First Kiss
Aug 3rd 2007
Claudia DainGoddess Classics
I was driving along in my car yesterday, doing the Car Dance, and a song came on the radio that took me back to my First Kiss. Don’t ask me what it was about that song that made the memory of my First Kiss come flooding back; there wasn’t any music playing during that Magic Moment.
My First Kiss took place on a Saturday afternoon. It was sunny and warm and there was birdsong. I was in a horse barn, there were bales of sweet-smelling hay surrounding me, the dust motes rising up from the hay were sparkling in the afternoon sunlight, and then he kissed me.
It was very nearly perfect. He was gentle and sweet. He knew it was my first kiss and he wanted it to be good for me. And it was.
Let’s compare notes, woman to woman, first kiss to first kiss.
Was it day or night? Warm weather or cold? Were you in love or in like? Were you nervous or excited? Did you know it was coming or did he take you by surprise? Was it good for you?

This one takes me back a bit. Good topic though….
Little Red Corvette takes me back every time. It was at night in a blue Camero, a bit on the cold side and I was in a lot of like. Seeing that I was 15, I was both nervous and excited, but truth be told, I was more nervous. I ohhhhh so knew something was coming. There was no mistaking his intentions with the that look that was in his eyes as he leaned over with his head cocked to the side and his eyes fluttering closed. Was it good you ask……..I’ve since had better.

I was 6 or 7 years old. I was not in love. My brother and I were playing Star Wars with the neighbor boy one summer afternoon. I think his name was John. Anyway, I was Princess Leia and he was Han. We were playing in this huge cardboard box in our backyard. I believe it was my brother who said that Han kisses Princess Leia. So John kissed me and it was gross! I remember it was sloppy and wet and that he tasted like he’d just eaten peanut butter. Thankfully I’ve gone on from that first experience and had much more pleasant and passionate kisses.

Susan K, LOL, what a great first kiss story! My first kiss was less than spectacular. It was during a game of the spin the bottle and naturally, when I spun, it landed on the boy I wanted to kiss the least! Okay, but nothing great!
Fast forward a few years to the first time I kissed my major crush (I was in lust, with a little love thrown in!) The song One Hundred Ways by James Ingram always takes me back to that time! Lucky for me, I married that boy–he was a great kisser then and even better now! The funny thing is we never dated in high school, much to my chagrin. But many boyfriend and girlfriends later, we got together. I always tell him it took him awhile to see the light!

My first kiss was on a warm summer eve. There was a group of about 10 of us who always hung out together having grown up together. On night, one of the guys grabbed my hand to hang back while the rest of gang went ahead. We sat on an old stone wall and talked for a while. Then he leaned in and kissed me. I can remember having butterflies in my stomach for the rest of the night. Of course, my girlfriends had to corner me and get all the details later!
Great topic, Claudia. I love to hear these stories. And Gannon, so cool that you married him!
Claudia Dain on 03 Aug 2007 at 9:35 am #
I love hearing these stories! That first kiss is such a special moment–or it should be!!
SuzyQ, the old stone wall setting…pure romance!
Gannon, I wonder how many of us had our first kiss playing spin the bottle? I remember playing spin the bottle once, in a neighbor’s basement, going into a closet with a boy I really thought was icky, and we just sat there staring at each other! Then the dad of the house pulled open the door, enraged, and told us to get out of there. I felt like a scarlet woman for about 5 years after that! LOL
Caren Crane on 03 Aug 2007 at 10:15 am #
Okay, Claudia, I’ll admit to being a Spin The Bottle first kisser. I didn’t even spin the bottle, he did! It was at a co-ed birthday party (first I had ever been to) and I was in 7th grade. This boy was older (8th grade!) and was the cute bad boy half the girls I knew had a crush on. It was not at all romantic (in front of a critical crowd) and it was all tongue and suction. I was quite taken aback by the invasive nature of the whole procedure. And I didn’t respect him afterward. *g*
But then, the next summer, I was in like with a cute boy who worked at the concession stand at the pool. Jimmy. He was such a cutie! He kissed me twice that summer and he was terribly romantic by nature. He had (at 14) the ability to make me feel like the only girl in the world. I’m sure he went on to break many hearts!
Hey, this is making me wonder what my 14 and almost-13 daughters are getting into! Which is why, of course, they are always supervised.

