOL Good family genes, we all look much younger then our ages.
My fav bday was my 30th, got tons of flowers and went out with friends. I don’t do much for my bday anymore. I am happy to be home and have the day off from both jobs.

Rachel, I’m with you. I don’t lie about my age if asked, but I sure don’t offer the information!
Spending the day on a boat sounds like the perfect day. I love anything to do with a boat and water.
Have a Happy Birthday!!!

Happy Birthday!
On my next birthday (only a month and a half away) I’ll be turning 21, so I will definitely not be lying about my age. My parents are taking me to New York, and I’m sooo excited about it! I’ve never been before, but I plan to live there someday, so it’ll be good to see what it’s like. I’ll be a Southern girl taking on the Big City. Kinda scary.

Happy Birthday, Rachel! Hope it’s a wonderful day — and that you have many more happy 30th’s, lol.
And I agree about fishing… How do you spell boredom? But I love to be out on the water with all that gorgeous scenary and to eat whatever anyone catches.
As for lying about my age, I never felt the need to until recently. When I was younger, I always wanted to be older, or at least have the experience and respect that age brings. Now I’d settle for slowing way down!

Happy birthday, Rachel. And many more thirtieths to you. My mother, who was born in 1907, vowed she was 21 till the day she died in 1988. She never bothered with the truth and I was an adult before I figured out her actual age. LOL

On the subject of cool pressies. My step-daughter and her best friend just turned 40. Their husbands got together and gave them a lovely Caribbean cruise. Including airfare from Seattle for one and Lancaster, PA for the other. This means the guys will be caring for their respective children. Jenn (mine) has 3 children and Chris (her friend) has a 2 year old.
I must say that my son-in-law is the best gift giver in the universe. When their youngest was about a year old, he gave her a week-end at a fancy spa and took care of the kids himself. Not at home. He took them to an air show in Harrisburg, PA and to aquarium and science museums down in Baltimore.
I always tell him he is my favorite son-in-law. He is the only one, of course.

Happy birthday, Rachel! My favorite thing to do on my birthday is being with the ones I love. That makes me happy.
And I don’t have to lie about my age. People usually think I’m a lot younger than I am–and that’s fine with me.

Happy Birthday Rachel!! I haven’t lied yet about my age. I like to have a quiet day or go shopping for my b-day. Hope you have fun.

Happy Birthday, Rachel!
I love doing the spa thing on my birthday, and then going out for a nice dinner. And of course, absolutely no housework allowed! If someone asks, I tell them my age, but I don’t walk around telling voluntarily!

Happy Birthday Rachel!
My birthday is next friday and I never lie about my age. I liked how is anyone asked my mom how old she was she’d say ‘plenty-nine”. *g*
I don’t have a favorite thing to do on my birthday except each a piece of cake without guilt because calories from birthday cake don’t count. *G*
Have a wonderful day!

Happy Birthday, Rachel!
I can’t lie about my age because I have a 13 year old who outs me all the time. I just turned 43.
I’m usually at RWA on my birthday, so this year was a real treat - I got to be at home with family. We had relatives in and DH made me a great meal.
Normally at RWA I raise a glass of wine with friends on my birthday. Which is a very nice way to spend the day

Happy Birthday Rachel. My bday is tomorrow, I’ll be 29….again. I do whatever someone else plans for the day. I make no decisions on my bday–that’s the best gift. Be lazy and let others take care of me, whether it’s hot dogs or lobster, gifts or well wishes–I just don’t want to plan a thing.
So celebrate your 30th as long as you can, I’ll always be a year younger…ha.

Happy Birthday, Rachel! You wear it well, my dear! You are too cute to be 40! I too celebrate the anniversary of my 29th. I will celebrate it for the 20th time Dec. 29!! It is not fun to have a birthday that close to Christmas. You NEVER get a separate gift! When my hubby was alive he ALWAYS made sure I got a separate gift and a lovely dinner out. We spent the weekend in New Orleans for a couple of my b’days and those are especially sweet memories because both he and that New Orleans are gone now. One of our favorite places on the planet! My BFF makes a big deal out of my b’day every year. When I turned 40 my brothers sent a funeral wreath to my office. Needless to say, when I turn 50 I will NOT be at work that day!

Happy Birthday!! YAY!
I love my birthday and I go out of my way to make sure no one ever forgets my birthday. (The year my parents were divoriced my birthday was overlooked.) My DH spoils me rotten on my birthday each year and I LOVE it. Last year we went out to a very nice, romantic restraunt. He bought me 3 dozen roses and special ordered me some wine that we had on our honeymoon, but isn’t sold locally.
It’s not so much the what we do, it’s the fact that every year he makes me feel so special and always says, “Thank you for just being you.” which makes me melt each time.
I don’t lie about my age, but I always have to stop and think about how old I am. I stopped counting around 24, so there’s always a bit of a pause while I think about it for a minute. LOL

Happy Birthday, Rachel! My niece celebrated hers yesterday, too, though she’s still young enough not to have to lie about her age yet, lol.

Happy Birthday, Rachel! I hope your special day was filled with lovely surprises, lots of laughs, cool drinks, warm hugs and love.
My birthday celebration seems to change from year to year but, whatever the plans, I always try to enjoy my special day. I’m always grateful to be celebrating another year and have no problem telling people my age. I’ll be 56 in a few weeks. People always tell me I look much younger and I thank them prettily for lying. (grin) This year I’m giving myself a birthday present. Two weeks after my birthday I’m flying to NYC for a long weekend with girlfriends I’ve met here in cyberland. One of the women making the trip for the first time this year shares a birthday with me - same day, same year. I anticipate many celebratory drinks!

Happy Birthday, Rachel!! Actually, I was sort of celebrating my own birthday yesterday, since it was last Tuesday, and my celebration was only to eat out with my hubbie at one of our favorite restaurants. This weekend, though, I’ve been doing jigsaws. It’s my favorite thing to do, so I did two (one was of Johnny Depp–yum!), both to celebrate my b’day and to celebrate having turned in my book. But Monday, it’s back to work for me!

Happy Birthday, Sabrina and congrats on turning in the book. That means it’s one step closer to us!

*collective sighs from every woman alive* …rachel rachel rachel… of course we lie about our age! i’ve been turning 5 for 11yrs now! i figure stick to the age you liked the most, thus i am five, i have a good feeling that i’ll be turning five for another couple of years too. on my birthday i love hanging out with friends and family, usually i’m the ‘let’s-just-relax’ type of person but for my birthday i always receive that extra bit of hyperactive adrenaline
and a toast to me for my 5th birthday..again!
HAPPY 30th RACHEL!
