A-N-T-I-C-I-P-A-T-I-O-N

birthday-cake.jpgYee haa! Tomorrow’s the day! The fourth and final book in the Griffin family “Sin” series, Sins of a Duke, comes out tomorrow.

I look forward to each book’s release the way some people look forward to their birthdays. I send out invitations (to booksignings), I make a wish (to do better each time on the major lists - New York Times, USA Today, Publisher’s Weekly), and I open presents (emails from readers saying they enjoyed the book and from fellow authors wishing me well, and the good reviews).

partyfavors.gifThis may sound odd, but I like looking forward to things. I like the feeling of anticipation, of not knowing precisely what will happen next. I like knowing I’ve done everything that I can and then having to let go to see things unfold the way they will.

shark-pencil.jpgI also worry, of course. The “Have I done everything I can?” or “Is there something I should have done differently?” mantra. Did I schedule a booksigning on a day when everybody’s out of town? Did the bookstore order enough books (okay, truthfully I don’t think that’s ever been a problem, but I do think about it)?

nygreeting5.gifOn the non-book side, I still love looking forward to things. The day before Thanksgiving, the day before Christmas, New Year’s Eve eve. The promise in the air, the anticipation of seeing relations I haven’t set eyes on for a year, the wondering if I found that perfect gift for each member of my family.

The events themselves are nice, too, but I just prefer the just before. What about you? Do you prefer the anticipation, or the event? What are the things you look forward to most? Are you going to buy Sins of a Duke this week? (Ahem.)

I have ordered Sins of a Duke from Amazon but due to a couple of other books i order at the same time i have to wait until the beginning of July before i get it. I am so looking forward to reading this.

  2. Keri Ford on 28 May 2007 at 7:27 am #

Carol, I hat it when that happens. I go back in and change my order settings. Then they’ll send what books are available as soon as they’re ready.

And I would do that with Sins of Duke. Excellent read and you don’t want to accidently read a ’spoiler’ review.

Trust me on this and change your settings

  3. MizMacgyver on 28 May 2007 at 7:55 am #

I went out and hoped to get it ahead of time like Sabrina’s and was told it was sold out!! Just a tad frustrated now but I will get it tomorrow somewhere, I know I will. I just have to figure out where.

  4. Judy F on 28 May 2007 at 8:25 am #

I love the anticipation. I have a lot going on this next week and I can’t wait for it to start. Its sad though when its over. I am looking forward to getting together with friends at Lori Fosters get together next weekend.

Christmas is my favorite day to wait for. I love it.

Will have to check out your book.

  5. Julia London on 28 May 2007 at 8:58 am #

Its always fun when a new book comes out, isn’t it? Good luck with the book, Suz! I will be looking forward to seeing you and Sabrina soar up the charts!

As for me, my greatest anticipation these days is finishing a book. I love the sense of accomplishment and I love the few days off I give myself to do only stuff I want to do.

  6. KMB25 on 28 May 2007 at 9:03 am #

I love the anticipation of the event just as much as the event itself! When i planned my wedding, it was exciting being in the middle of it all and then during the wedding day, I had everything so well planned that I was able to enjoy it and not worry!! I had a blast!

And I will definitely be checking out your book :)

I love the anticipation of Christmas, and other big events but I hate waiting for my favorite author’s books! I want them now! :-) Even if I don’t have time to read them right away, I love knowing that they are there, waiting for me. Inspiration, I guess!

Can’t wait for Sins of a Duke to start taunting me from the shelves!

  8. Kay on 28 May 2007 at 10:08 am #

Ahhh…. anticipation. I love planning a party, researching for a trip to a new place, and all of the things that lead up to Christmas or a birthday. BUT…

I have to agree with DebMarlowe that the anticipation on a new book is PAINFUL. I want my favorite authors to WRITE FASTER and get those books out! This means you, Karen Rose. ;-)

  9. Kay on 28 May 2007 at 10:10 am #

I forgot to say, because it goes without saying, that I’ll be at the bookstore bright and early tomorrow, to get my copy of SINS OF A DUKE.

    Delightful, painful anticipation……….