My first real kiss was with this new guy at school on our first (and only) date. I wasn’t really in like or love. He’d just asked me out, and I thought why not? We went to the movies. He was too touchy feely and the movie sucked. He kissed me, predictably, when the on screen couple kissed. After that night, I found out he was a not-nice person, kinda sleazy and trashy.
But you know what? The kiss ROCKED. He tasted minty, like toothpaste, and he had really good technique. Even though the guy turned out to be a dud, I still love the memory of that kiss. I can separate it from all the rest of the bad stuff and appreciate just the kiss, if that makes sense.
Claudia Dain on 03 Aug 2007 at 10:30 am #
Jessie E, I totally get it. The kiss and the guy do NOT have to line up in the Perfection Department.
Caren C, if I’d had to kiss the guy in public for that spin-the-bottle moment…ugh! The chosen couple in our game went off to the closet to do it (or not do it) in private. Which made you wonder what exactly they were *doing* in there!
Sonja Foust on 03 Aug 2007 at 10:36 am #
Damn woman. That sounds amazing.
Mine was when I was 14 with my first ever boyfriend. We were standing out on our highschool football field at night, all alone. (Yeah, I was young and stupid. I thought he just wanted to look at the stars.) So he gets all close and gets this stupid look on his face, which I later learned was the “I’m going to kiss you now” look, and then goes in for the kill, I mean with all kinds of tongue and slobber and ew. I was kind of grossed out. And then he finishes with the romantic quip, “So… I guess that was your first kiss, huh.”
Perfect, I know.
Suzanne Enoch on 03 Aug 2007 at 10:49 am #
LOL, everybody. I’m so glad I’m not the only one with a non-romantic first kiss story. I had a high school guy I was totally crushing on. He thought we were friends, yada yada, and then FINALLY he kissed me. It was an absolute fish kiss. Wet, cold, and wet. (Yes, I know I used “wet” twice *g*.) And then suddenly he wanted to date, and I was no longer interested. No more fish kisses!
Claudia Dain on 03 Aug 2007 at 10:53 am #
You know, with the distance that time gives, you gotta almost feel sorry for those guys that blew it. I mean, here they are, responsible for giving a girl her first REAL kiss and they screw it up by getting all wet and sloppy.
Do you think they look back and think how badly they screwed it up for Sonja, Suzanne, etc, etc?
ladydawgfan on 03 Aug 2007 at 11:04 am #
My first kiss happened when I was in college the first time (right after high school). First date, walk after dinner, holding hands while strolling through downtown Milwaukee, and then he leans over and busses me one. Should have been really romantic and memorable, right?? Except that the thing he says, after “Well, that was nice,” was “So, how far have you gone with other guys?”!!! Yeah, he was crass enough to ask for the “biggie” on the first flippin’ date!!! Jerk!!!
KMB25 on 03 Aug 2007 at 11:17 am #
mmm…first kiss. Mine happened when I was 14 almost 15 in Costa Rica. He was 18 and his name was Minor…(still after all these years, I find the irony very amusing!)
I can’t say that I still remember all the details, I remember being very very nervous! We had gone out on a date, while I was there on an exchange, and it was nice…but that’s about it. Although, I met another guy while there named Juan Pablo, and those were some very hot kisses that are forever burned into my memory!!

Well, I guess I’ve always been a bit of a hoyden, as my first kiss happened in first grade! I was sitting next to this adorable blondie named Scott at lunch, and I don’t know what came over me! I leaned over, kissed him on the cheek, and told him that I realy liked him a lot. The poor, unsuspecting boy turned about seventeen shades of red, but, being a true gentleman, said “Thank you.” Nothing ever developed further in this romance, but it set the stage for the future- fourteen years later, I proposed to my boyfriend. We’ve been marries almost twelve years, and he still shakes his head that I beat him to the proposal. He was planning to propose in New Orleans in four months! Too slow, too slow.

I was 15 and he was an “older man” of 18. He was in town to spend the summer with his grandparents. His cousin was graduating H.S. and had girlfriends lined up to introduce him to at the post-grad party. Her younger sis was one of my best friends and I planned to sit with her at graduation. As I approached the row of seats we saw each other for the first time and
lightning struck. He took me to the party and we had a great time until too many kids decided to dance on the dock at the same time and we all ended up in the lake. He took my hand and led me out of the water to a bench out of the way. We were laughing as he gently dried my face with a towel then we looked into one another’s eyes, the laughter slowly stopped and he leaned in and gave me my first real kiss. In the background I could hear Frankie Valli singing “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”. It was magical. Even now, 40 years later, that song takes me right back to that summer and him.

