Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I am up late waiting for my brother to show up. I expected him at noon!
Happy sigh! He is so dreamy. A much better Mr. Darcy then that other guy.
Karen Hawkins on 19 Aug 2007 at 7:41 am #
I agree! No one does Darcy like Colin Firth.
Sigh. Deep sigh. REALLY deep sigh!

Lisa H on 19 Aug 2007 at 11:29 am #
He’s okay—but I prefer last Sunday’s swarthy Pirate. I think he would make a very hot Mr. Darcy!
Sorry girls but I’m a one man woman!!
Dilimis on 19 Aug 2007 at 11:36 am #
Colin Firth! Delicious, and definitely the best Mr. Darcy.
Nicole Jordan on 19 Aug 2007 at 11:44 am #
You goddesses have said it all… Yum. Delicious. Sigh.

Thanks. I needed a good Firthing.
Karen Rose on 19 Aug 2007 at 12:54 pm #
Add me to the “Firth is the best Darcy” club, although Olivier didn’t play a bad Darcy either, IMO.
Thanks, Karen H! I’m going to have to watch my P&P mini series once again!
Julie on 19 Aug 2007 at 1:15 pm #
sighhhhhh
Thanks! I needed that.
I also agree that Firth is the best Darcy.
KMB25 on 19 Aug 2007 at 2:40 pm #
Put me on the list for the Firth is the best Darcy too…..he’s just yummy any way you look at him!!
Thanks Karen, I needed that today! Life has been a bit nuts lately!

At the risk of being lynched, I am going to quickly say and then flee the territory, that I prefer Matthew Macfaddyen as Darcy. GASP !!! HERESY!!!! BURN HER AT THE STAKE!!!! I know, I know. Bad, doglady. Bad doglady! Don’t get me wrong, ladies. Colin is a LOVELY piece of eye candy. Made my day to see him. However, for some reason, I prefer him in comedies. He is just so endearing when chaos is erupting all around him and he is trying desperately to set it right or just to survive. It must be that boyish quality. That’s my story and I am sticking to it. You may all get up off the floor, fan yourselves and get on with your day now.
Claudia Dain on 19 Aug 2007 at 3:41 pm #
doglady, I thought Matthew M was a magnificent Darcy. Those dreamy blue eyes…yum. But there will always be a special place in my heart for Colin as Darcy. Actually, I love Darcy in all his incarnations! Have they ever picked a bad one?
Sabrina Jeffries on 19 Aug 2007 at 3:53 pm #
I love them both, I confess, so you’re not alone, doglady. And yes, I really adore Colin in comedies. He’s a natural as a sort of straight man to the comedic others.
But Claudia, there HAS been one Darcy I couldn’t stand. David Rintoul. I know most Janeites would disagree, but I couldn’t stand Rintoul’s performance. He was too cold by half.
doglady on 19 Aug 2007 at 4:19 pm #
OMG ! I am SO glad you said that, Sabrina! I have seen, I think, every Darcy there is and I HATED Rintoul’s portrayal. I do not think he even thought about reading the book. He had no insight into the character at all. I have to go with Claudia on Matthew’s eyes. A girl could drown in those eyes! And yes, Colin is the perfect straight man in comedies. You watch him and just want to help him out. You think “You poor thing, you are just clueless because you are so sweet. Let me help you out!” PLEASE!!!
Suzanne Enoch on 19 Aug 2007 at 5:09 pm #
Oh, my goodness. And did you goddesses see that Colin Firth is starring in the new movie that opened this past Friday — THE LAST LEGION? Haven’t seen it yet, but I will. As Zeus is my witness, I will see Colin Firth again! *g*
jessie e on 19 Aug 2007 at 5:58 pm #
Doglady, I agree with you. I prefer MM as Darcy. Except, I’m going to take it a step further and confess a deep, dark secret. I don’t like Colin Firth. There. I said it. I don’t think he’s sexy. I don’t think he played Darcy well at all. His face looks weak to me. And, instead of intense, his eyes seem kind of blank. But that’s just my opinion. Whoo. I don’t know if I’ve ever confessed that before. Took a lot out of me.
doglady on 19 Aug 2007 at 8:18 pm #
Wow! This is becoming more and more like true confession. Next???
darkshire007 on 19 Aug 2007 at 8:30 pm #
You can kill me now. I have never watched P&P and have no idea who these people are. Maybe I should put the books down once in a while and turn on the television to something other than Travel Channel, Antiques Roadshow, Animal Planet and Hockey. Sorry, girls.
ladydawgfan on 19 Aug 2007 at 8:52 pm #
Darkshire, for missing out on P&P, you are officially sentenced to 30 lashes with a wet noodle and 3 bad hair days, to be commuted if you take yourself down to Blockbuster and rent P&P (start with the A&E version) and then report back. I recommended the A&E version because of our Mr. Firth, and also because the most recent Kiera Knightly / Matthew McFayden version took a lot of liberty with the book and also cut out a lot to fit the two hour time slot.
Try ‘em! You’ll like ‘em!!!
gannon on 19 Aug 2007 at 9:03 pm #
Darkshire, you must watch both versions of P&P immediately!! You don’t know what you are missing!
Aspen on 19 Aug 2007 at 10:55 pm #
Darkshire!
Don’t rent Buy! ASAP! You will thank us later.
Also check out Bridget Jones (I, II). P&P modern day spin offs. The yummy Collin Firth is Mr Darcy yet again.
Can’t get enough, (Happy Sigh)
zambonigirl (zambi) on 20 Aug 2007 at 10:33 am #
What the Firth?
Dude. You can Firth me in the morning, you can Firth me in the night, you can Firth me when you want to baby (drum beat)…
Yes. Bringing really bad boyband songs of the 90’s back to you because my mind is fried with these gorgeous pictures! Ah! He’s so FINE! Wish he were MINE! That pretty boy over there…I’ve gotta stop.
Lynette Rees on 20 Aug 2007 at 11:17 am #
I love Colin Firth. I blogged about this at The Wild Rose Press a couple of months ago regarding the Bridget Jones Movie:
“Good Guys Versus Bad Guys: Are you a Mark Darcy kinda gal or a Daniel Cleaver one?”

Yum. That’s all I can say. YUM.
RevMelinda on 20 Aug 2007 at 10:32 pm #
Suzanne, I saw THE LAST LEGION on Sunday. It is a pretty silly movie but I was chomping popcorn, swilling Coke, enjoying Colin all grizzled and swashbuckly (swordfight after swordfight), and I enjoyed it Tremendously–made me forget all about how my Youngest threw up in church that morning (right under the Welcome Visitors sign, LOL).
It’s pretty enjoyable in a B-movie, British-actors-as-Romans-hamming-it-up sort of way, and Colin is (of course) quite the eye candy in leather and leggings.
darkshire007 on 21 Aug 2007 at 5:55 pm #
Everyone take a deep breath…P&P is on order from Amazon and is on its way. I solemnly swear that I will stop everything I am doing and watch them the minute they arrive. Will keep you posted….
Santa on 23 Aug 2007 at 9:29 pm #
Sigh..he still rocks four days later!
I adore Colin Firth. When he smiles that smile to the lady of the moment like his Porteguese housekeeper in ‘Love, Actually’.
I love the fact that he’s married to a gorgeous Italian. Makes transference so much easier!