  10. darkshire007 on 28 May 2007 at 10:13 am #

I love the anticipation of New Years and other big events (holidays/weddings/birthdays)! It is a wonder that I don’t have to take depressants to keep me grounded! As for Sins of a Duke (and any other books) you can pre-order them through Barnes and Noble. They keep a running list of the authors you purchase and then send emails to let you know when a book is coming and if you would like to pre-order or not. I, of course, always pre-order. It had better be good, though. No pressure or anything. Kidding! :)

  11. Sabrina Jeffries on 28 May 2007 at 10:53 am #

I’ll be looking for MY copy!!

BTW, have any of you bought Beware from a Wal-mart? I went to both my local Walmarts to sign stock this week, and they didn’t have any of the Pocket titles yet. Target had it but not Wal-mart. I wondered if that was just a local thing or not. I’ll check again THiS week, and pray that Suzie’s book is there, too!

  12. Claudia Dain on 28 May 2007 at 10:54 am #

I love looking forward to fun things, which seems so obvious, but I sort of forgot it for awhile once I became a grown-up. I think it all started in college, when all I ever seemed to ‘look forward’ to was one exam after another, and one big paper after another. Not especially joyful.

I’m really looking forward to Sins of a Duke, because, ahem, I’ve already been out looking for it and it wasn’t there! But, I was early and the book wasn’t, so today is The Day!

    Happy Book Launch Day, Suzanne!!!

Blow up a balloon for me!

  13. Suzanne Enoch on 28 May 2007 at 11:04 am #

Ah, Claudia, I could blow up a balloon with my hyperventilating in about 3 seconds. *g*

I love waiting in line for movies. You know the loooooong lines where you have to sit down and bring snacks. I did that this past Thursday night for the premiere of “Pirates 3″. Everybody there is anticipating the same thing. It’s so cool. (The movie was great, too. Stay ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE END CREDITS.)

  14. Manuelita on 28 May 2007 at 11:20 am #

Oh, wow, what did I miss? I didn’t stay pass the end credits of PotC3, because I figured I could wait until the dvd came out to see if there was anything special added, like they did for PotC2. I guess that’s one thing I am anticipating. :)

I’ve got Beware a Scot’s Revenge (from Borders, not Wal-Mart) and I’m planning to buy Sins of a Duke this week to take with me on my much-anticipated European cruise. I’ve been anxious to read both these books, but have been too busy reading travel guide books. Rick Steves is my new (temporary) favorite author. LOL!

  15. kimber on 28 May 2007 at 11:26 am #

I am so happy that the anticipation is almost over for me. I just got the email from Amazon that both Beware a Scot’s Revenge and Sins of a Duke are in the mail. Only two more days to wait… Then I will have to agonize over which to read first.
As for Pirates 3, we are going to try to see it today. Thanks for the tip about the credits.

  16. Claudia Dain on 28 May 2007 at 11:49 am #

I saw Pirates III last night and *did* stay through the end credits because had read somewhere I should and it was GREAT. So worth the wait, even though those had to be the longest end credits in the history of movie making.

  17. foreverdelayed on 28 May 2007 at 11:52 am #

I love the anticipation of an event… Like before I go a concert I bought tickets for months in advance. I love that feeling when the day finally arrives and your whole day feels special.

Pirates was great!! :) Savvy!??? I didn’t stay til the end because I had to use the ladies room. I did manage to find the post credits ending on Youtube, but Disney is pulling those off fast and furious.

  18. Kay on 28 May 2007 at 12:47 pm #

P III was a hoot. A little long, but take your potty break before the end credits. It was worth the wait. My DH heard about it, and surprirsed the rest of us by insisting that we wait FOR THE VERY END. awwwww…. I’m so glad we saw that. :-)

So, who is taking bets on a P IV?

  19. Stacy S on 28 May 2007 at 1:23 pm #

I love the anticipation of an event and the event to. Like Christmas, love everything to do with it and the day. Can’t wait to get your book Suzanne. I have seen Sabrina’s at my local Wal-Mart, I got my at Borders. It was great!!

  20. Suzanne Enoch on 28 May 2007 at 1:27 pm #

Which is better: anticipating the last Harry Potter book, or actually reading it? Hm. I’ll have to think about that one, myself.