Claudia Dain on 03 Aug 2007 at 12:28 pm #
Oh, PJ! How romantic! That’s how it’s supposed to be!
Any guy who asks how far you’ve gone with other guys deserves a very special fate. What a total loser! Isn’t it nice that we all gang up on him now? He’s GOT to be feeling the “loser vibe” now. Got to. As a group, we goddesses are too powerful to ignore.
ladydawgfan on 03 Aug 2007 at 1:04 pm #
Oh, he got his, and in a big way, not that I was directly involved. After he asked that, and it was obvious that he needed to ask it, given that some cuts of men’s trousers keep no secrets, I was so upset that I marched back to my dorm and told the whole story to my roommate. She was so outraged that she told all of her friends, using his name, but leaving mine out. The story spread like wildfire throughout the relatively small female population on campus, completely ruining any hopes he had of finding female company. I didn’t find out about it until I was walking into the cafeteria with a friend of mine and we passed him. She pointed to him and said, in a thoroughly disgusted voice, “Do you know I heard that he actually asked some girl how far she went with other guys ON THE FIRST DATE??” I had to act surprised. I never did mention that I was the one he asked.
Claudia Dain on 03 Aug 2007 at 1:33 pm #
Ladydawgfan, that is WONDERFUL!!! I love stories like that. I’ll bet he still remembers it all to this day.

My first kiss was with a guy I had met at a friend of a friends house. We flirted for 2 days before he asked me out and on that night we went to the movies. He was a perfect gentlemen the entire time, only holding my hand during the movie. Afterwards we went to the friends house and somehow the lights were dimmed, soft music was played and he kissed me. I had butterflies in my stomache the entire time and knew he was the one for me when I looked into his eyes. That was 16 years ago. We’ve been married for 14 years and he’s still a great kisser. *g*

Well you know what they say…”Ya gotta kiss quite a few toads before you find the prince.” I should be covered from head to toe in warts.
My first kiss happened in third grade, so I am not quite the hoyden that Emmiebee is. (lol) It was my 9th birthday and a boy named Stephen shared the same birthday…although he had been left back and had the nasty habit of setting ants on fire…but I digress. Anyway, he thought it would be cute to corner me in the cloakroom and go in for a nice birthday kiss. There’s talk in my town of a skeleton hanging on a coat hook in Sister Mary Joyce’s room.
Because I love to digress…My mom was pregnant with number 7 a few years after that kissing incident. If it was a boy the family voted that the name should be Stephen. While I do like the name now, at the time, I said novenas at night that my Mom would have a girl.
Baby sister Barbara Jean owes me big time!
XXX Gees!

PS PJ…your first kiss was as good as reading a romance novel. Good on you Girl! And ladydawfan…I knew there was a reason we connected; Hubby o’mine went to Marquette.

Now, I have to ask: those of you who had your first kiss at itty bitty kids, this was a *real* kiss with open mouths and tongues and all that? Cause that would blow my mind! LOL

Do you think they look back and think how badly they screwed it up for Sonja, Suzanne, etc, etc?
Heck no. That guy thought he was Adonis then, and I doubt it’s changed much since.
Claudia Dain on 03 Aug 2007 at 2:16 pm #
Sonja, if he doesn’t think it that just shows how different guys are from girls. I think back on my old boyfriends all the time, replaying things in my head…hence the memory of my first kiss “assaulting” me yesterday!
Ellen on 03 Aug 2007 at 2:19 pm #
OKAY, I am digressing, yet again. I JUST noticed that ALL of you are married to a man with the initials DH. Uh Duh…I’m guessing that stands for something? Ellen, I do believe it is Dear Husband.
Ellen on 03 Aug 2007 at 2:29 pm #
OOhhh…you mean the first mouth kiss. That was just as disgusting as Stephen’s, but I had matured enough to know that murder was no longer an option.
He was a good friend of mine. Really good friend. We slept over each other’s houses when we were kids and always made sure we were on the same side when an argument broke out. We were in the same class from K thru 8.
He asked me to a dance in 10th grade “because he wanted to have fun.” Sounded like a plan to me and our parents, who were dear friends, were delighted and made a dinner party out of the whole night.
After being ‘coached’ by his older brother, my buddy decided that we were obligated to make out at my front door. The only way I could describe it would be to say if you took slimy eels, a bone crushing jaw and mixed it in with the required heavy metal braces, you might come close to the sensation.
Tomorrow is my 17th Anniversary to a wonderful kisser…My Prince, at last.
twolilhahas on 03 Aug 2007 at 2:33 pm #
My first attempted kiss was when I was 15. I was sort of seeing a boy from another town, and we were young and never really saw each other, just talked on the phone. Our dads were in the same band. lol And both our families met at a campsite one night. We walked off together and his sister started singing “Kiss the Girl” from The Little Mermaid really loudly, sort of encouraging him/making fun of us. lol Well, he went in for the kiss, and I sucked my lips in because I wasn’t all about that! LOL So, it was sort of a first but not exactly. I did not kiss him back.
My first real kiss was with my first real boyfriend, you know, one I actually saw and hung out with. His name was Steve. I know it was with him, but I don’t really remember it. lol I think it was in his Camaro at the end of a dead end road. But it also could have been sitting in his Camaro outside my grandparents house. LOL Not sure. It had to be daytime, after school. Gosh, I really don’t remember! Sad.
Ellen on 03 Aug 2007 at 2:34 pm #
Too funny 2lilhahas and ladydawgfan! Thanks for the laugh. My lunch break is over. See y’all later. (I actually read every post every night before bed. Its a great end to a work day.)

Listening to some of these horror stories of gross kissers, you can see why I look back so fondly on my first kiss. I *know* I got lucky. But you never know what you’re going to get, until it’s up close and personal and too late to back out.
Bummer.
Karen Hawkins on 03 Aug 2007 at 2:41 pm #
Ellen, sometimes DH means Dear Heart, too. I’ve seen it used as both.
I was kissed in the coat room in first grade by Gregory Counts, the first Lothario-level flirter I ever met, though not the last. It was quick and naughty and left me red-faced and giggling madly.
catslady on 03 Aug 2007 at 2:51 pm #
I was just 16 and he was my first real boyfriend and it was my first real kiss - it made such an impression that I married the guy two and a half years later - we just celebrated our 38th anniversary in June. It’s amazing how I can still remember it.
Claudia Dain on 03 Aug 2007 at 3:09 pm #
To marry the guy who was your first real kiss…wow! I can’t even imagine. How amazing.
Here’s where I do true confessions: I remember my first kiss, but I don’t remember the name of the guy who was my first kiss! How’s that for a heartless wench? LOL
So all of you who remember the name of the guy, you’re waaaaayyyyy ahead of me!
dbrown3400 on 03 Aug 2007 at 3:34 pm #
As many of you have mentioned, my first kiss was with a much older man. I was 12 and he was 13, although I discovered later he was on the cusp of 14.
They were adding houses to our development and he thought it would be interesting to check the progress of one. We ended up in the attic where we could see the construction site. Out of the blue, he turned me around and kissed me. It was a hummer as I remember the kiss to this day, and not his name . Our subsequent encounters were playing tag football and baseball with the few kids in our neighborhood. I suppose the romance had gone out of our relationship.
Years later, I saw him on a hayride with a good looking date and the years had been kind to him as well. Brought back good memories as we waved across the hay.

I know, Donna, that was because I would have been forced to admit that I couldn’t remember my guy’s name! I think it has to count for something that I can remember his kiss.
He should be flattered, right?
RachelG on 03 Aug 2007 at 4:07 pm #
I can’t recall my first kiss, honestly. Probably because I didn’t like the guy at the time. But the first kiss from the first boy I ever liked . . . that’s different. I remember that one. I think I was 16 and didn’t know he even liked me back. It was night and winter. He offered to give me a ride home from a friends house and when I got out of the car he planted one on me that I have never forgotten. I still smile when I think of it.

I am loving these first kiss stories, ladies!
Totally off subject and one day late, I have located a link that has a video montage of the Highland Games. There are some choice pictures of Albannach and several of long-locked Jaimsie, looking sweaty and yummy! Yes, my dh is aware of my fascination with him.
I know Kim understands!

My first kiss didn’t really count, because he just did it to be noticed. His name was Jeff and he kissed me when I was 14 and he was 18. We’d dated a few times (what WERE my parents thinking?) and he had a mustache and a CAR!! I’d wanted him to kiss me, but he hadn’t yet. I wasn’t sure what he was waiting for until … A few weeks later I was on a bus full of church teens getting ready to go on some retreat and Jeff got on the bus just to tell me bye (he wasn’t going with us). He planted a chaste one on my lips to the hoots of the other boys and acted like he’d done some freaking manly thing. Still makes me scowl. I didn’t even know I was being kissed till it was over… Grrr.
Fast forward 2.5 years. I was introduced to my DH on a surprise blind date when we were 17. After a few dates we were at the mall waiting for our ride. It was White Flint Mall in Rockville, MD and it was snowing and DH kissed me for the first time. It was my first kiss and it was magic
Karen Rose on 03 Aug 2007 at 7:33 pm #