  21. aislingyngaio on 28 May 2007 at 1:56 pm #

Are you kidding??? I’ve put a pre-order for Sins of a Duke on Amazon UK and I’m just praying that it would come early (PLEASE!!!). And damn, I would say that I love both the anticipation and the event (provided the anticipation period is not too long and the event is worth the anticipation, otherwise it’s rather anticlimatic). Most Harry Potter fans (like myself) confess that they’d rather drag out the reading of the last book *sobs* but can’t!!! I mean… We’ve been waiting a decade for this!!!

  22. ladydawgfan on 28 May 2007 at 2:03 pm #

Gotta make this quick, ’cause I’m on my way out to a Memorial Day BBQ, but HECK YES, I’m buying Sins of a Duke, Suzie!!! What?? Ya kiddin’ me???

Sabrina, I bought Beware at Borders a week ago Friday and LOVED IT!!! Brava!!!! Please take a bow for a job well done!!! (and please keep up the good work!!)

    See ya!!

  23. helen on 28 May 2007 at 3:25 pm #

I live in Australia and have ordered Sins Of A duke along with 5 other new releases and hopefully they will be on my doorstep this week some time so I can start reading them. Anticipation I love the build up to something wonderful whether it be a holiday or a good book to read is a feeling I love, and of course you can always re read the fantastic book. Good luck Suzie I just know it is going to be a fantastic read. I can’t wait ( Sabrina yours is on my order as well)
    Have Fun
    Helen

  24. MizMacgyver on 28 May 2007 at 3:42 pm #

Okay guys, what do you mean stay all the way through to the end credits, I couldn’t tear myself away in the middle to go potty so I missed that part, what did I miss??????????? I agree it was great but I had some upsets during the movie. Can’t say anything else without making it a spoiler.

  25. KMB25 on 28 May 2007 at 4:38 pm #

I think the hubby and I are going to try to see Pirates tonight, and I can’t wait! Thanks for the heads up about staying til the very end!

  26. Nicole Jordan on 28 May 2007 at 5:03 pm #

I love having something to anticipate. I get down if I don’t have plans to look forward to, so I have to create something, even if it’s only having friends over for dinner. But I wil not stand in line for a movie. Not. Ever.

And SINS sounds delicious, Suzanne! Can’t wait. I’m heading to the bookstore tomorrow.

  27. Brandy on 28 May 2007 at 5:15 pm #

I, too, anticipate release dates of favorite authors! And yes, I will be searching stores for Sins of a Duke.

  28. KMB25 on 28 May 2007 at 5:37 pm #

ok, so I tried to get Sins of a Duke today (yesh, I know a day early) because usually they seem to have them out already before the release date….well, not so for these particular Borders stores….grrr. (wait…maybe that was Barnes and Noble)–in any case, I’ll definitely be picking up a copy tomorrow!

And Sabrina, I bought my copy of Beware from Borders…but I do like to buy books from Target when I can get there…definitely cheaper than Borders! (but usually doesn’t have as good a selection)

  29. dbrown3400 on 28 May 2007 at 8:00 pm #

I enloy the anticipation of events, esp. Christmas. But once you open the presents and eat the dinner, it’s over, right? For me, books are different. I pre-order like Keri, so they just drift in like little friends on that Big Brown Truck. They are different in another way because when I know a book is coming, I re-read the other books in the series. I catch things I missed before and get a feeling for how the characters in the upcoming book might fit in.

I loved Scot’s Revenge, but enjoyed it even more since I had just finished the other Heiresses. Same with Julia’s Debutantes. Now I am finishing Suzanne’s Sins (so to speak) in anticipation of my good-looking UPS guy’s arrival this week.

Anticipation is a wonderful thing. Well IMHO. I love having something to look forward to! Whether its a vacation, a visit from someone or a book release. It’s bittersweet when it’s a book I’ve been waiting a while for…like Sins of A Duke ( I’ve been anxious for this one since Sin and Sensibility) because I get it and then I read it in a day or two and it’s like awww man it’s over. Kinda like how I felt when I watched the credits roll after LOTR’s Return of the King. So happy you saw/read it and now…somehow, you have to find another something to anticipate. Sadly, when you find nothing to take its place at the moment, you go re-read it and watch the DVD!!! Ahem….I will be at Borders tomorrow morning(what time do they open again??!) to get my copy! It’ll be awesome!

Sabrina, I never find any good books @ Walmart stores. My mom says they have a great online selection, though I haven’t checked it out. Target is no where near my house either, so I usually head to Books A Million (they are only 45 min. from my house) that’s where I will be going to get Sins of A Duke this week - very excited about it too!