Boy, am I glad I didn’t marry MY first kiss! He was a redhead. His name was Jimmy Jones. He was 17 and I was 16. We dated for about a month before he kissed me and at the time I thought it was great. It was night on the back seatr of the band bus on the way home from a game we won. I don’t remember it being too gross. We dated about six months and I found out he was dating me to get close to my best friend who was the class beauty - long, tall, chesty and blond where I was short, brunette, flat chested and skinny. The poetic justice is that she never even looked twice at him. He got some girl pregnant right after high school. They have three kids and he works as a bag boy at the local grocery store. He is fifty years old and a bag boy. Gotta love karma!
Cyndi on 03 Aug 2007 at 8:34 pm #
Technically, my first kiss was during spin the bottle, but when I think of my FIRST real kiss it was one shared with the boy I loved. He walked me from our JR. high to the high school for my soccer practice, got me up against the fence and I knew it was coming–my first kiss. I was nervous and scared and excited– Afraid the coach would come out and see us and loving the fact that he, a good kid like me, did not care–that he just had to kiss me then! So I can not pass a high school football stadium on a sunny day without thinking of my first kiss!!
Ellen on 03 Aug 2007 at 8:38 pm #
Claudia, I think Karen made us all aware of a very important fact. We do marry our first REAL kiss. You all know what I mean. The way we felt when our true love’s lips first touched ours, was nothing less than magic. The little things, like the pad of his thumb grazing the shape of our mouths, his firm hand on the small of our backs…It’s what unites us all; The ability to appreciate true romance, and therefore, true love.
My DH, (ha-ha, I’m a true member now) is calling for me this moment. Our 17th wedding anniversary is tomorrow. On the Eve of this special, romantic day, he wants to watch a three hour movie on the Zodiac Killer. God, how I love that man!
No kiss before his ever mattered.
Thanks Claudia.

my first kiss was with my childhood boyfriend. i think he was the best bf over all, used to bring my flowers, share crayons etc. we’re still friends, and the pictures of us as 5 year olds are priceless!
my first real kiss was a dare. very unromantic. technically he was my boyfriend, we were 14, and our friend dared us to kiss since we hadn’t kissed yet. he came out of the closest a few years later. is my best friend.

I’m so late jumping in here
I was always a little “social butterfly” as my mother put it, and had my first “boyfriend” when I was in kindergarten (No lie, you could ask my mother and she would back me up!!). He and I kissed each other on the cheek all the time when we were playing house together during play time.
Well, kindergarten ended and elementary school began. I got another boyfriend. This one actually lasted three years…which is pretty good considering it was from age 7-10, lol. He and I pecked on a lips a few times when we were ten, but nothing I would really call a “kiss”.
My first REAL kiss came when I was at the beach on vacation with my boyfriend. I was up there with a friend of mine, and he was up with his parents. It was about nine at night, and it was really dark. The sun had just completely set, and there was a light breeze blowing. We were standing on the beach, the sound of waves in the background, and he just leaned in and kissed me….
Bethany Hamilton on 04 Aug 2007 at 2:24 pm #
I’d like to say it was earth shattering, but I don’t remember. There were too many fireworks going off in my head
I’m ecstatic to say that the boy who gave me my first kiss is now my husband and the wonderful daddy of our little girl. HEA’s do happen in real life!! (Even if there’s TONS of drama in between, lol)

I remember my first kiss and my first open-mouth kiss. Both happened about 5 years ago when i was 13. My first kiss was with a boy named Mathew. He was my first boyfiend and we were best friends. I was (or so i believed) in love with him and one day after walking me home from school, standing on a hill that overlooked a park he gave me my first kiss. A sweet and memorable kiss.
But unfortunately that realationship didnt work out and I was deeply cut when he broke up with me only after a couple of months because he liked someone else. So as my revenge, I started flirting with one of his close friends (who was easy and changed girlfriends every month) just to make Mathew jealous.

After a week, Mathews friend became my boyfriend and he was the one who gave me my first open-mouth kiss.
He was walking me home and just as i was going to give him the expected peck on the lips goodbye kiss, he leaned back on a wonky street sign and pulled me towards him and kissed me. Me being unexperienced and clueless was not expecting his tongue in my mouth, so i immediately pulled back and blurted out in so many words that i hadnt kissed that way before. He looked at me a sweet understanding smile and he kissed me goodbye on the forehead. A week later being more prepared, i participated in my official first snog. It was pleasant.
But alas, that relationship never worked out either. But I did make Mathew jealous. *g*