I like anticipation, but I like it better when the event is happening. When I’m sitting down & opening a new book, after I’ve arrived for a party & get comfy & once a holiday has started. Pretty lame, but I’m impatient! Ha-ha!

Can’t wait to see Pirates III & Shrek. The kids will make me see Shrek 1st. We’re going next weekend (too many picnic & bbq’s this weekend) Both of my kids made A/B honor roll all year so we’re going out to celebrate!

Everyone have a good week - that’s one thing I don’t anticipate - the 1st day of the work week!

  32. Sabrina Jeffries on 28 May 2007 at 10:12 pm #

I’m dying to see Pirates III and Shrek 3, too, but it’ll have to wait until the book is in. I hate that!!!

  33. KMB25 on 28 May 2007 at 10:37 pm #

I just got back from seeing Pirates 3—oh my god it was great! And yes, y’all really need to wait until the VERY END for that extra scene…it was definitely worth it!!

  34. Debbie on 29 May 2007 at 12:43 am #

I’ll be buying Sins of a Duke at one of your book signings, Suzanne! I can’t wait.
    See you soon!

  35. zambonigirl on 29 May 2007 at 11:14 am #

Anticipation: Waiting for the Ducks to finally win the Stanley Cup.

And Rob Niedermayer is totally hot.

And I buy the books online so I can read them while I’m on my lunch break, or during luls in my day, so…I guess I have to wait in anticipation for it to be uploaded to ebooks.com. More anticipation!

Rob Niedermayer is still totally hot.

  36. ladydawgfan on 29 May 2007 at 12:30 pm #

Just a quick note, Suzie. I just got back from Borders with my very own copy of Sins of A Duke in my hot little hands!!! :)

  37. Suzanne Enoch on 29 May 2007 at 12:52 pm #

Yay, ladydawgfan!! They released it on the right day. My baby’s free!

  38. MizMacgyver on 29 May 2007 at 4:50 pm #

Arrrrrgghh, I can’t find it, I am getting so frustrated!!!!!

  39. TinaLouiseF on 29 May 2007 at 6:39 pm #

I picked up Sins today on my way home from work. As soon as I finish checking my e-mail for the past 5 days I’ll start on it.

The Borders Express here in Kalispell has had my order for Harry Potter 7 for the last few months. I haven’t heard if they are going to do anything really interesting this year. For Harry Potter 6 they got permission to build a Hippogryph (sp?). I wanted to see the Hippogryph more than read the book.

  40. MJ on 29 May 2007 at 7:24 pm #

Your new book came in the mail today! Yahoo! Unfortunately, no time to read it until the end of the week, but I’ve set the date (and cancelled a date, I might add).

I’m testing the theory that the anticipation is half the fun.

    I’ll let you know. (-;

  41. Kathryn Smith on 29 May 2007 at 11:26 pm #

Suzie, saw your book front-faced at my local Borders tonight. They had a lot of copies too!

  42. Stephanie on 30 May 2007 at 5:44 pm #

I have my copy of ‘Sins of a Duke’ and I have read ‘Beware A Scots Revenge’ and loved it. I have seen Pirates III, but did not stay through the credits. I have been looking forward to all three of these for months. Of course, I always look forward to the next book from my favorite authors.

  43. Patty on 31 May 2007 at 4:33 pm #

I bought “Sins of a Duke” today and had my husband hide it until we go on vacation next week! I desperately want to read it now (immediate gratification), but want to save it to read while lolling by the water where I REALLY enjoy reading. So, yes, anticipation is ok as long as I don’t have to wait too long!

  44. Mary B on 01 Jun 2007 at 11:18 am #

I’m not a big anticipation fan when it comes to reading my favorite books and favorite authors. My only wish is that you would all write faster because I can’t wait to find out what adventure your next character gets herself into. Obviously I’m an addict and am in desperate need of help. More books maybe???
    P.S. LOVED Sins

  45. MizMacgyver on 01 Jun 2007 at 5:31 pm #

I loved Beware a Scot’s Revenge, I was able to get that one ahead of time, I am still trying to find Sin’s of a Duke! I am going on a search tonight and I am not coming home without it. (Gee, I hope I don’t have to sleep in the car tonight)
